Dr. King is amazing! He cares so much about all my animals. The main problem is you can NEVER get through on the phone. It's always "busy" and you can't leave a message. It's very frustrating when trying to make an appointment. It makes me highly consider going somewhere else!!!! Not only that, but I had emailed around 7a and they gave all appointments away to first come calls at 9a. (I was calling for 15 min straight starting at 9a on the dot) Read Less

I don't think you could find a better all-around vet clinic. It's super busy and chaotic, but I'm understanding that sometimes appointment times are often goals rather than the reality of emergencies and the not rushing appointments with patients. I get the same treatment when it's my turn, and they've stopped everything it seems to save my little guy from poisoning. If you get upset over small clerical things, having to wait, chaotic waiting room, fair prices, then maybe don't go here, but if you want to develop a relationship with a vet for all your fur babies for years (5 or so years now here) and years then give them a try. Seems all people are welcomed. Very diverse clientelle when I am in the waiting room. LGBT friendly especially too. Seems like a lot of LGBT use Watson Road. Read Less

Dr. Zeiss & Dr. King are amazing! I will never trust my dog(s) with a different vet due to their compassion, care, & expertise. I am not fan of Dr. Rodis, however. He was kind of a jerk the one day we could not get either of the two mentioned above, but then again he could have been having an off day. The vet techs & other assistants remember our dogs by name & are very friendly, knowledgeable, as well as helpful. One of my babies is prone to seizures & unfortunately was so nervous she had one in the lobby - but everyone stopped what they were doing to get her proper care & recovery! The other two veterinarians available also do a fantastic job, but I highly recommend Dr. Zeiss & Dr. King! They are the BEST in Saint Louis, hands down! Read Less

The best standing very clinic hands down. I wish they were 24 hours. They'd be that busy. The vets are amazing. How do you say thank you to people that have gone above and beyond for your dogs countless times, even if it was to help one on his final journey? They've added a fifth vet and are still swamped. Despite being busy, the quality of care is incredible, and they don't take half your wallet to have your best buddy treated. I'll keep recommending them and going there. Read Less

My ball python was old and got very sick, very fast after going on a hunger strike and was refusing water. He died in the waiting room, but there was nothing they could have done and they were very compassionate. When he was alive, Dr. King gave him great care and helped him overcome bacterial pneumonia, and they were there for him in death as well. I am heart broken over the loss, but glad he passed with so many caring people. Read Less

I only called up there to ask about prices, payment, availability, etc. The woman I spoke with wasn't very helpful nor knowledgeable about anything. She seemed apathetic, aloof and answered most of my questions with a melancholy, "yeah." You would think employees would be a little friendlier, engaged in conversations and would be knowledgeable about their place of employment, especially when dealing with people that are going through a highly stressful situation with their beloved pets. I hate to think this one person represents the entire place, but first impressions are an insight to what the future holds. Read Less

I stated going to this clinic because it was cheaper. Well, you get what you pay for and I'll never use them again and highly recommend others find another vet. Dr. McCartney misdisgnosed my dog 2 times, the first time on January 28th and then again on January 31st. Even when we questioned his diagnosis and asked him over and over, he assured him there was no concern and that he was right. He was so very, very wrong and his misdiagnosis has caused my dog to be in excrutiating pain since then and has caused us an extra $400 in vet bills. When I went to the clinic to confront him he would not even come out to talk to us. Because of his negligence, there is a very good chance I will now have to put my dog to sleep. Read Less

