I have been going to Dr. Smith since 1997 when I picked up my first dog who'd been thrown out of a moving vehicle. I have always had excellent service there and now that Doc has help Doc Chris there is always someone there in cases of emergency. When other local vets wanted over $1000 to help my 9 yr old min pin Dr. Smith charged me half that and fixed my girls hip. The docs at Chance Ridge are old school country vets and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my dogs if I have 1/2 a choice. Take it or leave it but my dogs are very good hands at Chance Ridge. P.S.: I didn't go there to check out the decor I went because my dogs needed a knowledgeable vet who could make life good for them. Which in turn makes my life good. Read Less

WONDERFUL FACILITY AND STAFF We have been taking our pets to Dr. Smith and staff at Chance Ridge since the early 90's. I cannot say enough good about our experiences. Dr. Smith operated on our sheltie that was hit by a car. She was very lucky to have had such a good, caring experienced vet as Dr. Smith. She was probably around 3 when this happened, she passed away last year at the age of 17 years, 9 months old. She was truly part of the family. All of our experiences have been good at Chance Ridge. Deb at the front, is caring and friendly. We have also boarded our animals there and have had no trouble what so ever. If you are looking for a vet that caters to expensive unnecessary charges and a facility resembles a day spa, then this vet and clinic is not for you! I have compared prices with other vets in the Omaha area and Dr. Smith is by far the most reasonable. We have never felt that we were provided or billed unnecessary services. If anything it was the opposite. We have been extremely satisfied with the care our animals have received and will continue to trust Dr. Smith and his staff. Read Less

I am a vet tech and have worked at several vet clinics. I had the privilege of assisting Doc Smith with his appointments and even in his surgeries. I got to work in every aspect of the clinic. He is an old fashioned man, with old fashioned ways. He is a true cowboy in every sense of the word. He will help any animal that comes into his clinic, whether he knows they can pay or not. He will even work on stray animals that people bring in! I am going to vet school and hope that I can be half as good of a vet a this man is. Read Less

Please, please, please do not board your animals or have them vetted at this horrible place. Dogs are rarely checked against disease or infection before boarding. They are left in a 100+ kennel area with no heat, dim light, and NO HUMAN COMPANIONS. The dogs are not walked, they are not let outside, the attendants are not allowed to play with each dog. Young dogs become aggressive or excessively timid after staying here. They also experience potty training setbacks due to NEVER being let outside, forced to eliminate where they sleep. Senior dogs become depressed and withdrawn, and depending on your relationship, may never fully trust you again. This place is THAT traumatic for dogs. The feline boarding facilities are considerably more humane, but I strongly discourage people from boarding their cats there. The vet who owns this horrible place just wants your money; don't give him the means to torture more dogs. Read Less

If I can sway one person's decision to board here, I'll be happy. I worked here for a short time over the holidays a few years ago. They have 100+ kennels for boarding dogs, and they keep all the dogs in a separate, unheated area. It was utter chaos. It was so loud from all the barking that many of us wore ear plugs just going in there. The dogs weren't let outside (there were over 100!), and were lucky if they were fed and watered twice daily. One dog knocked the floor out of the kennel above him--imagine what would have happened had there been a dog on the upper part. If your dog needs daily meds, or any special treatment of any kind, forget it. It won't happen. The vet that owns the place is interested in one thing, and one thing only: making money. I went home in tears several times before finally finding a different vet clinic to work at. Please, please DO NOT board your dog here, especially if he/she is a senior (they seem to be more traumatized by this than the younger ones). I know the kennels become filled over the holidays, but please make every effort to find other arrangements. Cats are fine, however... they actually had a very nice area for boarding cats. Read Less
