I’m new to town and have only used this office once. The support staff was kind, friendly, and helpful. I saw Dr. Logan and she was simply the friendliest and most thorough vet I have ever met. My dog is very frightened of vet offices and Dr. Logan got down on the ground and soothed her and gave her treats and was just so loving to my pet. This was just a visit to introduce my pet and re-up her flea/tick meds, but I’m very happy with my first experience and booked a second appointment for vaccinations in a couple of months. Read Less

If I could choose a negative star I would. It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. In February I became the owner to a newborn female Shichon. In looking for a local vet close to my house I chose Hidden Valley. If you are looking for a new vet and reading this review, run for the hills. After visiting for the first time the facility seemed "ok." Nothing spectacular however I didn't anticipate many veterinary needs for her and didn't plan on going regularly. The facility often smelled very strongly of urine and strong oder, my best judgement aside I continued to go there. I boarded her for Memorial Day weekend and picked her up on the following Tuesday. When they brought her to me her left leg was soaked in urine, her bed had pee all down the side as well as poop on the edges. I was in a state of shock. When asking the Office Manager, Hillary, what had happened she gave me a smile and said "we are short staffed and fully booked and haven't been able to get all of the dogs taken out on time as they need." When I asked the last time she was outside her reply was "830." It was currently 4:55. My heart was now in my stomach. How do you leave a puppy in a kennel all day without contact to play or go potty? Animals rely on our care 100%. If we fail them we have failed ourselves. I have now found a new vet that will love Stella the way I love her, as all animals deserve to be treated. For now, they have lost myself as a customer and two recent Independence friend transplants. For all of the dogs that were boarded this past weekend I hope you are back home with your families to be snuggled and loved as you should. Read Less

What an amazing place and staff! I have been going to HVAH since 2002 when we first got our puppy. They have always been kind caring and very professional no matter what I asked of them. Recently my sweet dog had a stroke and had to be put down. The staff welcomed our tears and tried to ease our pain. Dr. Falk and the nurse had a lovely blanket all set out for her. They took an imprint of her paw and labeled it. They showed true caring at a very difficult time. To top it all off, 2 weeks after her death they sent a sympathy card with flower seeds to put on her grave and then they made a donation in her name to an animal charity for people that need veteranary help, but can't afford it. It just reassured me that they are the best. Our other dog is only 3 so we have many more years with the wonderful staff at HVAH. I have many 5 star stories and will never doubt this amazing staff's hearts are in the right place! Read Less

I took my GS Norman to be groomed at Hidden Valley, I dropped him off at around 8:30 am , I verified what he was having done and my contact number. At 11:34 am I called because I hadn't received a call from them yet, I thought that they closed at 12:00 per the website, they told me Norman wasn't done yet. I told her that I wanted to make sure I was there to get him before they close at twelve, she corrected me and said that they don't close until three o'clock and that they would call me when he was done. I waited, 3:00, still not call, I thought maybe they were backed up and still finishing with the dogs, no biggie, I will just head up there and wait, I tried calling while en-route, no answer, called again, still no answer, called again, got the "were closed" message. I went into panic mode, I knew that I had not missed a call from them, I had my phone with me all day and had been checking. When I pulled into the lot there were three cars, I thought, yeah they were just backed up, all is good, until I saw the CLOSED sign on the door. I jumped out of my car, knocked on the door, nothing, no one in site, I pounded on the door, I went to the clinic entrance door, pounded, went to the side door, saw a door bell, I rang and rang and rang, I could hear Norman barking, I was sick to my stomach. I circled the building again still pounding on all the doors, I went to my car and honked the horn, I knew there had to be someone still there, because of the cars. During all this I manage to get the number to the Vet, I call leave two frantic messages about the situation. I called my daughter and she suggested I call the police, I was doing all this while knocking on every door and peering in every window. Finally, I saw someone, she was just sort of standing in a hallway, I wouldn't have seen her if I hadn't been peering in the windows. I told her"you have my dog Norman, no one called me", she tried explaining through the glass that they had called me and my line had been busy, then they had called another number and got voice message, she said she couldn't open the door, that she couldn't help me. After a few moments of me pleading with her to give me my dog and swearing that I hadn't gotten a call, she came to one of the back doors and stepped outside. After a lot of insisting on both our parts of what had or had not happened, she said that she had called her manager and that there was nothing they could do and that she, the girl, couldn't take money from me because she was just the cleaning crew. I finally told her that I had left two messages with the Veterinarian and that I would wait until he called me back but that I wasn't leaving without my Norman. She agreed to call the manager back and goes back inside and about this time my daughter arrives, then the girl comes back out and says the manager will come and let me have Norman. While we waited I checked my phone again, no missed calls from anyone, I hadn't been on the phone, the girl had said the line was busy, I have call waiting, my stupid phone, I felt like hurling the piece of crap across the parking lot, I figured there must be something wrong with it. I couldn't stop blaming myself for not just coming up there to see what was going on sooner, why had I taken their word that they would call me. The manager arrives and the first thing she said was, "we close at three o'clock you know, I mean you think you would know....", I took a deep breath and thought she's right, I apologized to her for any inconvenience this had caused her got Norman and left. It turns out, there wasn't anything wrong with my phone, the other number they had tried to call was my husbands, his ringer was on mute he wasn't expecting a call, I was. There were 3 missed calls on his phone starting at 2:48 and ending at 3:15, they had tried calling but on the wrong phone number. Not sure why they didn't answer when I tried calling them, I know they were there because they were still attempting to call the wrong number. Read Less

