I was so relieved that the KC Cat Clinic was able to work in Scary Spice yesterday afternoon. She had gone from normal behavior the day before to a cat that wanted no food, was vomiting frothy liquid and simply wanted to hide. The "feel good" measures (sub-Q fluids, shot, anti-nausea meds) seemed to work. Her appetite returned and no vomiting this morning or since yesterday's visit. Hopefully the bland diet will restore GI normalcy and the blood panel will come back totally uninteresting. Thank you for being so available for Scary Spice when she needed care. Read Less

I've been taking my kitties to the KC cat clinic since the 1970's when it was the Cat and Bird clinic. A week ago I had to make that difficult decision to let my beloved Oscar pass on. After 20 years of big personality, meditative purring, unconditional love & companionship, the sweet boy could no longer stand or walk. I'd always said I wanted him to go out purring and he did just that with the compassionate care and support of Dr. Gloor who was actually on her day off. I'm very grateful. Read Less

This is a fantastic feline-only veterinary clinic. It's a calm, non-dog-filled environment. They are specialists and are really committed to making sure you get the latest information and services. I had a cat with serious health problems and Dr. Gloor was an amazing and thorough diagnostician--she walked me through all of our options, methodically ruled out other possible illnesses, developed an effective drug treatment and had realistic, caring advice every step of the way. They are great partners for a pet owner to have--from when you get a new kitten to end-of-life stages for a beloved companion. The staff is uniformly kind and empathetic, but I think what sets them apart is the very high standard of individual attention and medical care your cat can get here. Read Less

I'll begin with a positive comment about the vet techs at KC Cat Clinic. They really deserve 5 stars as they handled my dying kitty with such care. The doctor at KC Cat Clinic deserves 0 stars, and that is why I gave only 2 stars overall.  My kitty had a terminal disease, but upon an exam and bloodwork they tried to convince me to take out a $2500-$3000 dollar loan for xrays and surgery to make him "feel better".  In my moment of panic and despair they took advantage of me by charging me what they did for the initial appointment.  They almost had me convinced about taking out this loan for further care, but instead I decided to seek a second opinion.  The next veterinarian determined that my kitty's condition was fatal upon a physical exam, and confirmed this with xrays, and sampling body fluids.  He was then euthanized and put out of his misery.  The cost for the second veterinarian to examine him, do xrays, take body fluids, euthanize, and cremate him was 1/3 of the cost KC Cat Clinic Charged for the initial appointment of examination and in-house bloodwork.  I feel taken advantage of and ripped off by KC Cat Clinic when there was no hope for my cat to live. This whole scenario leads me to believe that KC Cat Clinic would prolong an animal's misery if it means more money for them. I am heartbroken over losing my kitty, I feel like I was taken advantage of in a weak moment, and I do not recommend KC Cat Clinic. Read Less

I can't even talk about the KC Cat Clinic highly enough. I had two cats that were older (14 and 15) and one ended up with cancer (Dr Sundahl bought us another year with her and was kind and honest with us about her prognosis). Recently, my 14 year old cat (the cat that is so important to me, more than anything in the world) had a seizure and wouldn't eat. It happened over Memorial Day weekend, so we took him to the vet ER (VCA Mission). The ER vet told us that there was something wrong with his brain and that he'd die soon. We spent two days of the long weekend believing this was the case. We took him to our regular vets at KC Cat Clinic after the weekend and they diagnosed him with pancreatitis and found a bunch of stuff with a physical exam that the ER doc didn't. He got a serious treatment plan, and later a feeding tube, and is doing well. There have been a couple of times where I had seen other vets (when I first moved to KC) and they  threw up their hands or told me the last option was a super expensive surgery. Dr Sundahl and Dr Gloor have had about a thousand steps to try before the crazy thing the other vets wanted to try. I have had cats all my life and they are so, so important to me. I've never had better vet care than I have with KC Cat Clinic. When my sweet girl was dying, they were so compassionate and came to our house to end her suffering, instead of doing it at her least favorite place. Truthfully, I cannot recommend anyone else in the city as highly as I do this vet. They will seriously save your baby's life. They really care about cats, not like many vets who are in it for the money. I am sitting here with my cat that should have died (according to other vets) and he is doing really well, purring and hanging out with me when (according to everyone else) he should be dead. They are so sweet with kitties, even jerks (like mine) and truly explore every option, so you know you're getting the best care. The vet techs are amazing, too. They clearly love kitties and are so sweet and loving, even when the kitty is trying to scratch their eyes out! I know this review is long, but I owe many years of my kitties' lives to Dr Sundahl and Dr Gloor, and there is no way I can thank them enough. If you want the best kitty care, go to this vet!! They are so kind and compassionate, and are clearly kitty people! Read Less

