Vca Midwest Veterinary Referral And Emergency Center

Omaha, Nebraska
General Info
The Vca Midwest Veterinary Referral And Emergency Center in Omaha interprets pet behavior as a linguistic system expressed through tail positions, stillness, sound patterns, and pacing movements for Nebraska households. The initiation of examinations emerges not from tactile interaction but through focused cognitive engagement. Staff members scrutinize subtle animal actions such as eye contact initiation breathing patterns in response to voices and movement tendencies toward or away from motion. Care then unfolds in parts. The examination of a pet's skin, coat, and joints relies on the animal's anchoring positions combined with its leaning behavior and stiffening actions. Teeth inspections and heart rhythm checks along with abdominal scans proceed upon the emergence of trust indicators. Simultaneously, pet owners deliver background information about alterations in their everyday patterns along with the emergence of sounds that trigger their pets' reactions and shifts in walking or feeding schedules. Vca Midwest Veterinary Referral And Emergency Center provides a full spectrum of services including early-life exams and diagnostics along with energy balance strategies and oral health planning while also offering age-related joint tracking and illness-specific mapping. The temporal parameters differ according to behavioral patterns. Certain appointments progress rapidly because clear consent signals emerge. The progression of some phases occurs at a sluggish pace which allows the animal to understand each step. Spaces designed for pet recalibration exist as quiet areas and pause zones before they proceed. Household translation becomes the central focus of post-visit care. The elements to watch during sleep periods along with methods for restarting daily habits require attention while determining the appropriate moments to detect subtle signals such as family withdrawal, appetite reduction, and space protection behaviors. It is recommended that owners monitor temporal patterns alongside symptomatic manifestations. At what time does restlessness begin to manifest? At what time during the day do hesitations reach their highest frequency? Vca Midwest Veterinary Referral And Emergency Center assists families throughout Omaha and nearby Nebraska areas by recognizing pet behavior as a living signal which animals present through everyday pauses nudges and shifts rather than during crises.

We are glad we brought our Havapoo in to be seen. The vet tech and the vet were gentle, concerned and informative. Our dog had been seen by another vet earlier in the day who had started the right treatment, but didn't go far enough (but to his credit, he squeezed her exam into a very busy day). She also had a secondary issue and was in pain, both of which were addressed by Dr. Meyer. I wish we had known about this place when our Havana Brown cat experienced a life threatening episode. It's good to know there is help available 24/7 for our fur babies. Read Less

My dog suddenly started throwing up. A lot after having the squirts. I talked my mother into getting him to the vets in a Sat evening. This was literally the only one open. We were showed straight to a room when we got there. And ended up waiting an hour before the vet tech came to the room. We explained that two hours ago he had thrown up literally everything. She said that the get would be in shortly. Another half hour the dog desperate for water my mother had had enough. I took the dog out to use the bathroom again and she told them we were leaving. One of the women at the desk was flustered the other didn't seem to care just saying "ok". From an emergency vet clinic waiting an hour and a half and still not getting seen by a vet is completely unacceptable. Read Less

