We have been going to Dr. Arteaga since 1990. We've own two dogs and he and his staff has always gave our dogs excellent care. From the time they are puppies up until the end of their life. The place may not be a brand new facility but that means he doesn't have to charge you outrageous prices. He suggested things you need as well as things that you may wait till later to have done. Beautiful kitten of ours didn't make it here and all they did as an "Examination" was check her throat and ears. They wanted $44 for that, even though we were only there for 15 minutes and they spent maybe 2 "examining" her. Not only was it not worth it, it was a pathetic experience of the doctor shoving his opinion down our throats and wasting time he could have been trying to save her. Not to mention we rushed in with her barely breathing and the nurse would only accept us if we filled out PAPERWORK. MY CAT IS DYING, YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME? I've been to other animal emergency places before and they RUSHED my cats in, knowing it was a real emergency and not a joke. I should have known better though. This isn't an Animal Emergency place. It's just a another ripoff hospital where they try to rape you out of money. "Money first, Animals Last" that should be the title of their overpriced and overrated "Hospital". We lost one of our babies about two months ago and when I came to the Hospital at 7 am carrying Jeager in a box and wrapped up in a towel the receptionist and the other staff members treated both of us with respect and let me take all the time I needed to say goodbye to him. I'm so disappointed with this facility. As I noticed some sudden changes in behavior in my 2 and a half year old dachshund I took him in immediately. I thought it was an ear infection but I also mentioned to the vet some other concerns of mine and he didn't give me a solid answer or even offer either exam for him. This week has been absolutely TERRIBLE! As we found out by another clinic that my puppy has 2 diseases! He could of have been treated when I originally took but I'm SO glad I took my puppy somewhere els as they immediately jumped into blood work and exams and thankfully we were able to save his life! I can't explain the frustration and disappointment I have in this clinic!!! You gave me medicine that my dog DIDN'T need nor did you offer me further examination. Your veterinarian stupid explanation was oh it's nothing! I wasted money there that I could of have used to further medicate and/or exam my dachshund!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!!!! Read Less

I was adopted by one of the neighborhood cats awhile back, and finally took him into get fixed at a shelter because it was free and would return him to my home after his recovery (I don't drive). Well, I could tell after a day or two that he wasn't feeling well, having one noticeably favored eye which watered a lot and produced a lot of mucus, and that the incision area was extremely bruised (I've another male cat that I keep indoors that didn't bruise nearly as bad).The staff was able to get him in the same day, and was very friendly and understanding. Archer ended up having a 104° temperature, a respiratory infection, and a confirmed mangled incision area. The doctor was able to address the temperature immediately, and discussed treatment options with me, helping me to pick the best route for both our lifestyle and my budget. As far as the facility, itself, it was clean, and you could smell the disinfectant in the examination room. The building is visibly older, however, giving it a very worn appearance, which might be off-putting to some. Don't mistake an old building for uncleanliness. It's been about two weeks and Archer is doing great. He's healing up nicely, and hasn't shown any symptoms or signs of pain. I will definitely take my animals back if needed. Read Less

Dr A is a fantastic vet. His staff, however, need to find other professions. I am a non profit Rescue organization. I bring numerous dogs in that we rescue from shelters and abuse situations. I asked for a reference letter for the shelter one day and was told by his front desk worker, he doesn't do that. So i asked to speak to him. They lied and said they'd leave him a message. They did not. I called every week for over a month. I work the same hours they are open so i can not go in person right now. Finally i called and said o would hold until he came to the phone. I was told I am banned from their hospital now. What???? I'm pretty sure he knows nothing about this, because he told me to "bring all these babies you save to see me" but i am sure to take care of it.Read Less

