I highly recommend this place. I've been going here for 6 years now with my 5 animals and never had an issue or complaint with the doctors or staff. Very nice, friendly staff! The vet techs, the girls at the front desk, the vets. Crain genuinely cares about your pets and understands it can be unexpected and expensive and are willing to work with you all while ensuring your animal has genuine, quality care. Dr. Jerry listened to what i had to say and what all I had already tried with my dog. He took into consideration everything i had alteady tried and didn't repeat what other vets had already tried. Other vets helped the problem temporarily but Dr. Jerry was with me, and wanted to find out the source of the problem and not just find a temporary fix. Dr Rob is so rude and treats you like you like your a pos because you don't want to put your 8 year old pet through stomach surgery when he wont even know the outcome, I wanted her out of her misery and pain and he refused to do it! But because of that my friend took me to pick her up (as I was to upset to drive) and take her to Lee Summit animal Hospital, where I was able to love her, kiss her and say my good byes to her, she is now in no more pain and resting peacefully! Crain Vet had my cat for 7 hours and so mysteriously died. I say mysteriously because I have gotten 3 different stories none are the same. I took my cat in at 8am to help with her constipation. I called at 12:30pm to check it couldnt get an update because everyone was a lunch. Called at 2pm after no call back and he doctor was out somewhere. I get a call later saying my cat died because she had a seizure and died (never had one before) and then they tell me I owe them $445 which to me seemed like total crap because a breathing cat was suppose to come home with me for only $30 more. The staff here is extremely helpful, and the doctors are very patient and understanding, and go out of their way to offer various options and show the cost of each option, and carefully explain the benefits/downsides of each option presented. They also almost always offer discounts on products and services to help reduce the cost of pet services/health maintenance products, as well. When we have needed advanced medical procedures done, I have always found the doctors AND staff all very well-trained and capable, extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and up-to-date on the latest skills and techniques, and very competent in performing them. Took our cat ro get neutered and declawed. A week later and over 600$ spent our cat is dead. They tryed to say he must have ate a plant or something or his kidneys must have been bad his whole life and they just happened to shut down a week after his surgery. When the only thing different was that he had surgery. I told the vet that he is the one who said he would be good for the surgery but clearly he was not because it ended up killing him. He said that would have nothing to so with him dying. I dont believe anything he said. I just think he was after more money. Read Less

Crain Veterinary has been such a great caregiver for my pets. I have lived near the plaza for the past five years, and still make the long trek over to GV to get care for my cat because of the incredibly reasonable prices and the quality of care I receive from the vets and vet technicians. All of the staff has been very willing to help answer any and all of my questions. I would really urge anyone complaining about the prices here to do a little research and call around to a variety of places outside of a small suburban area for a dose of reality. Read Less

Not sure about all of these reviews, my experience with this veterinary clinic has been good. We've been taking our dogs there for about 4 years now. We have two very large dogs who do not enjoy going to the vet at all, they are a handful, my female in particular. It causes a lot of anxiety just having to take her to the vet but every time we've gone to Crain they get us back right away and the vet's do what they need to do with minimal disruption.We have boarded them here a couple of times and to our great relief have come back to find our dogs safe and about as calm as could be expected, never notice any signs of neglect or trauma. They even managed to give my female a bath and a nail trim which is a feat within itself. I appreciate their ability to handle our dogs efficiently so we can relax when we go out of town.I don't find their prices to be any more or any less than any other vet. I also feel they are genuinely nice people, from what I have seen. The negative reviews do not match my experience and I believe they deserve more credit than they are getting. Read Less

Can't leave here without spending $200 or more. Last time they told me they were the only ones that sold urinary tract food for cats, so I bought a $30 bag. Went to Wal-Mart the next day and they had 3 different brands. Also coaxed me into getting shots that my indoor cat did not need. Do not go here. I suggest Cavanaugh or Independence Animal Hospital. The guy we saw always called him Cooper and always tried to have us do an $80 blood panel each visit. One time, the we did a blood panel, he wanted another one two weeks later.My dog had lingual paralysis and, when excited, it becomes hard for him to breathe. I took Copper to get a bath at Crain's. They brought him out to me wet and he was breathing so hard his tongue was purple. They said "oh he's fine" and rusher him out of the lobby. I felt they really didn't care about my dog. Read Less

