Dr. Mary and the staff at Ark have been taking care of my now senior (17 yo) cat since he was a kitten. I trust that his current health as a senior has much to do with their care. I brought my rescue cat here twice: once for the newly adopted checkup, once for an injury. Both times I found the receptionist/check-in clerk to not be very friendly. I wasn't greeted either time, and I had to make sure she got me checked into be seen even though, again both times, I was the only one waiting. I found the vet to be not very warm with me or my pet. The first time I thought it could have been a long day and she was tired, but it happened both times. So... going to try another place. Read Less

Everyone was so kind and Dr. Mary Philippson took all the time we needed to walk us through the process. We picked up a cat that had been living on the street and the man who looked after her asked if anyone would be willing to take her in. I highly recommend Ark Pet Hospital! We visited their New Brighton office recently when one of our senior cats fell ill. I am immensely grateful for the compassion and sensitivity that Dr. Mary and team provided throughout the situation. They are amazing folks who truly care. They were also very accommodating when we needed to make appointments. I was impressed that they provided a free account to their online portal, ePetHealth, where I can view my pet's medical history, tests, etc. This is a nice feature that I didn€t have with previous vet. I brought my newly rescued cat here for his first checkup. The women at the front desk are very nice; Holly chatted on the phone with me once about some bad behavior my cat was exhibiting, she gave advice and I didn't feel her pressuring me to hang up (I'm a receptionist myself and know difficult long-winded people can be!). From the other positive reviews, I must have just had a negative experience with Dr. Mary, so factor in other's experiences along with mine. Mary seemed nice, very professional and was fond of my cat. I was excited about connecting with her because this was my first feline in my home and I've always had positive relationships with my past vets. Knowing it's controversial in the cat world and not actually planning on doing it with my cat, I asked about declawing, desiring a professional's thoughts on a procedure I knew little about. Instead I got a round-a-bout answer that didn't place her as hot or cold, and then treated me with slight contempt for the rest of the visit. I was confused and even interjected later to say that I wasn't actually interested in declawing. She seemed surprised and pleased with that, but I didn't like being given the cold shoulder because she had made assumptions. I looked up the procedure later, at least I know what it is now.I give this place an A-OK, others might like it but I simply won't be returning to this hospital for our animals. I love Dr. Mary. Dr. Mary takes care of me; keeps the worms away, makes sure I don't get any rabies or bad infections, made it so I don't have any babies or bloat. I love how nice Dr. Mary is to me. Dr. Mary also takes care of my kitty, brother, Rochester. Dr. Mary took care of my late brother Fred from 3 months until well we won't talk about that. My parents love Dr. Mary as well. The staff here is really nice, competent and caring. No question is dumb, they'll entertain anything you need to ask whether in person, by phone or email. I needed paperwork quickly for my rescue dog's first boarding stay and Ark's staff responded right away by email with what I needed, and even offered to contact the boarding place directly for me. The techs would always help me load my huge mystery mutt into the car when I was pregnant. Great people!! Read Less

Dr. Mary and her staff are great--A+My wife and I have kept them busy over the years. We have 3 giant Presa Canario guard dogs and 5 cats.  In addition, we've had numerous reptiles over the years.  We haven't exactly brought them the easiest clients over the years!  But Ark Pet Hospital has always been great.I really can't say enough good things about them...but I'll try.  Dr. Mary and her staff are not only very knowledgeable, they're also flexible, compassionate, friendly, and the pricing is fair.  I've had two episodes that I'd like to share with Yelp which tells volumes about Dr. Mary and her team.First, we had an elderly cat, Edward, who ran into serious trouble in the end.  It deteriorated to the point of putting him down.  After almost 2 decades together, it was very hard to put Edward to sleep.  Dr. Mary and one of her techs, Angie, actually came to our house and put Edward to sleep in his favorite chair.  My wife and I are incredibly thankful for the compassionate help we received.Second, we had a horrible fight between two of our 150 pound dogs about two years ago.  One of the dogs had life threatening injuries.  Dr. Mary determined that they needed immediate surgical help from the University of Minnesota.  Dr. Mary actually left her practice and helped us transport both of the injured dogs to the U of M for life saving attention.  We couldn't have done it without her since these dogs now hated each other and couldn't ride in the same car...but they both needed to be seen by a surgeon immediately.Of course, they're also good at regular stuff like yearly checkups and shots!Thank you VERY much, Ark Pet Hospital!-Daddy Maxx Retro Read Less

I brought my foster dog here today for a check-up and a few tests.  The staff was very welcoming and compassionate from beginning to end & the vet was very nice and knowledgeable.  I'm not sure what their prices are like, being that I was there with a foster dog (who's expenses are billed to the rescue group).. but I would assume that they are somewhat reasonable.  If you live in the area.. I have brought my dog here for a number of years and am always amazed at how wonderful he is treated.  From the second I walk in the door the staff recognizes me and they are always excited to see my dog.  They make you feel like you are really important to them and not "just another number".  The prices are fair and I am often given estimates re. what the treatments, etc will cost so I have some idea as opposed to them just doing things and handing me a large bill at the end that I am not prepared for.  Dr. Mary is wonderful and always willing to see us problems large or small, and makes sure that my boy is taken care of.  They are a small business which is great because I feel like they have really gotten to know us and want to make a difference in my dog's life. I brought my dog Merlin in a few weeks ago, for his annual exam and vaccinations. I was very please with how knowledgable and friendly the staff and Dr. Mary Philippson the veterinarian were to me and my dog. They made me feel like the genuinly cared about me and Merlin and not that we were just another "number" passing through the door. They mentioned that Merlin needed his teeth cleaned and I found that they were willing to give me an estimate to take home, and I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the price was and it even included bloodwork before they put him under anesthesia.