FAIRLY PRICED SERVICES AND COMPASSIONATE STAFF: The whole team was very patient, compassionate, kind, and professional through my whole experience. I knew my 10-year-old Maine Coon was in good hands with people who cared about him and were passionate about helping animals. From the first time I called seeing if I should take him in to my follow up calls with my concerns during his recovery at home, it was an excellent experience. I was kept informed (about what was being done, what to expect, diagnosis, and potential cost) at each step of the process. I had made myself nervous reading the negative reviews, but I didn't encounter any issues mentioned regarding focusing solely on money and/or their lack of compassion. Like I said, I was kept informed and asked for my consent. THIS IS IMPORTANT: Most of the reviews that are negative talk about the cost. While yes, this was an unexpected and not-inexpensive dip into my finances, I feel it was worth it 100%. My cat needed help and they were the only local facility open at 2am. I knew it was going to cost me to take him in. I'd compare it to a person going to the emergency room rather than wait to see their primary care doctor; all without insurance. A facility this size costs money to operate and maintain. The equipment needed to diagnose my pet costs money to operate and maintain. The drugs used cost money. The people who were there at 2am to help when one else was deserve to be paid fair wages for their work. With all of that in perspective, the overall cost for my pet's wellbeing and my peace of mind were all worth it. I WAS TREATED FAIRLY AND MY PET WAS CARED FOR. There was no price gouging or taking advantage of a desperate client with no other options. Again, I was informed and they sought consent each step of the way. It's not a free clinic and they never advertise themselves as such. They are 100% honest the whole time. Frankly, to expect them to continue to provide their level of care and expertise without having to pay for it is, to be blunt, pretty entitled and naive. In an emergency, I will absolutely return. They saved my cat when my local vet was talking euthanasia. If you have a challenging or mysterious illness on your hands, do not mess around - you want this team caring for your baby, they are the gold standard. In addition to being medically expert they are so caring and wonderful to interact with! The 24 hour access is a real thing: when my kitty was in the hospital they would text me pictures of him in the middle of the night to keep me updated. After he went home I continued to call them for advice and they were always super helpful at no additional charge. Everyone from the reception staff to the technicians to the doctors are fantastic. We are big dog lovers and would normally take our dogs to our regular Vet but today is a Sunday and I heard this place was good. I was very concerned out our Lab and frantic when I arrived. They were extremely busy (one of those days) and the receptionists were so friendly and communicated w/ me through my wait. Once we saw the tech and then the Dr., they were both very thorough. The Vet was patient w/ me and explained what may need to be done and left it in my hands. I chose to wait after they gave her a couple shots and take her home. She was extremely stressed being in a new place. But, they are 24/7 and I can go back tonight if I need to. They were respectful of my decision and I felt reassured. Yes, emergency Vets are much more expensive but, so are Emergency Rooms for humans. I'm glad we have this place in Omaha. Read Less

Very disappointed with the lack of follow through with and the lack of empathy from this business. After being billed over $2300 for care, diagnostics and an overnight stay, and then having to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize a much loved young dog, there was no expression of sympathy, no note or card. And then 2 weeks later to get a call from the cremation services that they had been holding the corpse pending payment for cremation. This clinic gave them a wrong phone number. They got us right in and took her too the back while we filled out the paperwork! If I could give a negative rating I would. I have taken my dog to this hospital twice. The first time was with blood in his urine. Vet wanted to diagnose him with a neurological condition because he was leaning on my husband! He's a GREAT DANE! They do that! When my husband pointed this out, then sent him home with antibiotics for a stomach infection and steroids, and a HUGE bill. The antibiotics did nothing, which led us to another vet and another bill. Eventually he got better on his own. The last week it happened again. I refused to take him back to VCA, but took him to another vet who discovered a mass in his bladder. She referred us back to VCA with all the images they took, along with blood test results. (All barely a week old.) Today VCA wanted to charge me 4 x the amount to have MORE images taken and sedate him in the process, which the other vet did not do. I asked why not use the ones that were sent? I was told because they wanted to see if there were masses in his chest, or other organs. If there were other masses, then that would be a sign of cancer, which would mean his life would be shortened. I asked about a biopsy. They refused to catheter for a biopsy and said it would be a full blow surgical procedure. Then followed it up with, "Why biopsy is there are other masses in his body?" My question.....if this is cancer and there were other masses, why would he keep getting better? As of right now, there is no more blood in the urine, his appetite is great, he plays, he's normal. Aside from about 3 days of blood in his urine, he's back to his old self. Maybe I'm no expert, but I do work in an oncology clinic.....people generally don't get better with cancer. When they provided me with a potential bill of $1700 + to find out NOTHING, I refused service and left. But not without being stuck with a $168 bill to learn nothing new. Hold onto your wallets people! You go there, you will pay for it! Read Less

The only benefit of this specific center is they are open 24/7. We brought our dog in for bladder issues. Essentially after waiting 4 hours we were told that our only option was to get him into surgery and that the only option was the board certified surgeon else he would die. This meant 5k on a 10 year old dog for bladder stones.... The doctor was nice and after being left to mull over our decision, let us know that a number of other places would do the surgery for less and that our dog would be fine overnight provided we start him on the meds provided. However, this angered both me and my wife to a degree since we were told at first that our only option was VCA. This made us feel like they were more concerned about making a buck than the care of our dog. We took him to the Good Samaritan and not only did they do the surgery for much less but were far more attentive to us and our worries than VCA. I would also recommend VCA follows up with their patients before sending a message of sympathy. Our dog is alive an well and it was quite unsettling to receive the card with my dogs paw prints on it... Read Less

