Truly amazing care. They actually know about Hedgehogs!!! Dr wasn't afraid to pick up my spike baby and get poked and huffed at. He did a marvelous job! She ended up needing surgery. He was very honest. He had no idea what the growth was or if it would come back. Was very impressed with the level of care he took when performing surgery and her after care. I've heard most vets would say when they don't know what it is that the hedgie should be put to sleep. Very grateful for the level of knowledge and care. Will drive as far as I have to to go here. I have a hard time trusting vets as they often don't care enough about the animals or try and just shove you out the door while asking for money. This vet I visited for my hedgehog when she wasn't feeling good and I wasn't overly impressed but the vet himself was kind and genuinely cared about her health. So when I got a new puppy I took her here and I was given a different vet since she wasn't an exotic animal and I will say I LOVE Dr.Carpenter - She's overly friendly, she LOVES dogs and every time she sees mine I can see her face light up and that just makes me happy to see someone who wants whats best for the dog taking care of her for me. Any emergency or questions I have I always call her and she always get back with me as soon as possible. I value any suggestions and recommendations she gives me and trust her fully. Thank you for being a great vet Dr. Carpenter. Read Less

This is by far the best vet clinic I've ever been to. I have several bunnies and ferrets that I take here to see Dr. Entriken. He is just absolutely wonderful with them. He is extremely attentive, and addresses all concerns calmly and carefully. I have had several emergency situations where he fit me in last minute on a busy day and got me and my fur babies taken care of in no time. When one of my bunnies passed away last year, I received a card from the doctor, which was super thoughtful and sweet. I moved out of state a year ago, and I love it here so much that I still bring the animals here for their check-ups when I come to KC to visit. Thank you, KC vet team!! Read Less

I cannot fully describe the depth of care shown to myself and my guinea pig, Herschel, when we took her in a couple of weeks ago. I woke up one morning, she was very sick, and called everywhere that treats exotics in the KC area. Kansas City Veterinary Care was the only place I could get her in that day. Even as brand new clients, they treated us like family. The veterinarian who saw us, Dr. Kirkwood, I believe, was kind, calm, and incredibly empathetic throughout the exam. We ended up losing Herschel that day, but somehow the fact that we were somewhere where everyone, even the reception staff, recognized the weight of our sorrow, and the importance that a little rodent can have, made that awful experience a bit less painful for me. I intend to continue to bring my pets here, and I highly recommend them. Read Less

I recently saw Dr. Diehl with my gecko, Jyn. I chose KC vet care for their doctor's ARAV (Association of Reptilian & Amphibian Veterinarians) membership, and I'm very happy with my choice! Dr. Diehl was knowledgeable and kind, and very patient with my jumpy baby gecko! I was never made to feel rushed, and he was patient with the human, too; very willing to explain his thoughts, offer multiple options for treatment and explain each, and clarify any concerns I had. Prices are perfectly reasonable for an exotics vet. Additionally, the desk staff were polite and maybe a little enamored by my little gecko (they wanted to see her!). All in all KC vet care seems to make it a point to go above and beyond for their clients (I was even offered a drink after my long drive), and I'll definitely be back to follow up and make sure Jyn is recovering well. :) Read Less

