Nebraska Animal Medical Center

Lincoln, Nebraska
General Info
Nebraska Animal Medical Center establishes a patient-focused care framework for Lincoln families while providing pet owners throughout Nebraska detailed insights into each medical procedure step. The first visits involve environmental adjustment where pets start acclimating to room layout and adjusting to sounds and light levels. From the moment animals enter the clinic veterinarians start observing their behavior by tracking their gait patterns social responses zones of hesitation breath rhythms and tactile reactivity. Healthcare evaluations include examinations of coat condition, hydration status, gum coloration, limb function, joint response, abdominal firmness, and muscle stability. Owner feedback completes the intake picture—recent appetite changes grooming routines interaction shifts and vocalization patterns all help guide the next steps. Nebraska Animal Medical Center delivers an array of structured services encompassing lab panels, dental procedures, surgical prep and recovery alongside age-adjusted diagnostics and preventative wellness mapping. Every service milestone receives detailed explanation while visual progress tools support multi-visit plans. The team assists owners in deciphering body language throughout recovery while understanding behaviors that indicate readiness or resistance which makes home care more intuitive. The scheduling of follow-up visits relies on behavioral benchmarks instead of simple calendar dates. Owners should monitor observable changes such as sleep cycles, eye contact duration, surface preferences, and mobility gradients to contextualize each return check-in. This ensures decisions are made with confidence and continuity. Pet families throughout Lincoln and wider Nebraska experience a clinical partnership at Nebraska Animal Medical Center where knowledge patience and visibility stand at the forefront to ensure care becomes an active collaboration from the first day.

We boarded our dog for 4 days. When we picked him up he was not acting like he felt well. The next day we called and said our dog was not feeling well and had been in your care the last 4 days. They said we will have our manager call you back at 2pm. At 4:20pm they called back and had us bring him back in. We asked them to take care of this because he had gotten sick in there "care". They told us NO we would be paying for all of the medications and visit. This is not the first time our dog has had gotten sick in there "care" but it was the last time we were going to pay for there neglect. This is the worst Vet in Lincoln! Keep your pets away! You will find a better, more caring Vet up the street about 18 blocks. These people are only out for a buck not the care of family animals! Read Less

Although the puppy plan itself was reasonably priced for the monthly prescriptions and spay, it didn't include much else. We were caught off guard 3 times about unexpected costs, even after calling to check the day ahead. We were also constantly waiting, despite the number of doctors they had. And the organization of records and record communication were disappointing (ie using my spouse's number to return a call I made, while he was at work; forgetting that our dog had been weighed and making us come in twice in one month just to refill a prescription). Good with animals, Bad and Expensive for Humans. Read Less

WARNING! These people could hurt your pets! This post is dedicated to my bunny Panda. She was taken away by a rude tech for an exam by Dr. Riley, whom I wasn't introduced to. After finally speaking with the vet, I felt like nobody there cared because no blood work was done or ex-rays taken. The vet accusingly told me: "Most people don't want to pay to have their rabbits ex-rayed". That was insulting, as I brought Panda there for a thorough assesment. So, they weren't positively sure of what ailments she had, but suggested treatments that just didn't make much sense to me. I tearfully asked for Panda back. We needed to go somewhere better. Then I saw that her lips were turning blue! There was never any mention of her needing oxygen! I felt her dying in my arms! To my horror, I realized that Panda needed immediate euthanization! I didnt trust them to do that, but we were hopelessly trapped with all better clinics being closed for days on this early weekend morning. We ended up in a morgue-like room with alot of cages and loud barking; not, at all, the peaceful room they advertise! Panda was terrifed of dogs too! While lying on a gross slab, she was treated like a piece of meat! There would not be one kind word or soothing handling from the vet, eventhough, she knew that Panda understood 30+ words. I tried to shield Panda and worried about her treatment earlier in THE OTHER ROOM. For comfort, I placed my hand over Pandas' face. She used to nudge her head under my hands for comforting, but couldn't do that now. I could see that the euthanasia process was dragging out way too long! It should have been instant. I wanted to whisk her away, but knew that it would only add to her suffering at that point! She would shake her very sensitive ears as the vet needled through them for a long time with the heart-stopping drug. Panda never liked having her ears messed with and now they were bruised and peirced in multiple places! Then she jerked her head back after another needle stab to an ear! She was unable to blink and her eyes were becomming dry and sticky! I tried to close them for her. It appeared that she hadn't been properly anesthetized as she reacted to numerous painful jabs and ear tugs. The vet made a horrible remark like "Who knows what they feel?" Panda was then stabbed in the leg and instantly injected with something else! Slower would have been less painful ( from my own hospital experience). The vet also remarked: "I'm not very good at this. My tech can do this better, but went home." I wasn't allowed to help and cried more for Panda. We were trapped in hell with no mercy! All of my comforting just wasn't enough. After suffering a half hour, or so, of torture, Panda slowely passed! Then, the vet muttered something like: OK! It's done! She then turned her back on us and walked away from the slab of death. This was like no other euthanasia that I have ever witnessed! It was horribly apparent that nobody there could care less about either of us! What awful people! Earlier, the vet had remarked that animals should die for our medicines and that she became a vet because animals could be euthanized. They were experts at adding insults and more pain. It was a nightmare for Panda and me in our greatest time of need and was unbearable! Sadly, I failed to find my soul mate a peaceful end to her happy life! I tearfully cradled my dead friend in my arms, and was lead to the office where the vet wanted payment for all this. She loaded me down with my purse and bill, leaving me struggling to get into my car. No condolances were given on our way out. I did hear a good-bye and: "Do you want a box?" (as if we just left mcdonalds). My bill was reduced, but that couldn't reduce Pandas' torment! She loved all people and always had kisses for them. These "slaughternarians" hurt Panda. I worry that she felt betrayed by me taking her away from our home, while she was sick, and given to strangers that were so mean to her. I'll never go back! Read Less

