If it were possible to give them no stars at all I would. One of my puppies got parvo and was diagnosed at an emergency clinic. I kept my second puppy separated but the vet told me he was probably already infected. I needed a second prescription of antibiotics now. So I called their clinic and the receptionist hung up on me. I called back mad as hell because parvo needs treatment right away. The manager Jason answered the phone and said “no wonder why they hung up on you.” At this point I’m very upset. I called again to speak with the vet and they just kept passing me to a manager who is not a vet and he refused to allow me to talk to them. I take me infected puppy that needs treated into their pet hospital. The manager Jason told me he refused to allow my dog to be treated there because he didn’t like my attitude. As I’m standing here arguing that I just need my 13 week old puppy seen by a vet my dog is walking around their lobby having bloody diarrhea and vomiting and no one is getting up to clean it and they continued to let people walk in with the mess from a parvo infected puppy everywhere. They denied allowing me to even talk to the vet and they called the cops to ask me to leave. I left once I spoke with the police peacefully. The employees and manager at this pet hospital are absolutely horrible people wouldn’t recommend even if my life depended on it. Read Less

Wish I could give them a minus score. This clinic is the most uncompassionate animal hospital I have had the unfortunate experience to visit. After a long difficult realization that my elder dog had reached the time to cross rainbow bridge I unfortunately chose this place. They could have not cared any less about the grief I or discomfort my dog was going thru. I was made to wait in the lobby for 20 mins after being told I was a work in when I called 2 days earlier and made and appointment. Then I was made to do a quality of life Q and A for the vet tech and she never even looked at it. She then told the vet I had questions when I did not. The vet was more worried about me signing paperwork that talking to me about my dog or asking me how I wanted to handle my dogs remains. The vet had an "I can't be bothered" attitude. We were in a closet sized exam room and they did nothing to help accommodate the size of my large dog so that I could sit with him. After they were quick to ask for money and did not even tell me when I would receive my dogs ashes back. I had to ask as she was going out the door. No one showed any sympathy or compassion. I was not a regular customer but that should not have mattered. Giving my dog a compassionate and dignified euthanasia should have mattered to them. After all that is the business they are in. I have had to put down other animals in my long life and have never experienced anything so awful as this clinic. Read Less

RIP Molly, may you be free from pain, and enjoy life in doggy heaven. To those that use Grant Ave Pet Hospital. I urge caution, we have used them for years, and we had taken her there to be checked on 3 separate occasions, and after spending hundreds on meds and blood work that did absolutely nothing we went to another vet. She took one look at Molly and said it was one of two things and an xray was needed, and it wasn't good. 2 x rays later and they knew she had the most painful form of bone cancer she could get. The cancer/tumor had eaten away the bones in her shoulder. They recommended putting her down as she was in so much pain. Read Less

Went in for yearly shots for my cat....bad experience all around! Tech took cat back for feline leukemia test, told her carrier handle not sturdy, ignored me totally. Bumped carrier, with cat against door on way out! Brought cat back in, roughly slid cat in carrier onto exam table, left with "it will be about 10 minutes" . The bad customer service started at the front and continued throughout my visit. Plus EXTREMELY overpriced service! $164 later (keep in mind I only wanted basic yearly shots, for my healthy cat ) ... I get home and no rabies tag! I called and was told I would need to go back and get the tag! The facility's leave a lot to be desired. My dogs seemed very uncomfortable there which is very uncharacteristic of them since they visit many businesses with me. The vet who looked at my dog couldn't answer many of the questions I asked. The few he could answer were very very vague and had no explanations if i questioned his opinion. His concern that my 10 week GSD pup had not lost any "puppy" teeth absolutely infuriated me. I can deal with sub-par facilities but not incompetence. I took a chance with this clinic because it was closer to home and was told they were suppose to be knowledgeable of the German shepherd breed. I got a same day appointment when I called to schedule. That should have been a red flag!!! But I only needed vaccines so I was not concerned. I was very wrong! I now happily drive across town to Bradford park who typically have a 3 week wait for appointments but have made time for me when I stop by for something I need done. Read Less

