24Th Street Animal Clinic

Omaha, Nebraska
General Info
24Th Street Animal Clinic in Omaha continues to have a positive impact on the lives of pet owners. Pet owners in Omaha continuously receive the support and guidance they need from 24th Street Animal Clinic to provide the best possible care for their pets at every stage of life. Pet owners begin their veterinary consultations by telling the stories of how their animals do not move and eat well. They constantly scratch themselves and behave strangely. Veterinarians begin the examination by looking for body weight changes, checking joint movement, oral health, respiratory rhythm and coat and skin condition together with behavior changes. All of this data is documented and discussed with the pet owners so that they can differentiate what is normal for their pets, which things are new, and which things need to be monitored or followed up on. The 24th Street Animal Clinic offers various preventative services, such as vaccinations and lab tests, in addition to dental cleanings, dietary planning, and parasite control. It also provides chronic care support for conditions including allergies, arthritis, and metabolic illnesses. The goals of veterinary visits are to build on the prior year’s results and set an agenda for the next year, which is particularly important as a pet ages. The care options offered by a veterinarian will depend on the pet’s breed and environment, so it may be necessary to make certain lifestyle adjustments from time to time. This could include ensuring that the home is adequately prepared for new seasonal requirements and adapting to any behavior changes that might occur as your dog matures. Owners leave with a detailed plan outlining what to monitor and when to return, in addition to other important information such as how to access records or seek medication advice. Families with busy schedules, senior pets, and several animals also have the option of requesting pacing adjustments, telemedicine (when available), and logs to be organized between visits. 24th Street Animal Clinic provides reliable services to Omaha and Nebraska clients by consistently addressing everything, from minor changes to significant life stages. Some of the popular services offered at this facility include vaccinations, oncology and diagnostics, dental care, prescription medication, hospice/palliative care, puppy or kitten care and wellness, grooming services, behavioral counseling, nutritional counseling programs as well as livestock/farm animal veterinary assistance which focuses on personalized attention to patients’ needs while delivering high-quality professional expertise. Whether it is a wellness plan or the management of intricate health conditions, pet owners have complete confidence in the services they receive. The team is committed to constant growth alongside the local community and pets throughout Omaha and the United States.

If I could give them a negative number I would. We are first time fur parents and I was looking for a near by vet with good ratings and this one fit the bill. The initial call to make an appointment went well. The lady asked me lots of questions about my puppy and I felt good about my choice. Fast forward to the appointment and the only positive thing to come out of that was meeting Andi. She is an excellent Vet Tech. She talked with my daughter and me about whatever concerns we had and was an all around lovely person. Moving on to the rest of the staff though and we didn't get the same warm fuzzy feeling. The Vet, Dr. White came into the room and basically checked Mega over asked us one question then stuck him with a needle and bounced up out the room (cold). Andi told us if we had in concerns or questions to call. Saturday night Mega starts to have blood in his poop and late that night he was throwing up. I called the vet first thing Sunday morning and told the lady on the phone what was going on. She said someone would get back to me soon on what we should do. Four hours later and no one has called us so I call back. The lady on the phone tells me how busy they are and that she would run back to talk to the Dr and I'm like cool. She comes back to the phone and says the Dr says to take him to an animal ER. So now i'm totally shocked by this response and I say okay and we end the call. My wife who was upset when I relayed the msg decides to call back. Her and someone named Laurie get into a shouting match about me not asking for an appointment and Laurie hangs up the phone on her.....Yeah you read that right she hung up the phone. First time pet parents, calling the vet for help, she hangs up the phone.... Let that sink in and really think about if this is someplace you want to leave your fur baby. They come off cold and very none caring and I will never step foot in there again with my dog. Read Less

I've been coming to this vet with my animals from day one. My parents took all of our family pets to this vet. They've always been fair and decent. So you can't imagine my surprise when I called today to make an appointment for my new pup and the receptionist was rude! I had to tell her three different times I was bringing in my DOG. Not cat, and at the end of the call instead of saying bye or anything resembling manners she hung up on me. I'm so truly disappointed. I've never been treated so rudely by them. I called back and tried to talk to someone about it and got "so what do you want?" I said how about being treated politely? Nothing. So I cancelled my appointment. I'll take my business else where. Too bad I really use to like this place. Must be going down hill. Read Less

