If they don't have an immediate answer, they will not hesitate to admit that and go get an answer. I was very happy with the care my cat received at Plymouth Heights. The staff there were all sweet and attentive, and always gave a lot of information about my cat's particular health needs as well as treatment recommendations to expect as she gets into her old age. The treatment kept me coming back even as I moved farther away. I needed a new vet because of a bad experience with a former one. I was referred to Plymouth Heights Animal Hospital and I couldn't be happier. My dog needed 2 surgeries within a 10 day period. They brought in a board certified orthopedist who took very good care of her. The aftercare through the vets and their staff at the clinic was top notch. They are knowledgeable and compassionate and helped both me and my dog through a very difficult time. Recently, I brought my dog in to have one of the pins removed from behind her knee. After examining her, the doctor recommended that we delay the procedure...possibly indefinitely as my dog is doing very well. No need to put her through another surgery unnecessarily. I trust their judgment and know that they will always put the needs of my dog first. I would recommend them to anyone. Read Less

The doctors are kind and compassionate; immensely talented; and they take the time to bring all their skills to bear on their patients and their anxious owners. Also I have found they are very transparent and open about pricing and options. They give written estimates. Amazingly, I can confirm that my experience has been that every single time I have had an estimate for surgery or teeth cleaning or services they have always been LOWER than the estimate they quoted. We brought our Shit-zu in for knee surgery Friday. Great staff very caring and informative!! Dr Flemming called me twice to let me know how Charlie was doing and to explain how the surgery went and what he did. Picked him up this morning and the Dr. on duty explained how Charlie had done overnight and this morning and the meds and physical therapy for the next couple of weeks. They have taken care of my pets and me throughout all the twists and turns. WARNING make sure if your seeking any type of emergency care you consider going someplace else. Even though kind, I found my experience with this establishment less than desirable to say the least. After a couple hours with my lethargic not moving (had to be carried) and pale gums puppy from tests Friday they diagnosed my dog with anemia, sent me home (10:15am) with medication to fight infection and vitamin K incase of poison ingestion. In the parking lot when I put him in the car he collapsed and went limp so I asked the vet to look at him again they had been kind enough to come out and take vitals again. Called them immediately after I got home (10:28) he collapsed and he wouldn't even swallow, the pills he just kept in his mouth. They had the vet call me back. After discussing options with them they identified while they likely could do more tests they wouldn't likely be able to treat my dog and would refer me to emergency clinic in EP or UoM. By the time they pointed this out my puppy was minutes away from death. This was my first puppy and just find it hard to believe they didn't have the experience to just refer me to emergency care immediately. I spent hundreds of dollars for them to send me home with some worthless overpriced meds just to watch my best friend die!  Dog passed away just several hours after they saw him, was in constant contact with them and while they made themselves available I found them less than helpful. How all business should be run--caring staff, above and beyond service.  Our family dog, Friday, became very ill last week.  A visit to the vet revealed a huge tumor in his abdomen that was squishing all his organs.  Likely cancerous and spreading as he'd had a few seizures leading up to this visit.  Friday had a good run--12 years for a golden retriever is a good life.  The vet was empathetic and gentle in explaining there was nothing we could do.  Over the next few days, Friday stopped eating and lost ability to walk.  The vet called us every day to check on him.  We ended up deciding to put him to sleep rather than watch him suffer.  The facilities at the vet are wonderful--a private entrance to bring him in, a quiet room where we could all be together with Friday, and a very quick and peaceful process.  The vet even teared up a little as we said our goodbyes and bawled.  We were given as much time as we wanted/needed in the room after.  And a condolences card signed by the vet and all her staff arrived in the mail yesterday.  Other than curing cancer, I couldn't think of a single thing they could have done better.  You will not regret entrusting the life of your fur baby to this wonderful staff. I love the people and the service, however they offer no after hours or weekend support whatsoever.  For even simple issues,  you will be referred to a generic after hours vet who has no access to your records or your vet.   The person who answered the phone at the weekend clinic was rude and adamant that the only way to get any support, was to pay a highly inflated fee, have their vet see your pet, and start the diagnosis from the scratch.   Until Plymouth Heights addresses afterhours service, I recommend using a different vet. My boys (dogs) love this place -- and so do I! Staff members are so nice and caring...and knowledgeable. We take them here for their shots/yearly check-ups and just love it. It's not open for emergency services (there's clinics in Golden Valley and Eden Prairie that are, though) We don't use the boarding services, as we have family members who take the dogs. I boarded my large & small dog for a long weekend at PHPH.  They have a new hospital & boarding facility for both dogs & cats, that was clean, bright, & staffed by caring people who didn't overlook a thing.  My dogs were able to board together in a large cage with comfy bedding (I didn't provide my own bedding because my large dog tears bedding up when she is bored).  I was able to tour the kennel area.  I got a photo of my dogs while they were boarding, & there was a report card that summarized their visit-what their attitude was, how they ate & rested.  I was able to prepay for their stay-4 nights, they both needed the bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine which the staff administered, $242-& when I picked them up everything was ready.   They offer a complimentary bath for a stay of that length which I declined unless they became dirty, which they didn't.  It was obvious they cared.  I would go back without hesitation. (They never minded my calls mid-way through vacation to "check on her", and she often came home from boarding with new toys.)
