We wanted to find a vet that was closer to home for our cat and dog. My experience at first was neutral, not great but not bad. We brought our dog in because he had a ear infection that is very common with floppy eared dogs and he has had many of them. They gave a medicine he had never had before and after a few days he went deaf. I called and no one seemed to really care. I went back in and the Dr. looked at his ears and shrugged. I had done my research and found that it was not uncommon with this particular med to have dogs go deaf. He did not seem to really care at all. To have a 10 year old dog who still acts like a puppy to go deaf was devastating to us and all he could do was shrug? Then as I walked out the door I was told that would be $50.00 dollars for the visit. Wow! I paid but I will never return, horrible service and no compassion at all. Read Less

Unfortunately I have to leave a bad review. We began bringing our dog to Diamond Lake Animal Hospital in the Spring; our dog was losing her hair, panting and in bad health in general. After several weeks of tests, Dr. Peterson seemed to believe our dog had Cushing's disease. We began treatment with a pill, the vet followed up and things seemed to be improving. After a few months, our dog had a seizure immediately after taking the pill. We called the hospital and were told it was nothing even though we expressed alarm (seizures were a fatal side effect of the medication). Dr. Peterson never called us after the seizure to follow up and I even sent him an email explaining our concerns. No one responded. We ended up bringing our dog to her old clinic in Rochester, at which point we called DLAH to have her records faxed and, again, express our disappointment. Over a month later, I finally received an email from Dr. Peterson saying that he dropped the ball with replying to my email. Our dog has now passed away, and his email was too little too late. A veterinary clinic should do everything in their power to make sure their customers are confident with the care of their pets and compassionate in every interaction. This was not the case at Diamond Lake Animal Hospital, and I would not recommend their service. In addition to the complete lack of communication, both women who work at the front desk/are veterinary assistants are aloof and were rude and uncaring to both my mother and I. Read Less

I was taking my Dogs to Dr.Oak's clinics.Very friendly people specially Mr. Jeff. To day I took my dog for nail clipping. while they took my dog in for the required service ,lady at the front desk asked me to pay $20.00 whereas I paid $15.99 two months back. There is no rate chart posted any where in the reception room. When I questioned why the increase in charges ? I was told every place charge more now.I checked around all places in Richfield. Petco charge $10.00, Petsmart charge $10.00 trimming & or $ 14.00 with grinding. It is not only the overcharging the laughing & smirks on two front desk girls faces made me very angry & upset. I hope to move to Minneapolis (even tho I don't like to shovel snow!) in about 2 years, to teach rocket science to kindergarteners. I have a herd of cats and 2 little dogs, so finding a good vet is VERY important to me. This vet sounds wonderful. Here in Enid, Oklahoma, we have The Cat Clinic which is for cats only, and we dearly LOVE them. (I would love to start a clinic for dogs, and call it The Doggie Doctor!) At any rate, I would definitely try out this clinic based on the reviews. After all, I'm a Batty Old Cat Lady With Two Little Dogs, and the vet we choose means a lot to us. --Margaret Tivis, in Enid, Oklahoma Read Less

Dr. Oachs and his staff are absolutely fantastic, delivering a world class vet experience. I discovered them as a recommendation when a friend heard about the astronomical prices I was being charged at New Hope Animal hospital. Dr. Oachs took the time to address my concerns, always gave me several options regarding the care of my cat, and even gave me a lesson in how to determine if my cat's bladder was full (since he was having urinary tract blockage issues). This helped me be able to determine whether or not I needed to bring him in. I've moved all over the metro area, but no matter where I land, I will always, always take my animals to Diamond Lake. We've been going to DLAH since we adopted our two dogs from the Humane Societies of St. Paul and Golden Valley 4 years ago. Every staff member is very sweet to both humans and pets! When we adopted our first dog, he was extremely malnourished (he needed to gain over 15 pounds!) but wouldn't eat because everything we tried agitated his stomach. Dr. Oakes recommended a raw diet with clear and personal instructions, and it was exactly the kind of advice we needed to get our pup back on the track to good health. He gained weight in no time and we were able to move him off of raw food and onto a premium grain-free dry food within several months. I'm so thankful he didn't just tell us to go on Science Diet for sensitive stomachs like so many vets around here do for the sake of money - yuck! Prices are great as well (better than a suburban vet we had to go to once due to timing). We'll go to DLAH as long as we have dogs (which will be forever!). Read Less

