My husband and I went to Millwood Animal Hospital for years for our dogs.
We had so many horrible experiences, it's difficult to pick a few to explain why we would never take another pet here.
If you've been to Millwood and had a great experience, it's probably because of staff members that are long gone by now.
We put one of our four dogs through complete torture for months following all of Dr. Smith's advice. Our dog suffered through a painful eye ulcer for months and even had a surgery with Dr. Smith recommending to stitch our dog's eye closed for a week. It became infected and left him with scar tissue that bothers his eye. Only after a second opinion did we find out his eye could be healed by a $17 serum made from his own blood. Once we did this, the eye healed in 3 days. We spent over $1500 over several months on our dogs eye and his ears. Our new vet cured his ears in a week, with no reoccurrence.
Dr. Smith also blamed food allergies for the eye and ear problems and convinced us to get him tested. Our new Vet tells us these tests are just a way to make money and are not valid. Since she fixed our dog's eye and ears without him changing his dog food, we now agree it was a waste of time and money.
Beyond that, if that isn't enough, our dog was put on an expensive heart medication for several years. He was on the highest dose. The new Vet would not give him this medication without checking the heart herself, at which point we found his heart was perfectly normal (enlarged hearts do not heal) and he did not need any medication.
Switching Vet offices, we now know we spent well over $5,000. on tests, surgeries and medications we did not need on just this one dog.
We left Millwood Animal Hospital over a year ago, so I can attest that all the issues we had with our dog have not reoccurred since changing to a new Vet.

We love Millwood!

They quoted us $27/night for boarding my dog. I was excited and asked if that was for not neutered, as other businesses I called were quoting me around $50/ night. They never told me any different. W...
They quoted us $27/night for boarding my dog. I was excited and asked if that was for not neutered, as other businesses I called were quoting me around $50/ night. They never told me any different. When dropping him off the care giver says 'oh! your dog is not neutered' to which I replied 'No, is this a problem?' She said no and nothing else was said. The employee was very friendly and took us on a tour. My daughter and I completed the tour and went on vacation. When I picke...d my dog up Sunday, a week later I noticed my bill was double the originally quoted price. I asked why I was charged more. At that point The employee explained that it is $55/night. I told her I was never told that price and she very politely apologized but unable to do much. After two weeks of calling and leaving multiple messages for the owner to please contact me and being told the owner was out of office but should be back the next day, the owner finally returns my call and says basically I was told multiple times of the cost difference and that no money will be refunded and offered to wash my dog for compensation. Appointments run on time. And, we've always been able to schedule a timely appointment whether for a routine checkup or a more urgent matter.

Millwood Animal Hospital is all we could ever want in a Vet office. My favorite parts about Millwood Animal Hospital is that they are also the Equine Clinic. Throughout the past years I have visited four vets in this area and DVM. Rick Smith is the best around. He is very knowledgeable and is willing to explain it to you, unlike other vets. I will never go anywhere else to take my horse, two dogs, and cat. I love these guys to much!!!

Just wanted to say thank you for the care our dog has received while we were on vacation. First it was a trip to Texas, then the cross country trail ride at Eminence MO. Both times we were running late and were able to call for the pickup times. The manager and employees put your pet's care and well being as their number one priority. The pet yard is the only one i know of that lets the pets run and play off the leash , and make new friends. Dr Smith is my veterinarian when I travel to south Missouri with my horses. I have known Dr and Mrs Smith for over 20 years and you will not find more caring people, thay are just like family.

I have been boarding my dog for years when I traveled, but I have never been as pleased with any other facility. The staff at Milwood Pet Ranch is super friendly, Dr Smith is a terrific veterinarian, and the facility itself is ideal. Not only are the suites roomy, but the dogs are able to play and interact with other dogs. It is definitely my dog Chloe's home away from home because she is loved there too. I myself have returned over a weekend when the clinic was closed, but unlike other places, I wasn't forced to wait until Monday to pick Chloe up. They have convenient pick up times which they gladly share if they are aware you will be returning over a weekend. I simply couldn't be more pleased. I love this place, and so does Chloe!

In the middle of moving we boarded our dogs with Millwood Pet Ranch. We had used them many times in the past and had a positive experience. So we dropped our dogs off on Wednesday and were scheduled to pick them up on Friday. Trying to meet a timeline to get out of our old house we were not able to pick them up Friday. Not knowing the holiday weekend hours I called Saturday morning to try and find out. There was no answer so I left a message. I also checked the website and still could not find the hours of operation. I had really wanted to get the dogs over the weekend to get them trained on our invisible fence. Because I could not reach anyone I had to wait until Monday to pick them up. I was charged 2 additional nights and voiced my opinion with the girl at the front desk. She informed me that she would talk to management and the would call me. I did get a phone call from them 3 days later and Explained to her what happened. I told her that I was not able to find any holiday hours and never received a return phone call from the message I left over the weekend. I asked her if she got my message and she said that she did. She simply told me that everyone else knew when they could get their dogs. She also asked me if I called the emergency vet line and I said why would I do that when I was boarding my dog. I was very disappointed in the lack of care or customer service. I truly felt that it really didn't matter to her whether I continued being a customer or used a competitor. I would not recommend this company to anyone!

