Vca Blue Cross Animal Hospital

Las Vegas, Nevada
General Info
Across Nevada, Vca Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Las Vegas aids pet families by implementing care strategies focused on emotional healing, physical progress monitoring, and adaptable examination schedules. The initiation of intake procedures does not commence through document completion. Staff members watch the animal's entry while noting if it hesitates circles vocalizes or anchors its weight to the door. The clinic observes patient responses to determine whether to implement a slow approach, quiet staging, or quick triage based on stress levels. Physical evaluations examine balance ear tension skin warmth hydration fur texture oral response breath pattern and handling resistance. Medical evaluations rely on owner feedback which defines all diagnostic processes by examining sleeping positions seasonal behavior changes appetite shifts and recent avoidance patterns. Vca Blue Cross Animal Hospital delivers an extensive array of services including wellness checks urgent care geriatric mapping weight stabilization plans and pain indexing. Service divisions across multiple visits cater to pets thriving in shorter activity periods. A select group of individuals might find full-day staggered handling advantageous when interspersed with break periods. This model enables families to prevent retraumatization experiences for animals sensitive to noise and those recovering from surgery or with previous fear histories. The process of post-visit planning incorporates body-language guides alongside emotional response scales for patients to track at home. Owners should modify their communication patterns along with their schedules and daily practices to support post-care decompression. Behavioral readiness determines when follow-ups are set instead of fixed schedules. Vca Blue Cross Animal Hospital delivers a veterinary cadence to pet families across Las Vegas and nearby Nevada communities that fosters both physical recovery and emotional balance while maintaining clinical exactness.

I’ve been taking my cats to them for well over 10 years. I like all the veterinarians and especially Dr. Wiggers. She is very honest and when I had to put my elderly cat Sheba to sleep whose kidneys were failing, I really appreciated her being up front with me as to my cat’s poor prognosis as opposed to telling me what I wanted to hear. Her candor and throughfulness made the decision much easier. On a happier note, all my acts have always gotten the care and treatment they need. The diagnoses have always been accurate and the treatments have always been effective. Great front desk staff too!!! Read Less

I had a great experience with the check up and the doctor is great, but they failed to mention hidden fees and wasted my time. They told me to drop something off (because I was supposed to bring it in the first place) and they ended up charging me for it. I wouldn't have minded paying that fee but the fact they didn't tell me is ridiculous. Let's go back to them not telling me to bring it for my initial apt. Would it have been free if I brought it then? Who knows. Horrible communication. And I will defiantly not be coming back. Read Less

I love taking my pets here! I knocked off a star for price...My favorite DVM is Dr. Montgomery. I haven't seen her in a while because it seems that she is either not available or schedule is full! If you are looking to just vaccinate your dogs I'm not positive this is the place to go...because the initial exam fee can be $$45-60(?) then you have to pay for the cost of each vaccine. Gets kinda pricey for two or more dogs. But other than that I have gotten one of my pups a dental here and they did a great job. I will say when I took in a family friends pet here for a dental exam they quoted me like $1,000-1200 which was almost double the cost of the last dental I did with them. We decided to take her somewhere else because I was quoted less than half of that. Overall, it's hit or miss with pricing. But the doctors here are genuinely caring for your pups and the techs are awesomeeeeee! Read Less

