We took my childhood pets (dog and cat) to Shamrock and always had good experiences, so it made sense to come back to them with the dogs we own now. Our Jack Russell Terrier mix needed his teeth cleaned and Shamrock gave us the cheapest quote out of several vets in the south metro. And they did a great job! Dr. Mary Matzek was so awesome and told us that dog dentistry was her “passion.” We knew our dog was in good hands! Also, after having a terrible experience at a vet in Eagan we brought our Corgi mix to see Dr. Hansen. He was very attentive, kind and understanding to our needs/concerns. Let me beat you to it before you say, “I’m sorry we don’t have you as an existing patient.” Save the nonsense, my dogs name is Sparky. He’s been going to this place since he was a puppy. Check your files before you wanna cover up your nonsense with an excuse. He was just in your clinic yesterday, and he was picked up covered in urine. I’m guessing he wasn’t taken out? And this was before you decided to charge an arm and a leg with unnecessary tests that weren’t approved or discussed & DID NOT HELP MY DOG. End result - •He was picked up covered in urine. Did you take him out while he was at your facility? •Did you even try feeding him? Knowing he hasn’t eaten in days? How bout giving him water? •My dog was not cured at all. Instead, a hefty bill was provided at the end of the visit. •OH, & he’s been shaking since he’s been home. did you traumatize my dog? Is it because my mother schooled your staff at the reception? I was super disappointed with Shamrock. Our first visit was with our 2 pets. One pet being a senior dog (11 years old) and our other was an 8 week old kitten. The staff cooed and awed over our kitten (understandably) but showed little to no attention to our senior dog who actually had a lump on her back that I was concerned about. They were not helpful what-so-ever with explaining what the lump could be, what we should watch for, or any advice. I left their office at the first initial visit with just a bad feeling in my stomach. I then wrote them to tell them my disappointment with our first visit. Their office manager called me and she was very helpful but I can say she was the only staff member that we came across that I was not disappointed with. I had to ask to see a different Dr. and bring our dog back in to get them to actually take a better look at the lump. Our 2nd visit with our senior dog wasn't much better. We have an English Mastiff. The first vet he visited told us that he might grow to be 75lbs lol! It was clear this vet was not very knowledgeable about this breed. My first visit and subsequent second visit to Shamrock was amazing! The vets were very knowledgeable about our dog. The staff were super friendly at the reception. The waiting area is very comfortable and even offered coffee. I could take my dog to the bathroom with me which was helpful. The exam room our dog was in was large and well appointed with a neat couch in it. Our dog slobbered in our Vet's hair and she was super fun about it. All in all, we %100 recommend this for anyone who wants excellent care for their pets. Read Less

Upon moving to the area in 2009, I visited many veterinary clinics before settling on Shamrock Animal Hospital as my 'go to' clinic. I find the veterinarians and staff to be personable, professional, and knowledgeable, but most important to me is their knowledge of giant breed dogs. Additionally, I volunteer for a rescue which actively monitors costs, and Shamrock is one of the most reasonably priced clinics in the area. Read Less

I've been to 2 other pet clinics with my pet and both did not have the quality of care for my miniature dachshund Aurora. They really give you all the best options to take care of your pet the best way possible. I have annual dental cleanings done here for my dog because her teeth get so dirty being a small breed dog. They also helped her go from an obese 14 pound dog to a healthy weight dog at 7# by recommending me to a prescription weight loss diet that worked like a charm! Our poor pooch broke his leg in November. It ended up having to be amputated but my fiancée and I were here for daily vet appointments. The animal care here is not great, A close friend took their very sick cat there to have it put down and had a horrible experience. Not enough medication was given and the process took a very long time until they insisted on giving the cat more. They skimp on medicine, animals suffer, but they still charge plenty. Go elsewhere for more compassion and better care for your pets. Read Less