We have used NAMC since 1992 to care for our pets. I always appreciate the compassion and caring our fur babies receive when there. The daycare hours are wonderful - so nice to know our dogs are monitored and well cared for while we're at work (including weekends), and our dogs have really bonded with the kennel staff. When we've had to make the heartbreaking decisions to bid farewell to two of our dogs (at ages 16+ and almost 18.5 years), staff members shared tears along with us. Dr. Cosgrove is a great vet, but you never know what you'll get with the rest of the staff. During a recent emotional visit with my dog, the assistant eavesdropped on my phone conversation with my husband and misconstrued what I said. After I left I received a call from the vet (who is unfriendly, which I actually could care less about, but at least be polite and respectful) who acted like I don't care about my dog. Anyone who knows me knows my dogs are my babies. I felt extremely disrespected. Most of the support staff need to work on their customer service skills. They are extremely expensive and negative experiences seem to be the norm. The cost isn't an issue if the quality of care is top notch, but that isn't always the case. Several of my friends stopped going there because of similar negative experiences. And anyone who knows me knows I'm not a complainer, so you know it was a bad situation.Read Less

We have two Boston Terriers and they have both gone to NAMC for services. The staff is always friendly and personable. They go above and beyond to make sure that our dogs needs are met. The front desk staff is always happy to help you when you walk in and want to get to know you are your pet. We feel like we have a great relationship with NAMC. Our female just had to have surgery for her luxating patella. Dr. Pretzler performed the surgery. He was amazing. It was very sad and hard for us to leave her in this situation. The staff made it as easy as they could. Our dog's situation was kind of unique and he did what he needed to to fix it correctly. He was very confident in his work and his techs, which was very comforting for us. He called us immediately after surgery to update us on how things went. He was very calm, easy to talk to, explained everything in detail, and reassured us that she would be in 24 hour care and that we could call anytime to check on her. When we picked her up today he drew pictures for us, to explain what he did. He showed us the exercises to do with her and was very gentle. He was very professional and down to earth. Our general doctor is Dr. Fry. She is incredible also. She is always willing to answer questions, calls to check in on our dogs, and takes wonderful care of them when we go for check ups. She is so gentle when give them their vaccinations and physicals. We have never had a bad experience at NAMC and will continue to come back!Read Less

