We had to take our 14 year old dog into the the Emergency Clinic two evenings ago, because it was 730pm and our regular vet was closed. The staff was nice when we arrived, even taking a gurney out to our car to get her. We were immediately taken to a room, where we were told, from the very first, how much the initial exam would be. $78 was not a bad price, but then we were told they would take our dog to the back for the exam by their vet and then the vet would come talk to us about the services they recommend and the cost of each service. We were told we could refuse or accept any service. The vet came back in and explained that our dog was trying to pass away right then, but we could try surgery to save her. She had a tumor on her spleen that had ruptured, and she was bleeding internally. We had no indication there was anything even wrong until that evening. The vet explained our options thoroughly, with one of the options being euthanasia. I asked for time to decide what we wanted to do, which was to euthanize her. After we notified the staff of our decision, they told us she would be returned to us shortly, as soon as they inserted a catheter in her leg. We had asked if we could go back in the back with her, but we were told that there were other animals in the back, and for our own safety they would not allow that. We waited over an hour and had to ask several times when she would be returned to us, so we could spend time with her before letting her go. They finally returned her to us after waiting an hour, and we were able to spend as much time as we wanted with her before having to do one of the THE most difficult things in life. When we were ready, the vet came in, gave her the shot and left. We were able to spend as much time afterwards with our dog as we wanted. During the hour we were waiting, the front office staff had us pay our charges, so that when everything was done, and we were ready, we could just leave. Overall, our experience with the clinic was good. My whole family was in shock that our 14 year old baby was so sick. I think what could have been improved was our wait time to get her back, and also when they first told us about the charges, I felt as if I was at a car repair shop. I understand they have to collect their money, but the charges of everything should not be the focus of the visit. Once we made the decision to euthanize our sweet girl, she should have been returned to us immediately. She had to be just as scared and traumatized as my family, and she was alone in the back without her people. I would rather have taken care of her with our regular vet, but she was in such bad condition, she most likely would not have lived until the next morning. Read Less