I have used the KC Cat Clinic since about 1999. Over that time, they have treated my cats with the utmost skill and concern. They are not inexpensive. To be sure, though, you are not getting cut rate care either. Drs Sundahl and Gloor are both dedicated to feline medicine, and they are amoung few Veterinarians that specialize in cats only. So, by limiting their practice by at least half of the pets available, something has to give, I suppose. I am certain that Smokey is alive today because of their thorough exams and care. A follow up call for lab results is always received the next day, along with a frank discussion of the good and the bad. I am thankful that these folks have chosen to offer feline only DVM services in this area. Also, I appreciate the late evening hours currently offered on Mon/Tues, as well as drop off services, although I have only done that once. Read Less

EDITED TO RESPOND TO OWNER COMMENT:Let's just put it this way: in his years of life moving around the country with me, my cat has probably been to nearly a dozen different vets and animal clinics - including being hospitalized once. NOT ONCE did anyone notice a "heart murmur."In addition, he recently was put under for a teeth-cleaning and had one tooth pulled. ONE.  Not the six that the Cat Clinic tried to convince us had to come out.Look - if you all have good experiences here, good for you.  A good vet is increasingly hard to find, and I encourage you to take your kittypal wherever you're most comfortable.  But I do NOT like alarmist tactics thrown into play to distress pet owners into spending more money, and that is 100% how I felt at this place.  One Yelper's Experience =/= Law, but I warn my friends off of this place and won't ever take my cat back. If you're looking for a good (calm, reasonable) vet, I recommend Sarah at Noah's Ark in Brookside. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW*********************I'm with Brenna, but I'm actually going to even go one star lower.  We were informed that our cat has a heart murmur and needs to see a cardiologist "ASAP."  It's "probably nothing," but you see, our cat is apparently on the verge of losing most of his teeth due to poor dental hygiene and has to have a teeth cleaning.  Never mind the fact that we brush his teeth (really, we do) and that he eats dry food and canned with equal gusto (normally, cats with dental distress avoid dry food).  We've been told by three previous vets that the cat has some tartar buildup, but that if we're consistent with brushing, he shouldn't need a professional cleaning. Anyway! The Cat Clinic vet disagrees! (I can't remember her name, sorry). We can't do the cleaning until we see the cardiologist, because the cat has to be put under for the cleaning, and they won't do that until they KNOW that the heart murmur really is nothing.  Get all that?  We were also given a pile of completely alarmist information on how to cope with our supposedly "Senior" cat (he's 8, entirely-indoor and is unbelievably healthy and active).  Apparently, because he's hit a certain age, our cat is Always On The Verge Of Death.  Live in a state of constant panic, you guys! This totally different response from the previous three (excellent, brilliant) vets that we've had, paired with the aggressive push to do six-month checkups (completely unnecessary and also completely financially impossible for us) means that we'll be getting a second opinion.  Honestly, I like a cautious vet, but the attitude at this place seems like cranked-to-eleven alarmism to me.  I think I'm going to keep looking for another permanent vet. We have a cat and a family vet (where my mother-in-law works), but it's quite a hike and difficult to get in on short notice. We found a very sickly stray at my husband's office and we were unable to get an appointment to get her checked out. The cat was skin an bones, covered in dirt and motor oil and looked like she was knocking on death's door. We wanted to keep the cat as long as she was savable. Having driven by countless times, I decided to call KC Cat and see if they could maybe squeeze me in. And they took a new customer with a random stray cat and made me feel like a life long customer. They thoroughly examined the poor cat and treated her with such sweetness, she "kneaded biscuits" the whole time they poke and prodded her. She had a few motor oil spots and they took care of those too. Knowing she was a stray, they gave me a bit of a discount as well. They performed just about every test you can imagine on the cat and made it easy to schedule follow-up appointments thanks to their convenient weekday hours. They even loaned me a cat crate to take her home in (she had been in an apple box). The doctor called me several times to follow-up, recommend treatments and explain test results. With their help, our new family member was nursed back to health in no time. Thanks to KC Cat Clinic, we have Clementine in our lives, and she makes us laugh everyday. My one knock: they might have been too thorough with their tests and diagnoses, but when your pets are your family members, that's what you want. Read Less

