Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care

Las Vegas, Nevada
General Info
The Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care facility in Las Vegas bases its care on pets' long-term expression patterns to implement proactive methods across Nevada homes. During initial visits animals experience a focus on comfort where they have the opportunity to settle and explore the space while expressing their reactions at their own pace. Before initiating physical examinations, the veterinary team monitors subtle indicators such as eye movements and tail positions along with gait modifications and pressure responses. Physical checkups involve examinations of joint tracking hydration analysis weight monitoring gum tone coat texture and thermal regulation patterns. Owners participate in the observational process by tracking morning routines alongside sleep patterns and vocal tendencies while noting any recent behavioral deviations. Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care delivers intricate treatment plans addressing acute medical crises alongside surgical interventions while managing seasonal health variations and chronic conditions. Support encompasses laboratory testing services along with imaging referrals while also including infection prevention measures and senior animal care protocols together with emotionally-informed recovery checklists. The arrangement of plans follows a specific order to minimize stress while keeping pet owners informed without causing overwhelm particularly those dealing with multiple pets or intricate health conditions. Communication is central. Post-visit notes dispatch after each appointment while follow-up sessions depend on pet adaptation progress instead of fixed calendar prompts. The instruction provided to owners enables them to detect minute regression indicators as well as readiness markers for progression. Long-term care involves the implementation of pacing mechanisms alongside choice-based scheduling while incorporating reassurance strategies. The Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care system delivers animal healthcare throughout Las Vegas and Nevada by interpreting both animal symptoms and family input to develop consistently empathetic and reliable treatment plans from beginning to end.

Been there several times with both of my pets. I have mixed feelings about this place. I think it really depends on what Doctor you get & whose working. For being an after hours e.r. the $90 pet exam fee is fairly reasonable, although additional tests & treatments can get a bit pricey, and if you have a cat you will probably need A LOT of tests to find out the problem. Expect to pay $600-1500. Last summer I took my cat there with 106.7 fever & they saved his life. However the last few times I’ve taken him he’s been seen by different doctors. They seemed very concerned about collecting money. I was $7 short for much needed bloodwork. When I let them know they altered the plan of treatment to still make sure I spent The entire $300 but could cover with the cash on hand. The blood work was probably the most important tool for diagnosis. I had to take him back a few hours later & he saw a different Doctor. It’s now a week later & the treatment they prescribed isn’t working & he’s getting worse. I still have no answers to what’s going on so it looks like he’s going back tonight. Read Less

Last weekend I had to bring in my dog for an injury. I was so worried and stressed out, wasn't sure what exactly the injury was or the extent of the injury, and my dog was very uncomfortable when we went it. When your pet is hurt or sick it can be a very upsetting experience and I can say that the staff at Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care were very helpful and made the situation as positive as it could be. Their customer service was great and I especially appreciated the vet tech that worked with us and Dr. Sherer. They gave me all the information I needed, and allowed me to ask as many questions as I needed. Other vets I have felt rushed at and would later feel I had unanswered questions, but not here. I am sure they ended up answering some questions for me twice! Also, I have been to other vets where I have spent a lot of money because they recommended excessive treatments or testing that was not necessary for the stage of care we were at. At my previous vet, I don't think they were as interested in my pet's care as they were in bringing in extra dollars. Dr. Sherer gave me his best and honest recommendation for care, but did not over prescribe treatments that weren't necessary and wouldn't be helpful. I also called to follow up about my dog's progress and was again met with attentive and helpful staff. I would DEFINITELY recommend someone to visit this vet hospital, and I feel very confident and comfortable coming back here again if I ever need to! Thank you so much for taking such good care of us! Our dog is named Gutta like Gutter. We got him from someone and that’s what they named him. So tonight when he got sick, my husband and I rushed him to VE-CC. The Vet tech and Vet herself was calling him Gutta like Gutta cheese. I’m so embarrassed about his name, I usually tell people his name is Torro. Anyways, thought my dog was dying, rushed him in, turns out to be a back problem. When I say rushed him up there, that means I had time to go over my finances and decided I could afford to spend up to $2,000. Only now am I able to write about my experience. Our sweet baby 10 month young, orange tabby, Luke, began sleeping a lot and I noticed his stomach was swollen, so I took him to this hospital. The staff was professional, empathetic and efficient from the moment I arrived. Within minutes we were in a room and they took my baby to triage. Within about 10 minutes the doctor returned to deliver the devastating news. I don't remember much after, I can't remember her name, I don't remember calling my loved ones to come say goodbye, but I remember her saying, "If he was mine, I would let him go." Our baby boy, the sweetest, most beautiful orange tabby, contracted FIP, and now that I've learned more (95% mortality rate and such suffering), I know we made the right decision. I do remember the doctor (I'd love to know her name) administering the medication in the most peaceful, empathetic, loving, caring manner I'd ever witnessed. Because of her compassion, our beloved Luke passed peacefully on Saturday, January 20th at 9:17 a.m. in his daddy's arms. With all my heart, I thank you. 😢 Read Less

