Pet Crossing Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic

Minneapolis, Minnesota
General Info
Pet Crossing Animal Hospital & Dental Clinic was established in 1997 by Dr. Kate Knutson and Dr. Steve Barghusen.
Their vision was to establish a facility where clients and their four-legged family members could receive quality care in a friendly environment. They wanted to have their patients actually enjoy coming to the doctors’ office. That’s why every patient gets lots of treats, pats, hugs and kisses!
Our mission is to provide state of the heart care for you and your pet.We pledge to provide compassionate, high quality care for our patients and their families through advanced diagnostics and treatments, continuing staff training, and most importantly, education for our clients so that they can make informed decisions regarding their pet’s health care.
Our Promise to You:
We will treat you and your pet gently, honestly and with respect.
We will recommend the best care for your pet.
We will provide you and your pet with the best care.
We will remain up to date on our knowledge of diagnostic and treatment options.
We Also Offer:
The option of being with your pet before and after surgery.
The option to observe your pet’s dental or surgical procedure.
A state of the art facility.
A Life Stages booklet for every patient.
Written report cards after each visit.
A written comprehensive health care plan for each pet.
A staff with years of experience in dentistry and laser surgery.
A positive approach to preventive health care.
Attention to quality of life issues.
Pain assessment and management.
In addition to making sure every patient is as comfortable as possible, we make a commitment to the highest quality medical, dental and surgical care. This is reflected by the use of the most up to date diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, from ultrasound to laser surgery.
We are a full service American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited facility. AAHA accredits veterinary hospitals based on a list of nearly 1000 standards of care. Only about 15% of veterinary facilities in the United States are AAHA accredited.

I started bringing my 6 year old miniature poodle here right after we adopted him. I loved it at first, they were super friendly and welcoming although the price is a bit higher than other places I have gone to. I give a two star rating because of the last appointment we had, my fiance brought our dog to what was supposed to be a follow up appointment to some sort of infection he got to see if the antibiotic had worked correctly. I was still a bit concerned about his soft stool and when my fiance mentioned that to the vet he said he didn't see anything wrong but they could run a blood test if we were still concerned. My fiance agreed to the test because he thought I would want to be sure that our dog was okay. The bill for the visit was $500 for one stool sample check and one blood test. If the vet did not see anything wrong with the stool sample we brought in why in the world would he suggest a blood test that was over $400? I understand that he asked my fiance if we wanted the test, and my fiance agreed to it, but I think the professional thing to do would be to warn us that this test was so expensive beforehand. We will not be returning to this vet again, and will not be recommending it to anyone, such a disappointment. Read Less

The staff at Pet Crossing provide the most compassionate care I have ever experienced. I have a dog with severe restraint anxiety, making it very difficult to administer vaccines and give an exam. They are always so patient with him, and take as much time as he needs as to not make his anxiety worse. Dr. B helped us through a very scary time when my pup was sick, and the staff regularly called to check in afterwards. Thanks Pet Crossing, for making companion animals your lives! Read Less

After a trip to urgent care AND being poorly treated by a previous vet, I finally found people who care for the animal, as well as the human. To be specific, I called for appt. for my sick cat and they got me in right away even thought I was not a current patient, they even asked me to text pics of my cat's face so they had some idea of what to expect. When I got there, they took a sample of the yucky stuff from his wound to check for a bacterial infection, which they found. This allowed them to prescribe the right antibiotic for the infection.  He's healing nicely now and although it's been a rough couple of weeks for us both, I'm so pleased I found a caring, pragmatic and professional vet -- Pet Crossing in Bloomington.  Oh yes! The vet also called me the next day to see how Meowsers was doing.  :)If Yelp had a 10 star option I would take it! Read Less

Best vets we have ever had and the care is exceptional. The personal time we get during our yearly checkups is amazing - very comprehensive and never rushed. Dental care is FAR more important for pets than you would think. It changed our dogs so much after their cleanings and some teeth removal, both emotionally and physically.  Calmer and much happier dogs and far more trusting of people and other pets.  We couldn't be happier.  It will cost more,  but you get what you pay for here. Pet Crossing Animal Hospital was recommended to me for my new rescue, who is quite shy and fearful.  Everyone there was wonderfully attuned to Arnold's needs, had good skills (avoiding eye contact, sitting down on the floor with him, and not reaching towards him too quickly).  They took their time, and let my dog just relax and get comfortable.  After only 10 minutes, Arnold was not just eating treats, but even licking the hands of the doctor and assistant.  He has NEVER reacted that way at a vet clinic before.  Amazing.  After the appointment was over, the office staff made a particular effort to make sure the lobby was empty, so Arnold did not get reactive.  He enjoyed sniffing around and getting to know the place at his own pace.NOTE:  For anyone with a fearful dog, never never let your veterinarian take him/her into the back room without being present.  Take charge of structuring the environment, and making sure your pup is treated in a calm and caring manner. I have been going to Pet Crossing for over 10  years now with various cats and dogs, and so have family members.  The dogs think this veterinary practice is the "Mother Ship," as they want to come here even when they are not going here... just like Peter Pan.  As far as the care, the extraordinary care has been for Dog Dental, and Weight-Maintenance, and for another relative, for a cat's laser-declaw.  One time, trying to save money, we went somewhere else--the dogs all had allergic reactions to the other cheap place vaccinations, and not only did we have the stress, but the extra cost of antidotes for the dogs.  I would NEVER do that again.  This practice has at least two or more experienced, and dedicated, well-qualified vets who really give top care to your animals, if that is what you want.  The boarding services for clients here have also been "no worries."  Some of the front-desk and V.A. assistant staff who I have come to know have also been very sincere and make you comfortable and welcome here... you are not just a number. If you do enlist their veterinary services they are very pushy in an annoyingly attempt to push dental care and teeth cleaning for your pet. Don't get suckered into unnecessary dental care for your pet. Although I'm sure that the veterinary care is adequate, this is a review of their boarding services.   First of all, in order to qualify for boarding services your pet must be a patient of the veterinary. It is important to note that they are not there on Sunday. Your pet is basically left unattended all day on Sunday.   The check-in and checkout process is unnecessarily time-consuming. Plan on spending at least 20 minutes waiting around to check in your pet and 20 minutes to check your pet out when you pick it up. Most of the time you have to wait around for someone to even come to the front desk. These people will waste your time while acting like they are doing you a favor.   They are nice enough but there are better boarding options in the Southwest Metro Area. Read Less