I've been coming to KC Vet for nearly 15 years - over 14 years with my "first born", Mavis. She passed away in October. Dr. Diehl spent close to an hour consulting me on "end of life" decisions and while painful as all get out, he truly helped me in a way that is hard to articulate. His, and others, genuine care meant the world to me. The staff always warmly greeted us and knew how crazy I was about my Mave - I always felt like they took extra, extra good care of her!!! Today as I walked into the clinic for the first time since Mavis' passing, it was mixed emotion - missing Mavis, but also so happy to know that I have these fine folks to help provide the very best care to our two new gals, Ruby and Stella Mae. I have taken my dogs to KC Vet Care for the past 20 years. Every experience I have had when taking my dogs has been above and beyond by the staff and especially with Dr. Diehl! And yesterday when I made the hard decision to euthanize my dog, Cody, the experience was no different. Even the phone call to schedule the appointment days before, I could tell in the receptionist voice that she knew this was not a decision I made lightly and kept saying "if there is anything we can do for him and you until your appointment, let us know." That one simple sentence meant the world to me in that moment because Cody is my world and knew she meant what she said. When it came to my appointment the moment I walked in, they knew Cody and myself by name and immediately put us in a room. As I was trying to prepare myself mentally to go into the room, as she opened the door, it put my mind at ease a bit. It wasn't set up like a normal vet visit. The lights were dimmed, there was bottled water, Kleenex, a bag of dog treats, and a soft nice blanket on the scale for Cody to rest on. It transformed the room into a warm and peaceful place for Cody and I to spend our last moments together. When Dr. Diehl walked in my heart dropped because I knew it was time. I was expecting him to want to get started because I figured he had other patients and was busy. However, that was not the case at all! He spent the first 20 minutes sitting on the floor with Cody and I as we talked about my dogs life, as if it was his own dog--remembering things that had happened in Cody's life, some I didn't even remember. Then the inevitable happened, he explained what would or could happen next. He gave me options on how involved I wanted to be in the last few moments with Cody. That gave me such peace knowing it was MY decision, and not a feeling like, "this is what the Dr. is going to do and I have to follow." I chose to be there until the very end. Dr. Diehl knew it would be extremely hard and kept talking me through it--reassuring me he lived a wonderful life and I was making the right decision. That was definitely something I needed to hear in that moment. But at this point I was crying my eyes out. And I usually don't like crying in front of others because it makes me feel uncomfortable, but there wasn't a single moment where Dr. Diehl made me feel uncomfortable or weird for crying. I want to thank the KC Vet Care staff and especially Dr. Diehl for all that they have done for me over the past years. Yesterday's experience confirmed for me I have made the right decision to take my dogs here. That I am not just another random customer, but that they genuinely care for my animals and want to be a part of the journey that we call their life! Read Less

My family started taking our dogs to KC Vet Care this year. After 3 visits at our old vet that provided only minimal and temporary relief, we wanted to get a second opinion for my Luna's severe allergies that had left her balding and with sores all over. We saw Dr. Exline at the recommendation of a friend. He told me early in the exam that her sores were infected and she needed antibiotics (the old vet mentioned antibiotics but didn't think they were needed, twice). She felt better within a week or two and has had very mild allergy symptoms since being on medication for it. A few months later we were worried about Luna again. She had been limping and this time saw Dr. Diehl. He removed something from between her paw pads, gave medication, and told us to watch her to make sure the issue resolved as he was not sure exactly why she had this growth (there was no obvious cause like a thorn). Dr. Diehl told us that if she did not get better, he would likely have to sedate her to make sure everything was removed that needed to be. He did not want her to be awake as it might be a more painful and invasive procedure. A week later she was still limping and her growth had retuned and was larger and black. We were able to schedule surgery for the next day. Both Dr. Diehl and the technicians made us feel very comfortable throughout this whole process with the way they explained things and genuinely seemed to want what was best for Luna. Dr. Diehl kept us very well updated on her surgery- calling with her pre-anesthetic bloodwork results before surgery and even calling during and after surgery. He was very up front about all costs. We were so thankful that her pathology report on the growth was not cancer, just a virus. She was walking normally and playing within a week of her surgery and her paw continues to look healthy! Another thing I have liked about KC vet care is how comfortable Luna seems with the staff. She is a rescue with unknown history and was very defensive at our old vet- often thrashing around and needing to be muzzled a time or two. At KC Vet Care I have never once heard her growl or seen her act aggressive in any way, she seems a lot more relaxed there which makes me feel more relaxed. I am so glad to have my old Luna back and very appreciative of all the time KCVC has given to care for her!!Read Less