I switched from a higher priced Vet to Dr Oaks a few years ago and have never regretted the decision. His care of my three rescue dogs is excellent and he also cared for all of my numerous foster dogs. I have recommended Dr Oaks and staff to many friends, all of whom have had great experiences. Dr Oaks and staff have always taken the time to educate me. He also diagnosed a case of sarcoptic mange, which is difficult to diagnose, in one of my fosters and successfully treated the mange. I have always appreciated the knowledge, passion for animals and straight shooting from this Vet and his staff. A couple of years ago I switched dog food and all three of my dogs gained weight. He mentioned the weight gain and we had a good discussion about it (seeing them every day I was not aware of how much they had gained). I would expect to be the recipient of a stern talk if I were ever to bring in a badly behaved animal over which I had no control. There is no reason to subject other people or the office staff to dangerous behavior. Read Less

I have been gonig to this Vet for a number of years, and have had mostly decent experiences. There have been times where the service is good and have had no issues. Then there are the times where the service at the front desk is unfriendly and lacking. The last visit was a horrifying for my mother, who was heloing me out, and for my dog. ( a mini dachshund) The Vet tech mishandled my dog who is known to be snippy in the office because he is scared and then asked my mother to muzzle the dog after she lost control. After which my mother was trying to concole the dog but was scolded and told to go back and wait. My dog was so scared and mishandled that insted of giving up the tech continued to force control over my dog that once the dog was given back to my nother he pooped all over, and had been so traumatized that continued to shake and hide the entire night. I did go talk to the techs and they response was not in the least appologetic and felt that they did nothing wrong. I will never go back and hope that this review would change your mind as well. When service is good it's fine but when it isn't good it's not just bad it is appalling. Read Less

Dr. Oakes moved into my neighborhood 20 years ago. I took my 3 cats in for fleas at the same time I set of a flea bomb in my house. The staff said to give him this new kind of flea drops on their skin, I asked if it was safe and nothing would make them sick. They said, ""Oh No"", it's safe. So they gave this stuff to all 3 cats. I walked home with the 3 cats in the kennel and sat outside my home with them while waiting for the flea bomb to be done when all of a sudden, all 3 cats began to cry, shake and foam at the mouth. This horrible smell was coming from them. I thought they were dying. I rushed them back to the vet, this time with my boyfriend who witnessed this event. He told Dr. Oakes what just happened, Dr. Oakes was so cold and said it was just coincidental that all 3 had foamed at the mouth and that this incident had nothing to do with the flea medicine. My boyfriend got angry at his really poor attitude and acted like he didn't care about our cats at all. The next thing I knew, Dr. Oakes was actually in my boyfriends face yelling at him and drawing his fists. I realized this Dr was crazy. I knew then why he had tortured my poor cat when he declawed him and only ""Glued"" his open paws shut and didn't even bandage him upon going home. Cat litter got into the ""Glued"" wound and he began bleeding all over the house. We had to take him to the Golden Valley hospital, they were shocked at the crappy way Dr Oakes did the surgery. They stitched his paw up, AND bandaged it for petes sake, anyone would do that, and then gave us antibiotics for him. All this because Dr. Oakes didn't want to take the time for my cat and declaw him properly. So, that is 2 events that happened to us. We give the sign of the cross when ever we pass his office which is daily. We cannot stand the man. He is a creepy fellow. I don't think he likes cats. Read Less

Read Less
