I usually don't write reviews like this, but my Lovebird and I had the worst experience here at Park Animal Hospital. My mom and I took our new Peach-faced Lovebird to Park Animal Hosptial a week ago for grooming(nails, wings, and beak.) I called around and they were the only Animal Hospital not too far from us that does bird grooming or even works with birds. When we arrived it looked like a very nice, clean place, and the staff was very friendly. We were told there is a Doctor there that is a bird specialist and is very knowledgeable about all kinds of birds. We felt very relieved and excited after hearing that. We get called in the room to wait for the Doctor to come in. As we waited, we played with our bird and calmed her down. Surprisingly, she was very relaxed. We've only had her for a few days so we're still learning how to handle her. We usually wear gloves at home or wear long sleeves, because her beak is very sharp and she is a biter if she feels threatened. That's another reason why we brought her here, for beak grooming. Anyways, DR ERIN finally comes in the room. She was so unprofessional at first I didn't realize she was even the Vet. I was expecting the other Doc to come in, who was supposedly a bird expert. We assumed he was busy, so we ended up with the lovely, Dr. Erin.
She walks in the room like she's in a rush and she's late for something. She barely took a look at my bird. I asked her questions, and told her a bit about my bird. Again, she seemed like she was in a rush and I didn't get anything answered. I mentioned to her that our bird is a biter, and her beak is very sharp. So she said basically NOTHING about my bird. No comments at all. The only thing she did say was, "Can u be my assistant? My techs are all busy." Before I agreed and said yes to her, I thought 3 things to myself. 1: This isn't my job and I'm not trained to do this. 2: I hope she has a glove for me to wear. 3: I'm paying her for this, I hope she knows what she's doing.
First thing she asks me is to grab my bird from her cage and hold her down by her neck. Okay, I'm pretty sure I told her that she bites and we've never grabbed her by force. We are trying to train her to come to us. She really should've had a tech in the room... I stick my hand in the cage, gloveless, trying to catch my bird. And of course she's flying around and not making it easy. Dr Erin was just standing impatiently, watching me. She did nothing to help me. I'm sorry, am I the Vet here who studied and went to school for 8 years or is that you? Do your job! I finally grab my little bird, and of course she is just biting my fingers so hard. She bit my index finger so hard, you could see the flesh. It looked like it was ripped open. I'm still holding my bird down, as she unprofessionally attempts to clip my birds wings. I've never seen someone struggle so much before. Anyways, long story short... Once the whole nightmare was over and my poor lovebird went back in its cage, I was standing there with my bloody hands, and she didn't offer me a single tissue, bandaide, alcohol wipe... Idk, ANYTHING. And the only thing she said after it was over was, here's my card. And handed it to my bloody hand. Then she left the room. I just looked at my mom speechless. We were both a bit shocked. I just had no words. It was very disappointing how unprofessional and unknowledgeable Dr. Erin was.
A week later we got another lovebird and we got him from an actual avian specialist. He beautifully clipped his wings with one hand, no help, very professional in less than 30 seconds. I will only take my birds to him and no one else. I guess it's not always about education. It's about experience. Read Less