We use whatever Vet is available and have been satisfied with the care our dogs have been given. Right now we have four dogs we take there and we are very pleased to receive a multiple pet discount.Sometimes the wait is a bit long but it is a minor point compared to the good care of our pets. I'm not picky about my veterinarians, so I was just looking for someone to visit occasionally for routine shots and such and this place was fairly close to my house. I've now been here 4-5 times and I just don't understand the positive reviews. The customer service is TERRIBLE. Let me explain my last visit, where I needed to bring in my dog for a flu shot, which was required by her doggie daycare place. I scheduled an appointment for a doggie flu shot at 6:00pm, several weeks in advance. A day after I scheduled the appointment, I received a postcard in the mail stating that my pup was due for her annual bordetella shot. Fine. I called Watson Road (during business hours) to see if she could go ahead and get the bordetella at the same as the flu shot. Why didn't they tell me she was due for that when I booked the flu shot? In any event, no one answered the phone when I called (per the usual), so I left a message. No call back. A few days later, I tried calling again and got someone to answer. "Sure, no problem," as they rushed me off the phone. I arrived at my appointment promptly at 6:00pm and signed in. And waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, someone behind the counter calls me up around 6:30pm. "What brings you in today?" he asks. "I have an appointment at 6:00pm...30 minutes ago." "For what?" "A flu shot and a bordetella shot," I said. "Okay, we'll call you when you're ready." Finally, an HOUR after my scheduled appointment, they called me back. I've seen this particular veterinarian several times now, and he's never been friendly, but this time, he started making weird hand gestures towards my dog and teasing her, saying, "Are you scared? Are you scared?" while making strange noises and waving his hands around. Very bizarre. So, my dog started growling at him (a very rare thing for her) and he seemed agitated at this, so he goes to get some treats to try to make friends with her (dude, you started it!). I see he has one vaccine in his hand and I suspiciously ask, "Is that both bordetella and the flu shot?" "Oh, she needs the bordetella one?" Shouldn't you know this as the veterinarian with her records in front of you?! "Yeah, I said. I got a postcard in the mail." "Oh, okay." And he leaves to go get the bordetella shot, without even looking through her records to confirm what I said. After I get out of there, I go to the checkout and stand there for 5 minutes or so without anyone acknowledging me. Finally, a young guy rudely says, "What do you need?" "Umm...I need to pay." I then asked for a copy of her records to take to doggie daycare, and he clearly was annoyed at this request. $60 and an hour and a half later, we were on our way. Sadly, this has been the experience I've had EVERY TIME I've gone there. Oh, and the place is totally filthy every time, like they haven't sweeped or mopped for weeks. The waiting room is disgusting. I won't be returning. Read Less

I have had many great experiences with Watson. I recommend Dr. Zeis VERY highly. Dr. McCartney took great care of us too. I brought a VERY sick stray kitten to another vet and they basically told me it was going to be $1200 to hospitalize him and he might not make it. I couldn't afford that (and luckily I found a kitten expert in their waiting room who gave me great advice) and someone else recommended Watson. I went in the next day with my very sick kitten and Dr. McCartney gave him fluids and cleaned out his wounds and gave me very good home-care advice. Unfortunately sometimes kittens don't make it, he explained, but he gave me first class advice for caring for the little guy without needing hospitalization.Well I'm happy to say that the cat made it and was adopted by my neighbors! They understood that I was on a budget and answered all of my questions and gave me great advice. I really think Dr. McCartney saved the cat's life AND gave me the kind of knowledge that will help with future cat emergencies. Read Less

I have been to Watson Road with at least 3 dogs (one puppy shots/neuter, checkups, shots, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, one emergency tummy issue, one torn ACL, other random maladies), a cat (thyroid problems), and a bearded dragon (kidney failure - leading to euthanasia), and seen at least 4 different doctors. Every experience was outstanding. The staff is very helpful with questions both over the phone and in person. They are extremely reasonably priced compared to other vets I've used in the area. I'm EXTREMELY happy that they now accept CareCredit! This makes budgeting so much easier. Although they have always been sensitive to the fact that I have limited means. When I've not been able to afford a certain treatment they've never made me feel guilty or pressured. One highlight of many: After Dr. King euthanized our bearded dragon, he sent us a handwritten sympathy card, even though that was the only time I'd brought the lizard in and I hadn't seen Dr. King with any of my other animals, we'd just met. You can tell that each and every doctor and staff member really loves animals and understands your love for your animal. I couldn't be more pleased with the treatment we've received here. Read Less