Our experience with Hidden Valley Animal Hospital has been by far the worst experience I have ever had with an "animal care" facility. Over the past 2 weeks, we have gone through a series of events which Hidden Valley has not yet tried to make right. I will never recommend bringing your loved one here, and encourage you to keep them as far away as possible. Details of our experience are as follows:1. The first "issue" started when I called to schedule 2 nights at the kennel and a simple grooming for our yorkie, Rocky. The lady who answered the phone was extremely short and just seemed rather annoyed that she had to answer the phone to talk to me. She was hurrying to get me off the phone and I could hardly get the chance to ask to make sure Rocky had a grooming included during his stay. 2. On Friday before his stay (we dropped off on Saturday morning) I got an email to confirm Rocky's appointment for 'Monday at 7am'. I was a little confused as were supposed to be picking him up on Monday after his 2 night stay and grooming - so I emailed and asked what that was about and to confirm that he was still scheduled to come in on Saturday morning. A response email said they had to do the grooming on Monday because they were full on Saturday. I am not sure why this information was not shared when I called days in advance to schedule, or why I did not receive a phone call to make sure this was acceptable. 3. On Monday, my husband got a call that the groomer had cut Rocky while grooming but he was okay and ready for pick up. Rocky had been cut so severe during his grooming that it required a staple. My husband brought Rocky home and was given no care instructions or information.4. After a night home and realizing that Rocky wanted to keep licking where the staple was, I called Hidden Valley to ask if Rocky should have a cone on to stop the licking - the lady who answered said "of course, yes he should have one" and I responded that "that would have been nice to have known and given one". The lady on the phone offered no empathy towards the situation and only said I could come get one from them if I wanted - and to top it off, did not even say a "goodbye", instead just hanging up quickly. So that whole day, Rocky spent the day at home without any protection...when I got home last night the area looked pretty red. I called the after hours doctor number to ask what sort of medicine we could put on it, however, I left a message and never got a phone call back. Lucky for me, Google seemed to be kinder and more responsive than the staff at Hidden Valley. We cleaned the wound with hydrogen peroxide and put some triple antibiotic ointment on it while we went to get a cone (which cost almost $30 - an expense which should have been covered by Hidden Valley) and some anti-lick/liquid bandage from Petco. 5. Later that night, while getting Rocky settled for bed in his new cone, we were trying to make a large comfortable area for him using the blanket and bed we sent to the kennel with him on Saturday. While doing so, I found that there was poop smashed into the blanket and bed which I then had to throw away. I am a baffled at how they could just pack up the bed and blanket with dog poop in it and send it home, to me this shows a total lack of care being provided. While Rocky is not perfect, his accidents have been few and far between...and usually have some root cause (fireworks, etc.) and from all his time at other kennels we have never heard of him having accidents or been sent home with poop in his bed. This really worries me that he, and the other dogs, are not given adequate walk times or attention to do their business. 6. The doctor finally called me back the following morning and talked to me a bit - it seems he wrote my number down wrong. While I appreciate his offer to have Rocky in today and take a look at his leg, it is a bit difficult as we both work 30-45 minutes from our house.7. After a few days of trying to heal, we took Rocky back to the vet on Saturday (1 week from his initial drop off) to have the staple removed. It was a very quick procedure and we were told he was good to go and sent off with no further instructions or information. We brought Rocky home then went out to run errands - after we got home, it appears that the wound has reopened. It is now too late to call the vet, other than the emergency line - which they would likely just recommend we go to the emergency vet. I am just so extremely disappointed in the care that Rocky has received from the groomers, the kennel, and the vet. I hope that other dogs do not have these experiences. I have communicated my concerns via the survey I was sent as well as via email and have yet to receive a response. I am dumfounded that a business that says they support and care for animals cannot find the time or words to remedy a situation that they created, but instead turn a blind eye. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your research and think twice before using Hi Read Less

