I first came to Spragg after a friend referred me when my cat, Skippy, needed tested for feline leukemia and her first round of vaccinations. It was one place that didn't require a complete exam fee to do the two things I needed done, and I was on a very tight budget. The dr who answered the phone was definitely rude and not too thrilled that I was making an appointment. And any questions I asked he seemed irritated by. I brushed this off trying to remind myself everyone has bad days. I brought Skippy back last week (about a year later) for her updated vaccinations, and because her breathing was pretty labored. He put her off until my other cat was vaccinated. He gave her a quick listen and said "yeah she's a little wheezy" and diagnosed with bordetella. Even though she's strictly indoor and my other animals aren't ill. He gave her some antibiotics and said she should be ok in a week or two and bring her back for her vaccinations then. 3 days later she was only getting worse so I took her to the vet on sunshine and they immediately did a chest X-ray. This showed the pleura space around her lungs was full of fluid and a mass pushing on her trachea. They drained her lungs and referred me to the college of vet medicine in Columbia. After an additional trip to the emergency vet and a trip to MU, Skippys feline leukemia is actually positive, and she has lymphoma. We're currently at home on palliative care. Spragg certainly did not care enough about Skippy to make sure his diagnosis was accurate. I will never go back there again and I certainly would not recommend if you actually care about your animals. Read Less

I have moved around on vets due to the inadequacies of the vet or their ridiculous office politics.  During this time I have always kept my horse vet the same, Spragg.  My husband suggested we use them for all of our 17 animals instead of trying to find another small animal vet.  Don't know why we didn't do this sooner.  They are VERY reasonable and have a no nonsense approach to vet care.  Even the older grumpy Spragg who answers the phone has grown on me.  There are no vet techs they just get it done and it the end, that is what you want.  More times than not I just drop off before work and pick up later because I know I won't leave with a bunch of questions like I did at the other vets and if it turns out I was just fretting over nothing they will certainly tell me so without running a bunch of expensive tests first. They tell you how it is and do what needs to be done even if it's not what you want to hear. Sometimes not sugar coating things is best. With as many years this place has been around they have seen it all. Read Less

Took my cat in to be spayed and 2 days later she was so ill she wouldn't even get up to eat, drink or use the cat box. Took her back in and was told she had an allergic reaction to the sutures. Spragg gave her antibiotics and kept her overnight. Now a few days later her stomach is very swollen and she is acting very I'll. I took her to a different vet and xrays are showing her intestines and possibly spleen are coming thru the sutures in her abdominal wall. She's getting surgery again in the morning and may not make it. I have now spent over $400.00 and couldn't be more disappointed in this vet. He comes across as gruff and annoyed with your very presence. They also really need to clean the exam room. It was filthy with bloody instruments in a sink and dirt and animal hair all over.
