God bless Elkhorn Animal Hospital. My dog was born with a rare, life-threatening health condition that he will have his entire life. Sadly, most dogs don't live past a year with this condition. My dog will have this condition all his life. My dog was middle-aged when I started bringing him here. Every other vet I'd gone to---*no one* had hands-on experience treating his condition. (The vets at other clinics were referring to Google for help.) The only experience other clinics had was euthanizing a dog for being born this way.BUT, at least three, if not more, doctors at Elkhorn Animal Hospital: (1) had hands-on experience with my dog's condition, and (2) could partner with me to improve his quality of life. Elkhorn's vets asked questions and investigated avenues that other vet clinics hadn't brought up before. This was so refreshing and relieving compared to the usual response I'd become accustomed to. Doctors I've had appointments with and had positive experiences with: Dr. Emily Koppold, Dr. Danielle Weidaur, and Dr. Jennifer Jones. I haven't yet had an appointment with Dr. Eliza Smith, however the staff has informed me that she also has worked with multiple dogs that have my dog's same rare condition. As a whole, I've only heard good things about the vets (I think they have six total...?). The first appointment I had here was with Dr. Emily Koppold. A our first appointment, I expected the usual ringaround I'd become accustomed to. ---Nope.--- Dr. Koppold was 100% invested in our appointment, shared her experience with my dog's condition, expressed her own sadness that pets with this condition are often left to suffer and/or die. From the first appointment, I was sold. As some reviewers have noted, it's common to wait 10-15 minutes before being put in an exam room. This is normal in medical offices and it doesn't bother me (it's the same at my doctor or dentist's office, always has been). Also, the doctors' medical support staff work to bridge the gap. For example, the doctor may still be working with the client before me in an exam room, meanwhile, the vet technician will come speak with me in the waiting area to begin the appointment (my dog's overall health, my concerns, etc.). I haven't seen this at other clinics. And the staff *cares.*Also---please remember---this place is a *hospital.* Meaning, they have routine exams throughout the day, but also *emergencies.* I've seen clients rush in because their pet just fell down the stairs, and the dog's back legs can't move. I know what it's like to feel the helpless ---terror--- of a loved one potentially disabled and/or at death's door. If my second dog, who is "healthy and normal" was delayed for her yearly physical because an emergency arrived, it might inconvenience me to wait or rebook... But someone's best friend may die if the doctor prioritized my check-up over the emergency. I'd want that other pet seen first, too.I have lots of memories of times my dog has been "the emergency." Thankfully, since changing to this clinic January 2017, we haven't had one emergency. This is amazing.Elkhorn Animal Hospital provides friendly, professional, intelligent, and detail-oriented staff who CARE. They also have lots of deals on food and preventative meds (flea/tick prevention, etc.). And take lots of manufacturer coupons, which is always a plus. This is the best vet clinic I've ever worked with. With my dog's rare, potentially lethal condition, during his seven years of life, I've spent many hours in three emergency clinics, and seven vet clinics. Elkhorn Animal Hospital is the leader of the pack. This place is gold. Read Less