I have a dog with chronic vomiting and tremors. We've seen two local vets whom I trust but his problem was a bit beyond their diagnostic abilities. When we arrived at VCA Midwest we were greeted professionally and seen very quickly. Our tech Brandy (I hope that was her name) was amazing. The best way I can describe her is to compare her is to a nurse in a hospital. When my son was very sick and we stayed overnight on the pediatric floor the nurses were so attentive and reassuring. Brandy was the exact same way. Except with my fur baby. She explained what the process was going to look like, then took our dog back to be examined by Dr. Clemans. After Dr. Clemans came in she first asked what we were wanting to to get out of our visit with them. Basically we wanted him fixed but we don't have a money tree. Our dog doesn't have a clear cut reason he is ill so we came up with a treatment plan to follow that would hopefully figure out the problem. Her tech made sure we completely understood everything on our treatment plan (that we get a copy of) including the prices for everything. She encouraged us to call our local vet and discuss what we want to do first, and told us that we are welcome to do the tests with them since they are cheaper. We needed an ultrasound first and that needed to be done with Midwest. They are able to do a much more thorough ultrasound and have special training to read them. I know this is long but my point is, the customer service was EXCELLENT, the tech was equivalent to a nurse for my human child, the doctor was very knowledgeable, yes, their prices are considerably more but they encourage you with the option of doing tests with your primary vet to save money (when you can). They told me where to get certain medications because they would be cheaper than with them. Hope this helps! Read Less

4 hours is absolutely unacceptable for a urine test and prescription. From 10 45 to 3, I waited with my dog. I know I was told how "swamped" they were, but from what I could see, how come all of the other pets with me in the waiting room that morning were long gone? If I got regular updates on the doctors' status, (they must only have one doctor here) I would feel more comfortable. Instead my dog gets tested, brought back, an immediate bill, than an hour and a half of nothing. If I'm paying, could I at least have some indication what the test results were? Unless you have nothing planned for a majority of your day, this is not the place for you. We had to take our dog, Toby, here because he had collapsed at home and was just suddenly lethargic. When we arrived they had 2 vet techs come out to our car to take him to the back. We stayed at receptionists desk while the doctor was with our dog in the hospital part in back. Before we were even checked in a vet tech came and gave us a quick grave report on Toby's status, she said he was on oxygen and his blood pressure was really low. They were up front in asking if we would want to have them do CPR if his situation got worse. We declined CPR just because he was 9 and knew he was in bad shape. Once the doctor came to talk to us she did not have very good news, which we expected. She told us she would get a treatment plan together to go over, but wanted us to know that he was so critical it would be reasonable to consider euthanasia. I really appreciated all the up front advice and compassion they were giving us and I know they were giving Toby, she had told us they were keeping Toby in the back and on oxygen to keep him comfortable and that they started some treatment to help keep his blood pressure up the best they could. A vet tech came into the room and went over the treatment plan which of course was a lot in terms of money and treatments. She gave us so much compassion and gave us time alone to talk about what to do. In the end we did do some tests to confirm what the doctor suspected and decided to not go through with further treatment, because in his case he would of had to have blood transfusions and he probably had a tumor in his abdomen that would need to be removed and was probably cancer. They could not confirm that, however they did confirm that he was so anemic that he would need blood transfusions. We were with him during the euthanasia and it was peaceful. I am thankful for all the time, advise and compassion they gave us through this horrible sudden situation. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Awesome staff and support. A very professional group. Our dog got into some poison. The staff was upfront on the process and fees (I understand why you pay in advance). I wish human doctor offices were this proficient. The charting is also pretty impressive. There is no comparison in my recent ER visit to my dog's. The dog's was way better. Emergency's are expensive whether human or animal. People who complain about the high fees obviously don't understand what's all involved in running this type of business. There are a lot of emotions around our pets and the outcome of an emergency is not always a happy one. Two dogs passed during our visit. One the result of a horrendous attack.
