My 12 year old lab mix dog has received the best treatment from Blue Cross Animal. I had brought him in because I thought I needed to put him down. He was unhappy and had difficulty in walking and getting around. Dr. Michelle suggested we try laser treatments. He is like a new dog. He is happy. He not only goes for walks 3 times a day but he jogs - he has never done that. The laser treatment has saved us both. The staff is excellent. The docs are all fabulous THANK YOU!!!! We have had a wonderful vet experience with Dr. Deb so far. She takes the time to learn about your relationship with your pet as well as taking time to fully read your chart and discuss with you if you're new to the practice. She is definitely someone you want around when the difficult choice about end of life have to be made. A very competent and empathetic individual who thinks out of the box and is not rigid orcset in her ways. I highly recommend! Read Less

You will be hard pressed to find a veterinary staff that cares more about your animals than the crew at Blue Cross Animal Hospital. I have 3 dogs that they see on at least an annual basis, and they are always treated well. A while back I had a pretty scary issue with my dog becoming ill and not eating. It turned out there was a blockage. It all happened close to the weekend, and instead of just immediately doing a surgery or pushing me off to the emergency vet with no history... of my dog, they really worked through the issue and surgery was avoided. (My dog is 12 so surgery isn’t ideal.) Dr. Deb and Dr. Kathleen worked tirelessly to figure out what was happening and ways to work this through his system safely. This isn’t the only time they have worked to help treat and do what is best for my dogs. They are very thoughtful in their process and really put you at ease. As I’ve indicated, they just really care here. I’ve watched them with other “pet parents,” going through much more difficult situations, and they are just so caring and emphatic. I feel very confident that this staff will help treat my pets and help me with making decisions that are best for their care. Thank you BCAH for all you do. And I apologize for this LONG overdue review. Mehr anzeigen Read Less

We have been bringing our two cats here for several years. The vets are very knowledgeable, patient, and thorough, and the entire staff is compassionate, friendly, and really treats our pets like their own. We have moved out of the neighborhood but still bring our cats here as we trust them so much with our babies. Unfortunately, we have brought our cats in for both urgent situations as well as check-ups, and the staff is always so reassuring, happy to teach us about things, and seem to genuinely care about getting them better. We can't thank them enough for the wonderful care of our kitties!! Read Less

My dog was really sick and I didn't have enough money to be able to take care of it through my vet at the time that I was with for several years. One of my dog park friends told me about her bet and how they "grandfathered" her in so she was able to pay what should could and make payments that worked for her. We've been bringing our dogs to Dr. Deb and her colleagues since 1989. She's always given them excellent treatment and has educated us along the way. Today, she reminded me of an issue she's keeping an eye on with one dog, and what to look for concerning an aging issue with another dog. Our puppy mill survivor, who fears so much, is calm and trusting around Dr. Deb and all of the Blue Cross staff. When that awful time of letting go comes for our pups, she's gentle and comforting. When our Cosmo was treated for lymphoma for over a year, we felt the entire staff was rooting for us during the wrenching ordeal, and helped us understand the protocols. Read Less

Their negligence has killed too many pets. My husband's family had been going to this Vet for years (particularly Dr. Deb). They had good experiences until the last couple of years. Dr. Deb is no longer around (i.e. on vacation or just not present). I've had several times where we've made appointments with Dr. Deb only to have another vet show up in the exam room with no explaination of why Dr. Deb wasn't present. I had a cat for nearly 19 years who was diagnosed with Kidney Disease. I went in multiple times, and seen by all vets on staff. I was told that she would just deteriorate and waste away and die so I should probably put her down now. She lived a happy 2 years after that day. More recently, my mother in law's cat started having episodes of fainting and breathing problems. She called on Wednesday when the symptoms were continuing and was told to go to the emergency vet, but bring her in to Blue Cross first. So she hurried over. She then overheard the vet say "Will you hurry up and get them into a room because I want to get out of here". Not something you want to hear from your vet when your kitty is sick and you're looking to someone who is supposed to help them. She did a quick once over and sent her packing. The symptoms continued. I took her to my vet and he did a thorough exam and ran tests (no matter what time it was) and the diagnoses was stage 5 heart murmur and enlarged heart. This was Saturday. We were told her case was severe and we had to go to the UofM Heart Unit to get more tests ran. We didn't make it. She passed away on Saturday. Her heart gave out. For my cat...if I would have followed their advice I would have missed out on 2 great years with my girl. And their negligence has literally killed my mother in laws cat. Had they ran the tests and diagnosed her we could have gotten her help and she would still be with us today. My mother in law then called this morning to inform them that she had passed on over the weekend and all she got was "Okay thanks for calling". No sympathy, nothing. Do Not Go Here. They don't care about you or your pets. All they care about is money.Read Less

