My older dog tends to be shy and scared of vet clinic surroundings. He doesn't act that way at this clinic! The staff here are so friendly and gentle towards him that he actually tries to come out of his shell to say hello and maybe get a treat. The veterinarians spend time with you and your animal during your appointment. So you don't feel like they are just trying to get you out of the room for the next patient. I've had two surgeries done here, a spay and a tumor removal. Of course the surgeries were scary, but they called me and explained exactly how the surgery went and gave me the chance to ask questions. They even sent me a text image of my older dog when he woke up from his surgery! It really makes me feel like my pups were in good hands. When tests results come in, they called to talk to me about treatments and options. Over all, I can't recommend this vet clinic enough. My dogs feel safer here. I feel like my dogs are safe here. The staff is friendly, gentle, and patient. I'm very thankful that they are here! Read Less

I wanted to love this place.  It's clean & my Mother In Law has received IMPECCABLE service with Dr. Eyler who has successfully managed Sadie's tricky condition, and boards in the medically supervised boarding area.  However, we've given them several chances to make things right after we've directly expressed our disappointment and concerns.  Each time they've apologized and assured us things would change.  Nope.  The first vet seemed overwhelmed with Knight, didn't seem to like our dog and after checking his eye issue, and that follow up, we decided to try a different vet as the chemistry clearly wasn't mixing. I called and made the request for Dr. Eyler.  The front desk person assured me that would be no problem. I trusted that change had been made. We've had to travel a fair bit this summer.  Boarding isn't our first choice & we hesitated as the first boarding experience they did not monitor his eye, despite our authorization... but we booked again to make his annual exam/vaccines, etc easier.   I tried to make an appointment for the annual the day we picked up our dog, and was happy to hear the front desk touted many folks deliberately don't schedule their dog's exams if they are boarding as it's easy for the Vet to do an exam during the stay, thus sparing dog parents a separate appointment. They'll even bathe the dog for free if they are staying a certain number of nights. Super! When we dropped off our dog, we were asked if we'd like photos (every other day) and we said, yes please!  So NONE of what was promised happened. -After 4 days, no photos.  I called to check on our dog and ask why we hadn't received photos; I was told that the box to send photos wasn't checked.  They apologized profusely and promised photos that day.  -I asked about the wellness check & heartworm test and was told that "oh the techs said you'd have to bring him back as the (original) vet would need help managing our dog during the exam."  WHAT?  #1- I had requested to transfer him to Dr. Eyler.  That clearly hadn't happened. And 2- Why had no one informed us of that change?  I politely explained that we had arranged a transfer, and that we had been told he would be examined and given vaccines.  They apologized, and promised he would be taken care of before pickup. So we pick up our dog.  -Yes, he finally got examined, but not by our requested Vet. Dr. Stelzer did examine him and give him vaccines.  Thank goodness. And I felt better that things would improve.  -I was dismayed to hear that he actually didn't get the promised complimentary bath because the weekend techs couldn't bathe him. ??? But we could bring him in later in the week. Um...Whatever. A couple days later I notice a weird lump and called the Vet to let them know.  It had gotten missed during his exam.  We had to leave town again, so instead of boarding him at Pete & Mac's where he would get play time, we booked him at Lakewood only to get examined.  I specifically explained that Dr. Stelzer had just done his annual and would she please look at this lump?  They assured me yes. We set up a pick up time later in the day so that he would have time to dry after his promised bath that Monday. -Again... 3 days into the trip, no photos of our dog.  -But more distressing was no call to update us on his lump. So I called, and was told that I would have to bring him in on a separate appointment.  WHAT???? WHY? I had to explain AGAIN that we had only boarded him there to be seen while we were gone.  They scrambled and apologized again.   Dr. Stelzer called me shortly after, also apologized and said she examined the area. We spoke about the medicine and options, and she was thorough in that phone call, which we appreciated. We finally received photos with lots of apologies again.  We pick him up.  -Guess what?  AGAIN no bath despite being promised and scheduling for it. -But more distressing, the techs tried to send my husband home without the oral medication and ointment.  Between 3 people (one bringing our dog out, one bringing his food and regular medicine) and another, NO ONE seemed to know that our dog actually needed new medications.  My husband had to INSIST that he was prescribed new meds.  One tech said, yes it's there (referring to his regular glucosamine/zyrteck) and another said they didn't know anything about ointment. Shocking. WOW.  This place needs to get their communication together.  Things are clearly not being communicated between front staff, vet and tech staff, and customers.  Breakdown galore, DESPITE us clearly explaining our needs.  SO many mistakes, it leaves me wondering if our dog had actually been taken care of properly, had he been neglected or even received the right medications if the staff "wasn't aware he needed medication." We adopted a shelter dog and two days later encountered significant health problems. We called and they were able to get us in right away. The facility is well-kept, staff are very friendly, and the vet staff are thorough and provide a solid treatment plan for your furry friend. My only comment is that this facility is VERY pricey in comparison to even other vets that we had when we lived in southern Johnson County, but my guess is that it is due to them being AAHA accredited. The visit WILL cost you a pretty penny, but it is also worth it. Read Less