It took us between 1-2 hrs to collect it. The poor boy was suffering. It annoy me that we were working hard too collect the money and they didn't do anything till we hang them the amount. I understand that we have to pay and we were. But they need to understand that hardly anyone has that amount laying around. He die in there, blaming it on something else. I'd like to give more stars as I am grateful they are taking care of our cat but the front desk is just too incompetent. First, we were given two estimates. We agreed to one and signed another form saying we disagreed to the other. We go to check out and they ask for a deposit. No one could explain to us what the deposit was...they kept pointing at the paper saying this is your estimate and at one point even said we owed the amount for both estimates.  Just FYI: a deposit is usually a set amount or a percentage of the total amount. Even still, they never explained it or understood our question, we just signed up for care credit and said screw it. Over the weekend we had heard from a few different doctors. Each had something entirely different to say. Which was also frustrating. But ultimately they all said he was doing well. The only poor thing I have to say about their back office staff; is that they don't seem to manage their patients very well. Our cat has been there for 2 days and 3 nights... he's had a catheter in and has managed to pull it out multiple times. This could be under staffing or I could be ill informed on the difficulty of catheters and cats. But for how much hey kept saying this is a common thing you would think they would have a better procedure in place. Finally, I was told at 10:30 am I could pick up my cat by 12:00 pm. So I arrive at 12:10 pm and I was told "oh I wish someone would have told me" I said "I was told at 10:30 am he would be ready by 12" to which the front desk person responds "oh well the doctors aren't aware our systems are down at this time" AFTER SITTING IN THE LOBBY FOR 45 MINUTES, I'm finally told that the only possibly way for them to release my cat is to leave a credit card authorization and they will refund whatever is owed back to me afterwards. Excuse me ?! I've already paid... you have my information... the other girl sitting up at the front (gossiping none the less) even mentioned she knew I had paid with care credit. I get that I may have a balance but it is not my problem that your system is down. It has now been 2 hours and no one has called me to tell me I can pick up my cat. I am beyond frustrated and irate. I will never bring my animals here again, I will gladly find another emergency clinic where the front desk staff has a higher IQ than a toddler. Read Less

