A trip to the Vet at Lemay Animal Hospital Little did I know that a trip to the vet would be be such a disappointing thing. The visit seemed to start very well. We were talking about Busters Breed. When I mentioned that the Humane Society thought he might have Mastiff and Rottweiler. Just a supposition that We think. There is No Rottweiler here. Just Buster a kinda shy and sensitive dog. The mention of Rottweiler seemed to set the vet off. He started in on how aggressive Buster was. He started by wanting to muzzle him. Next thing was two guys picking him up and smashing him onto the table. Of course like any frightened dog he was struggling, This angered the vet, he started into a tirade on how this was ridiculous. And how Buster needed to be tranquilized. Then pushed him off the table. I asked how that would be done. Vet said for next time come in ahead of time and pick up some tranquilizers. Vet continued his tirade about viscous dogs. I would like to imagine two or three guys muzzling the vet and slamming him up on the table. I bet his reaction would be about the same. Terrified and fighting back. The the Vet notices Buster pooped on the table, quickly said we can test this for worms. Charge more money. To put the Vet at ease we will NEVER bring any animal we have anything to do with into this place. There will be NO recommendations ever again. In closing If I were about 20 years younger and in a little better health. When the Vet hollered at my wife to get away. My reaction would have been to come across that table and DECK the SOB. I used to bring both my pets here and never had a problem until this afternoon. My dog was experiencing some skin issues so I decided I needed to get it looked at. I was not sure if he had allergies, dry skin, or fleas or what. My dog is a black lab and he is about 75 lbs so he is a BIG dog, but he is also a BABY. He has never hurt anyone and we had him since he was a puppy. We had Toby, my dog, fixed at Lemay Animal Hospital and since then my dog feared that place. He resisted every time we needed to take him there but we thought it was normal for dogs to fear the vet! Since he is a large dog it was impossible to hold him still on that high table for Doctor David W. Majchrzak to examine him. Toby resisted but never showed signs of aggression. My husband was holding him and Toby kept trying to jump down. It was only (around) 30 secs of trying when the doctor gave up and told him to get down and that he didn't have time for this as he used his hands to help PUSH him off the table. He walked out of the room and wrote us a prescription for allergies. When he came back I asked if he can check to see if it was dry skin or something. He started yelling (I am not kidding) at us saying if we can't control our dog and have him sit down on the table then he would have to put him out before he looks at him. His tone of voice was so demeaning and arrogant. I understand if someone can be afraid of a big dog. That was not the issue. It was how he handled the situation and the way he talked to us. He didn't offer to look at Toby on the floor where my dog was a lot more comfortable. He just handed us the pills and told us we needed to go. I went to the counter to pay for the pills and he (again) told us to leave and he didn't want us to pay for them. He was so upset with us that he would rather us LEAVE than pay for the medication and the "visit". Although I am outraged now, I was more shocked and confused while this was going on to even act angry. As soon as I left I called and asked to speak with someone and told the receptionist my story. She told me no one ever had a problem this doctor before (unlikely) and she trusts his judgement and that they would be more than happy to look at him if they were to tranquilize him because Toby is marked as a caution dog. I asked who marked him as that? He is such a baby. She said if the dog acts scared they do not know what they will be capable of doing so they have to treat them as if they may get aggressive. I can understand that! If he was nervous about what my dog might do and wanted to tranquilize him, then there was a WHOLE other way he could have said it, not treated us the way he did. I came in there concerned about my dog and left with pills that I have no idea will even help him. I don't recommend this place and I certainly do NOT recommend this vet. I am sorry to post such a long review but I felt I had to share my story. Read Less