first of all the receptionist was okay until I brought my dog knowing the dog and it's history I'm so angry and upset that they didn't take care of my dog but I'll explain myself as best as I could. the dog isn't mine it's my mother's they refused her service due to not paying and that's another story my mom brought my aunt to get her dog fixed and they did it but my aunt refused to pay and left it to my mom and my mom didn't have the money now comes the situation that I'm in my mom's dog fractured his leg so I took to an animal emergency had it fixed for 800 they told me to take it to any clinic to get it checked my mom took him to Raul and the receptionist refused to let my mom talk to him or even hear her out she would of paid them for the check up and a portion of what my aunt owes but obviously she doesn't have all the money but they didn't want to hear it and called cops so that left her to go to another vet this guy was even worse he told her that she didn't need to remove the cast maybe in two weeks so the two weeks pass and we bring it and he says that another two weeks won't hurt and then three days pass and we notice that the dog isn't acting right so we bring him to Raul knowing he's a good doctor and friendly nice guy but he refused to help us and left us to last minute do it ourselves due to them making us wait an hour in the room if they didn't want to serve us they should of just told us but they just where cruel and inhuman I can't believe they would just let a dog hurt like that they do not love animals it's obvious. Had an emergency... Our 6 mo old shepherd got bit and it was infected & we were just starting an 8-day driving vacay.  Chose Dr. Artega based on Yelp reviews and so glad we did. Fantastic & caring staff, attentive and knowledgeable vet and very reasonable.  Wish we could move the whole kit and kaboodle to L.A. This would be our go to vet clinic. PROS:  A doctor who truly, truly cares about your pet and will spend the necessary time to help that pet.  Prices are reasonable, and he will try to keep services that way for you, if you need them to be.  Personable and warm personality with the pet's owners too. :)  The office staff will do everything they can to get you in sooner.  The woman who helped us was very helpful and friendly.CONS:  I don't really have any.  I guess, if you're looking for a very fancy office(which your fees would be paying for), then you won't like the basic decor here.  ;) Read Less

Dr. A and his staff provide the best experience for your pet,  and the pet parent!My senior mini dachshund is fat... Every Vet (and I tried several) in Arizona and Nevada... all said cut back on food...One Vet had him on prescription diet food, and  no treats..NONE... for a year...He lost about a pound on that starvation diet. And, I felt like a horrible pet parent...Dr. A listened, and diagnosed via lab tests and a "caring to check" attitude that my little guy was suffering from Cushing's disease. Dr. A put him on medication, and continues to manage his disease.My boy is obviously feeling better because,  he is much peppier and continues to lose weight without being "starved"...Without Dr. A,,  my boy would no doubt have developed all the problems of overweight dachshunds...Or, perhaps I would have lost him altogether...I am very grateful to Dr. A. for his knowledge, his caring and for just taking the time to really diagnose and get it right...Instead of just saying,  "feed him less"...and presenting a bill... Took my little yorkie CoCo here for the first time yesterday. Got an appointment right away and was seen immediately by the doctor on a Saturday (Memorial Day Weekend). Dr. A was very informative and addressed all my concerns regarding my dog's allergies. He asked lots of questions to better understand what was happening and what my concerns were. Coco was injected with an antihistamine and his itching was almost instantly relieved. He recommended a good brand of food to try and also gave me some tips on how I can avoid future skin irritations. I went home with a prescription, and a bottle of RX dog shampoo.I would definitely recommend Dr. A and will definitely be coming back to him for a follow up visit on 2 weeks. Dr. A is THE BEST. Our 1.5 yr old Maine Coon kitten "Smeagle" was having breathing problems + coughing fits, and after several weeks/several hundred dollars at another vets office with NO improvement...we were frustrated and depressed. After a particularly bad night, we finally heard about Sahara Animal Hospital. We called and were able to get a next-day appointment, everyone from the receptionist to the nurses were kind, calming and professional. They made two pet parents feel at ease during a very stressful time, and treated our little dude like one of their own. Dr. A and the nurse did a few brief exams, asked the questions needed and within minutes had an idea what was going on. After a fast and very inexpensive set of X-rays...we had our answer. Dr. A made a few suggestions and wrote us a prescription, all the while assuring us that our "little love" was going to be just fine. And he is. We paid a fraction of the price from other offices, spent a fraction of the time...and Smeagle was wheeze/cough free within 3 days. Happy and back to his old self. My senior baby had been suffering from wheezing and coughing for a little bit and I had been told by two other vets that he had "allergies". When I brought him in to see Dr. A, he was able to deduce that my dog was suffering from congestive heart failure, and that his wheezing was caused by fluid in the lungs due to his enlarged heart. While the news has left me crushed beyond belief, I am happy that Dr. A was able to catch that he had a heart problem when TWO OTHER DOCTORS could not. Dr. A and his staff showed me the X-rays, described the issues in detail, answered all my questions, and treated me with respect and kindness. I highly recommend coming to Sahara Animal Hospital. The fiancé and I head into Sahara Animal Hospital due to our usually negative visits in most of the valley. Who knows what reviews mean, you know? The health of your best friend is not something you take lightly. We just purchased a puppy from a slightly shifty breeder, and wanted to ensure their complete health and safety. We went in for a wellness check and her first set of vaccinations, which ended splendidly.The office itself is very clean, professional, and nicely decorated with pretty paintings of man's best friend. There are leashes hanging that can be used in case yours slipped your mind or broke. It's very friendly, and very quick service if you schedule an appointment. Our puppy is eight weeks, and every nurse in there made her feel comfy. She loved the attention, and barely even squeaked the entire time we were there. Dr. Arteaga was awesome. He's very straightforward and incredibly honest. His directness and quick execution was superb. He took care of the shots in an instant and, had she not seen it happen, I doubt she would have felt much at all. He seems very fast-paced; all of the information he gave us was well-explained in a condensed manner. His explanation of the shot, as well as her diet, inner health, and mass really assisted us in understanding how to take care of her. Everything worked out for the best, and, the very next day, we brought in her sister. Scheduling another appointment for her next set of shots was great. Very fast, very easy, and they even call you a day ahead of time to confirm that you remember.I'm definitely making this my go-to. Even if it is a little far from our home. Read Less

