My cat had a seizure late Saturday night and I was able to be seen on Sunday afternoon- and while the wait time was quite long- and even though it was after closing time by the time the vet was able to see my cat - he spent a great deal of time explaining things to me and gave me quite a few options for follow-up care. Never once did I feel rushed out of the appointment even though he had been so busy and it was after closing time (please note I was there well before closing for an Urgent Care appointment and they tried to fit me in the best that they could but this is one very busy office!) I just had the BEST experience with American Animal Hospital! After growing increasingly displeased with our former vet, I decided to take our dog in to American Animal Hospital with a reoccurring issue. Not only did he get great care, they helped us with preventative care! The front staff was courteous and friendly. The facility is very clean. I had THE best experience at American Animal Hospital! We adopted our Piper about a month ago, and she fell very ill, I called them and told them I needed her to be seen ASAP, as she was unable to control her bowels, they got me in right away (had to pay a small fee for unscheduled appointment) and as soon as I got there they got us in an exam room and our vet tech, Keyana (I think), was so great, I cried to her as soon as I saw her because I was so scared for my baby, Piper ...kept having bowel movements all over the exam room and she was so understanding and kind and cleaned it up right away. Even mopped it brought in a candle because I was gagging about the smell. Then we saw Dr. Porter and she was also amazing. She answered all of our questions and they assured us that Piper would be okay. Turns out she has Giardia Piper is my first dog and it was kind of scary being responsible for a puppy when they’re sick like that, but the girls here made me feel confident that they knew what they were doing and we are totally going back to them as our regular vet! There is separate waiting areas for both dogs and cats. The receptionists are friendly and there is always enough there to ensure that you don't have to wait to check in or check out. The doctors and technicians really know how to talk to the animals to keep them calm too, which is great when you have an overprotective dog! Read Less

When this place was small you got awesome care for your pet. Then they grew and built a new faculty. Like that grow sometimes you lost in the shuffle. My dog was problems and I was looking her symptoms on line and it seemed like she had diabetes. I took her in and the said the same thing. They took blood and urine samples and said they would call me the next day. I waited and no call so I called them.. I was told they had the wrong number and my vet wasn't there. I was told I needed to give her insulin injections and what pharmacy did I want it called into. I told them and gave them the number. When I picked the RX up there were no directions. The cost was158.60. The next day the vet called now this was 2 days after being there and still never got a straight answer so I was giving her .5 of insulin and only one injection. That was way too much and not enough. It was supposed to be 3units twice a day and I had to have another vet tell me after he saw her. Insulin there was 50.00 that was a third of what I was paying. She's doing good now but I could of killed her. We no longer go to this place anymore. It's sad after going there for so long. Read Less