I was not using NAMC as a primary vet and here's why... There are moments that really count. Life and Death. You want to be able to trust your doctors and believe they are doing the right thing for you and your pet. I brought my cat in due to being lethargic. The first thing they wanted to do was charge me $700 for an overnight hospitalization without actually knowing what the problem was. I should probably explain that I worked for another veterinary office but didnt think I needed to because I thought they would do right. There was no way I was going to flip them $700 with no real direction. No idea if he was suffering or if his condition was survivable. I requested a cbc/chem. They seemed a bit annoyed when they came to fetch him for blood draw. The results came back that his glucose had skyrocketed and he was in kidney failure with very guarded prognosis. If I hadnt had any idea- I wouldve put him through all that nonsense just to have him suffer and die. I have never been more disgusted in my life. People trust you to tell them the truth and give proper recommendations for them and their animals well being. I had him euthanized because it was the humane course of action. Your clinic was ready to hospitalize an animal that likely would've suffered and died within hours. Thankfully, my boy was not your victim but I pray for those that have been or will be. If you're looking for a veterinary clinic that genuinely cares and will provide proper recommendations and support please look elsewhere.Read Less

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!! Rushed my otherwise healthy 2 year old dog in on a Saturday night. It was obvious from the vet and the vet tech that they didn't want to be there. I described my dog's symptoms and the vet didn't do an exam or anything. She took one x-ray, declared my dog was ok and to follow up with my vet on Monday (day and a half later). I pleaded with the vet to examine my dog further because I knew he was critical and needed help now. When I asked about blood tests the vet sighed and said "ya, we don't really do that here. We are so expensive no one ever gets blood tests here. Wait until Monday at your vet." I was floored. The next day we ended up rushing my little dog to the other emergency vet in town where the staff quickly realized the severity of the situation and reacted immediately to try and help. My dog underwent an emergency blood transfusion to try and save his life. Tragically, his body was too weak, he never recovered and ended up dying. I have no idea if the horrible care at NAMC contributed to his death. I am sure the vet was negligent in her duty and attention to the situation. If my dog was diagnosed and treated 24 hours earlier, that could have made a difference. But we'll never know. We paid $400 and the only thing received was attitude from the vet and a dead dog. I came to namc when another vet miss diagnosed my malamute dog...Riley was my best friend and my everything, a lot of people don't know that Riley saved my life...battling depression When Riley came into my life saving me...helping me reverse my diabetes by making me walk ( and he walked me lol ) , he help me in my recovery from my work related accident, always there for me and me there for him, my best friend and so much more....Riley was a force in my life and I loved him for that, Riley taught me how to love again, still disabled but Riley was always there with a special love... Namc did so much for us both and more, I saw and watched the compassion they have for working with and help animals, Amy R. My new vet since coming to namc gave me faith back in vets, seeing how much she did and tried with Riley.....Amy correctly diagnosed Riley having 2 torn rear interior tendons in his knees....unable to walk or stand, and correctly diagnosed him with thyroid issues.....my old vet said arthritis in his rear knee 1 1/2 yr ago which he was wrong on when in fact Riley tore 1 rear interior tendon on his knee and Riley was carrying all his weight on his one good knee till it tore .....my old vet said hot spots and was treating him when again he was wrong and it was thyroid issues ....Riley was 4 years old and my best friend and everything to me...Amy R. Tried and gave me her best which I am thankful for.....but Riley I realize now was giving me everything he had and more since he tore his first rear knee and I was told it was arthritis....if I had known......I blame myself for not realizing the old vet is good for nothing more than vac shots and really sucked....I trusted and was let down....my heart is broken and I feel an emptiness with so much pain....Namc helped me and Riley both as he passed away in my arms at home peacefully together.......though I cried and haven't stopped since and don't know if the tears will ever stop....I couldn't have done what Riley needed without Amy R. I thank her even though I hurt......to say I miss Riley is a understatement, he was my everything and my world.....thank you namc......wish I would have came here in the first place instead of the vet who killed my best friend.......Read Less

I will never bring my cat here again! I scheduled an appointment for my cat to be groomed over a month ago. I dropped him off for his scheduled appointment at 9:45am. I call at 1:45pm to see if he is ready to be picked up. They said he just went back to be sedated. He is a very anxious cat and needs to be sedated to be groomed. So I ask what he has been doing for the last four hours? They said they got busy. Really, I don't appreciate my cat sitting in a cage for 4 hours around barking dogs at a place he hates. Makes my heart hurt! I have reserved the appointment over a month ago so they should have reserved that time for him. The last time he was groomed he had a lion cut and still had lots of knots in his hair that I had to cut out at home. Also, the last time he was sedated for his last grooming I asked for them to give him his shots while he was sedated and they said they forgot. It's just always been one thing after another. My first time there over the holiday week, 3 day boarding stay. If I go there again I want to see the actual kennel they go in just from stuff I've read on here. Also said they can give her a bath, I said "no with all her long hair it takes an hour and a half to comb out, blow dry, wash and trim. I'd rather do it myself when I get back home".... So no bath! It was mentioned they had about 90 dogs to wash...which I couldn't imagine them all going in a washer & dryer ,lol. And it can't be a good washing? And all that was on the bill and I didn't ask for it. I think they need to be more communicative when boarding on exactly what clients want. I disagreed on the original contract and they took it off the bill. So I got home and realize that she never did have a bath. Originally, I thought a large kennel is best, but when you have 50+ employees it must be a communication issue from one shift change to another is all I can think. Maybe a smaller place would be more consistant. I may try them one more time AND want to see the kennel where she's going behind the scene. Thanks Kayla and Alexis Read Less

