I took my dog sassy hear to my regular vet to be treated for maggots he told me they were not maggots but just regular worms he misdiagnosed her by Saturday night she was ded because of his misdiagnosis by the time I rushed her to after hours vet they said it was To late and told me she did in fact have a maggot out brake and if she had been treated sooner she could of been saved per the other vet . I went to this vets office recently because my cat was having trouble going to the bathroom and because of lack of transportation, i wasnt able to get her to the last vet she saw. Sadly the last time she saw a vet was a few years ago. Life circumstances kept me from being able to take her back to a vet sooner. The vet didnt take the problem very seriously and seemed quit judgemental of the fact I hadnt taken her to a vet in years without understanding why. The look he gave me was very upsetting. One of our dogs were taken here last year for shots and in between our other two were taken to another vet due to being sick, on a Sunday of course, but took them back here when it was time for their shots.  Not only were they $100 less than the other for all three to get updated shots but the doctor was absolutely awesome and spent an entire hour with us discussing each pet in depth.  I am an overprotective pet mom and had a lot of questions about all of them.  For the first 5 years of their lives we went to Bansfield which was a joke, a waste of money and forget it if you had questions or concerns...but that is a different review.  I am so happy that we found this vet and officially switched.   I would highly recommend going here.  I was so happy with the time and attention we received. Dr. Hammes is a kind, gentle veterinarian and a brillaint surgeon. Toni is awesome and as knowledgeable as they come with a sharp sense of humor. They're a great team. I have brought all my pets to Dr. Hammes as well as recommended family and friends. Not one person I recommended to this hospital has ever been disappointed. Dr. Hammes saved my cats life, he went over all the costs with me ahead of time, gave me options and I felt his fee was more than reasonable. As far as I'm concerned, my cats surgery was complicated and in no way a minor surgery. Toni was so sweet and kind while my cat was recovering. Then this past February we learned our beloved dog, Badger had terminal cancer. I was faced with the hardest decision I have ever had to make. And that was letting him go. This kind doctor was able to bring me to a place in my heart and mind where I could feel at peace. For me, that's not an easy thing to do. I worry about everything. He took his time with me and my family and badger. He loved on badger right along with us. And I hope he doesn't mind me saying this but, he shared his experience with me and my family of the time he was losing his own dog. By the time he finished his story; there was not a dry eye in the exam room. Including Dr. Hammes. We were all crying together. I knew then, this man understands exactly what I am going through and I will never want another vet. I already had the utmost respect and admiration  for Toni and Dr. Hammes. After going through that difficult and heart wrenching time with them, the respect and admiration is off the charts. Excellent animal hospital. They are caring people that won't rob you with the cost. The doctor doesn't do anything that doesn't need to be done, and I appreciate that. You are able to get an appointment within the same week, even the next day. We needed to board our dogs at the last minute and they were able to accommodate us and took excellent care of our dogs. Used to be on a plan with Banfield found it to be a bunch of nonsense.   Then found Alta animal hospital.  Their service was great my dog actually got the care he needed and their prices were similar to that of Banfield  with out any additional plan to pay for. Read Less

Dr. Hammes went above and beyond to save the life of our beloved yellow lab. He performed intensive surgery to check her stomach and every inch of intestines. Our lab had ate something and had a blockage. We will never be able to thank him enough. Toni is also great! They do truly treat every animal as if their own. Read Less

I have been going to this Vet office since 2013 after my vet off Charleston and Buffalo misdiagnosed my cat and fixing her cost me thousands of dollars, the Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center even recommend them after fixing my little furball. I am extremely pleased with the way my kittens are treated at this office. They are so caring and they remember little things about my pets and their health and I love that.Read Less

This place is god awful. My 6 month old pitbull got kennel cough and broke out in hives from this office. They then tried to deny that it was their fault and wanted to be a smart ass to me about it. My dog is now sick from them. They also wanted to charge a ton of money to fix something that they caused in the first place. My pitbull, Chico, developed a bad skin condition. After numerous attempts to get it resolved I was referred to Dr. Hammes by a friend. When I showed up, his wife Toni met us and was very friendly with myself and my dog while we waited for the doctor. She even took a picture of him for her web site. When I met with the doctor he was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to explain the problem and the solution. He gave me some medicine and special shampoo which worked immediately. The skin issues were resolved perfectly. His wife called twice to follow up on Chico's condition and make sure everything went well. The best part is that I was surprised at how reasonable the cost was. He did not charge me for anything unnecessary. For example, when we were there I asked about a skin tag that Chico had and the doctor could easily have told me that it needed to be removed. I was ready to hear that, and ready to pay for it. Instead he told me that removal was unnecessary and to save my money. I was extremely impressed with his honesty, knowledge, and care. I was pleasantly surprised about:1. how quickly we were seen 2. how long the doctor took with us3. his honesty in not charging me for unnecessary services, and4. the fair price for services.I strongly recommend Dr. Hammes. As my cat has gotten older, car rides have become a more fraught and traumatizing experience for her, so when I moved to the other end of town, the drive to her previous vet was untenable. I had to relocate out of the area and I still miss Dr. Hammes and Toni.  I was a customer from 2007 to 2012, and I have never found a better vet in any other area of the country.  I can't say enough good things about this practice. They actually listen to you, do not rush, and help you clearly understand what the test results and all of the potential symptoms might mean and what options you have going forward. They aren't trying to empty your wallet, they truly care about you and your animals.  I have young healthy kittens right now, but I've seriously contemplated bringing them back to Vegas if a non-urgent issue were to arise, that's how great they are and how much I trust them with my pet children! This is a family owned vet hospital, and they treat you as if you are a part of the family. I was their customer for 5 years, ultimately brining 3 cats in for services. I lost 2 of my older cats (13 and 15 years old) and through both illnesses Dr. Hammes and Toni spent the time to explain all the bloodwork, all the options, and even shed tears when I ultimately had to put one of them down. I took my cats in for checkups, boarding, and eventually, end of life care. They were always honest, descriptive, and reasonable in price. If you consider your animals to be part of your family, then this is where you absolutely need to go. I have never had a vet office treat me with such respect and genuineness.
