Sunset Eastern Animal Hospital

Unfortunately my family and I did not have a good experience when we chose to call Sunset Eastern Animal Hospital to euthanize our dog at home. The cost was pretty expensive which we figured it would be but our dog was dying & was already scared & it was the first time we've ever had to make a decision to end our pet's life. We called to make the appointment on 2/11/18 at 11:23 am, which was a Sunday & their office was open until 1 pm. At that time we were told the cost was $305 & had to be paid immediately w/a credit card. An hour later at 12:16 pm. The receptionist called us back to inform us that they had ran our credit card again to charge an additional $75 for the "weekend fee". We were bothered at the fact that they had made the charge without asking our permission first, that it was more expensive than we had originally been told, & that we had been watching our dog slowly die for an hour & they still were not on their way. We did not realize then that they were waiting for their office to close. Well, I'm not sure what time it happened but our dog ended up dying without their assistance & it was agonizingly horrible. At 1:36 pm we called to let them know & cancel since they were no longer needed. The receptionist told me she would call the doctor on her cell as they were on their way. About ten minutes later they knocked on our door & I now realize it was to confirm that they had made the drive so they could validate still charging us. Dr. Kendra Grantz charged us $175 for a "house call" claiming it took her out of the office causing her to not see other patients & other operational fees for the business, yet she didn't leave her office until after 1 pm when they were closed. It's a 20 minute drive from her office to our house, 7.4 miles to be exact. We called at 1:36 pm & they still were not here. I tried disputing the charges, but my credit card company just informed me that they decided to side w/her & proceed w/billing us. Basically it's my word against hers & I originally agreed to let them charge my account so the doctor gets to decide what she feels she should be paid. Regardless of the fact that she did not provide any service to us, use any of her supplies or equipment that would have to be replaced, no catheter, no syringe, no drugs, nothing, & we were forced to watch our dog slowly die while we were unknowingly waiting for her to close her office. I know not to expect kindness from people regardless of the situation you find yourself in, but I thought this was really low on her behalf. A veterinarian who you would always hope cares more about helping animals & their owners when they need it, than about money. Clearly this was not the case. This was an absolutely terrible experience & on top of that we have to pay a fairly large amount for nothing. I will never use their services again. Read Less

We've been taking our baby's for years. The Staff are Incredibly caring and really know their field. We only go to this Vet. Dr. Grantz, Dr. Reed and Dr. Hopkins are AWESOME. Your baby or baby's are definitely in well qualified hands. Read Less