I know that any medical professional's worst nightmare is a pet owner or patient who figures she already knows the diagnosis, however...I went to Nebraska Animal Medical Center when my little corgi's rear legs started going out on her, because they have a water therapy tank, but I should have waited until I had the diagnosis elsewhere.I had asked for a specialist in neurological issues.  And perhaps she was, but she was very young and very loud, and both I and my dog were NOT put at ease immediately.  My little dog is a snarling cur at the vets, particularly on the slippery steel tables.  Most every vet I went to wanted x-Rays, which makes sense, but with my pup, the added expense of putting her under to get them was a factor.  Anyway, this young loud vet insisted that my own diagnosis of Degenerative Myelopathy couldn't be correct because only German Shepherds got that.  All one has to do is get on Google to see this is not true. She thought it must be a pinched spinal situation though I protested that she didn't seem to have any pain.  She prescribed muscle relaxants and keeping her in a kennel for a month.  I reluctantly agreed, though she was a rescue, and couldn't handle small spaces. Just a day or so into the muscle relaxants, her back end went out entirely. I took her off the muscle relaxants and never went back. I've since learned that there is an easy genetic test for Degenerative Myelopathy available through the mail.  I also went to another vet in Lincoln who sent me to a wonderful specialist in Kansas City who got down on the floor with her and observed her walking around.  (See the review for Blue Pearl). Between all these, we found that it was DM.  She'll need a wheelchair, but she won't have pain or incontinence, and it likely will not kill her.  A month in a kennel probably would have.I may go back to Nebraska Animal Medical Center for the hydrotherapy, but not for any other reason.  Perhaps you'll have a better experience. I have two cats and a small dog (a cavalier). I moved to Lincoln from Texas, and my main concern was finding a good vet, my animals are my heart. I went in and saw Dr. Pretzer and was impressed at our first meeting, he did an exam of all three animals and things were fine. A year later, I took my pets in for their yearly exam and Dr. Pretzer stated that my dog had a heart murmer and needed to have an EKG and x rays. She also needed a dental cleaning. When I took her in for her dental cleaning, he called me and stated that because of her heart problem he was going to do the EKG, blood work up and xrays. I ended up paying over $600 for this. He called me after to follow up about the xrays stating that my dog had a very enlarged heart and that I should put her on medication. I was terrified and felt like I needed to prepare myself for my dog dying in the near future. I was sick for a week and heart broken. I moved to Omaha a month later. My dog was peeing on the floor in the middle of the night and I was concerned. I went to a new vet here. I needed the records and xrays from NAMC and had asked them a few days earlier to send them over. When I arrived at the new vet, the records were not there. It took them hours to send hte records, making the appointment basically pointless. Luckily I had a GREAT vet at Ralston Vet and she called stating that she had received the records and she wasn't sure why NAMC had told me my dog had an enlarged heart. She stated that the xrays were very unclear, that you could not tell the size of my dogs heart and there was absolutely no way to make a diagnosis based on the xrays NAMC took. I was infuriated that not only had I paid over $300 for these xrays, but that the staff there had told me that my dog had a severe heart problem! I am furious that they charged me for a service that was not completed to a point of being usable, and that I had spent months worried to death about my poor dog. Do not go to this vet. And certainly do not pay for xrays here. Read Less