We have been taking our cats (nine of them over the years) to Dr Deb since the late 70's. She has always been kind and compassionate to both us and our animals. She has shared our joy of bringing a new kitten into our family, laughed with us at the idiosyncrasies of each personality, and cried with us when it was time to let them go. I especially appreciate, in those times of medical need, that she would let us know our options, offer her wise recommendations, and then respect our decisions. And she has a delightful sense of humor. In a couple years, we plan to move out of state to be closer to our grown children and I am already dreading the day we have to say goodbye to Dr Deb! Not sure how they stay in business. Took my 3 year old rescue dog there for her first appointment after adoption. She had recently had a litter of puppies and had been treated for health issues by rescue organization. She also had some abnormal lab results that weren't addressed by rescue vet. They made us wait 20 minutes past appointment time while they were " getting the chart ready." How long does it take to photocopy 3 pieces of paper from her prior vet?! Now, if the vet I saw, Dr. Kathleen, had actually read the file before seeing me, then, okay. But, she hadn't. She did not listen to my dog's heart nor palpate her. She did not do a thorough exam and tried to rush me out b:c they started late. She did give some vaccines and was pleasant enough, but was sloppy and not thorough. When I called a few days later requesting a thorough exam with a different vet., at no extra cost, they claimed the doctor had listened to her heart, etc! As if I wasn't in the room or was lying. No comments about ideal weight and other issues. Did not discuss abnormal labs. These people just don't seem to care very much and the doctor I saw was haphazard and sloppy in her care. Won't be back. Read Less

I was surprised to see the negativity of many of the Yelp recommended reviews of Blue Cross Animal Hospital .  In this case, the Yelp non-recommended reviews outnumbered the recommended, were much more positive, and in my experience reflect the quality of animal care provided by Blue Cross Animal Hospital better than the recommended reviews. I suggest reading them as well for a more balanced picture (scroll to the bottom of the page and click on not recommended reviews).  We have used Blue Cross since 1984 and have been extremely happy with the care they have provided our dogs.  We use both Dr. Deb and Dr. Amy.  They are sensible, caring and professional and in one case saved one of our dog's life by recognizing canine hemolytic anemia and sending us immediately to the University of Minnesota small animal clinic where she was successfully treated for this often fatal disease. A delay would have probably resulted in her death, Instead she lived for 10 more years.  My wife and I have been extremely happy with Blue Cross and have not problem in recommending them. Read Less

I will never take any of my pets here again and advise others to steer clear as well. We are new to the area and took our dog here on a recommendation. Their customer service seemed fine to me, but the actual care we received was impersonal, rude and tactless. We have a hyper-breed dog with a sore paw that we wanted to get checked out. We saw "Dr. Deb" and while she seemed like a fine person, was rather unskilled with my dog. She immediately riled him up with her antics and high-pitch-baby talk voice. She then encouraged him to jump on her - and treated him for it (I intervened at that point). I assume they are used to small dogs, because not even 15 seconds later she was asking him to stop wiggling and calm down so she could examine him. While I always love it when people are affectionate towards my dog, you don't rile up a big dog and then get irritated when he won't stop wiggling for you to hear his heartbeat (I get why some people might not understand this concept - but a vet?). Then they assumed we didn't have him on heartworm prevention and tried to sell us some of their overpriced heartgaurd (he stays on heartgaurd year round). Why did they assume we weren't taking care of our dog? They also did not ASK if they could do a heartworm test. It is a required test, I understand, but don't tell me what you're going to do. Ask me. Then as we were leaving, the woman ringing us up told my partner that the collar we were using on our dog was improperly fitted and could potentially harm him - definitely something we needed to know and I'm glad she said something! But, her first few sentences were plenty of information. She then went on and on, and we began to feel scolded. We do our best to make sure our dog has the best life possible, and being told we are doing something that could hurt him is scary and embarrassing. I'm glad she said something but she could have had more tact. All in all, I felt like they judged us as poor pet owners and treated us like we didn't have our dogs best interest at heart. I also feel as though the vet had poor skills to deal with my dog. Read Less