My little buddy Willy was very ill with inoperable liver cancer. As hard as it was to say goodbye, it was time to let him go. So I arranged for an in-home euthanasia. Willy had not been a patient of Sunset Eastern so this was my first interaction with them. My biggest concern was for my little buddy to drift away as gently as possible. Although we had never met, Dr Grantz and her assistant (Courtney? ) were extremely kind and patient. They were very compassionate and I immediatly knew I made the right choice. My buddy passed away very peacefully in my arms as if he had simply fallen asleep. I am so thankful for both of them. They were very supportive and took the time to make such a terrible day go by so peacefully. Thank you, Dr. Grantz for your professionalism, compassion, and patients. I believe you probably spent considerably more time on my case than most, but I never felt rushed in any way. Our boxer Bruno crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday. And this staff was amazing! The nurse and the Dr. were so compassionate and helpful. We lost 2 of our fur babies in one week. But we brought or boxer here for their help. I am so grateful to them! My hubby and i were a mess and they helped us through it step by step. Very caring and we appreciate it so much! Thank you!!! I'm giving this place a 1 STAR sorry to write a poor review! This  is  because of the comments and service by A particular veterinarian there!!I brought my sweet dog in about 2 weeks ago as I suspected a Urinary tract infection.The vet tech seemed nice enough.AFTER A LONG!!WAIT THE VET finally came in with her beaming smile which I complimented her on! She said he needs a blood panel!!So they did a blood panel on him.She said we will have the results tomorrow.I called once or twice..nothing!so I decided to drive over.About 430Said hurry we close 5.30 I think, I was 5 mins away I told her! I went Firstly to have a hard copy of the diagnosis.When I arrived there,She tells me He has Diabetes and KELOIDACIDOCIS +1 and urine infection as I suspected.not a good outcome.!!Gave me clavamox..said he will probably need more next week? I knew  he had diabetes!! He was  Diagnosed last year!!I had told her he's diabetic already the day before!Blood in urine is a sign of Urinary infection.I may not be a veterinarian..but I'm not an idiot!Why I brought him in the first place!She always had this beaming fake smile..She said he needs diabetic food recommended science WD. After looking at the ingredients...which seemed crap! I chose royal canin..a little better..and a few cans of Science diet..as lady a nice woman working there.Said it's fine to mix them. That she did it with her dog!The vet seemed angry..about mixing 2 I still have 3 cans and like half or more left of kibble he's not a fan!she came out and said I was  busy Euthanizing a dog!! I didn't need to know that either!!girl at the desk says it's already paid for!The vet wanted to also keep him in under observation for 2-3 days at a cost of $2000!!I don't have that!!I think he's better off with me anyway instead of a cage! I've been taking care of him since 6/16 when the ASPCA wanted to euthanize him.I also asked her about a homemade diet.?She said she'd have to ask a friend or someone at the cost of $150!!!It also  says BLATANTLY outside FREE VACCINES He was given NONE!The worst thing she said to me was : I WOULDN'T BUY A LARGE BAG OF DOG FOOD BECAUSE HE PROBABLY WON'T LIVE TO FINISH IT!! WTF!!!!THEN SHE WAS ON ABOUT GOING HOME DIDN'T WANT TO BE Late for her Babysitter!!I was DISGUSTED!!NO FOLLOW UP CALL WAS  MADE TO SEE HOW MY DOG WAS EITHER.?? I am Very ANGRY and UPSET with SERVICE and Attitude of This  Veterinarian!!They owe me VACCINES and a huge APOLOGY this vet. Had no Sympathy at all!!Why is she even in this Position!!They're supposed to care about Sick Animals!!I was probably unlucky with the vet I got As this place was recommended to me!!By the way the prescription food goes right back out within 20 mins..so what good  does it do? probably nothing!!I WANT  a REFUND on the food.and THE vaccines done as listed OUTSIDE  and inside!!Perhaps then I will change my review!! Kendra is amazing! My 8 year old Great Dane was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (congestive heart failure) in November. Thanks to Kendra and their team of vets my dog is enjoying the later stages of his life. He was able to see Christmas and have his 8th birthday! He is on various medications however he is still eating, drinking, playing, loving, walking, and doing all the same things he did before his diagnosis. I have raised this dog since a puppy and would gladly give my life for him if it were possible. The care and concern they have shown my dog is outstanding and I'm truly grateful to have such well knowledge people looking out for him . I don't know if he would be alive it if it wasn't for their assistance and of course my wallet! 5 Stars recommendation times a million. Read Less

I only wish that they were located closer to the NW Summerlin area. Other than that, no complaints! Excellent staff (polite, efficient, and sincere), and Dr. Reed is no exception. She is incredibly knowledgeable and demonstrates patience while giving clear explanations. She gave me advice on how to work with my dog more effectively and recommended the most amazing book: "How to Behave So Your Dog Behaves" by Dr. Sophia Yin. Read Less

The staff & Vets are amazing and listen to your concerns and issues. They seem to genuinely care for your animals and want them to be in the best health possible. They also have a wonderful group of groomers that leave your pet looking movie star ready and the pricing is very reasonable compared to many other places. Garcia was my best friend for 18 years - the decision to put her down the Monday before Christmas was one of the hardest of my life. Since her regular veterinarian did not offer mobile euthanasia, I contacted Sunset Animal Hospital. Dr. Reed and her assistant treated my very sick little kitty with a humbling amount of respect and compassion from the moment they walked in our door - as if she'd been a lifelong patient of the clinic. I cannot say enough great things about Sunset Eastern. First and foremost, Dr. Grantz is amazing. She always acts like my dog is her number one priority, which to me, is important as my dog is my kid. Dr. Grantz always shows compassion, which is especially evident during my freak-out moments when my dog shows signs that are 'not normal'. She takes the time to fully understand what is not normal asking great questions to dissect my dog's symptoms and always takes the time to walk me through each treatment option. At the end of the day, Dr. Grantz is the vet you should take your pet to for honest, valuable, personalized, fun care. She is hands down the best. Trust me, I contact her often for my pampered child. When I brought my dog in for vaccines Dr. Grantz looked very familiar, and when I got home I remembered her from the Animal Planet reality TV show that she had been on. She was just as knowledgeable and nice as she was on the reality show. I would highly recommend her veterinary care!! Read Less

DR Grantz and the other staff have treated both of my dogs and they are both healthy and happy. When ever my wife and I leave town we always like to keep our dogs at there doggy hotel, because we know they will be safe and cared for. Read Less