**This review is for the dog daycare/boarding only as I have never used their vet services.**Dog parents beware. If you want a happy dog, this is not the place to take your little fur kid. Behind closed doors you don't see what really goes on. There are numerous small cages stacked just like the Humane Society full of dogs all the way to the ceiling and the dogs I saw looked sincerely miserable. My dog attended NAMC dog daycare for roughly a couple weeks before I realized how much torture he was going through. According to the front desk staff, he would be put in his cage between 15 minute play times. He got 2-3 play times a day. Being a new dog owner I thought this would be a good way to get him socialized slowly without overwhelming his system and giving him too much activity. Instead, every time I brought my dog in he shivered and didn't want to go in. When I picked him up he jumped into my arms and became very needy. The place to 'play' in the back of the building outdoors is very small covered in turf with no shade. There are a few people that go out and pick up after the dogs outside. I feel sorry for the dogs because they have to go out in any weather. 0 degrees? Yeah, then too. What about scorching hot 105 degree days? Yeah, how would that feel on your paws? What a joke. They should have an indoor play area as well. Not just outside. -----Update, it appears they added sun tents outside so the dogs have some shelter. That's good news for doggies. It wasn't until I started taking him to Camp Bow Wow around the corner that I realized how miserable my dog had been. Instead of being afraid to go in, he ran as fast as he could through the door. When I picked him up instead of getting a defeated and scared needy dog, he would be tired and secure. My biggest complaint even more than above mentioned issues is the fact that on two separate occasions I picked up my dog with vomit and feces on his body from him getting sick in his cage. I still feel horrible after what I did to him by leaving him there thinking it would socialize him in a safe way, instead he was traumatized by the experience.DOG PARENTS PLEASE DON'T BRING YOUR DOG HERE. This review is only about boarding-- I do not take my cats to the vets here. I ended up not needing to board my cats here for more than the day (I'd brought them for a longer stay, but my plans changed), but their time at NAMC went surprisingly well! The kitty that has been hissy and grumpy about being boarded in the past-- even for a small amount of time-- did so well here, I couldn't believe it! The staff was happy to let me help move the cats from their carriers to their boarding cages and then back again-- which is important to me, as I like to check out their boarding conditions and make sure they transition well. The cat boarding area doesn't have a window, but the design of their cages is really cool in that each cage has a little "room" for the litter box, so they won't scatter litter around their food, water, or bed.  Everyone I came into contact with really seemed to care about my cats. One woman asked if they liked a certain kind of treat, which I thought was sweet. It was nice to feel like cats didn't come second to dogs-- which is a feeling I've gotten from other boarding places. I also liked that they had me sign a release stating that if they couldn't reach me and one of the cats needed urgent medical attention, they could give it to him. It was comforting to know that they would be able to provide my cats with medical care if they needed it. As a side-note, they referred to me as my cats' "mom," which I thought was cute. ;) I would suggest that you allow extra time for dropping off your pets if you go there in the morning because it was super busy with all the dogs coming for daycare and grooming. I love this pet clinic! They are the total one-stop pet center. I take my dog here for her veterinary services, grooming, training, boarding and doggie day care. The staff is super caring and accommodating, they know my dog by name when she comes in. I was hesitant to go here at first as I heard they were more expensive, but I've found that to be the opposite, many services are cheaper or at least similar to other vets I've had in the past. They offer emergency service 24/7/365, I've only had to call in for an emergency once, but they were really responsive and made sure that my pet was well taken care of through the whole ordeal. If you need a new vet, I am big fans of both Dr. Frey and Dr. Pretzer, but the whole staff there really cares about pets. They take a wide variety of payments and work pet insurance companies.

Read Less

This is definitely where I will be taking my cats from now on. I had been taking my cat elsewhere mostly because they are really reasonably priced and I heard tremendous reviews. I had really high hopes but felt that the other vet was basically trying To rush me out without addressing a concern I had about my cat. I adopted another cat that needed a rabies vaccination but where I usually took my other cat didn't have anything open soon that worked with my work schedule. I called here on a limb because I saw they are open later and they were able to get me in that night. Everyone here was very professional and kind.

I feel as if I have given this place plenty of opportunities and after today I'm done. I will be finding a new vet! Read Less

My first time there over the holiday week, 3 day boarding stay. If I go there again I want to see the actual kennel they go in just from stuff I've read on here. I thought everyone was real nice on the phone and in person when checking in. I gave 2-3 food items to be given, no meds basic care. When I got home and unpacked my bag the treats were still in there and never given. The bill was much higher than I was quoted? They added on "one on one" because she's blind and maybe I didn't understand what they were doing?
