NVAC has an unbelievable combination of caring, understanding, compassion, professionalism and knowledge. We have taken our dogs there for a few years and are extremely impressed of how you are treated like family. They understand and appreciate not only you, but your pet as well. The staff goes the extra mile, and there have been times where I even felt bad because they cared so much and went above and beyond what they could have. I have been going to Northern Valley Animal Clinic for over 12 plus  years. First with my beloved Ali, who passed away in 2011. Now, for the past 5 1/2 years with my precious little 4 lb Chihuahua, Shiloh. Dr. Herman is awesome! In fact, the entire staff are wonderful, caring and compassionate people. I am proudly owned by four healthy mid-teen-aged cats. They have received all their care from the Veterinarians at Northern Valley Animal Clinic. All receive yearly exams and vaccinations as prescribed by them, and have thrived. Yearly exams are so important because their caregivers can catch problems we can not and prevent resulting bigger health problems. Recently, my cat Henry had a hematoma in his outer ear. Dr. Treder treated him initially and when it did not heal as expected, doggedly (pun intended) persisted until the ear healed nicely. The technicians and office staff are professional and helpful. Northern Valley provides great care for the animals, but we personally feel like they overcharge and take advantage of clients for the services they provide. Something that would cost $80.00 in Kasson/Byron (for the same care and treatment) costs $150.00 at Northern Valley. Do your research before committing to a vet. After spending $400+ for a thyroid exam, only to follow up 6 weeks later getting charged another $106 for a five minute re-check; on top of charging $18.00 for a technician to call and leave a voicemail, it certainly adds up. We would rather spend the difference on road trips to lakes and dog toys and treats then unnecessary charges. I know of numerous pet owners who have sought out care at other vet facilities because of their astronomical charges, and sadly, we will be doing the same. Read Less

My experience with Northern Valley Animal Clinic unfortunately began with having my Heart-Rat Stanley PTS. When I initially called the Clinic, Kim was very understanding and compassionate. When I asked to be with Stanley during the procedure, I was initially told 'no.' I pressed the issue and stated I was always with my animals when it was time for euthanasia! Kim checked with Dr. Treder and I was told 'yes.' When the time came, Dr. Treder agreed with me and acknowledged the fact that Stanley was suffering while trying to breathe. We talked in the exam room for at least 15 minutes, and I felt that Dr. Treder really cared about my Stan. It was important to me that Stanley be helped to the Bridge by someone who truly cared. The vet tech took an impression of Stanley's feet and gave me the clay with instructions on baking a loving memory. The euthanasia procedure was much more expensive than the other vet we used in the Cities, but I didn't want my pet to suffer any longer during another 1.5 hour drive. I will utilize Northern Valley Animal Clinic again. Read Less

Northern Valley is the most professional and caring veterinary experience we've ever had. Our pets have been extremely well looked after and the staff are amazingly knowledgable. They have diagnosed rare conditions in our pets and know exactly how to treat them. (The in house lab is wonderful! to get an answer right away is such a great benefit) We'll never go to another place after having found Dr. McKie amd Northern Valley. Read Less

I've had 4 dogs at NVAC since 1995. When it was time to let our 1st go...a 12-yr old collie with diminishing quality of life...you helped us see that it was her time to be free. When we lost our 2nd suddenly (at AEVC - aged 15), you let us know you cared. Last Dec, you spent time on the phone to discuss a poisoning issue with "dog 4". Last month, you spent time on the phone AGAIN, with "dog 3" concerns. Yesterday, you shared our sorrow when we lost dog 3 suddenly (also at AEVC - aged 12)! My experience with Dr. Treder at Northern Valley was very good. I brought in my dog with a severe infection that was persisting despite treatment by another veterinarian. Dr. Treder was very attentive, listened to my concerns and ideas. He accepted phone calls and several visits. Ultimately my dog is on the path to recovery. Yes, I find that Northern Valley is more expensive than a small town vet. But it was the mistake of a small town vet that led to my dog suffering for two+ months. Read Less

I have been taking my 4 legged child to this care site for over two years. He has received excellent care from compassionate practitioners. While some say vet care can seem expensive, I recognize this is all due to a lack of perspective. My loved one is worth every penny of care he receives and the staff that cares for him is worth being paid their fair share. The technology used to treat my dog is on par with most human medical care and the staff at NVAC do their very best to do what is reasonable and in my 4 legged child's best interest. Thank you! I bought a BRT pup from a top breeder in FL, back in July. She had her vet check the pup and she was deemed totally healthy and was sent up to me. I brought her to Dr. Treder a day later and he saw occlusions in her eyes and thought they were probably congenital cataracts. He sent me to an ophthalmologist specialist in the cities who confirmed the diagnosis. That specialist was totally impressed that Dr. Treder picked up on that diagnosis. The pup was sent back to the breeder. Last weekend, we traveled to Kansas still in search for a BRT from a different breedline. The breeder knew how apprehensive I was about getting another dog with problems so after I picked out a pup, she had set up an appointment with a vet down there. He gave her a clean bill of health and we traveled back to MN. The following day I had Dr. Treder give her a double check. Her eyes were clear, no cataracts....BUT he heard a grade 3 heart murmur. Dr. Treder helped me set up an appointment with a cardiologist for an echo. The cardiologist confirmed that the 12 week old puppy has not 1 but 2 congenital heart problems and from the look of the echo, they are inoperable, best guess is that she will only live to 3 or 4 years old. I am heartsick about both pups, but so very grateful that Dr. Treder is such a fabulous vet who picks up problems that other vets don't see. I am really amazed at his vast knowledge about so many different aspects of a dogs health. I have total faith in him and the extremely helpful, caring staff at NVAC.Read Less