I've thought a lot about whether I needed to write this review. It's difficult because I can only imagine how stressful it must be for these vets, especially when they work primarily with pets in critical and emergency situations. I brought my puppy here because I believed it to be the most competent veterinary service in Las Vegas. I was even backed up a number of times at primary vets, where they made statements like "Well if VE+CC said that, it must be true." However, I think it should be said that VE+CC is not going to save every animal. And owners should be cautious and questioning and relentless in finding the best solutions for their pets. We brought our dog here probably 5-6 times in his short life. Every time we decided to do everything the vets suggested, until the day that he died. Multiple visits and thousands of dollars without answers can really wear a person down. My dog was hospitalized last year for vomiting and after a number of tests and suggestions that maybe he was poisoned, VE+CC diagnosed him with Addison's disease. He was prescribed medicine and everything went well until about 6 months later when he began pacing and panting and staying up all night. I brought him to my primary vet, who did an Xray and recommended I take him back to VE+CC because he suspected a liver shunt and didn't have the tools to treat him properly. I took him back where he was hospitalized again and released the next day without any explanation for his symptoms. They ruled out both liver problems and Addison's Disease. We were scheduled to return in two weeks "as long as he's not having any issues. If he is, bring him back sooner."A week later, he started showing the same symptoms and we brought him in again. His vitals were good so they prescribed him some anti anxiety and pain meds. Another week later it happened again and I tried calling the vet. She was unable to return any of my calls but did email me saying she couldn't explain his symptoms and to take videos of his episodes to look at during the followup. A few days later we brought him in for the last time. The emergency vet informed us that our puppy had ammonia levels so high they couldn't take a reading. This was said to be due to either a liver shunt or liver failure. Our dog had been refusing every kind of food and we had been feeding him chicken, beef, and rice... which releases ammonia that can't be filtered by a faulty liver. We had informed the vets about his new diet previously and since they said his liver looked fine they must not have thought about this possibility. We were told the cost of stabilizing him would be between $1,500-3,500 and then it would be determined if surgery would need to be done to see if he had liver shunts. I was shocked because I had already hospitalized him twice and now they were telling me that the liver that they ruled out twice before is the culprit. I couldn't believe they were asking me to pay this money yet again. After looking clearly at the situation and the serious issues that my 1.5 year old puppy was facing so early in life, we decided to put him down. It's frustrating that although I brought my dog in more than once for the same symptoms and called and emailed the vet a number of times, no one thought it would be a good idea to bring him in earlier for a followup. It's frustrating that my dog was misdiagnosed with Addison's disease and that his symptoms worsened over two weeks due to a liver they told me was healthy. I understand that no one can get it right every time. I just felt that the vets were always very busy and weren't able to really do everything they could to put their heads together and figure this out. The worst part is, when I called for a followup after my dog had passed asking what may have caused this, our vet suggested he had been poisoned. She refused to suggest it was anything else. We later met with our primary vet for a second opinion and he believed that a liver shunt was still a possibility even though they may not have seen it on two separate ultrasounds. I will say that up until the day that our dog died, I really liked this place. I didn't feel comfortable going anywhere else. I felt like they knew and cared about my dog. I can't blame anyone specifically for what happened to him, I only urge people to get second opinions. Even if VE+CC is the only place that can do certain tests or procedures, take those results somewhere else to see if something may have been missed. I'm sure they do the best that they can but sometimes it's not enough. It's unfortunate that with animals, owners have to sometimes make a difficult decision of whether to treat an animal and pay thousands of dollars or not. The entire experience haunts me every day and I'm constantly asking what I could have done differently. Read Less

I truly don't know where to begin. Since there's too much to write I'll just get to the point. My beloved Dalmatian who was only four years old was put down last week due to their incompetence and inhumane staff. Dr. Smee is an absolute joke. We paid $500 for an ultra sound that was never gone over with us nor faxed to the other veterinarian (who requested numerous times) that was involved. We paid just shy of $3,000 for nothing to this office that should be shut down. During visitations, the staff would bring him in with his lower extremities covered in urine, bile leaking from the NG tube and his face covered with snot. Asked numerous times to speak to management and was unsuccessful. Find another veterinary hospital to go to if you love your pet. Read Less

