Sadly, after 13 years of love and companionship, my wife and I had to make the decision to put our dog Madison to sleep on Tuesday. It was, without question, the saddest, hardest day of my life so far. She was my best friend and saying goodbye to her was devastating. I will miss her forever. Knowing that she was quite old and had had some health problems for the last few years, we were scared that her sudden, dramatic turn on Monday might be a sign that the inevitable was near. Unfortunately, we were right. We took her in to Lone Mountain as soon as they opened on Tuesday and met with Dr. Katie Roberts. She was extraordinarily comforting. She was friendly, professional, straight-forward and, above all, extremely compassionate and understanding. While being very respectful and kind, she didn't try to sugar coat what was happening. Instead of guilting us into every test imaginable before making the inevitable diagnosis, she suggested we take it one step at a time, only putting us and Madison through what was absolutely necessary and nothing more. It's astonishing to me that I even need to mention this aspect, but as some of you know, some vets are more interested in billing than actually helping. Dr. Roberts is definitely not one of those kind of vets. When the time came, she was gentle and caring and even shed a few tears of her own. She did her best to make it as easy as something like that can ever be. Even considering the absolutely horrible circumstances of the day, she actually managed to make us leave feeling somewhat better than either of us had expected. It was still a heart-wrenching process, but we are both so glad that she was the one who helped us through it.From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls, we thank you, Dr. Katie Roberts for how you treated us and our beloved girl. Thank you. Read Less