Update: I've lowered my review to 2 stars. This experience has been extremely disappointing. Watson Road doesn't give you an appointment to get stitches removed after surgery and tell you just to bring them in any time. Often this is hard with my schedule because I have to either take off work (for which I need an appointment) or rush to get there before close. Today, I called to tell them I was on my way and was going to be cutting it close to 7 to see if someone would still remove her stitches and their response was well, we leave at 7 (with no offer to stay even a minute after). Working in health care or any customer service industry, I can tell you this is not how it works. Be a little considerate of and flexible your customers, especially if you can't give me an appointment and scheduled time to go along with the surgery I already paid for. We have been taking our two dogs, who are mostly healthy and now 4 and 8 years old, to this vet clinic for the past 3 years. We have been mostly very happy with the staff and the vets for routine check-ups and shots. It is easy to get an appointment, reasonably priced, and we have always had positive interactions with Dr. McCartney. However, if you need more than that the care is sub-par. We decided to have our 8-year dogs teeth cleaned and a growth removed from her shoulder. This was the first operation we have needed to have had performed on either of our dogs (they were spayed at the shelter). When you make an appointment for a surgery, they say that you can drop your dog off at 8:30am and pick them up in the afternoon and that is the extent of the information. When you get there that morning, 10 other owners are there with their animal to get them checked in, so you better get there before 8:30 to get in line. They should stagger the appointments, even 5 minutes to get pets checked in for the day. However, the thing that was most disappointing about this experience was when I picked up my dog. I came in and said I was there to pick up Lily and the girl behind the counter, without saying a word, went to the back for a while, presumably to get my dog. When she returned with Lily, she brought her out to me without any more information. When I asked if there was anything I should know, she said "No, I mean she didn't need any teeth pulled or anything," completely ignoring the 3 inch incision on her shoulder. When I asked about care of the incision, she looked confused and looked to another receptionist. The other receptionist then took over an explained the medication that the doctor had prescribed (which, the original person did not even allude to!) and how to care for her post-op, with feeding, water, and being careful of stairs. When she was done, she moved onto the next customer and I had to ask if I owed anything before anyone would even take my money. The biggest downside: I'm still not positive I got all the information I would have liked to properly take care of my pet after surgery. The positive: price for the whole thing was pretty reasonable, less than $300 for teeth cleaning and growth removal. Read Less

I had great experiences here until the last two visits. One was to get my dog's teeth cleaned and the next was a visit because my dog was sick. Both experiences were with Dr. McCartney. In the past I never cared who saw my dog because everyone was great. I especially like Dr. King. When my dog had his teeth cleaned the receptionist told me a price over the phone. When my husband went to pick up my dog it was considerably more. When I called they said it was bc he filled out the lab paperwork to include more labs than were needed. No one guided him through it or questioned it when he turned it in. How the heck is the non-vet dog owner supposed to know what labs they need for the procedure??? Maybe just tell us what he needs and ask if we want more. Strike one. Strike two was when we were told that there were no teeth extracted and  our dog came home with most of his bottom front teeth missing. When I asked about it, his file had no indication of teeth extraction and no explanation for why he was missing most of his front bottom teeth. Strike two. A couple of weeks ago we brought our dog in for an array of symptoms. Dr. McCartney prescribed meds for 10 days and said if he's not better to call and bring him in for x-rays. The meds didn't work and in the meantime I did a little online research based upon the symptoms. Even the worldwide web told me that my dog didn't have what Dr. McCartney was treating. When I called after a week, I was told that they were too busy, but I could come in and wait. I can't just sit in a vet waiting room with my nervous dog waiting to be seen when they can squeeze me in. Now that I know what my dog has and after explaining his symptoms to the people over the phone, I'm so disappointed that they just blew me off. My dog was dying and they didn't really seem to care. I ended up taking him to Webster Groves Animal Hospital and saw Dr. Hendrickson who was WONDERFUL! She immediately saw the gigantic tumor on the roof of his mouth--the tumor Dr. McCartney didn't see bc he never put my dog on the table and really examined him. He had a nasal tumor that had spread. Two days after Webster Groves told me what I pretty much figured what was wrong, we had to put our dog to sleep. No x-rays were needed--just a good old fashioned examination. I feel like Watson Rd has become a revolving door and never really felt like they cared the last few times we were there. Which is a real shame bc we used to be so happy with them. If something is really wrong with your dog, make sure you do your homework BEFORE the appointment bc you can't trust that they will do their job to really get to the root of the problem, I'm sorry to say. I have been taking my dogs to see Dr. Zeis at Watson Road Veterinary Clinic for the last twenty years. He's the best vet I've ever encountered, and my dogs have loved him. His compassion for humans is admirable as well. When my dog Zeus was entering his end-of-life weeks, Dr. Zeis was patient and kind about my repeated calls and tears, yet honest and straightforward about what to expect in those weeks. I would not take my dogs anywhere else, period, and I cannot recommend or respect him more highly. Read Less