Sadly, we had to bring my mom's dog in to be euthanized due to her age and health. My sisters, my niece and I were all in the room with our pet. She was a much beloved pet and we were all hurting. The young woman that walked us to the room was so mechanical and stiff, without a hint of sympathy or kindness. The vet was very kind and gentle. When we came out of the room after all was done the same young woman was talking disparagingly about a pet owner that had called. We stood there waiting to pay while she was talking. Then the price they told us we owed was more than what we were quoted on the phone before we came. Please trust me. It is not worth saving any dollars to go here. Avoid Majchrzak!!!! Our dog has gone to this clinic since we adopted her many years ago. It is estimated that she is about 18 years of age which is longer than the life expectancy of dogs her size. As pet owners, we have only had this doctor group so what a shame it is that I leave with the experience that I did today. True we were due back to visit the office in September 2013 and it is January 3, 2014. We were late for our routine visit by 3 months but my dog has lived longer than anyone would have guessed so I suspected that our one-way visit was going to be soon. Yet our Maggie is still eating, drinking and having a good quality of life....except we noticed in the snow this morning bright red blood. We watched her and saw it was bloody urine. She is continent so without the snow we may not have noticed. As a registered nurse I know that it may be as simple as a bladder infection but it is also possible that it is cancer. I did not want to put Maggie to sleep if a trial dose of antibiotics could give us a little more quality of life together. Because our dog is terrified of car rides, I did not want to put her through that stress. I know we are looking at the inevitable soon even if I am not ready today or next month....it is coming. I want her to die in a quiet and peaceful place and am trying to prepare for that if I have any control. I owe her that for the years of joy, love and companionship she has given our family. In medicine we can do video chat and even long distance surgeries so I took a video of my dog and went to see the doctor. I was not asking him to do anything illegal nor unethical in this situation as he accused me. I think I now understand why Maggie is so terrified of car rides---this is the only place we take her in the car! I was horrified by the attitude of Dr. Majchrzak and agree with the previous posts of his obnoxious, uncaring and loud traits. All my years as a nurse I have never been so poorly spoken to by a doctor and I had even offered to pay him for the visit. I am glad that I did not take her to him....I do not want him to be the last person to touch her! He certainly is not gentle nor a healer! Sometimes animals are smarter than people. Dr. Majchrzak took me in a room conveniently located near the reception area, leaving the door open and spoke so the entire clinic could hear. I even asked him to lower his voice but that made him laugh. I guess there is no HIPPA law in veterinary medicine but human decency should be expected when you are a customer. Dr. Majchrzak spoke down to me....even told me that I was irresponsible as a dog owner because they have not seen her recently. I remained calm and professional throughout his rant. He stated what if the antibiotics would cause a problem....so the unspoken was he was worried about legal stuff when I was worried about my dog. Expensive end-of-life care is not needed. The treatment will be the same.....antibiotics may buy us a little time, adverse effects of antibiotics may quicken the inevitable or antibiotics may not work at all--either way my dog is going to die soon. I do not want Maggie to be in pain if I can help her and I know bladder infections are painful. He did not even acknowledge this. I came seeking care but left in a worse condition. I told him that he needed empathy training as I walked out the door without paying. The only good thing I have to say about my visit today was the receptionist gave me the name of a vet who will come to the house--this woman who is likely the least paid staff member seemed to really care and I want her to know the positive difference she made to me.....seems animal care is as challenged as our own health care system. We pay someone for many years and when we need them the most then they are not there. I regret all the referrals that I have sent Read Less

I cannot praise Lemay Animal Hospital enough. I moved relatively close in 1999, and have been taking my 2 cats and 1 dog there ever since. The doctors are all amazing. Dr. Majchrzak is boisterous, funny, kind, and willing to take the time to explain exactly what is going on so that you can understand and make informed decisions. Dr. Taff is quiet, kind, compassionate, and clearly dedicated to his work and his patients. Dr. McCord is funny, kind, dedicated, and devoted to his patients. I have seen all three doctors, and have been happy with all three. In the past year, I have had to put both cats, and my dog to sleep. Dr. Majchrzak put my first cat to sleep, and could not have been more kind, caring, and compassionate. Dr. Taff put both my second cat and my dog to sleep, and he was also amazing, compassionate, caring. They both gave me time by myself, after my babies were gone, to hold them and grieve a bit. While my babies were alive, these three took the best care of them that I have ever had from vets. In addition to the stellar care, they are amazingly reasonably priced. I rave about this place to anyone who will listen. The building is old and not fancy, but if you want vets that will care about your pets and you, and will give you top notch care at a reasonable price, don't go anywhere else. Read Less

I was going to Banfield Pet Hospital for my dogs needs, and they always managed to come up with something that cost me extra, and he never really needed it for whatever reason I was there, they always tried to talk me into an x-ray... ALWAYS... After my boxer had an allergic reaction, I rushed him to Banfield, where they told me that he needed to have an X-Ray! Really?! His eyes are swollen to the point that he couldn't see.... but you want to do an x-ray? Because I didn't have the extra $200 to have an e-ray done ""just to be safe"", I chose to get a second opinion - Lemay Animal Hospital is close to my home, and they could immediately see my boy. Walked in, and the doc said it's obvious he's had an allergic reaction to something. A shot of cortizone and some antibiotics later, my pooch was back to perfect condition. The best thing is that the visit - with cortizone shot and prescription, was under $50. I've since made Lemay Animal Hospital my vet and my dog has seen all the docs at this point (there are 3 total). I love that they have evening hours, so I don't have to miss work. The staff are knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and my dog likes going there. I would recommend LAH to anyone that cares about their pets. Read Less

If you are looking for a cheap place to take your pets, then this may be the place for you. If you are looking for a caring place to take your pets, keep looking. While Drs. Taff and McCord are OK, Dr. Majchrzak is just loud, obnoxious, and uncaring. My dog had to have surgery a few years back. Majchrzak performed the surgery. When I went to pick up my dog after the surgery, he sent in a vet tech to talk to me. When I asked to talk to Majchrzak, the tech said he was busy and there was no need to talk to him. My dog developed an infection after surgery and I called the hospital to see about brining him in to be seen. I explained the problem to the receptionist, who put me on hold to talk to Majchrzak. He told the receptionist to tell me there was no need to bring my dog in. A couple of days passed and my dog was getting worse. I called back and again talked to the receptionist, who said Majchrzak wasn't there and talked to Dr. Taff, who said to bring my dog in. Come to find out my dog was pretty sick with infection and Taff prescribed meds to take care of it.If you're really pinching pennies and need to go to this vet, try to see Taff or McCord.

Go where they are much more professional and better trained on how to treat customers!!!Read Less
