My visit to the Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital on West Maple was,as always, awesome. Our dog is treated like an old friend every time we go. They are very thorough before they tell you what they think the problem is. The Drs have taken such time and care with Phoebe. She has chronic urinary tract infections and ear problems. They are always trying to figure out what to do to make it stop for good or at least stretch the time between maladys. Always friendly and warm. I have been very thankful of every person that has taken care of my dog while taking her there for her fractured leg until today. An employee called the Humanes society on me claiming very false accusations of her well being and that she wasn't being taken care of. This insulted me and my family more than enough to pull all of our 6 dogs out of that vet. It took be my surprise when I was called and informed that a home visit was going to be made to examine the well being of m...y dog and her living conditions. I have spent a fortune to try to heal her fractured leg just to be accused of mistreating my dog and now having to start her healing process all over again with a new vet. Her ACTUAL doctor confirmed with me when I went to pick her up from there today that there was no other injuries besides her fracture and that she knows my dog is very well taken care of. This was insulting and uncalled for. If your employees are not well aware of what a proper injury is ( the employing stating there was multiple other injuries on my dog ) then they should not be allowed to give medical advice. Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital has been nothing short of amazing for our little family. We’ve now had three cats treated at the various locations. The service we and our fur babies have received has been incredible. We won't go anywhere else with our pets and you shouldn't either. With Ramesses, as soon as we noticed something was wrong with his eye they were able to get us in within a few hours on a Saturday morning. The veterinarians gave exemplary service to figure out wit...h was wrong with our senior cat. Unfortunately he did cross over the rainbow road earlier this year and Gentle Doctor truly went the extra mile for us to make sure we were comfortable with the process. When our cat Apollo was throwing up, they got us in right away. Luckily nothing too major was wrong, he was trying to eat carpet. They even asked about him today when I brought in our new kitten for her first checkup. Now with our newest kitten, Artemis, they were all friendly with our timid little girl. The techs and the veterinarian answered our questions about what shots she would still need and how we should introduce the cats; they were just so excited to meet her. While the doctor was very nice and the facility is clean and beautiful, my dog was VERY nervous there. We went back to our old vet (a much further drive from our new home) where he is much more comfortable. I am not sure why he had such an adverse reaction...the care he received was just fine. My dog had always received great care there. The vet techs are amazing. I brought my big guy in for a condition called nasal arteritis which is common in Saint Bernards. The vet was not willing to meet me halfway with the recommended treatment and instead scared me into thinking it was probably cancer. I have a wonderful knowledgeable Saint Bernard group on Facebook who told me the recommended treatment he needed. The vet and vet tech pretty much told me her degree trumped everybody else's knowledge about this disease. She sent me home with 2 syringes of epinephrine which doesn't fix the main issue. I finally took my dog to a new vet who agreed with the diagnosis of nasal arteritis. Told me a biopsy could lead him to bleed out. Have me the proper medication treatment and he's doing so much better. I know vets have the degree but we live in the age of social media where we can research what our animals need. I'm absolutely blessed that I found this new vet who knew right away what my dog had without needing an unnecessary biopsy! Gentle Doctors are good for regular checkups but if your animals have any type of disease, be wary because they sometimes have the notion that their degree means more than what we learn on our own research!Read Less

All of the staff is amazing to my 2 pitties! The boys love coming to see all of the ladies there and the ladies are always quick to return all the love and kisses my boys love to give. They never make me feel slighted because my fur babies are a bully breed and they are always open, honest, ethical and helpful. They have never tried to upsell me on anything and if there are alternatives or at home things I can do to be preventative in my maintenance, they always share that information openly and honestly. Took my dog to Gentle Doctor for an exam to discuss a teeth cleaning and possibly a few extractions. They charged me $200 for that exam and the "pre cleaning blood work" that was "highly recommended". I asked for a quote before I scheduled the cleaning. Got the official quote the next day... $1,005.13. What the?! Took him to another vet, who is very reputable, and the same exact quote was $375.00. Will NEVER go back to Gentle Doctor. Their main, and possibly only focus, is on "up-selling" you and apparently charging upwards of double for the exact procedure you could get somewhere else. This isn't about the money, I would pay endless amounts, if it's what my dog needed. It's about the pure robbery. The doctor was very nice, however, not $600+ worth of nice. Ridiculous. Read Less