We have been coming here for the last 8 years and it is with a heavy heart I write this review. First let me say Dr. Wiggers is awesome and she has always been great with our dogs and so has Ann and the other older front desk person I forget her name. Other than that over the last couple years it has gone down hill fast. The last two times I boarded my dog here we've had issues. Her not being fed as instructed or her coming home sick. They have apologized and even given us refunds but I just want my dog taken care of. Today was a turning point and we have decided not to go back. We had a 10 am with Dr Montgomery whom we had never met. A girl walks in and says you're here for shots and an exam. I said Yes and asked are you the Dr? She said no I'm the tech. Ok thanks for introducing yourself tech who still didn't give her name. 10:30 comes around she pops in and says the Dr had an emergency I'm going to send in Dr Tack. Ok I say. 15 minutes later no update no Dr. I go out to the front desk ask for a status. They tell me 15 minutes. I figure I'm here we'll stay and wait. 11 am a man who I assume is Dr Tack walks in. Again no introduction he starts looking through my dogs chart and the tech notes. Then the quiz  starts. Do you brush yours dogs teeth. No. His response yes I knew that. Tells me about her teeth and gum line he then says she may benefit from a blood test. Then he checks one ear gives her her shots and tells me he is sending in the tech to tell me the price of a blood test. He walk out. Wow really?? The worst exam ever. But oh how quickly the tech with no name came in to ask for a 60.00 blood test. Thanks but no thanks. I went up front paid my 100.00 asked for my dogs medical records and left. So very disappointed that the compassion they showed 8 years ago is gone. Disappointed our tenure is not valued and saddened to know they have lost focus on what is important our pets who are like family. Stars for Dr. Wiggers who we will miss and those two ladies who always showed a genuine appreciation for our visits. Read Less

I started going to Blue Cross Animal Hospital when I moved from the Centennial Area down to Summerlin. I wish I had discovered this fantastic vet office sooner! It would have been worth the drive.I originally just needed a place to board my Pit Bull, Rosie. Blue Cross doesn't board unless you are a client, which made me feel very confident about their level of interest in their patients. (My previous vet always made me feel like my pets were just a number to them, despite going there for years.) Blue Cross offered to give me a tour of their boarding facilities before my first appointment, which I really appreciated. After going to Blue Cross for standard care (vaccines, boarding, etc.), Rosie developed a lump near her tail. Dr. Montgomery diagnosed it as a mast cell tumor and removed it. Unfortunately, Rosie kept developing these mast cell tumors and had four surgeries in about 6 months. At each appointment, Dr. Montgomery was kind and compassionate. I feel like she had a genuine relationship with Rosie and I implicitly trusted her with Rosie's care.Rosie ended up developing a very aggressive, incurable type of cancer and we were referred to a specialty center with an oncology department. However, we did have to coordinate Rosie being boarded at Blue Cross for an unavoidable trip which happened to correspond with her chemo treatment. The doctors at Blue Cross worked directly with the specialty center to ensure Rosie's care continued without any hiccups. When it came time to humanely euthanize Rosie, I opted to do this at Blue Cross. The entire staff was incredibly compassionate. The front office staff handled my questions about cost and logistics with care, the vet tech made Rosie as comfortable as possible during the preparations and Dr. Montgomery made the entire euthanasia go as well as I could have hoped. I left the euthanasia feeling as though Rosie died surrounded by people who loved her, including the Blue Cross staff.I can't recommend Blue Cross Animal Hospital enough and I will definitely be going there when I eventually get a new dog. My first visit with my new pet was great. Then I got a call about his diagnosis and a prescription being ready. I called back because I recognized an additional symptom my puppy wasn't checked for, I was just asked about (which he didn't have at the previous time of the visit less than 24 hours prior). I was told to leave a message for the pharmacy and I did. The second prescription was supposed to be ready upon pick up of the first one. It wasn't. I asked about it and an appointment because I wanted to make sure my nine week old puppy was okay. The appointment was NOT needed but the prescription could be filled in five minutes OR I could bring him back and they'd give me a prescription then. What?! Why give me a prescription if you need to see the dog first When I pointed that out I got the "I'm not a doctor" response and they then gave me "the standard medication for dogs from the Pet Store You just purchased him from" and kind of made it seem like a hassle that I was asking for something I was told they'd have ready for me IN THE FIRST PLACE. He's a brand new addition to our family and quite expensive at that (not that that should make a difference). Emphasis on family. His health isn't something I take lightly or would expect his primary care giver to make seem like a hassle. I have an appointment I have to take him to in the morning but once this "warranty" through the pet store I bought this little guy is from is up, I highly doubt I will be going back because of this incident. Two stars because 1) Dr. Tack was incredibly kind the first go round and 2) the facility is impeccably clean. Read Less

