Rockhill Pet Clinic refused to do the life-saving surgery for my dog with an intestinal obstruction because I didn't have nearly $2,000 down for the procedure. They would not work with me and wouldn't help me. I'd been a client of theirs for eight months. He wasn't able to keep food or water down, and they sent us home without even any treatment. Even Banfield had at least given fluids when seen the previous day. I thankfully was able to find a kinder vet who accepted a lower down payment, charged hundreds less for the surgery, and saved his life. Read Less

I called Rockhill after going to another place and being told they didn't have the flu vaccine I needed for my dog even though I called and asked them first. I needed the vaccine immediately because I was boarding my dog that day. Rockhill was able to squeeze me in that same day and had the right vaccine I needed. We had only had our dog for 3 weeks when we switched to Rockhill, our dog is a bit older and had some blood in his urine along with some other health problems the adoption shelter barley explained to us. We have a 10 month old puppy that we care a lot about. We both work a lot and and are unable to care for Ollie much of the time. We have tried several daycare facilities in our area and we have always felt comfortable leaving him with Rockhill. We have also used there vet services and were pleased with the care and the professional manner in which they operated. They genuinely seemed to care for Ollie and his care. Our only problem with Rockhill is the hours which they operate their day care services they don't stay open as long as the other places which forces us to use other facilities. Everyone here is so genuine! I brought my cat Salem in here with a high fever and lethargic behavior and they were thorough with figuring out what was wrong, and I could tell they truly cared about figuring out the problem. Looks like I'm not the first person to have a puppy die after trying desperately to get some care from Rockhill. I took my puppy in to Rockhill yesterday because she'd been having diarrhea for at least four days, but finally lost her appetite and was throwing up clear liquid when I took her out of her kennel yesterday morning. As someone who only makes enough money to get by, I don't take my animals to the vet unless I'm sure something is wrong, and since I only got the puppy last week I thought it might be the transition to a new house/food/etc. that might have caused her loose stools. The vomiting and loss of appetite made it clear she needed attention, however, as she was all of a sudden lethargic and wanted nothing to do but sleep. I take her to Rockhill and get her examined by a nurse/doctor/etc. They take her temperature and say "okay well we don't know what's wrong with her but here's all the tests we can do to see what might be going on." They handed me a gargantuan list of tests, with none of them being more "likely" or "comprehensive," which left me with basically $700 worth of tests that were all recommended in order to find out what was wrong with her. I simply didn't have the money (I only had $150 in my bank account yesterday) and had come to their clinic after reading very positive reviews and hearing they were affordable. They recommended the Care Credit that I always hear so much about every single time I go to a vet office, but all the times I have applied for it, I've never been approved. ISN'T VETS/CREDIT/ETC. SUPPOSED TO HELP PEOPLE GET THE CARE THEY NEED WHEN THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT. NOT SLAM THEIR DOORS IN YOUR FACE? So instead of doing anything to help me, they took her temperature, gave me absolutely no information at all, and charged me $50. Guess what? Today, my puppy died because of parvo. Thanks a lot, Rockhill. You should be ashamed at your business practices. Letting someone go...no, it's not even about me, but letting a SICK and DYING ANIMAL go because you can't get your money is absolutely SHAMEFUL. I will tell everyone I know to avoid you like the plague. Any medical office that operates like this should be shut down. $50 to be told they can't do anything...disgusting. Read Less

When I adopted my puppy, she had a broken leg(from the previous owner). I called to 10 vets and no one would see her. I called Rockhill pet clinic and they saw her within 30min of me calling. They ended up taking an X-ray and recommended that I take her to another clinic for the surgery. The vet even called a couple days later to see how she was doing. I was so impressed with how friendly and helpful the entire staff was I now take my puppy and 2 cats to rockhill for everything. It's only been 6 months and everyone there knows my pets names and my puppy LOVES going to vet. This really is the best vet in KC. Read Less