We take our Timneh Grey parrot in every few months to have her beak and nails trimmed. I am always impressed by the fact that they get us in first thing in the morning, so I don't have to keep her in a carrier for very long. They are very quick with the trims, and she never looks stressed out when she is returned to us! And the office is very clean (looking and smelling). Read Less

I was cautious given the negative reviews on Yelp but overall I've been pleased with the service at Gentle Doctor. I suppose a lot of it is finding the right veterinarian. Just like dozens of other places (dentists, hair stylists, etc) a bit part of your experience is the vet him or herself. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes in the waiting room for my appointment. They always greet both of us (me and my pup) by name. There's a tech that escorts you back to the exam room and takes down some information. These folks vary in personality like anyone else, so I've definitely got a preference for some over others. The rooms are comfortable as well as useful. My veterinarian has a very caring personality. She truly seems to care about my dog and wants him to grow up well. She is gentle while giving vaccinations but firm when she needs to be. Unfortunately, she's only working one day a week now which limits flexibility. Great boarding place!After a horrid experience at Tully's 3 years ago, I had to find a place where I could leave my dog for long time boarding.  I use another - great - place  for short time where the dogs can be out and play but I prefer Gentle Doctor for long time boarding for it is a vet clinic and I believe they will pick up faster any health issue that may happen.Said that, only complaint is that they do not give feed back as often as I'd like, I have to contact and get info...  but I understand it is a very busy place.The most important thing for me is that all the time I come back, my dog looks health - a little thinner cause he is a bad eater - manipulative - spoiled - guy and can not live only on dry food.  Never had any problem after getting him from their boarding and he is not crazily desperate to leave the place, what means something.I will keep coming back :)As you guessed, never used them as vets.  Dog is health, still in another clinic for vaccines, so far. But they have a nice place, polite attendants, that I could see.Good job, guys, just, please give more feedback for the boarding dog's owners and you will get a 5 star review from my side. Read Less

They have been great when our pets have been seriously ill. Jasper, our cat was treated for a blocked urethra a few years ago, our dachshund Nigel had a bladder infection, and our boxer Vinnie had pancreatitis last summer. All were treated promptly and professionally, The staff cares about the pets in their care and they receive plenty of TLC as well as the proper medical care. I wish there were ten stars, because Gentle Doctor is, without question, the best medical facility I have ever taken my dogs.I have had Standard Poodles for 45 years, and have seen a few vets in my day. Dr. Bashara and his staff have NEVER disappointed me...or ever cause me to worry.My pup, Stoli, was spayed yesterday.  I took her in at 7:15 a.m. and picked her up at 4:00 p.m.  I was texted by Dr. Bashara at 6:00 p.m. and at  10:00 p.m. inquiring how Stoli was doing. Two years ago I had an organ transplant at Mayo Clinic.  I got a more inclusive run-down on what was going to happen during Stoli's day at the vet...than I got from Mayo prior to my transplant.For those people who wrote a negative YELP, I have to question your complaints.  It is beyond me to believe some of the one star reviews.No one loves their dogs more than me...and Gentle Doctor is the ONLY place I would trust my pups.  (And..the grooming end of the practice does a phenomenal job of keeping my dogs perfectly groomed!)No one else is even close to the level of service given at Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital.LJK Read Less

Dr. Nickerson and his staff were amazing. We had recently adopted a greyhound who became very sick during the night. They took us in a new patients and wasted no time that morning getting our dog help. Dr. Nickerson and his staff went above and beyond providing one-on-one round the clock care for our dog (who also had separation anxiety) and took extra steps to find a diagnosis for our pet, as his was truly an unusual case. The office normally closes at 6 and Dr. Nickerson was supposed to leave at 5, however, they stayed with us until after 7pm until all was said and done. I highly recommend Dr. Nickerson and his staff. My little Frankie has been visiting way too often these days, and yesterday we had to put him on meds again. Dr. Karen Stokes thanked me for giving my rescue pugs a better life.