Earlier this week my new kitten started having seizures out of the blue. He had 5 in one day, and the following day 2 and 3 more on the drive to the Animal Hospital. I had decided I couldn't wait for my friends father (a veterinarian) to check him on Monday. It was Saturday and the picking was limited. I was reluctant because I didn't want to get robbed by a vet, as I had be not only warned but been reading through horrific reviews on yelp (yeah those ones hiding under the "not recommended" tab) of people being taken for thousands of dollars. I came across Dr.  Arteaga's yelp reviews and they looked really good and were left by people who seemed to be legitimate yelp users.When I called the receptionist was nice and said I could come in on a walk in basis. Sadly, as I was driving over, my kitten had 3 really horrible seizures, one after another-WAY worse than any before. He was having one as I walked in the door and the receptionist took him back to the doctor.  I was really bent up about it and crying and everyone was very nice.The doctor came in and let me know various things that causes seizures, this and that, and different tests we could run (but very tactfully let me know that these things would cost money.) He was not pushy in any way nor was he car salesman-like. He had a kind demeanor and was empathetic. When I let him know it was extremely hard for me to watch the kitten suffer like that and mentioned I had a 6 year old nephew and baby, we started to talk about putting the kitten down. He did not initiate this conversation until I did. He agreed that this was a hard thing for the kids to watch as well as me, and how not letting your animals suffer is also just as much of an act of love, as trying everything you can to save them. He said he would support me and did not want me to feel guilty or bad if I chose to take that route. He explained that if I did chose that route it he would ensure it would be a gentle and painless process. I have to say, in my gut, I knew I couldnt let this kitty continue to suffer. As he was having seizures so bad that it looked as if he was being electrocuted. Its just not fair to see a little soul go through this over and over. 10 seizures in less than 2 days was not a good sign.  It was such a hard decision to make. Dr. Arteaga was gentle and made me feel okay about my decision. His staff was kind as I was bawling my eyes out. His prices were extremely fair.  Today I received a condolences card in the mail, signed by each of the staff members. I thought this was very kind and also classy. It made me feel even more at peace with my choice. So, if you are looking for a kind doctor (and staff) and especially if you need weekend assistance, I would highly recommend this office. Also, lesson learned to not buy pets from breeders who have no reputation! I think the siamese breeder was not properly breeding these cats as she hung up on me as soon as I called her and later changed her phone #. Very sad.