Our cat managed to get out of the house and was injured by another animal overnight. I called Shamrock Animal Hospital first thing in the morning and they got me in right away. They provided excellent care for our cat. They were understanding and sensitive. They fully explained the care and charges and let me know if they needed to do more, they would check with me first. We like to support local businesses but the day we needed them for our animal that got hurt.  The staff told us to go somewhere else because they were to busy.  It was hours till they closed that Saturday.  At the very least, they could have looked at our pet .  I wouldn't recommend them to anyone and I don't! I feel the care my pets get from here is pretty high quality. The staff all seem to know what they're doing and for this reason we have used them for years. Same day appointments have never been a problem when we've needed them in the past. The last few visits I've had to wait for quite a while to have my pets seen once we were in the office. 1 of them was over 45 minutes of waiting. The part that took my review down from a 5 star down to a 3 is what I feel is high pressure sales tactics to get more services done. Vet visits are already not cheap, but it seems like every time I take my cats in there is something extra they want to do. My cats are both 13 now, and as much as I want them to be healthy and live forever, I also don't want to sink hundreds of dollars into some tests that might not show me anything when the cats seem fine. I brought my 4 year old corgi in for a carnassial tooth extraction to Shamrock Animal Hospital. The procedure was extremely affordable, it was done properly and correctly, and they even found that two of his little bottom front teeth were a bit loose (he's an aggressive chewer!) and they extracted those without charging me for it! My corgi had to have this procedure done prior to this on his other carnassial tooth and unfortunately we had chosen a different vet clinic. They were expensive, and they didn't get the entire tooth out! He started to get an infection and we brought him back to this other vet, they apologized (but that's it) and told me they would need to put him under again and it would cost me almost the same amount to have the small chunk of tooth taken out that should have been completed the first dang time. Ridiculous! I wish I would have found Shamrock first and so does my corgi. Have been loyally using this clinic for 10+ yrs.(as have my parents, for their dog and cat) always had nothing but outstanding care for my dog...But,  sadly over the last two yrs. I have noticed a steep decline in every aspect of the visit. Starting with the receptionist who more often then not is rather rude. Which I can deal with(certainly not a deal breaker) however the following events has made me find it necessary to find  another vet. The prices and the up-selling of treatments/surgery is outrageous. I liken them to used car salesmen.. for example my parents 9 week old puppy went in for shots and they recommended that it have laser eye surgery for his droopy eyelids(which by the way are common in the breed and they normally grow into and he did) I was charged more than $900.00 to have two of my dogs teeth pulled. Next is and was the final straw for me... was that my dogs medication was EXPIRED by almost 8 mo.  and another time I was charged for 120 pills when I only received 90. This also happened another time when I paid for 28 pills and received 14. All on separate visits. This is an unfortunate decline to the clinic I have trusted for so long. I must mention the one doctor I absolutely love and have nothing but wonderful things to say about. Dr. Sarah Wineke. She is the bright spot in an otherwise sinking ship. Read Less

I have been going here since we had our first dog, Tony, a Chihuahua mutt. I must have been around seven years young. I still go here and I am a lot older. I love two of the doctors here, Dr. Matzek and Dr. Wineke (spelling?). They are both ladies. They are the two main doctors Oliver, my Pomeranian and Miss Cleo, my American Shorthair see.I like the fact that this place is open until 7p on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is convenient for those that work 8-5 M-F. They are also open on Saturdays from 8 to noon. One thing I hate about this place is I always spend an arm AND a leg every single time. When I think the tab will be $50, it ends up being $230. My cat is sick. They don't know what's wrong with Miss Cleo. She may have cancer, she may not. The only way to know is to do a $600 ultrasound. No point in doing that. They told me about a year and a half ago, Miss Cleo has either less than a year left OR many years left. What the hell does that mean?Anyways, the doctors here are very nice. Some of the nurses are goons- long story. Be prepared to shell out a lot of money if you decide to bring your furry friend here.
