This is our regular veterinarian. They are fast, thorough and compassionate. When we have an urgent need for a visit, they will always work us in. We had an emergency and they didn't have a vet on site for the day yet, so they quickly recommended an emergency hospital for us to go to. I cannot say enough praise about the staff and Dr. Hatching. The are knowledgeable and will explain options in detail and help you understand. They do not force a decision upon you but they will help you make an informed decision and not a snap decision. My cat was 17 years old under their care and that in itself says a lot. We had him since he was 3 months old. Do not hesitate with your pets health and reach out to them. Even if it's nothing, that's great news, money well spent, and sets your mind at ease. I've been taking our pets to North Main Animal Hospital for years. I love their staff and the veterinarians there, especially Dr. Schulte, who always examines our pets top to bottom to be sure nothing is being overlooked. They're top priority is the animals. As a pet stylist of 17 yrs and a dog rescuer, who has seen many vets throughout the years, I appreciate attention to detail. Over the years I've seen pets whose owners claimed they were just at the vets, come into the grooming shop with ear infections, fleas and other problems I've felt should have been easily spotted at the vets office. When I tell my clients you should schedule an appointment with your vet and they say they were there just there, I appreciate my vet even more because they don't charge an office visit fee without also personally examining the pet they're seeing and insuring the client at least knows when there is a problem. This has become common anymore at other vet clinics who seem to expect that the client point out or already know what to look for that might be causing their pet discomfort. I travel 40 minutes to O'fallon from Florissant just for this reason. Because I know and trust that our pets will receive the very best care at North Main and there will be no wasted trips. Dr. Schulte is highly knowledgeable, caring & compassionate w/both his animal & human patients & his genuine commitment is reflected within his staff as well. We are very fortunate to have him as our Vet & our friend. He is generous with his time & supports research into pet health issues with donations to his Alma Mater, Mizzou. He speaks to us, not over & above us & no question or concern is too great or small. He has referred us to other professionals for advanced specialized care when needed & shared our joys & sorrows. I used to love this vet. Very unhappy with the help I received with my 14 yr old dying dog this week. Took her in because she was acting funny and upon arrival she was dripping blood from her hind end, they did xrays but did not look in her file to remember she's arthritic and the way they positioned her to get the xray was excruciatingly painful for her, and they brought her back into the room SCREAMING in pain. She screamed for about 30 seconds then retreated to the corner where she cried with her head shoved in the corner as tightly as she could get it until they came in to muzzle her to get a second xray. She was not the same dog after that. She walked in the doc's office but did not walk out, and never walked again. Xrays showed tumor in her bladder, but they recommended bloodwork and sending her home with a sedation shot for the pain and 4 different prescriptions, saying she might improve, to wait for the bloodwork and we'll know in 24 hours what to do. By the time we got home she was pretty much catatonic and could not take even a trickle of water into her mouth that we poured, much less swallow a PILL. I don't know why they didn't give liquid meds. She was not sedated either, every 30-45 min she would shoot up, start screaming, and slamming herself to the ground in a circle over and over again. Rubbing her back vigorously seemed to be the only relief for her. We called the vet back to ask for euthanization but they said it was too close to closing time (we called an hour before they closed!?!) and still recommended to wait for the bloodwork to come back. So I stayed up with my dog in pain all night and we called first thing only to find what we already knew, her kidneys were shutting down. THEN they could not get us in to give our dog relief until the next day, or they could "squeeze us in on her lunch break or between appointments that morning". No, we can't be "squeezed in". The Emergency Animal clinic off Veterans Memorial Parkway in O'Fallon took us in immediately and they were so kind and compassionate, and helped us relieve our beloved dog from her pain as soon as possible. We should have gone there in the first place. Never going to North Main again. :( Read Less

Love this place! The staff and doctors are very nice and knowledgeable. I was referred to North Main Animal Hospital a few years ago by some co-workers when I was having trouble with my cat who is now 17. They were extremely helpful and got to the bottom of her problem. I referred my Mom and Dad here for their new kitten and my mom just fell in love with this place. My Grandma will also be moving her pet care needs for her dog to North Main Animal Hospital as well. I've brought my two dogs there multipul times and every experience has been outstanding. I had to bring my dog in because she got in a fight with my other dog and we were concerned because she has a puncture near her eye. The staff was very quick in examining her and making sure everything checked out fine. They are very friendly have have reasonable prices.