A couple of years ago, my big girl Frankie tore a tendon barrel racing because I rode her on bad hard ground, not knowing where to take her I was devastated that she was hurt like she was. I found out about Dr. Rick and his team, and have now got Frankie back in the arena doing what we love to do together. Just today, when Dr. Rick looked at her while taking care of another situation with another horse of mine, he said, I don't remember which front leg it was, only because with his care and orders that I followed she has done exceptionally well. My 90 year old Dad and my sister brought a stray dog into Millwood Animal Hospital to be checked out. Due to her old age, they had hoped she had a family. She was in pretty bad shape. There, she was treated so kindly, cleaned up and brought up to date with all her vaccinations and they even listed her on Facebook as a lost dog looking for her family. My Dad was so impressed with the kindness shown, I think they have found a new vet for their own beloved dog, Cain. Way to go Dad! Your kindness helped you find the perfect veterinarian!

Millwood Animal Hospital is all we could ever want in a Vet office. My favorite parts about Millwood Animal Hospital is that they are also the Equine Clinic. Throughout the past years I have visited four vets in this area and DVM. Rick Smith is the best around. He is very knowledgeable and is willing to explain it to you, unlike other vets. I will never go anywhere else to take my horse, two dogs, and cat. I love these guys to much!!!

Just wanted to say thank you for the care our dog has received while we were on vacation. First it was a trip to Texas, then the cross country trail ride at Eminence MO. Both times we were running late and were able to call for the pickup times. The manager and employees put your pet's care and well being as their number one priority. The pet yard is the only one i know of that lets the pets run and play off the leash , and make new friends. Dr Smith is my veterinarian when I travel to south Missouri with my horses. I have known Dr and Mrs Smith for over 20 years and you will not find more caring people, thay are just like family.

I have been boarding my dog for years when I traveled, but I have never been as pleased with any other facility. The staff at Milwood Pet Ranch is super friendly, Dr Smith is a terrific veterinarian, and the facility itself is ideal. Not only are the suites roomy, but the dogs are able to play and interact with other dogs. It is definitely my dog Chloe's home away from home because she is loved there too. I myself have returned over a weekend when the clinic was closed, but unlike other places, I wasn't forced to wait until Monday to pick Chloe up. They have convenient pick up times which they gladly share if they are aware you will be returning over a weekend. I simply couldn't be more pleased. I love this place, and so does Chloe!

In the middle of moving we boarded our dogs with Millwood Pet Ranch. We had used them many times in the past and had a positive experience. So we dropped our dogs off on Wednesday and were scheduled to pick them up on Friday. Trying to meet a timeline to get out of our old house we were not able to pick them up Friday. Not knowing the holiday weekend hours I called Saturday morning to try and find out. There was no answer so I left a message. I also checked the website and still could not find the hours of operation. I had really wanted to get the dogs over the weekend to get them trained on our invisible fence. Because I could not reach anyone I had to wait until Monday to pick them up. I was charged 2 additional nights and voiced my opinion with the girl at the front desk. She informed me that she would talk to management and the would call me. I did get a phone call from them 3 days later and Explained to her what happened. I told her that I was not able to find any holiday hours and never received a return phone call from the message I left over the weekend. I asked her if she got my message and she said that she did. She simply told me that everyone else knew when they could get their dogs. She also asked me if I called the emergency vet line and I said why would I do that when I was boarding my dog. I was very disappointed in the lack of care or customer service. I truly felt that it really didn't matter to her whether I continued being a customer or used a competitor. I would not recommend this company to anyone!

A couple of years ago, my big girl Frankie tore a tendon barrel racing because I rode her on bad hard ground, not knowing where to take her I was devastated that she was hurt like she was. I found out about Dr. Rick and his team, and have now got Frankie back in the arena doing what we love to do together. Just today, when Dr. Rick looked at her while taking care of another situation with another horse of mine, he said, I don't remember which front leg it was, only because with his care and orders that I followed she has done exceptionally well. My 90 year old Dad and my sister brought a stray dog into Millwood Animal Hospital to be checked out. Due to her old age, they had hoped she had a family. She was in pretty bad shape. There, she was treated so kindly, cleaned up and brought up to date with all her vaccinations and they even listed her on Facebook as a lost dog looking for her family. My Dad was so impressed with the kindness shown, I think they have found a new vet for their own beloved dog, Cain. Way to go Dad! Your kindness helped you find the perfect veterinarian!