We cannot thank the amazing staff, from receptionists to techs to nurses to vets in helping save our pup, Luke. We brought him in on Sunday night in seemingly stable condition, but while we were there he suffered a massive seizure and his condition was very poor. Had we not been in such good hands, there's no way he would have survived! We were very, very concerned, but the staff was amazing at keeping us up to date and making us feel as though Luke was in the best hands possible. After that first night, he stabilized and was in pretty good shape aside from some pulmonary edema that was still causing him some trouble. Thanks to the amazing facility, he was able to spend a good amount of time in an oxygen cage, which drastically helped his respiratory rate. Luke came home today and his long term prognosis is amazing as long as we keep him on anti-convulsants. To go from a stable dog, to possibly losing him, to being able to bring him home within a few days has been a whirlwind, but we are so incredibly grateful to have had access to this fantastic office! While I hope to never need their services again, I would absolutely go there first thing should an emergent need arise! I cannot thank everyone enough and I cannot recommend them enough! Unless you absolutely have to go here, AVOID at all costs. West Russell Animal Hospital is 100 times better, and they actually care about the animals. No one at this establishment cares. Read Less

Veterinary Emergency + Critical Care

Las Vegas, Nevada
(39)
8650 W Tropicana Ave #104
Las Vegas Nevada 89147

😢 Read Less

We paid just shy of $3,000 for nothing to this office that should be shut down. The trauma of loosing a loving pet suddenly and so helplessly is overwhelming and this team took amazing care of all of us! Dr. Hoff so patient and compassionate in his explanations to us and helping us through the process of saying goodbye... we are so very grateful! Thank you for everything! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!!!Read Less

Some veterinary hospitals just run up bills and this hospital is one of them. We spent about $3,000 for nothing....just because of all the TESTS they have done (which probably most are not necessary). At the end of the day, the vet told us, they don't see anything wrong with my dog. But, there is something wrong with my dog. Still, up to now, he is in great pain & have a hard time walking. They could not find out what was wrong with him. I gave up, I didn't want to spend any more money for MORE TESTS!! for sure...they will run up the bill again. Will never go back to this hospital. This Animal hospital took amazing care of our sweet 7 year old cat, Jackson. After rounds of testing, finding the proper diagnosis and taking the time to go the extra mile made our panic much more relaxed. The doctors and tech crew work long hours, longer than most you will ever meet. Of course clean and well set up. The doctors explaining things in a calm and sensitive way. Compassion is something many have lost. Not the case here. Would refer this place and the doctors to anyone and everyone, even had the thought about checking myself in if ever needed as they make people doctors look sad. LoL They covered everything and in a way that didn't make you feel stupid. Explaining how to do everything, they take the time, why? Because they truly care. What more could you ask for when handing over your furry children. Thank you again. Much loveRead Less

They gave my dog thorough & prompt care. I would take her back and also recommend them. The doctors, technicians, and reception staff were all very nice & professional. The only issue I have is that it was like pulling teeth to get the lab results and records to my primary vet. I had to keep making calls to follow up and make sure everything got sent. Read Less

I've used their services now twice. And I can say 100% that you can trust these people with all your heart to take care of your loved one. My first experience was one of great sadness because my Shih Tzu, Frankie, ended up passing away but that wasn't anything that they did..... obviously it was just that he had congestive heart failure and he didn't make it. My dachshund is there right now after a surgery that she had to have at another location, but we needed to have her at a place where there was 24-hour care. They have been nothing but gracious and kind; they love my Gracie girl and they're taking very good care of her. We hope to bring her home tomorrow after her stomach surgery. She ate a lot of rocks in the backyard that we're assuming she ate because she was eating cat poop, gotta love a tenacious dachshund. Anyway, absolutely bring your pets here if you're looking for good service comma kind people, and warm smiles. It makes you feel a lot better that your animals are there while you're home feeling helpless you know that they're not alone there.Read Less

The vet tech on the phone ask for the med names, I gave them all to her with the dosage, she then asked about the dogs weight and breed. We found a dog on the side of the road that was hit by a car. I called my animals vet that we normally go to and it wasn't about saving the dogs life. The response I received was all of our dr's are busy. I called to this vet at Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care where we had never been before and they told us they would work with us and to get the dog to them asap. We drove straight here and unfortunately the dog passed away minutes after we arrived, but as soon as we got here the staff ran out to meet us and ran the dog back to try and save her. I am changing vets just because of the warmth and helpfulness they displayed. Nate Strager Read Less