I have nothing but praise for the professionalism and quality of care given by the DVMs at Blue Cross Animal Hospital. I must also say, that for the most part, the supporting staff is friendly, and seem to genuinely care about animals.Okay, good quality care, then why I did I only give it 3 Stars?Availabiltiy and price. If there was a real emergency, they would find a way for my pet to see a Doctor. However, for any of my 3 pets to see their preferred Doctor, there would be a considerable amount of time. Usually a wait for almost a week. Also, their prices are quite out of sight!!One of my dogs needed a mystery tumor removed, and a teeth cleaning. I was quoted between $1700- $1838.  Though we have Catastrophy Pet Health Insurance, the deductible is $1000, and the cleaning, included in the quote, was not covered by Insurance. In other words, all out of pocket. Beeing frugal, I got a quote from a nearby competitor, and it was for a MAXIMUM of $638. That quote also included removing a second tumor found, that Blue Cross missed. I saved over $1000, and my dog is happy, healthy, and running around. Best gift I could ever ask for Christmas. As another example, they charge $17 for a routine "anal squeezing" (nice way to put it). The competitor charges $9, and my experience twice is they usually "comp" it, if the dog is there for other things such as vaccines or blood tests. Small deal, but the savings encourages us to bring them there for this service often for the sake of the pet's best health. Again, I will say, if you are in a bind, it's an emergency, and your love one needs help, they will do a fine job. Just don't let them sell you on unneccessary studies, frivillous over night stays, and be prepared to max out your credit card. Read Less

We are new to the area and had not established a veterinarian for our three dogs.  My husband and I had to take an emergency trip out of town leaving us with needing to find a place to board our dogs very quickly.   With only two days to try to find some place to board the dogs I was not able to find a veterinary hospital that did boarding also which was not already fully booked.  I took our dogs to a regular dog daycare that also offered overnight boarding. While our doggies were there one of our little Yorkies got injured very bad in her spine at the neck area.   I took her to Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Las Vegas.  Blue Cross Animal Hospital is a AHHA Accredited animal hospital which means that they go to great extremes over other animal hospitals and veterinarians to be among the best of the best in everything they do. I was very thrilled to find them.   Dr Coats was very thorough and I am happy to say that three weeks later our little Yorkey is doing very well.   The staff at Blue Cross animal Hospital was also very good. One of the first things I noticed was how they actually acted like they loved all of the furry patients that was coming in.   They are very conscientious of helping you as quickly as they can. I have nothing but good to say about Blue Cross animal Hospital in Las Vegas.    I'm so happy to have found them. My three doggies will be permanent patients with Dr. Coates and Blue Cross animal hospital Las Vegas, NV. Read Less

Dr. Lewis and the entire staff at Blue Cross Animal Hospital are the prime example of what a veterinarian hospital should be like. They are attentive, caring, knowledgeable and flexible. I bring my dog and my mother's three cats here for everything. They make me a better pet parent by keeping me informed and scheduled for my pet's health. They're just like family to my pets! I couldn't be happier with this facility and their staff. You won't find a better place where you and your pet feel welcomed and take care of with the most modern technology and treatments! We've taken all three of our pets to this practice, 4 times now. Each time we've seen a different vet. I guess, on our part, it's our own fault for not requesting the same vet each time we've visited. But nonetheless, usually when you go to a people doctor, you see the same doctor. So from now on we're just going to request which vet we'd like to have see our pets. I don't recommend Chris Lewis. Only because he shrugged off our questions as if our concerns were substandard, even when I tried explaining we had done a lot of research on each of our pets specific breeds and breed specific issues. Another thing i'd like to mention is that our families are located in various parts of the country, so we travel a lot. Seeing how this practice had a seemingly clean facility, we decided to go ahead and board all three pets (2 dogs and a cat) for 4 days. When we picked them up their behavior was extremely odd. They've been boarded before and have shown tons of excitement upon seeing us when we pick them up... but this was different. There was the excitement of seeing us, but they were very very VERY shaken. Every little sound (accidentally dropping the keys too hard on the counter) made the doggies tails go down and between their legs and they acted as if they were going to be beaten or something. Our cat has been 100 times more clingy than ever ever since, mind you this was 2-3 months ago. We just decided never to board them there again... maybe we spoil our pets, or my intuition is over sensitive, but they are our babies. This vet practice was not designed for boarding. Read Less

