Gretna Animal Clinic

Gretna, Nebraska
General Info
Gretna Animal Clinic in Gretna continues to be an important part of the lives of local pet parents. Gretna Animal Clinic in Gretna views veterinarian practices as trust-building enterprises for human and animal clients across Nebraska. Before cats allow an examination, one needs to look away from them. Dogs might require prolonged sessions to transition through the steps and need approvals to sniff the tools. The clinic utilizes a species-specific approach that is emotionally attentive to prevent overstimulation and accommodating of the animal’s unique tolerance levels. The technique views the owners as full partners in collaboration. Veterinarians note the way the pet sleeps in its bed and how it behaves after a storm or walks on different surfaces as aspects of clinical study. Gretna Animal Clinic offers several core medical care services for multiple species, such as preventive planning, diagnostics, internal medicine, nutrition counseling, dentistry and senior pet wellness. The timing of each procedure is precisely aligned with the animal’s ability to remain relaxed and present. Certain pets undergo diagnostic procedures spread over several visits while receiving an anxiety-reducing preparation plan. Exotic pets need special strategies to deal with them to prevent health issues which arise from stress. Upon completion, families also receive post-care pointers via the app focusing on strategizing appointments and the kind of behavior to observe. This involves monitoring how they express pain or discomfort and checking if sound or activity overwhelms them as normal routines resume. Each treatment plan has its rhythm that determines when to stop, connect with the patient, and review the progress. Gretna Animal Clinic provides veterinary services to pets and families in Gretna and the surrounding Nebraska regions by using an emotional compass to identify each patient’s unique stress signals, body language, and timing needs. Some of the popular services at this facility include bloodwork, wellness exams, microchipping, diagnostics, equine care, senior pet care, and avian (bird) care. Additionally, services such as dental care and house calls are offered in a professional manner. Whether implementing wellness plans or managing complex medical cases, owners have confidence in the care that their pets receive at Gretna Animal Clinic. The team remains dedicated to growth and community interaction to ensure pets around Gretna and the entire United States have access to quality care.

I know from working with Google reviews at the business I work for that you will never make everyone happy. If you want a vet that is genuinely concerned for your pets health then this is the vet for you. Dr Henning does not sugar coat anything and his only concern is your pets health. I have referred everyone that has asked me about a vet to Doc. My sister had bought a 6 week old Pomerania that broke his leg the same night they got him home. Doc came right in to help her, again keep in mind she was not one of his customers before this happened. Also I have had to call him after hours on 3 different occasions and he always calls me back, talks with me to see if I need to bring my pet in or if it can wait until the morning. This just goes to shows that he is not in this for the money. Read Less

"Doc" as I call him can be very blunt and to the point. He has a dry sense of humor however I have never been more comfortable taking my animals to a vet. His vast knowledge and skill level is unlike any vet I have ever had. His main concern is the animals not how the owners feel. I seen the bad review and felt I needed to write a review because he can be easily misunderstood. With all of that said if you want a vet that focuses on the health of your animal and has more than reasonable pricing this is the vet for you. Read Less

Visited with an adopted dog from NE Humane Society to receive a rabie shot and free exam. This vet said no clinics in Omaha give free exams and if I keep the dog he has to charge for a visit. He states his taxes are very high and he can not give his services away. I check with three other clinics and they all offer free visits. He did not read the medical paper given to him before the exam and did not believe the NE Humane Society knew anything as they are just a bunch of volunteers and there is no way anyone would breed this dog. This Vet is only in this for the money, and he has no manners. Stay away. Also, his medical conclusion about my dog having a dermatology disease and possibly a pituitary gland issue and it is going to cost a great deal to keep him from suffering. I said fine, I will take her back the the Human Society so they can treat her. He said it probably won't show up in blood work yet so they won't treat her. Vet stated that I could give her a good life and then we can just end her life when the disease starts. It's the quality of life not the quantity. Also, I stated that I am on a fixed income and can not afford to treat if it is going to be expensive, he said "then maybe you should not own a dog." Read Less

If I could give a negative rating, I would. We took our dog to the Gretna Animal Clinic for an annual check-up since we just moved to town. The vet (I think he's probably the owner) said our dog's nails were too long and it might hurt his joints.  We were a bit behind on his nail trim schedule (we Dremel them ourselves) but by no means were they completely out of control.Long story short: The vet didn't suggest or even offer the option of trimming the nails on a regular basis to allow the quick to slowly recede, instead he told us to leave the room and cut through the quick on every single nail. They held down our dog on the counter and we heard him screaming with every snip from outside the room, which just broke my heart. When we went back in, my dog couldn't walk because of the sore nails and he was extremely scared.  We were stupid to just let it happen without saying anything, but in retrospect it angered us that he put our dog through that kind of trauma without offering the obvious choice of trimming just to the quick (where it wouldn't hurt) and trimming more often, which causes the quick to slowly and painlessly recede over time.Anyone who has a dog knows how hard it is to get them to be comfortable with having their nails trimmed.  It's a slow process that involves lots of treats and making the dog feel like he's not going to have his foot cut off.  Our dog was a particular challenge at first as he would bite and fight, so we had to use a muzzle at the beginning.  Then we slowly used treats and positive reinforcement to make it a happier, muzzle-free experience.   Needless to say, this experience was a major setback for us - thank God today our dog seems to have forgotten about this experience and still lets us trim his nails with a Dremel. To boot, the assistant tech was rude, and shushed me when I was trying to ask questions.  The vet is old school and basically didn't want to hear anything about what we heard on "that dang Internet", including whether or not a 10-in-1 vaccine is really necessary EVERY year (hint: it's not, but it IS a great cash cow if you're a vet).   The vet is probably good at large animals but definitely doesn't have the people skills or a sense of actually caring about animals appropriate for a small animal clinic. They treated us like we were ignorant fools and we certainly felt that way to have let them treat our pet the way they did.  If you have a dog, go somewhere else. You won't be sorry like I was.
