Hickman Mills Animal Hospital

Kansas City, Missouri
General Info
Hickman Mills Animal Hospital in Kansas City continues to play a significant role in the lives of local pet owners. Pet owners in Kansas City note slight changes in energy levels, appetite, and posture thanks to Hickman Mills Animal Hospital. The care routines are personalized and easy enough to implement at home, which is why they are popular among Missouri pet owners. During initial consultations, clinic teams evaluate several key behavioral aspects such as rest time, food drive, toy interest, social responsiveness and body language. The team checks the range of motion of the joints, coat health, and ear sensitivity during the exam. We also check muscle tension, hydration levels, gums and eyes. Additionally, the comprehensive perspective enabled me to translate seemingly unrelated warning signs, such as reduced physical contact and hesitation on stairs, into actionable steps for long-term planning. Hickman Mills Animal Hospital offers wellness scheduling, preventive screenings, bloodwork, dental examinations, orthopedic care, and behavioral treatment plans. The effects of the environment on lifestyle, like living in an apartment, would also change product recommendations. Backyard space for pets (dogs) vs. multiple pets, or frequent travel. The team doesn’t enforce a set regime but adjusts the care rhythm to suit the pet’s temperament and attention span alongside the household’s pace. Over time, the clinic builds detailed profiles of each pet’s behavior and baseline health metrics. This enables it to make tailored recommendations according to family priorities. Each aspect, from energy levels and sound sensitivity to appetite changes, aids in crafting a care strategy that is both effective and empathetic. Hickman Mills Animal Hospital helps Kansas City families and neighboring Missouri residents establish veterinary practices that fit their daily lives and pets’ psychological needs to make each visit more effective, serene, and stable. Popular services include behavioral counseling, preventive medicine, laboratory, senior pet care, in-house pharmacy, puppy and kitten care, pain management, dermatology services, internal medicine and bloodwork. The hospital also ensures that pet owners feel confident about the care provided, thanks to open communication and high standards. The team is dedicated to continuous growth and community involvement to ensure that pets in Kansas City and the entire United States have access to quality care.

We are new to the area. I called to get some info on services. The gal that answered the phone sounded like I woke her from a nap. As I asked basic questions about which shots were required & other basic relative guidelines to my pet's impending procedure, she didn't sound like she knew much and at one point she even said "I dont know". I'm pretty sure I could've received more info if I called the hotline at the zoo. I hung up & called a couple other places. The ladies that answered thier phones walked me through pre-exam requirements, necessary shots, labs, length of stay and detailed the costs of each proceedure. Phone business accounts for over 70% of ones business. She wasnt rude, I can even deal with rude, I get it, some people have bad days, but If this clueless lady is the first point of contact for this business, how clueless is everyone else under this roof? You people tried to act sentimental and referred us to other clinics but our puppy was dying at that moment. Who are you to tell us what we did wrong with our last 1 puppy not “puppies” thats not your place to tell us that we were wrong and that we didn’t take action to vaccinate our puppy. we did not know the symptoms of parvo we rushed him to the clinic and he got all of his shots but it was to late for him. My first experience with Hickman Mills Animal Hospital occurred about the same time that Dr. Carlson joined the practice. My 10-year-old cat was starving himself because of a liver enzyme imbalance. Dr. Carlson figured out a treatment which required tolerance on the part of the cat but lots of time feeding him frequently through a tube in his nose. When I could not do it, the staff there took on his care. After about 3 1/2 weeks he started eating normally again and today is a healthy, good-looking 17-year-old. I knew from that time that I could trust the care of all of my pets to the staff at Hickman Mills Animal Hospital. I probably have more pets than the average person so I see them frequently. They are caring and attentive whether it is a routine check-up or a sad time when a pet has to be relieved of pain and suffering. I can not say enough good things about the care my cats and dogs have received at Hickman Mills Animal Hospital. Read Less

Just had a full exam and rabies shot last month. Didn't get the other shots to save a little money as I'm a teacher. And wasn't planning to board her. Then I realized I might need to board her at some point later this summer. They charged me for a full exam again. They said state board requires it. I called the board and it only says she needs to be fit to receive a vaccine. His "exam" consisted of only asking me how she is doing, a look at her teeth and feel of her legs, all of which he did just a couple weeks ago. I am certain I told him when I got her last exam that if I need to board her I'd be back for the kennel cough shot, but he didn't tell me they'd do a full exam again. I feel misled especially after talking to the state board. Trusted this vet. Not anymore. Read Less