I had a cat who looked like she was suffering from a stroke, so I went on a suggestion from a friend. I wish I had gone anywhere else. After multiple visits and being charged around $800.00 they never told me what was wrong with her. They kept me coming in to charge me for taking her blood pressure and kept trying to get me to pay for even more expensive test. I felt like I was dealing with used car salesmen. Six weeks later with her taking a turn for the worse, I decided to let her go. But, they even screwed that up. I told them I wanted to stay in the room for her to be sedated, but not for when they actually euthanized her. Well they left me and her in the room for a long time and then came in and told me they had an emergency and we would have to wait. I was distressed and let them know I wanted her to be taken care of. What they did next is what I'm really still upset about. The vet came in and without a word euthanized her right in front of me and quickly left without a word. I feel these people are highly unethical and will do and say anything for a buck. They have always been kind, personable, caring, and really an extension of our family when it comes to loving our dogs. In fact, when we moved 30-minutes away to Lee's Summit, we didn't think twice about changing vets. We are switching clinics.  A few weeks ago, our dogs tongue was bleeding and so we took him to the vet. The vet looked at the dog for 30 seconds and then suggested surgery. After leaving, the nurse came in and assumed I had already said yes.  My opinion was NEVER consulted or asked. There was never a discussion. I declined the surgery wanting to wait until Monday to see if it would heal itself.  I was then PRESSURED by the vet to reconsider.  Our dogs tongue stopped bleeding 4 hours later.  Surgery is a last resort to me in general. It seems quite odd that it was recommended for something that healed itself several hours later.Additionally, this is a continuing trend with this clinic.  We are always recommend various 'optional' preventative care procedures each time we visited.  They always assume we will do them and you have to ask them NOT to do them.I don't like being 'upsold' while taking my dog to the vet. Rockhill Pet Clinic and the staff that work there is amazing. They offer a great grooming service and have wonderful customer service. When my 8 yr old pooch was in so much pain from receiving vaccinations, they made sure to get me some medication to help her - plus, it was honey-flavored so that dogs will love it. Since they were closing, they left the medication in a bag so that I could get it even after they closed. And even better.... They did it for free. The vets and assistants are the most loving people and truly care about the animals and people that visit. Read Less

I brought a friend's older animal that was on death's door, and these guys were quick to the rescue. The super friendly staff yielded a diagnosis and plan of treatment within 20 minutes and immediately got to work. It appeared that this lively practice is full service, with grooming and boarding in addition to the usual needles and scalpels. It was a high traffic venue for sure, with an almost comically blended clientele of hipsters, old ladies, and the guy you went to high school with that you're pretty sure wasn't wearing his football helmet when he should have been. Most importantly, the staff seemed to be genuinely involved with the animals.  One downside is that they don't have 24-Hour Emergency Care, which in some circumstances may require you to transport your groggy pet to another animal hospital for overnight monitoring. (But having been to one of those places I'd make the extra trip to have surgical services performed here). Read Less

Dr. Stewart at Rockhill Pet Clinic has taken such wonderful care of our pets for so many years. My parents always took our pets to her and now I bring my own pets, and my parents continue to bring theirs.  There is a review below that states that they push too many tests.  I  can tell you that we have never been pressured or guilt tripped into any test (and money has always been an issue for us).  Like the response to the review states, their care is comprehensive and therefore may be more thorough than other places you've been to.  If you feel something is unnecessary, you may simply opt out.  Rockhill Pet goes above and beyond.  We had a particularly heart-breaking euthanasia a few years back and they not only were wonderful and supportive, but they even sent us a rose and a sympathy card signed by the whole staff with memories of our dog. Who does that?! :)    To me, the most important thing is the compassion and genuine care for your pets that the staff gives.  You can see it in the way they look at and touch your animals, and it is proven in the way the animals react to the staff.  I have one cat that will not let anyone touch her except me and when I brought her last month she let Debbie  hold her and was purring away.  Our last dog used to get so excited if you told her she was going to the vet. We got our dog from the shelter and she was very sick. They nursed her back to health and even gave us a break on the cost because we had to go in so much. The staff here is great. Removed all my pets records and business from this clinic recently. My experience has been that the owning/operating vet conducts/suggests too many unnecessary and expensive tests unrelated to pet's condition. Office staff is very friendly and helpful, but I have lost confidence in the vet. I have also heard of other poor experiences from friends who have used this clinic in the past. When my grand-cat became ill there was no one else we even considered for her care. The clinic team was there when she had her first checkup and shots. They were happy for us in acquiring a new kitten and they treated her as a new member of the clinic family. Then when a critical situation arose and we were anxious, again they were there with the appropriate concern and medical information.