Last night I took my beautiful 3 year old tortoiseshell cat to 24th Street on the recommendation of a coworker. We moved to Omaha a year ago and had a really unfortunate experience with the first vet we tried, who handled our anxious and strong-willed cat really roughly, getting her upset and making her fight and cry during a basic exam. I was determined to find a new vet who we could establish a relationship with who might be gentler. Going to the vet is a stressful experience for cats and owners alike, but simple things like not holding the cat by the scruff can go a long way. Our last vet simply would not agree to hold her any other way, citing 'safety reasons', and as a result it was always a traumatizing experience for our cat who is totally healthy - I could only imagine how awful it would be like if she was sick or hurting.Fortunately, we found 24th Street Animal Clinic. The vets and techs we met with were all so kind and gentle. They have certificates and posters on the walls boasting about being a cat-friendly practice. They were patient with her as she kept walking off the scale. They offered her cat treats and put down a soft fleece blanket on the exam table when she was being looked at. I went ahead and asked them not to hold her by the scruff and they told me they don't do that, period, as part of their "Fear-Free" approach to cats. They answered all my questions and went out of their way to explain everything to me including all the rare side effects of the shot and what to look for/what to do.I believe the primary vet and tech we had last night were Dr. White and Liz, but all the staff were very kind. The receptionists apologized for our wait (it was only a few minutes, and we were way early for our appointment anyway) and got our paperwork squared away quickly and efficiently. The only cautionary tale I would offer is that the rooms are open-air at the top - in other words, a tall wall between every exam room, so you can't see but you can hear what's happening next door. My cat is not worried or skittish enough for this to be a bother, but more anxious cats might have trouble with the sounds of dogs and other cats so close by.The basic checkup, rabies booster shot, and 6 months of heartworm and flea prevention (Revolution had a promo going where we got two months free, for a total of 8) cost me $144. Super affordable and extremely high quality care means we will definitely be back. Read Less

I needed to take in Spock (my Russian Blue) for a probable UTI.  They were able to get me a next-day appointment.  Dr. White took a conservative approach in keeping Spock overnight in order to collect a urine sample, rather than performing an invasive (and probably painful) catheterization. Spock also had a mass on his scalp, and Dr. White performed an aspiration and cytology study. (Fortunately, a benign mass.)  Needless to say, I was worried about the bill for a ~24 hr stay with all of the above procedures. This was an unnecessary worry. The antibiotics for the UTI, treatment for an ear yeast infection (take-home), pain medicine, and the cytology study -- and the bill was still well under $200.This clinic takes its commitment to cats very seriously.  The exam rooms are quiet, the staff is very cat-friendly, and there are cats available for adoption in the lobby. I previously took my cats to a Doc that primarily serves large animals out in Elkhorn due to cost, but never felt like I had adequate post-care information. 24th Street is even MORE affordable.Spock and Gambit (his little brother) have a new vet for life!Take your four-legged friends here, and you will not be disappointed! So far, the Rock's visits here have thankfully been limited only to routine checkups and vaccinations.  That said, we'll be returning for any other veterinary needs should they (hopefully not) arise.  I've been so impressed with the staff here.  The receptionists, the techs, and the doctors have all been fantastic.  My questions and concerns have always been answered and addressed thoroughly, and I appreciated the thank-you notes and appointment reminders I've received in the mail.  My puppy actually gets excited about going here, so I think that's the best endorsement I can give!  We'll see if he still feels that way after he gets neutered. The only downside I can see isn't major enough for me to knock off a star: The waiting area is a bit small.  Rocky gets waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay excited about meeting new people and animals, and though I try my best, it's pretty easy for him to jump at others because there's not really a good spot to isolate him.  Additionally, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the exam rooms are open at the top, so you can hear what's happening everywhere.  I can definitely see how that could be stressful for pets who are anxious or frightened. I was recommended to this clinic by a friend, and it certainly delivers for pet care. My experience was with routine care and vaccinations. I called to make the appointment, and being a new pet owner naturally I was really clueless on what my new pet needed at far as all the options with routine pet meds these days (flea tick heartworm). I also had a LOT of questions and wanted to be pricedout for the vaccines he needed to "shop around". The tech and staff spent 30 mins on the phone addressing my worries and concerns and questions without hesitation and with enthusiasm. On the day of the visit, everything went smoothly and they were great with handling my pup and taking care of his needs. I found everyone extremely friendly and will be back for more routine visits and shots soon. Also, I paid what they quoted me, no upsale at the visit or hidden fees. Read Less