My family started using Grant Avenue Pet Hospital years ago. They did a good job in the past, but they don't seem to care about the customers anymore. My girlfriend and I took our dogs there and was told to give one of them three different medicines to help with a couple conditions she developed. On our return visit for a check up, the same vet asked me why we gave her those medicines, because they were not the right ones for those conditions and she didn't have the conditions he diagnosed her with. He then proceeded to diagnose her with something different and prescribe new medicines. Of course, all of which we had to purchase from them. Meanwhile, we were out over $150 for the medicines alone, thanks to Dr. Rund. When I tried to speak with someone at the front desk, they offered no solution or interest in our situation. They where, however, interested in being paid for that visit. So, I paid for the first visit and got an incorrect diagnosis. I paid over $150 for the medicines he told me I needed. I also paid for the check up visit, even though I was told the first diagnosis was wrong. What I didn't get was an apology, a refund or sympathy for my pet who had to endure all of this.I had a couple other prior visits which weren't nearly as bad, but I was still upset with the service. The only reason I would go to Grant Avenue Pet Hospital is if my pet is dying and needs to be euthanized. I was very disappointed in Grant Avenue Pet Hospital with my visit today. I had taken my cat in for a claw trim during a busy time (dog with a broken foot and a dog with a seizure). I was told they do not take appointments for trimmings. I decided to wait as it's already near impossible to get my cat out of the house before he gets really nervous and has a mini panic attack. A vet tech came into the waiting room, looked at my cat and I, and said, "Trim?" I nodded and this tech came over and picked up my cat's carrier and began walking away. I followed and was told I could not go back with him due to the surgeries. This upset me for a few reasons. 1. This vet tech had not even introduced herself to myself or my cat. 2. I was not given the option to wait longer for a room that I could observe in. 3. The tech came back before I even finished paying my bill. Although I appreciate the quick visit, there is no way my cat was treated with caring and loving hands in that short amount of time. I would have rather waited 3 hours to get a room that I would be able to observe in over my cat being marched off to some back room that I was not allowed in and be out in an extremely short amount of time. I looked at my cat's claws after the visit and saw one nail was hanging halfway off (not fully cut). If you had asked me my opinion on this vet 4 hours ago, I would have said my cat and I had finally found our Springfield vet, however, after being treated as an inconvenience to the staff, I will be taking my cat elsewhere, even if it means driving 3 and a half hours to our home vet in Saint Louis. Read Less

Grant Ave. is my “go-to” Vet! We have 4 dogs, a cat, and used to foster for a rescue; so I’ve literally been to almost every Vet in the Springfield Metro area.

And, when i asked about the booster for feline leukemia shot, I was told it didnt need an appt, but there was an additional charge... Of around $20 something!! Wow! Really!!!! Read Less

I have been bringing my pets to Grant Avenue for a little over 20 years now. Here is one of the reasons: I called this morning because I have an extremely sick stray kitten that showed up at my door. They managed to get her in at the end of the day. She was examined and treated like she was their own pet, and then the vet techs and Veterinarian thanked ME for caring for a stray! I will never take a pet OR a rescue anywhere else. Thanks again to the amazing women who saved this baby's life today - you help retun my faith in humanity with every visit! Read Less

Scheduling was off - had to take a day off work for them to tell me they scheduled me for the day after - then they made an appointment for a neuter at 2:00 when I should have been there at 7:30 and after rescheduling again and paying about $700 and not receiving all the medicine etc they had charged me for flea medicine for both dogs and forgot to give them to me I had to call them for them to even realize they didn't put it in the bag and had to drive all the way back across town to re set all the dates over again and when I came in at the rescheduled date was told they forgot to charge for booster shots which by the way told by them that it was mandatory the day of the very first visit and I told them yes please schedule me for that but they did not - so at the end after 4 confusions my dog did not get boosters nor get neutered - and I have to wait a wk or so for a refund of the money I had already paid ahead of time with the acknowledgement that everything was included- now having to make new appointments for two dogs who weight anywhere from 40-55lbs last minute while waiting for a refund is ridiculous - while management was very friendly adding additional $120 to a $700 bill that was already paid on the day of appointment is just very unprofessional and inconvenient --- it was very disappointing because I had thought I found a vet my pets would be at for a very long time -Read Less