We're huge fans of Kingsbury Animal Hospital, but when they quoted us over $500 (!!!) to have our 7-lb. dog neutered, we thought that was crazy.  After doing some research, we decided to take our little guy to Watson Road (a much more reasonable $125).  I guess you get what you pay for...When I scheduled the appointment, the guy who answered the phone was probably around 16 years old.  He provided absolutely no information about the procedure or pre-op instructions and when I asked him some questions, he told me that they would tell me about it when I got there. When I got there, the place was overrun with people and their animals.  As I was waiting in line to check in, a large dog peed all over the floor and the staff left it sitting there for at least ten minutes (it should be noted that the irresponsible owner didn't make any efforts to clean it up either).  I almost turned around and left, because I was concerned about cleanliness standards, but the girl who checked me in was friendly and very sweet to my pup, so I apprehensively let him go.I was told I would get a phone call around 3 when he was ready.  By 4, I still hadn't gotten a call, so I phoned and they said he was finished.  When I picked him up, I told the receptionist (a different one from the morning) that I was there to pick up my dog and she looked confused, repeatedly saying his name and checking the appointment book, like she didn't think he was there.  She finally found his record and brought him out.  The surgery seemed to go ok (he was definitely out of it), but what killed me was that they refused to give him pain medication.  I told this to several people who were dog owners and they had never heard of a vet refusing to give pain medication after a surgery.  Additionally, they told me to come back in 7-10 days to get his sutures removed, but wouldn't give me an appointment to do that.  I mean, I have a job--I can't just sit around a vet's office for an unknown amount of time, waiting to be seen.  Luckily, my husband is a doctor so he was able to remove the dog's stitches at home, but Watson Road never called to follow up to see 1. how the dog was doing or 2. whether he had his sutures removed. This place operates like a factory.  They are all about seeing as many animals as possible and I didn't see any evidence that they actually cared about any of them.  I never met a doctor or nurse, and the receptionist clearly wasn't interested in giving me any sort of post-op instructions.  Bottom line: I'll be saving my money to ensure my dog gets proper care next time. Read Less

Dr. McCartney misdisgnosed my dog 2 times, the first time on January 28th and then again on January 31st. Even when we questioned his diagnosis and asked him over and over, he assured him there was no concern and that he was right. I have been bringing my pets here for over 30 years.  My vet is Dr. Zeiss but when he wasn't there we saw Dr. King and Dr. McCartney.  They take their time, they care and they are always correct in what they do and tell you.   Dr. Zeiss is so compassionate.  I cannot put into words how much they have done for my pets (and for me), especially when it is an emergency and when it is time to put my cats to sleep.  Two of my cats have had illnesses that are not curable. Towards the end, I could bring them in at any time and we were always seen.  The compassion from the office staff is also astounding. Read Less

Read Less

This place is small but cheap. not perfect with the doctors but at least their nice and willing to help. unlike other places that dont know wth their talking about and are expensive as hell. Thats me being honest. one office visit here is $35and thats pretty cheap compared to other places. And Overall I really like our doctor because well, she's sweet and nice and she goes out of her way to care for my dogs so I give that a thumbs up and I'm sure you would feel the same.To have someone who's only in it for the money or just trying to slaughter your bank account will not earn a hospital any awards or badges but make them a place that cant be trusted. I believe business and trust go hand in hand. despite that its a business, you also need to take care of your clients, not lie to them or purposely get them to pay more when you know shit shouldnt be costing that much... Read Less

They not only got me in within a 2 hour notice they also did the surgery right away. My Calla is very skittish and they were all very gentle and did their best to make her comfortable. I have come to believe that a lot of vets these days charge much more than necessary to line their pocket books and i was expecting to have to drain my savings to pay for the surgery.