I had a very sick dog. I had already taken him to urgent care but he showed no improvement. I wanted a second opinion but no one would get me in not even our regular vet. Finally the wonderful people here allowed us to come in a couple of hours before closing and stayed after closing to run additional tests. We were not even clients. I have no words to describe the love and compassion Dr Jesske has provided us over the last 12 years. I love my dogs and he does too. Our appointments are frequently done on the floor of an exam room with dogs on our laps. On more than one occasion I’ve cried about my dog’s condition and Dr Jesske has been right there with me, never making us feel rushed or pressured to do anything. Our treatment plan has always been to keep our dogs happy and comfortable and the staff at American Animal Hospital make that their priority too. On a recent visit my fluffy cermudgeon of a 13 year old dog walked into the back treatment room and I overheard a tech gasp “oh my gosh, I love that dog!!!” And that is just a small part of why I love these people. Last week our dog Rocky got sick and was not getting any better. We were heart broken and made the difficult decision to let him go to a better place. Dr. Jesske showed so much compassion and sympathy as well as the entire staff. This was our third this year and he was unexpected. Today when arriving home we received two roses with a great sympathy note along with foot prints from Rocky earlier this week. We love AAH. We've been going to them for the last 9 years and they have always been amazing to our animals and us. Dr. Jesske is our primary vet but we happily go to any of the staff if he is not available. The quality of care we receive from the whole staff is above and beyond what we could have expected. We've been a walk in quite a few times with big clumsy dogs and are always taken care of. They always walk through all the options with us and answer any questions we have even if I have them several days later and call in. I would recommend them to anyone needing care for their animals. Our family has bringing our pets here for years, originally at the recommendation of my sister-in-law.  This is by far a 5 star vet.  I can honestly say that I feel every single person who works here really cares about the animals who come through their doors.  The entire staff has always been very nice and accommodating.  We have brought pets in for their first appointment and their last :( and everything from checkups to what turned out to be emergency surgery.  We had a dog with epilepsy that American Animal Hospital helped treat for years so we speak from experience that these guys know what they are doing!  The latest recent example was after our couple month old puppy threw up a couple times at home and then was acting somewhat lethargic.  My wife luckily decided to take her in to get checked out.  The vet was able to diagnose that our pups small intestine had slid inside her large requiring emergency surgery.  Another 24 hours and she would have died.  On top of that, the vet who performed the surgery actually brought our pup home with home overnight instead of having us take her to another overnight 'emergency vet' at no additional cost to us.TL;DR - Take your pets here, they are simply the best! I can't praise all the staff at American Animal Hospital enough. Everyone there is so kind and friendly, I feel like I am back in my small town. I have many animals, who have all been seen there for either check-ups, emergencies, and other various conditions (hip problems, severe allergies, bladder stones, etc...). I have seen every doctor at this facility, and I haven't been disappointed by any of them. I have 2 pitbulls, who most individuals are afraid of (even though they are nice). Before moving to Omaha, I was accustomed to veterinary staff putting muzzles on them before they would treat them. NOT ONCE has the veterinary staff at American Animal Hospital asked to put a muzzle on them. As a pit owner, I can't tell you how good that makes me feel. I have a cat that has to have special food (science diet C/D) because of her bladder stones, this food is not cheap, but I have done my research on the best place to purchase this food, and the lowest price is at American Animal Hospital (by at least 4 dollars). They do their best to help you save money (coupons, loyalty food program, etc..) I have never felt that they have charged me too much, for any service or appointment there. I truly can't praise this place enough, I have been coming here for 5 years and I have never been disappointed. I trust American Animal Hospital to provide to best care for my babies. Dr. Jesske could not be kind enough and extremely professional. Dr. Kroeger is the one who needs to bow out of this clinic. He seems to have been absent the day respect was taught in Vet School. He has absolutely no respect toward his colleagues, his staff nor his patients. Promises to show up on his day off, wasn't our idea was his. Dropped our pet off at 8:00 and at 12:30 finally receive a call it is his day off not coming in to exam her, this exam was critical. Good thing he is not a farmer, no little piggies, can't feed you today my day off, or as a teacher sorry children it is my day off, we can't go on that field trip today. Really, he should not make appointments/promises he probably never intended to keep. The office staff are wonderful as is Dr. Jesske and the other vets. Too bad one bad apple can spoil the bunch. The staff at American Animal Hospital are the most amazing and caring people I have ever met in a place of business. Dr. Terri Jack has talked to me multiple times on the phone and in visits to aah about our 12 year old beagles diet and several skin allergies she has had. Dr. Jack is very patient and extremely knowledgable and our old pup hasn't had any skin problems for quite some time now. Recently we adopted a puppy from the humane society that has a few minor health problems in which she has been very determined to treat. She always has a plan and always makes problems that I think are "giant" seem simple and not such a big deal. I can't thank Dr. Jack and the rest of the staff at aah enough for always showing compassion and genuinely caring about our doggies. Enjoy taking my dog Apollo to see Dr. Jack we always are on little runs and stop in just to get weighed when I first got Apollo he was a little too skinny but I made sure to beef him up a lot with the help of Dr. Jack feeding him lots of protein and with our exercises he's doing great! Read Less

I am very saddened to see that lack of respect to confidentiality shown in these review responses by American Animal Hospital. I had been to one urgent visit at this vet and was very excited at the possibility of changing to this clinic. But after reading the responses to the negative reviews, my jaw dropped at the lack of professionalism. Sometimes you just have to expect a negative response to a grieving pet parent. But to divulge such specific information is uncalled for. There was a much more professional response to both of your negative review responses. Shame on who ever wrote these post. This place is terrible. I took my sick cat who I loved very much to get answers. They did blood work and didn't give me the results. The vet kept giving me false hope because she knew by his blood work that he was dying. All she wanted was more money from us. We spent over 600 dollars trying to save him. I finally took him home and asked for the blood work and I did some research and found out for myself that he was dying. This place is so horrible I would never take any of my animals there.Read Less

I have used this vet for over 20 years and have my favorite now Dr Knott, but I have been comfortable using any of the other vets, if need be. I have always gotten excellent care and always feel that staff and vets genuinely care for my pets life. One of the vets here discovered my dog that I Took in for a small limp actually had osteosarcoma cancer in his lower leg and referred me to an excellent surgeon who did biopsy to confirm and then he had to have leg removed at shoulder. She gave him 6-8 mths to live and am happy to say now it has been 1 1/2 yrs now and he is old but energetic and can go on short walks, and run if he wants, Thanks to Dr E for that. Still great vet for my animals and will always go here.Read Less

There are not enough positive things to say about the staff and Dr. Jesske, the level of care, compassion and empathy are above and beyond. When our Sophie ducked out of her collar in the parking lot at AAH, the response was immediate - staff out looking for her, a post on the website, comfort box placed outside for shelter and food. During the 4 1/2 day ordeal the staff continued to search for her and check on us. The posting on AAH website lead to information leading us to her location. We tracked her for hours. Dr. J called me to see if we had seen her, when I said I was looking right at her, staff troops, including Dr J came to our rescue and help us capture her. We could not have done it without them. AAH has provided exceptional care to our previous pets. We would not take our animals anywhere else. Read Less

We've been taking our Pug here since we moved to Omaha a few years ago. We've seen a few different doctor's, and they've all been good. Dr. Knot is our favorite. I never feel like she's rushing us and I trust her to only recommend procedures our dog really needs. She even gets down on the floor to examine our dog because he's more comfortable that way.