I am giving one star because this program is making me. my actualy review would be 0/5. When I was a child my family dog went to Dr. deb and she did do a great job, although the family dog was not given enough attention as I would have given him in my adult life. Three years ago, my pretty much son, a boy pug was brought into my life. I am legally blind, and after he was about a year old he started helping me get off curbs and would lightly bark when there was someone coming at night. He went everywhere with me and was my everything. W lived in California and moved back when Bently (my pug) was two years old. This was a Since Dr. Deb seemed to have done a good job, I went back to Blue Cross as it is in my neighborhood, and my aunt still uses them. Dr. Amy had seen Bently first and said he needed nose surgery to breathe better (Rhinoplasy). I did a lot of research and it he procedure looked saf, and normally is. . A year later, I took him in to get the surgery. Bently was there for just a few hours and they called to tell me that he was doing great and to pick him up. I picked him up and he was quite out of it, but they said it was because of the medication. I took him home and his breathing was not right. I waited about two hours and he had a bowel movement all over himself and was barely moving. This seriously concerned me, so I called them again and they told me to take him in. I brought him in and a new younger doctor, I did not catch her name but she had longer brown hair and was thin. She looked at Bently shortly and said he was fine and that his breathing would get be worse before  it got Better. She gave him some  electrolytes and told us to wait twenty fiur hours and by then he will be able to get up by himself. This was at 6pm. i was surprised thinking this was suppod to be more minor.  I watched him throughout the night and  he did not seem better but I kept telling myself not to worry. At eight in the morning I took my baby outside to give him some fresh air. He was doing terribly and I took him in. Dr. Amy said the doctor the night before was wrong about it getting worse before it got better. She said he has lost most of his oxygen and they didn't know if he would make it. Five minutes later she came in the room and said that my baby boy had passed away. He was only three years old and the light of my life. They took him from me and I sincerely hope that someone (especially a pug owner) takes this quite seriously. Nothing can bring  him back and this has been a living nightmare. They paid me back for the surgery cost and for him to be cremated, proving they had made a mistake. Losing my precious boy has been absolute hell. Please get this business down. Read Less

I can only highly recommend the Blue Cross Animal Hospital and Dr. Deb!  My friend and her Aunt have been taking their pets there for years and told me how great the care was at a reasonable price.  I took my 8 year old Newfoundland for a follow-up visit to Blue Cross after a weekend trip to the animal emergency room.  Not only was the staff wonderful and very accommodating, they loved my dog up like he was their own.The best thing that I liked about Dr. Deb is that she gave me the facts straight forward and took the time to explain my dog's circumstances.  When it came time to check-out, I was bracing myself for the cost and was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable their charges are.I have finally found my forever vet clinic in Blue Cross Animal Hospital. I feel compelled to write a review for Blue Cross Animal Hospital, even though I haven't had a cat for about a year, just because my experience with BCAH--and specifically Dr. Deb--was so completely different from what others have written.  I sincerely hope you give them a try, as I think they are a gem.I first went to Dr. Deb some 12 or 13 years ago, with my then-10-year-old cat Selma.  My cat had a lot of fight in her, and would usually try to bite her way out of the exam.  Dr. Deb would laugh and call for backup, and between her and the other tech they would give Selma her exam.  I never saw them be anything but gentle and firm--exactly what my cat needed. We continued to see Dr. Deb until Selma's death after 10 more years.  Over the years Dr. Deb helped me decide, with a lot of compassion and understanding, what care was reasonable (e.g. bi-weekly sub-q fluid therapy at home and the occasional kitty laxative) and what might have been, well, unnecessary and over the top care that neither me nor my cat was up for (e.g. surgery, invasive tests, hourly feedings).  When Selma's time came, at age 20, Dr. Deb was unbelievably compassionate and helpful in making the decision.  After we put her down, no one came after me when I ran out of the clinic crying (and completely forgetting to pay.)  When I came back the next week to pay them, the guy at the counter didn't bat an eyelash (he even said "Happens all the time, we understand.")  I feel very indebted to BCAH and Dr. Deb for taking such good care of my cat over the years, and in the end for making a very difficult decision just a little easier.Recently I was fostering a cat for a few months, and took her in to see Dr. Deb for a checkup.  I experienced the same heartfelt care for a kitty that was pretty long overdue for some care and testing.  My experience has been that their prices for a kitty checkup and various testing were competitive, and they were fine with me filling prescriptions from an online pharmacy (drug prices were a little high, but they were in line with other places I called.  Definitely look online for drugs.)Pet care is a very personal choice, and the most important thing is finding the vet you click with.  For me, Dr. Deb & I clicked, and I highly recommend that you check them out. I really loved this clinic at first. Everyone is pretty friendly and they can usually get you in on a moment's notice, but after 2 years, I grew tired of the unnecessary tests they "recommend" (aka guilt you in to) and their high prices. After moving on to a new vet clinic, I have learned that many of the tests they performed on my dog were not needed at all. I have also found that their prices are significantly higher than that of a competing clinic, just down the street. Not cool. I suggest taking your animals elsewhere. Read Less