Being new to the KC area and needing a vet, I went Yelping and Googling, and this is what I came up with.  I made an appointment for my cat and took him here early one morning.  He was seen by Dr. Sundahl.  She was amazing with him and she is very knowledgeable.  This clinic is specifically for cats, so I kind of expected that it would be a bit fancy or expensive.  It was both.My cat had a more thorough exam here than he's ever had in his life.  Dr. Sundahl discovered that he has a bit of heart murmur "which is probably nothing."  However, she recommended that he have some lab work drawn and that he may possibly need to see the cat cardiologist (there are such things?).  I agreed to have the lab work, yearly rabies vaccination, and also picked up some Advantage.  My total bill was about $325!  Holy cats!Dr. Sundhal called with his lab results and wanted to see my cat again in about three months to do repeat lab work.  At that price, I simply can't afford it.  Also, the cat cardiologist she wanted him to see would be about $400.  I actually work with humans who have heart problems, and the whole time I'm thinking "What are they going to do, open heart surgery?!  It's a cat!"  Also, not an option.  I really feel that this clinic really cares and loves working with felines, but for the average Joe, it's a bit pricey.  Dr. Sundahl and her staff offered a variety of information related to the "elderly cat" including tips on how to keep him properly hydrated, changes in behavior that could indicate a health problem, and a variety of other information I had previously been unaware of.Don't get me wrong, I love my hairy little beast.  I want him to be healthy, and I'll do whatever is reasonably necessary to keep him in good shape.  I'll definitely take my cat here once or twice a year for his checkups, but anymore than that, and I'd be broke.  However, if you can afford KC Cat Clinic and you want to see a vet and staff who are more thorough and knowledgeable than other vets, this is your place. A friend of mine 10 or so years ago started using the KC Cat Clinic, loved them, and recommended them to me.  At the time, we took our cats elsewhere, and then we moved away from KC for a bit.  When we moved back, the cat clinic was very near to our house, so we definitely chose them for our kitties.I believe there are four doctors there, but I have really only worked with Dr. Sundahl and Dr. Gloor.  They are both fantastic!  Everyone who works there is so nice, patient, and truly cares about cats.  It is a very small staff, and they really take the time to get to know all of the human caregivers in addition to the cats.Now...they are very into cats and their health, hence why they focus on them.  They are very interested in weight management, elder cat care, dental health, and a number of other areas.  Sometimes there are lots of recommendations.  These are things that can really work, but that can add up to quite an expense too.  The KC Cat Clinic understands that not everyone can afford everything for their kitty.  They are very good at working with people to do the essentials, and don't get overly pushy with things.Besides veterinary services, they have a variety of diet and other foods, and a little area with a nice selection of cat toys, and products.  They also do a fair amount of promotions, and are awesome at letting you know when pet food companies are increasing their prices so that you can buy food before the price goes up!A few other things I like about them: once you are a patient, you can drop your cats off for their appointment, and pick them up later in the daythey call to follow up on how things are going, and always take the time to answer questions promptlythe overnight care is not too expensive, and is goodonce again, they are just so darn nice! I've been taking my kitties to the KC cat clinic since the 1970's when it was the Cat and Bird clinic. A week ago I had to make that difficult decision to let my beloved Oscar pass on.