I would recommend blue cross to anyone looking for an honest vet. I have seen both female doctors and together they had my jack russel Milo on a treatment plan. I was given an estimate before hand of what they thought should be done and they really really took the initiative to help me understand why Milo needed the treatment. During the treatment they were fast with callbacks both from the techies and the dr's. I was impressed with the kindness and effort that was put in to ensure the treatment was working. Well in the end they were correct and Milo has never been better. Blue Cross will continue to serve my pet needs and I would highly recommend them to friends. Tim Read Less

My dog almost died at another vet (Companion Animal Hospital) I took my dog from Companion and rushed her to the LV Animal Emergency Room where she needed Oxygen and a Transfusion because Companion Animal Hospital let her Red Cell count get so low she was near death. After two nights in the ER the ER Doctor Bercier (who was wonderful and saved her life) suggested Blue Cross AH as a regular Vet. I took my dog there for follow-up care and I have to say that Blue Cross did every test they could think of to figure out why my dog had an immune problem and how to properly treat her to bring her back to health. LV Emergency Room stablized my little Lucy and Blue Cross took over and now ""Lucy"" is back in good health. I am forever grateful to both the LV ER and Blue Cross Dr Lewis and Dr Tact. I don't know for sure but I think they did tests on Lucy that I didn't even pay for. It matters which vet you take your animal too. Blue Cross is my vet for life. Read Less

Read Less

No, I was on hold for 16 minutes before I hung up and called back.Upon calling back, the woman was extremely rude and cut me off. I was asking for a written prescription for pet food. She actually cut me off and said "well that's not going to happen!" with a laugh. And then she kept interrupting me asking if a verbal authorization was ok. Had she listened to me, she would have known that I was in no rush for the prescription so had they been very busy and needed to get to it later, that would have been fine. Again not the hospitals fault, but I would think they would notice if they spent any time with them. They keep them in the kennel, let them out a few min a day on concret back yard. They put no love and care into it!!! I had them bathed, that's what I got bath..nails not trimmed not brushed nothing! I supplied a bed with a blanket, the blanket was never used & I never got it back. Don't board your pups here!!! The vets are great not boarding! Read Less

September 25, 2015Dear Dr. Tack, Dr. Wiggers, Susie T. and BCAH family,I would like to thank everyone for the beautiful flowers I received after Teddy's passing. It was a very thoughtful gesture of sympathy. BCAH is and has always been a class act. Thank you to Dr. Tack and Dr. Wiggers for providing excellent care to Teddy; especially during his last six months. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the BCAH family for always being responsive to my telephone calls of concern and making the time to see Teddy, even on a moment's notice. BCAH's professionalism and customer service excels over all the other veterinarian offices I have previously patronized.  Dr. Tack, you have an awesome staff; everyone is very professional and compassionate, and they make every "parent" feel that their "kid" is like family to them.  A very special thank you must go to Dr. Tack for coming to my home when it was time to say goodbye to Teddy. It was very important to me for Teddy to be in the comfort of his home and my arms, at that moment in time. Most Sincerely,Betty Ruark Read Less

Our 2 year old Cat named Lil Bear (she's a girl), was having some digestion trouble a few weeks ago and starting defecating outside of the litter box. I made an appointment with Julie an appointment manager and she worked so fast to get me in to see a doctor. I met Dr. Tack for the first time and he took his time looking at her to see if she had any abnormalities with her stomach. It was such an amazing experience. Prior to Lil Bear's visit, we have brought our boy cat in for vaccinations and it was also a fantastic experience.