I am sure they will remove this as soon as they see it so I am posting this on every social media site and consumer group I can. I made a reservation for my dog over 30 days prior to the date he was needing to be boarded. We had been boarding him there for over 2 years with no issues and in fact my dog loved the people there. They made a change in their policy requiring confirmation of reservations after I made my reservation. I spoke to the office manager in the beginning of December and stated I would pay my outstanding balance before his next stay in December. To me this is a confirmation of the reservation but not to Hidden Valley My reservation was for December 23-January 4. I called on the 23rd to tell them I would bring him in the morning but would pay for the night I didn't use since I reserved it. They told me that since the didn't confirm the reservation after the 14th that the cancelled it. No regard to the fact we had been coming for over two years and never no showed or even cancelled. I was upset because this was going to ruin my Christmas as I would not be able to travel. Their idea of a good solution was to offer to put my dog in a cage for 12 days that he would not even be able to stand up in (I have this on audio recording). Not being able to stand up for 12 days would have led to decubitus ulcers of his skin, blood clot formation resulting in everything from stroke to organ failure to limb amputation but to them this was not a problem. Because of this I have to question their medical judgment and wouldn't trust my dog to them again. Because of their change in policy and even though I spoke to the office manager early in December and spoke about his December stay they cancelled a reservation. I have them on record changing their story saying first it was the policy change and when I brought up that they should have looked and saw that we had never no showed or cancelled they changed their story and lied and said that it wasn't the policy it was because the balance due wasn't paid by 12/14 which I never knew was a requirement as they had no problem with the statement that I would pay it before his stay meaning to me when I came in to drop him off. But again the most unbelievable aspect was that they wanted to put the dog in a cage where he wouldn't be able to stand up for 12 days which is medically stupid. I am filing on Monday for the lost travel costs since I couldn't let them basically kill my dog by putting him in a small cage.Read Less

started going to this vet as it is the closest to me when i had an emergency.  we had already been seen the day before at my regular vet's office.  i was so much happier with the information and the explanations provided.  i had to proceed to put my beloved kitty down, but the vet on call at the time was so so passionate.  i now always recall that day with the fact that he seemed to love her as much as i did, and it really comforted me that day, and the days that have followed.  not to mention, even though i called another nearby vet this same day before the visit, the receptionist here helped make up my mind which of these two unknown places i chose. she was really great.  we have continued to take our kitties there and i feel that dr. falk is the most expert veterinarian in this area of the city. i feel confident after his examinations. he is very thorough and does not make you feel rushed or silly for any questions.  all the vet assistants are super.  i think our cats do not even mind being there!  and the office cat is also awesome.  he thinks he is a person and does all the greeting and is very interested to see what is going on.   one final thing, in addition to a lack of confidence in my previous vet, they always added insult by trying to sell me something at every visit. it just made my confidence dwindle that much more.  have never had this happen at Hidden Valley. I have boarded my pets here multiple times (both cat and dogs) when we go on vacation every year. I'd say each time has been a satisfactory experience. One time my dog came back with fleas, but I understand how that could happen. This past time I boarded them, hey lost my cat's favorite toy and t-shirt that she slept with, but no big deal. This place is amazing. The staff members are professional and well-educated, and the owner, Dr. Mel Falk, is such a joy to be around. His love for his job and his animal patients is truly palpable. Plus, when it comes to solving complex medical problems for patients that don't "talk", his abilities are nothing short of amazing. An excellent clinician and doctor, in every sense of the words. Our pointer has been going there since she was tiny (she's 7 now) and she loves it there. I've never seen a dog get excited about kennels or shots before, but she does. And the staff love her right back. She's a bit of a nervous, high-strung dog, and every odd problem she's ever had (including random gastrointestinal problems and eating a tray of rat poison) has been handled calmly and with a great sense of humor. The building itself is gorgeous, too - well-designed with lots of natural light. Clean, too - you'd never know there's an animal hospital there. No smell whatsoever. Highly recommended. Read Less

We had taken our two dogs to Hidden Valley Animal Hospital for over 13 years. Unfortunately, this past August we had to have our dogs put to sleep. What was supposed to be a peaceful and loving act for our animals turned out to be horribly traumatic. Our dog's last minutes were filled with fear and pain due to the lack of care. It was so bad that the assistant in the room had to leave for the day because she was so upset by the incident.Read Less

We have nothing but love for Dr. Falk and the staff of Hidden Valley. We have been loyal to this business since 1994 when we got our first dog and will remain so.  The care our dogs have received over the years has been outstanding,  We have had end of life decisions made there and the support was tremendous. There just aren't enough great words to express our thanks. Read Less

It saddens me deeply to read the other review of Hidden Valley. My heart goes out for that gal and her problems with Hidden Valley. Rather lose that than my cat. We have had our animals groomed and vaccinated here, as well, and all of that seemed to go well. They always make the little dog look really cute. Read Less

Read Less