I received a very expensive quotation for my dog's dental cleaning on my previous vet - which is very good, and close to my home, but I can not afford.  I checked reviews online and came across the 24th St. A lady on the phone gave me a pre evaluation based on the breed, size and age of my dog - much less. As I had read already they were reliable and efficient, I took my dog to be examined and yesterday he had his dental.  I  had to leave the pet in the morning - the transit was awful but the result was worth.  Got the dog in the evening, for they make your pet stay for the day, just to make sure he is alright.  He was a little sleepy but nothing concerning. He was able to eat (not much, as the vet recommended), drink, and do his "things" without problem. His teeth are cleaner and whiter than mine, maybe I should ask them to do mine, too :D  Very happy with the result.  Definitely the trip to downtown was worth.  I will keep them as my dog's vet for as long they treat my dog and I well for an honest price. Amidst the bevy of locations that you could take your animal here in the Metro, 24th St Animal Clinic stands at the pinnacle. I have had numerous animals (cats, rats, dogs, frogs,) that have had the need for medical care and have tried many other places. I have had one instance in Lincoln that I had to drive up to Harvey Oaks and was willing to go all the way to Lawrence, Kansas for K-State's abilities. they all pale in sight of Dr Dobson and here crew. The front desk ladies are usually kind and caring and remember my pets' needs and appointments. They don't try to upsell food or meds to us and I leave feeling that my little guys got the best available care. There have been times where we had to have 'end of life' services and although I couldn't make the drive, Dr Dobson came to us in our time of need. I know that they truly care about the well being of your 'kids' as some of you may refer to them as. My companions always get the best care and I thank 24th St. for being there. Fair prices and honest caring. A well deserved rapport is always helpful, too. Read Less

I moved to Omaha a little over a year and a half ago and was pleased to find a clinic so close to our new home but had to change my mind after bringing my 4 cats here several times. I should mention that I am a veterinary technician so I have experience in this area and I have never been so dissatisfied with a clinic. There are several things that changed my mind about this clinic and I really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. First of all, the clinic set up is really odd. The rooms are separate by walls but are open close to the ceiling. You can hear everything going on around the clinic and all the dogs barking which is NOT a good set up for cats. Second, every time I have been there I have had a long wait time, 15 minutes was the shortest but I have waited up to an hour when I've made an appointment in advance. Now I understand that sometimes veterinarians get behind and sometimes there are emergencies but having a clinic be constantly behind indicates really poor time management. Third, on one of the occasions I was waiting to see the doctor the receptionists started complaining and bad mouthing one of their doctors right in front of my husband and myself. I understand that sometimes you need to blow of stream but DO NOT do it in front of customers. The final straw however was when I brought my cat in after he was having nasty diarrhea for a couple of days, he was lethargic and dehydrated. I was really worried about him. The doctor there told me that he just needed to work it out of his system and that they usually don't suggest any medication or tests for these cases. I asked if he would at least run a fecal just to make sure but he told me he didn't recommend it. So I took my kitty home but had great misgivings about it. Later that evening I found him laying flat out and for a moment feared he was dead but luckily he wasn't. I rushed him to the emergency clinic where they discovered (by doing a fecal) that he had a massive coccidia infection and he was severely dehydrated. He was put on medication and IV fluids overnight and then I continued to give fluids under the skin daily for a week. Without the emergency clinic he would have died. I will never go back to 24th Street.I highly recommend avoiding this clinic! Read Less

The building is beautiful and extremely clean. When my dog got sick from eating the crotch out of too many underwears (yea, i know.)  they took extremely good care of her - calling me twice a day and giving me progress reports on her condition. 24Th Street Animal Clinic

Omaha, Nebraska
(41)

Read Less

When I lived out west and wanted to get my dog spayed I was distraught at the prices I was being quoted - 24th St. Animal gave me a reasonable (and low) quote. The building is beautiful and extremely clean. When my dog got sick from eating the crotch out of too many underwears (yea, i know.)  they took extremely good care of her - calling me twice a day and giving me progress reports on her condition. They even called me a couple of times once I got my dog home to continue checking on her. Awesome service, great vets, caring people! Wouldn't take my dog anywhere else! Read Less