I so regret taking my cats there. I brought them in for annual shots and teeth cleaning. What a mistake! When I got my cats back they were a mess. I could tell they had had a rough time....maybe the vet didn't actually use anesthetic as I had asked for and paid for? When I got my cats home, one of them threw up blood EVERYWHERE. OMG the poor thing! It was horrible! This has NEVER happened before anywhere else I had ever taken them. Her gums looked really chopped up, and she has extremely good teeth. It's not like her teeth were caked with tarter and the had to use a construction drill to remove it or something! I brush their teeth often and regularly, and take them once a year for a dental cleaning. She does not have gingivitis at all, but her gums looked horrible...like they had really beat her up. The other cat was not so bad, but certainly worse than I had seen him come back to me before in the past. I called the vet up and told them what happened, and asked them what they had done to my cat. I got denials anything wrong had occurred, & that everything had gone fine and they were fine. HELLO??? My cat is throwing up BLOOD - and LOTS of it!!! And they were telling me she was fine? Are you kidding? I was so angry at the receptionist and how rude she was, I went back down to them to ask them face to face what they had done to my cat(s). Again, denials, claims of innocence. Take my word for it....DO NOT EVER BRING YOUR PET HERE!!!!! EVER EVER EVER!!! This is the worst vet clinic I have EVER been to. Your pet would be treated better by incurring the wraths of Hell than by receiving ""service"" at this cesspit of doom. I take my cats elsewhere now...and we're all much happier for it now. I would never recommend you to take your pet here. At first my visit was great! The girl I spoke to on the phone was great, very informative, sweet, kind, and was very willing to work with my schedule. Once I got there, it was a whole other ballpark. The receptionist was rude, abnoxious and knew nothing about animals. I asked her if she was the one that I spoke to on the phone and she rudely said ""No, she was fired"" I wish I could've spoke to her instead. And she actually told me that none of their technicians are licensed and or have had any proper schooling but they are ""still allowed by the doctors to do stuff regular technicians are allowed to do. (Can you show me that in the Nevada State Laws??) I went into the exam room with my pet and the technician was extremely rude, almost like she didn't want to hear anything I had to say. I heard her phone go off a couple times in the room, and she actually had the nerve to step outside the room to answer her phone! Um HELLO? The doctor was pleasant but wasn't very informative. Of course they wanted to jack my bill through the roof (do they make commission?) After i let the doctor know that I couldn't afford to do all the tests and things she wanted me to do, it's almost as if her nor the technician had any remorse for the pet. HEED MY WARNING! Step into a Freak Show if you visit Sunset Eastern Animail Hospital. The office staff is horrible. I had an appointment for 3pm - didn't matter. Other ""paying"" customer's who came in (after me) were taken first while I was kept waiting. I was there with a cat I just adopted from the ASCPA and picked this vet from their ""free"" list, my cost - $96. I would not return even if the visit was really for free! I took my dog and two cats here for several years. Over the last year they have had the worst service. There hours change on what seems like a weekly basis. They used to be open 7 days a week, then they changed to 6 days, with some days open until 7 pm. Then they changed to only a few hours on Saturdays and close at 6pm. I arrived at 5:57 to pick up my cat that had been groomed and no one was in the building and the door were locked. I tried calling and knocking on all doors, before realizing there were no cars in the parking lot. No one had called to say they were closing early and needless to say I was extremely upset. The next day the office manager was not apologetic in the slightest and actually said that her people clocked out on time and so my clock must have been off. I explained that I was going off of my cell phone which is based off of satellites and that my car clock is actually set 3 minutes fast - but she could not just apologize and was beyond rude on the phone. I had many concerns, including that they kept my cat with no knowledge of if she needed medication or additional care, as I had not completed any boarding information. I spoke with Dr. Grant, who is very nice, but still was trying to come up for reasons for the mishap. She was trying to explain their procedures and how the veterinary group may not realize if a grooming patient should be staying or not. Well, that seems like an issue with their procedures, not my clock. The groomer Shonna is great, but I am so unhappy with the rest of the group that now I am switching to a new veterinary hospital. My dog drown in our pool. I was so distraught, so my husband came home grabbed my puppy and took her to a vet office he had driven by everyday on his way to work. They were suppose to contact their cremation guy and have her cremated for us. My husband asked the receptionist what to do and they said they could do this. I found out 2 weeks later, after they avoided us, that they discarded her. Yes, they threw her away. She had tags on her and they didnt bother to confirm or anything. I had just gotten her for my b-day present and have 1 picture to remember her by. They are inconsiderate. I would NEVER recommend them. OH and they admitted they were wrong and asked me what they could do to make it better. hmmmmmm.....an apology would have been nice. Read Less