It has taken me some time to write this review due to the pain of losing my cat of many years recently. As a long time pet owner, I feel compelled to write this. I began at Blue Cross a few years ago and never felt completely comfortable.  My cat was skittish and the employees were routinely aggressive and not sympathetic.  This past summer, he became ill.  Upon examination, the techs were rough, rude, and aggressive with my cat. He became aggressive and lashed out and they blamed this on me.  One of the techs scolded me as if I was a child.   I cannot imagine all pets come in to this place in a happy mood! He was scared and sick and the staff showed absolutely no compassion for a cat that was clearly suffering.  I was even more disappointed by Dr. Deb's method of treatment who did the minimum number of tests on my cat.  She prescribed a  method of treatment for a condition that I have since proven through two other vets was completely misdiagnosed and caused more problems to my cat.  If I called with questions, she was unsympathetic and uncaring.  After realizing that my cat needed quality care, I switched to another vet.  He did a battery of tests and found out that my cat had lymphoma.  He even worked with me and a specialist.  These two vets went above and beyond and were caring and loving.  It was night and day from my experience at Blue Cross. He never loved going to the vet and due to his illness he had his frightened moments when he didn't want to be touched and would want to scratch or hide.  However, my new vet and the specialist vet treated me and my cat with dignity. My cat was able to have a pleasant 3 months and then when he became ill again, he was able to die in dignity and peace due to caring and compassionate veterinary care.  Thank goodness, I left Blue Cross.  I cannot express how hurt and disappointed I am by the treatment Blue Cross subjected my cat to during his illness.  I cannot begin to describe how disappointed I felt with my contact with this place and with Dr. Deb.  I have never written a bad review like this but I feel compelled to warn others away from this place.  If you have a different experience, good for you and I am glad that you have had good care but my experience was absolutely one of the worst in my life.  I cannot ever recommend this place. I have been going here for 10 years now, referred by a friend who is a ""dog fanatic."" When I die I want to come back as her dog! I recently lost my dog through an accident, and they were as compassionate, caring, thorough yet conservative with expenses as possible. I found them to care a whole lot while not being ""mushy."" After losing my pet when he got referred for emergency surgery, they were very compassionate and remembered to mention him to me when bringing my new dog. They are enthusiastic with their support, truthful and honest and to the point, and inexpensive for their professional services. I have had to take my pet other places two times, and if I thought that was better for my animal I would not hesitate to change. I continue to come to all of the doctors at Blue Cross (I don't have a favorite), and trust them with my pet above anyone else. Read Less

We had two very different experiences at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital. We took our dog in the day after we adopted him because he had kennel cough. He was seen by a vet tech who was busy doing her nails at the front desk when we came in. She didn't listen to anything we had to say about his symptoms, getting any information from her was like pulling teeth, and as far as I could tell, she didn't really like dogs. (She was pretty rough putting in a subcutaneous i.v., barely interacted with him, etc.) We took him in for a follow up visit two weeks later, and he was seen by a really wonderful veterinarian who was very good with dogs, who gave him a thorough checkup, explained his condition clearly to us, and gave us good advice on treating kennel cough outside of just "give him these antibiotics". Unfortunately, the bill was kind of high. (About 50% higher than a comparable check up at the U of M Animal Hospital.)Maybe our first visit was completely atypical, but given the bill, we didn't feel like going back to find out.

Read Less

These women (it is all women) are some of the most compassionate and attentive doctors I have encountered. My dogs actually like going to the vet because they know they are going to get lots of cookies and love from the people there. If there is something they can't do, they will refer you to someone who can (My lab needed hip surgery and they urged me to take her to the U of M, which was the best choice).

Read Less

Dr. Kristi has been absolutely wonderful to myself and my dog (a Bloodhound who is not a big fan of going to the vet) for three years now. She also treats my friend's Old English Sheep Dog. We both honestly feel she has taken the time to get to know both us and our dogs. When there is a health issue, she takes the time to research and explain treatment options, giving us the information we need. She is willing to recommend other facilities for things like physical therapy. She is very positive and upbeat, as well. I can't imagine anyone I'd trust more with my pet.

Read Less
