We took our very sick dog here they ran some test and then charged us $500 before we even was told what was wrong. Then they said they wanted to keep him over night for another $500. But wasn't gonna give him anything to help him. So we took him so another vet and they said there wasnt anything that could be done. He was dying. A few weeks later a friend took her dog here and had the SAME test was done. I know this bc I had my paper work still. And she was charged $80. NOW her dog wasnt that sick and was giving meds and sent home. Sad to see they will charge a family with a dying pet Soooo much more money for the same service of a pet not dying. I had a puppy that was only a few weeks old. I took him to get his shots. They said he had parvo and I would have him put down OR for an extra 700 they could treat his Parvo. They gave me unreal expectations on how well the treatment would work. We decided to spend the extra money. They called me 2 days later and said he died... and that I still owed them over 500.00 and that they could not see my other animal (which has been going there for 10 years) unless I pay the 500 first. your prices are good...You got us right in the 2 times we came in...when I brought in a shaky stray kitten(hoping to be able to bring her into our family) but ended up being recommended she be put down.. everyone was so sweet and I could tell you all felt as bad as me and sent me a sympathy card for a stray which i kept for her...and when my husband brought our chiweenie in because she was not acting right ...the doctor felt it was allergies and didnt push a ton of tests (just to make money) it turned out it was allergies cause within about 30 mins after giving her the pills she was given she was fine and now she is back to the funny cuddly little dog she always is... Two weeks ago I took my Sammy in as his old age is rapidly approaching. After getting X-rays Dr Davis gave me instructions along with two different meds for Sammy. Each time that time Oscar and I visit we have a great experince and the staff is wonderful, they take the time to answer any questions I have the staff the best. One late night Oscar had a life threating situation, I was really really scared, they took care of my baby , I screwed up and gave him some table food as a treat and almost killed him, they even called to check on him the next day I appreciate the great service they provide. Our dog, Bogey, broke a nail tonight and wouldn't let us touch it. He would yelp with pain at any contact with his paw. I agree with another reviewer when she stated that they only care if it's an extreme case because they get more money. When one of my dogs needed emergency surgery, they were on it full force! But when I brought my yorkie puppy in with a cough that won't go away, they kept saying nothing is wrong. I spent over 300.00 for X-rays and medicine she did not need because they said she had a simple cold but when I took her to desoto county animal clinic, they found out she had a intestinal infection. They do not take the time needed to find out real problems. Plus the older lady at the front desk is so unwelcoming . I give them an extra star for saving my older dogs life, (which cost 1300.00) but the service is not worth going back too. This place is more about the cash and less about the care.Read Less

Not very impressed. Apparently they don't really care about animals unless its an extreme case. Tried taking my cat in for a flea treatment and they told me "just give him a bath in dawn soap then come buy this medicine and put it on him" not every cat owner is an expert on this. Some actually need help to make sure its being done correctly. Their response for help is "find a friend who knows what they are doing." If I could give this an 11 on a scale of 5 I would. I am on a fixed income, I spent my extra income on 2 root canals and crowns this month. I brought a stray cat that I've fed since July. Dr. Jenifer only charged me for the medication. This, to me, shows the concern for the animals that is important in medical care. She was kind, caring and I'm so impressed by her kindness. Dr Davis & his staff are not only friendly & helpful but are up to date on treatments of dogs, especially greyhounds. I have had to take my dogs to the ER at Horn Lake & they were taken care of in a matter of minutes. I was allowed to stay with my dogs each time as they helped me. I had one dog who had seizures, Dr. Davis kept her in his office all day long on a nice bed so he could watch her. He called me off & on that Sunday to let me know how she was. They are convenient to me, even though I'm 17 miles east of their office. I've called & told them I'm on my way & they were waiting in the parking lot for me. On top of which, I found out he & my regular vet are at some of the same conferences. My greyhound friends know to go to Dr. Davis in the case of an emergency, and it's well worth it. My dog of 11 years was seen at the after hour emergency clinic last Thursday night. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure which caused him to have a seizure as well. This was a highly traumatic experience for me and my 5 year old son. (I would also like to mention I am 9 months pregnant and was having contractions due to the stress.) After a x-ray Dr. Mobley came in and sat in the floor, behind the exam table, and never even looked up at us while talking. He acted completely put out that we were there while explaining that my dog's heart was "very enlarged" and he had a lot of fluid in his lungs. I understand that it was 4 AM and my dog had slightly improved, but, he is there to provide a service. He basically said our options were to leave my dog there with him or to go to my vet's office once open. It was very apparent he wanted us to take him. Although terrified, I chose to take him home because I did not trust leaving him there with a completely disinterested vet. I went home and laid in the floor with my dog who was working very hard to breath, while having contractions, for the next 3 hours until my vet's office opened. My dog spent the next day with an I.V. getting medications to stabilize him. To add insult to injury, once the notes were forwarded to my vet's office, it was very obvious they had not even listened to what I told them occurred. Very Very disappointed!! If I could rate them no stars I would. I'm new to the area and I will definitely be researching if there is another emergency vet in the area. Read Less

I regret that I haven't written this review alot sooner. It has been a while since I needed them in an emergency. My 12 year old Border Collie was dying. I didn't want to believe it, so I headed to Horn Lake on a Sunday hoping there would be some help there. She died in the car on the way. I was falling apart when I arrived. They were so kind to me. The vet took time to talk to me and explain what she thought might have happened, as my dog was fine the day before. I really appreciated the kindness shown to me. They took her body from my car and draped her with utmost respect. I'll never forget them for the way they handled me. I would highly recommend them. Read Less