Finally, I came to KC Vet Care, and every single member of the staff had Harley feeling so much more calm than I'd ever seen him, the visit was a breeze (and this included having his temp taken, vaccines injected and blood drawn). KC veterinary care is a joke. I moved from Austin with four dogs to KC. My dog aria has a seizure disorder so I wanted to get her into a vet quickly to establish care. She has been managed on her seizure meds for almost two years and has not had a seizure since staring them. I gave them copies of all of her records and anti seizure medication doses. Dr. Erdozain reassured me that he would continue to prescribe her meds and there would be no issues. He did not mention one thing about needing blood work in order to continue prescribing her meds. Additionally, I just want to add that I was also there in May for her walk in shots. That is two paid vet visits prior to me calling them this Friday. I called to ask for a refill on Arias seizure meds. Up until this point my amazing vet in Austin was still refilling them. KC vet didn't even know what meds she was taking ! I had provided these records months ago. I wonder what happened to all the records i gave them? I had to spell out the med over the phone for them along with the dosage. Additionally, they didn't want to call them in because now suddenly after being there twice they wanted to check blood work before filling them. I am so disgusted at the poor care and documentation of this plAce. As a nurse, I would expect better for humans or pets. I had to wait on hold for 20 minutes to convince someone to prescribe aria at least a months worth so she wouldn't abruptly go off her seizure meds. I plan to take Aria elsewhere where she can be cared for humanely. KC vet care, You are a shame and a scam for money. Get organized and get it together.Read Less

We lucked into this practice and I am so happy we did!! We recently moved to KC so we knew very little about the area and relied on recommendations to choose our new vet. When our 12 year old Rottweiler started feeling badly we came in for a checkup with Dr. Exline. His bedside manner was beyond amazing and was he was SO compassionate when giving the un-encouraging bloodwork results. Unfortunately the following week we had to say goodbye to our baby and Dr. Exline took the time, on a Friday no less, to come to our house and allowed us and her furry brothers to send her off surrounded by love. This man is a angel on earth and I can't say enough great things about him!! He went on to send us a sweet sympathy card and made a donation in her name to Kansas State University. Just wow!! Our other dog needed to go in for a medication refill and saw Dr. Reed for his initial visit. He was thorough and kind... Elvis, who is very skittish around people, loved him! The whole staff here is nothing short of remarkable and we will be taking our furballs here for as long as we live in KC!! Let me start off by saying this is a clean establishment in which I am sure gives great care to pets - just not the owners.  I regularly go to our family vet in Spring Hill KS, that being said go there they are AMAZING! However, when your pup gets herself into trouble and you have to go somewhere close for an emergency stitch at least they are open late.  My biggest pet peeve about this place is the fact that I had to take my dog in there 4 times for the initial visit and follow ups - and I saw the actual vet the first visit for 2 minutes.  The rest of the time I saw techs which is fine, but as a new "patient" I would like the decency of the vet to greet me and explain what is going on in a respectful way.   He showed up picked up my dog looked at her, barely said anything to me, and walked out.  Extremely rude. The techs were great , knowledgeable and friendly, just wish they had a DVM behind their name when I'm shelling out a grand for surgery. I think it is (actually, I know it is based on several visits to other vets) to explain critical procedures like that at least to talk to the owner before and after.  When picking her up, we walked back with her to get checked one more time and about four vets were in lab coats in the back.  It was like they were super elitist and could not be bothered behind those fancy doors! What's back there!   I mean, would you let your kids just be dropped off with people you don't know and be like oh yeah sure you must be a great person bc these other people are nice? No ma'am.Everywhere else I have ever been the doc comes in when something like this happens and talks to you like a human being and follows up when you leave and have to come back.  I wanted to ask them questions and I couldn't get the actual vet on the phone nor talk to one in person.  The tech went back and asked herself and came back to relay what they said.  This happened 4-5 times.... ugh anyway.  Em sure they practice great medicine and care for animals, I just felt disrespected by their practices.   Ill be driving the extra 30 minutes back to my vet who treats the whole family just like that - like a family. Carpenter. Read Less