I boarded my young cat for ten days. The staff were wonderful with her. They called to let me know how she was doing. They let me take her toys in with her so she would have familiar toys to play with. The kennel attendant asked questions about her habits and brought out her type of scratching post for her to use. When I went in to pick her up I almost didn't recognize her! She looked great. Calm and quietly sleeping in the window. She looked like she put on a little weight,... which was good cause she's a "nervy" cat, and she had obviously been brushed every day. If she's not brushed often she gets horrible snarls in her fur. I was very pleased with how my girl appeared and that she had settled down and accepted that she was being boarded and away from her people off the first time in her life. I believe that the staff did much to help her adjust and give her the time and attention she needed or wanted. Dr. Dwyer has been my vet since forever with about five different cats over many many years and she has always been helpful and good to our cats. She's one of the reasons I took a chance on boarding for the first time. I will definitely board my cat with them again with no qualms about her treatment and/or the care she gets. Thank you all!!! 7 years ago my little Stella, a chorkie, was born. She found her forever home with me at 9wks old. At 10 wks old and only 2 lbs, she became extremely sick. We rushed her to a 24hr emergency vet who then gave me heartbreaking news. Stella was diagnosed with the parvovirus and I was told she had very minimal chances to live. They referred me to Lakewood Animal Health Center. As soon as they opened, we brought Stella in. Dr. Kathy Moore took my baby in. Stella fought hard! At times her heart nearly stopped. Dr. Moore never gave up on her for... wow I believe it was 2 WEEKS! I was preparing myself for the worst. I really didn't think I'd ever have her back. I will never forget the day that she called me telling me Stella had made a complete turn around! She nicknamed Stella "Tiger" because she was feisty and playful! When I picked her up, she had a Tigger bandana on and healthier than I had ever seen! Today is her 7th birthday. I still call her my little miracle pup! If I hadn't moved so far from this location I would return there in a heartbeat! But I thank God every day for Dr. Moore and the wonderful people at Lakewood Animal Health for getting my little Tiger back home! She's now a big sister to a little Doxie and more energetic than ever! thank you from the bottom of my heart!Read Less

I am beyond impressed with Lakewood Animal Health Center and especially Dr. Dyer. I have struggled to find a vet with the knowledge as well as the medical equipment necessary to care for my pup. I have a 10 month old shih tzu that has had numerous problems since we got her. Finding a vet that was able to spay her while giving her the best chance of survival was a difficult process due to her heart condition. Dr. Dyer was able to spay her successfully and went above and beyond to give our sweet girl the best care possible. When Lola started to go downhill after surgery, at no fault of Dr. Dyer, Dr. Dyer made Lola her first priority. Lola had to stay overnight and Dr. Dyer went back up to the office at 8.30pm and again at 11:00 pm just to check in on her and continue to give her the best care possible. Everyone I have encountered at this office is amazing. I cannot thank them enough for their love and compassion.Read Less

On the phone, Donna was patient with my blubbering, and Dr G went above and beyond to comfort and assure us. Devastating circumstances for our first visit, but ultimate care and service that will bring us back in the future under better conditions. Read Less

I am so grateful for their service. They have taken such good care of my pets. It seems to be a labor of love for them, as they do not charge outrageous fees for their services. Nor do they try to push unnecessary tests or treatment in order to make a buck. They simply provide awesome care, at an unbelievably low rate, with much kindness and sincerity.