My 14 yr old minpin suffered with a brain tumor for almost a year. I knew his time would be up soon and 3 weeks ago the inevitable happened. His meds were no longer working and he was having multiple seizures. I took him to the Emergency clinic in the morning and Jinx was given valium and more phenobarbitol. He was stable so I took him to my vet to be checked and then we went home. Around 5:00 the valium apparently wore off and he was seizuring again. I knew it was time. The entire euthanasia experience was probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I was told I could hold him but I had to hold him the "right" way. Im not stupid, just tell me what your "right" way is. Then Dr Davis proceeded to put the shot in his leg and he screamed out in pain. I then started screaming to take it out! I have spent a year of my life trying to ensure the dog I love is happy, comfortable and as pain free as possible. And the last few moments of his life was terrible for him! Dr Davis's assistant said rudely "well, he did the same thing this morning!" Well, I think if you knew that, you should have offered up some type of solution. Finally Dr Davis suggested a valium shot to relax him first. And then my baby was gone. This still haunts 3 weeks later and Im writing this hoping that maybe someone at the Emergency Clinic might offer up this suggestion before they put animals down. We've had 4 Rottweilers, 3 from puppy-hood and 1 from about 4 years old. We've been extremely happy with the service and professionalism of the vets and support staff. One of our pets had to be put down a few months ago due to his body simply wearing down due to old age. He lived a very healthy and happy life for over 12 years, which is quite old for the breed. When we had to make the difficult but necessary decision to have him euthanized, they reassured us that we were doing what was best for our fur baby. Afterwards, we received a letter of sympathy signed by all the vets which again gave us comfort in knowing we made the right decision. Our newest addition to the family is a Rottweiler mix we adopted from Memphis Animal Service is also having her needs taken care of by the awesome vets and staff. I know we'll continue using Horn Lake Animal Hospital for all our current and future pets. Read Less

How I wish I'd read reviews before taking our dog there. I tried to reason with myself there was no way they let him die, but I'm convinced now that they did. The first day I took him in, they kept him overnight and sent him home the next morning drugged up saying nothing was wrong but anxiety. When he threw up blood that afternoon, we took him back and left him there on "supportive care" waiting for a call to update us on if surgery would be necessary, but instead woke up the next morning to a call that he was dead. I'd called to check in the night before, was told by a rude tech that there was no change. I trusted so blindly that they'd take care of him and call us if something was really wrong. Was only here once, didn't meet the vet but they took care of us without question and without being judgemental of the situation. The girl at the desk was amazing and very much appreciated. Took my puppy in lastnight after midnight ! He was positive for parvovirus paid 300.00 still 100.00 short told the vet to start treatment I would go to the ATM while my husband remained at the clinic with the puppy! She refused to start the treatment until I came back with the money, when I returned it was to late he had passed! I am very upset with this place and the very RUDE vet on call thanks to her my dog is dead! He might not made it anyway but if she had gone ahead and started the treatment he might have had a chance! I've always done business with this clinic for over 10 years with all my dogs and never have I been treated like I was lastnight! I will never use this place again or refer them to anyone again! I have had many animals over the years and I have never found an animal clinic with more compassionate, caring people. I once had a vet tell to put a dog down because he had diabetes. I went to HLAH for a second opinion and they helped me get my precious pet on insulin and showed me how to give him shots, test his blood sugar and how to adjust his insulin based on his levels. I was able to have have 7 more fantastic years with him. And when his quality of life was compromised, they were the first to tell me it was time to let him go for his sake. We rushed our dying 13-yr-old cat on a 30-minute drive to this emergency hospital. We called ahead so they knew we were coming, and they gave us directions because we were unfamiliar with the area. But he died a few blocks before we got there. We took him in anyway where they were waiting for us, and they examined him, told us what he died of, and prepared him for burial so we could take him back home. They were very caring and didn't charge us a cent. We have been back with other pets since, and they are great. Read Less

We have had to take two of our dogs here for emergency situations. One of them has had to have serious reconstructive surgery due to a dog attack. The doctors and staff have gone above and beyond anything we could expect. They have been so professional and kind and treat our pets like they were their own. The costs have actually been less than what we were expecting and the fact that they are 24 hours makes you feel a little more secure knowing they aren't being left alone at night. While this facility does have state-of-the art equipment and seems knowledgeable, I would like to caution people not to have a false sense of security that this is truly an emergency animal clinic. We had our dog there on two different occaisions for seizures. We were told the second time to keep a log of the length and frequency of the seizures and unless she had five in a 24-hour period it was not necessary to bring her in. Our dog had 6 seizures in less than 12-hours so we figured it was time to take her in. When we got to Horn Lake Animal Hospital, the "Open" sige was lit, we were within the posted hours on the door (after all this is a 24-hour emergency faciility, right) and there was not another car in the lot leading us to believe we could get service. However, we were told they were in an emergency surgery and we could not be seen. We were not invited to wait, told they would attempt to see us as soon as possible or anything of that nature. Instead we were told we could have the number for the Summer Ave location. My issue is not the the dog died--she was relatively old and we knew there was a possibility of her not surviving the seizures. My problem is when a business falsely advertises a services that they are obviously not able to provide. Pets are important and we certainly loved our dog. I guess I should take some comfort in the fact that this facility does not treat humans. Read Less

I have 2 labs. The oldest had heart worms and needed to be treated a.s.a.p. The vets as well as the staff were excellent and professional explaining everything in detail to where I could understand the process.