First of all; be cautious-- As far as my family's experience with Crain, we took our mixed-breed in for the basic maintenance; an ear cleaning, nail clip, shots, and teeth cleaning. Much to our surprise our energetic, healthy, busy, social, very much loved family pet was returned to us with news of heart problems, an odd infection of his urinary tract that set in within a week of taking the heart med, and TOTALLY DEAF. Totally, irreparably DEAF. No apology from the staff, no explanation other than, "Well, sometimes that happens". We are just sick. He was hearing fine when he went in, but now responds to no noise at all since the day he came home. Heart breaking, to see him become more dejected by the day... We took him to another vet, by the way, who told us there was nothing to be done about the hearing loss now, and that the dog didn't at all need the heart medication. Sick. Read Less

I feel so safe leaving my dog here.  The staff is amazing.My golden-doodle, Miles, wasn't feeling good.  I brought him in on a Saturday.  We felt like VIPs as soon as we walked in.  We had a doctor right away and he gave Miles a once-over while I explained the situation.  Immediately, there was a team of vets (2 more doctors) ready to support him.  They let me in the back to watch him get x-rays.  Then, I got to listen to them collaborate while looking at the x-rays together.  It was like an episode of "Grey's" in real-time and real-life.  Miles needed surgery.  He stayed until Monday.  We got check-in phone calls several times after the surgery.  It was a great feeling.  I just brought Miles back to get his stitches out.  These guys are top notch.  They weren't our regular vet before, but they are now.This is, hand down, the best veterinary clinic I have ever visited. My dog had an eye ulcer and Crain told me that surgery was necessary. They told me that the surgery would probably make my dog close to blind in that eye which it did indeed. They had to sew the inner eye shut and I had to put suave in his eye for 6 weeks not to mention the cone that he had to wear for 6 weeks. About a year later my dog got another ulcer in his other eye and I took him to different Vet. Much too my surprise, they told me that it could be taken care of by adding a suave to his eye for two weeks. I told them about the prior surgery that Crain insisted was needed and they told me that surgery was only needed in extreme situations as a last resort. I was furious!!! I used the suave for two weeks and the ulcer was completely gone. Crain put my dog through a lot of pain and suffering and caused him to be all but blind in one eye for absolutely nothing!!! I cant even put into words how furious I was!!! All they care about at Crain is the almighty dollar. I cant even believe they're still in business. This place is horrible!!! Read Less

Crain vets are not trustworthy at all. They put the dollar signs first and not the health or wellbeing of your pet. We took our 3 year old cat in because she was acting lethargic. The vet gave her her vaccinations, THEN starting telling us she needed her teeth cleaned, an x ray, blood work, etc. He was rapid firing all sorts of numbers at us. We paid for the xray and he tells us she has fluid around her heart. He offered to give her antibiotics by IV for $500 dollars, but said we could give them to her at home for $54. What a bozo. We took her to another vet recommended to us a couple days later when her health became worse. This vet showed us (on the xray we brought to him from Crain) the very large cancerous tumor she had in her stomach. We could even feel it. Why the Crain vet chose to not point out that our cat was terminal to us is very clear. He just wanted to milk us for as much money as he could. Do not take your animals to Crain Veterinary Center! Let me start by saying we have been using Crane for almost 20 years and been very happy with our pets care up until a couple of years ago. I took my Aussie in today for a follow up on a severe Arthritis diagnosis. To receive this diagnosis Daisy was sedated , X-ray , and had blood work done . $372 I which did include some medication. When the doctor took us back today, reading the chart, asked us how Daisy was recovering from surgery ...,,,no surgery was done. He left the office twice with no explanation and then returned to start the exam all over again. Very strange visit in which I was charged another $20 for the follow up. We are finding a new clinic. This veterinary clinic broke veterinary protocol by vaccinating a sick puppy ignoring all the label warnings on the vaccines. Then held the puppy hostage by keeping it overnight for two nights against the owners wishes. Btw. No one checks on these animals left overnight. Or on Sundays. Read Less
