We were referred to this Vet Office as well from Petco! Even Though The Owner Of "A Path 4 Paws", has been a complete nightmare, once we got our account organized, this office has been very good! After 3 other Vets, this office was the only one that could determine what was wrong with our newly adopted puppy and now on the right track for recovery! Camino Al Norte has been Fantastic! Beware of "A Path 4 Paws"! Our pup was very sick at adoption and this so called dog rescue had no care and blamed us, rather than accepting responsibility! I have taken many of my foster dogs to Camino. I usually do not have a long wait and the vets and staff have always been amazing. I unfortunately had to have one of those fosters put down and they were really incredible through the sickness and the day of. We had him cremated and they handled everything with Craig Rd Pet Cemetery and he was returned in under a week in a nice wooden box with a name plate, a paw impression in a frame with the Rainbow Bridge poem, and a little heart shaped seed at a very, very reasonable cost. I switched my own pets over here from a different vet because of the great experiences I had and am still having great experiences. The one day I had a longer wait was when they were assisting a rescue with some new dogs which I do not at all mind waiting for and they kept me updated throughout my wait. I cannot recommend them enough. I have seen Dr. Higgins, Abernathy, and Holsendolph and have no preference as they have all been awesome. Read Less

I moved here from PA three years ago and of course was terrified of who I would take my 4 babies to for their care. I was referred to Camino while buying dog food from Petco. Upon entering, I first noticed how clean and organized everything is. The receptionist and staff at the desk were so nice. Each time I go, I expect to pay out the butt for services- uhhhhh, Nope!! We fired Ann Road Animal hospital, because of a staff that was to busy to offer customer service and poor animal care. Switched to Camino Al Norte and immediately noticed that everyone at the front counter cares! That caring by them tells you about the Vets too. We have been going for over 3 years now and although sometimes the wait is a little long, we have never felt they were to busy to provide accurate care. We have never been sold unnecessary treatment and we have opted to buy some medication from on-line sources to save money with no problem getting a prescription authorized. Read Less

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I have been taking my dog here for almost a year till I finally got fed up with it and left to go to another vet. First off, they try to get you to pay for extra stuff your pet doesn't even need.  They prescribed antibiotics when my dog had a virus.  Our new vet said they never prescribe antibiotics for that virus! When I tried to board my dog with them, they said she needed to get the canine flu shot in order for her to stay there.  The new vet says she doesn't need that because the canine flu is rare in Las Vegas.  The hotel that I wound up taking my dog to didn't need it either.Also, when I tried to board my dog, they gave us a tour of the place, which was very nice of them. However when I called to reserve the run  (larger than a kennel), they were contradicting what they told me on the tour.  They told me that we are not allowed to bring her toys because quote, "they can get overprotective of their toys."  So basically she would be stuck in a run all day with just some blankets and that's it.  It's like us being stuck in a small hotel room with no phone, computer and tv. My dog is very energetic so we probably would have come back to a dog going crazy and acting out.Everyone here says something different everytime; they are never on the saw page There are other good vets and pet hotels around town.  Go to those instead. Stumbled upon this veterinarian when I moved into the area and I have to say it was the best thing I ever did for my Dog.  They have a very caring staff and the best prices. My dog Corona is loved by everyone there and she doesn't mind going to see the girls with plenty of treats behind the desk. The Doctors will take their time and answer any questions you have and they are open 7 days a week and you don't need an appointment, just walk in for great care. Read Less

I am so glad we left this place....from almost killing our basset hound from not one but TWO botched neutering jobs (came home to pools of blood on my bed) to recommending only puppy food for our Dane (fyi Danes are NEVER to get puppy food).The unprofessionalism of the staff never ceases to amaze me...didn't want to drive the 30min to our new vet for a nail trim on our Bassett so I call this morning to see if I just drop in. They say Yes.I ask if I need anything? Is your dog a patient of ours? I said he used to be but not anymore. They respond with 'just bring him in'. I ask 'no shot records?' 'Nope!'. I say OK and bring him in hours later. I arrive to hear 'we can't do any services on your dog at all since he's out of date on his shots'. I explain that he's not out of date but he goes somewhere else. They say well unless we can verify, we can't see him. Yes, they called and it was solved...but to arrive and get completely different info was absurd. Then it comes time to weigh my dog, which is apparently my job now too.Then they ask the staff next to them if they can go straight back....someone passing by says 'he should have made an appt'. Seriously!?From all of the issues in the past....the rotating vets (that know NOTHING about Great Danes)....to the staff.Even a nail trim isn't worth it.Trust me, find somewhere else....even if it is 30min away. When I took my dog into Camino Al Norte Animal, he was very lethargic and almost unresponsive. The staff at this animal hospital took him into their care and nursed him back to health. The staff is friendly. The procedure seems to have gone smoothly, but watch out for their "baths."We adopted Charley from Adopt a Rescue Pet at the Petco on W Charleston. He is adorable. I noticed he had some sand in his fur and some sort of gunk on his side. When offered to pay for a bath at the hospital I accepted. When we got him last night we got home and noticed the same sand and the same gunk. I called and alerted the receptionist who asked the doctor and confirmed that Charley had received a bath. I think she may have been confused because she said that since he had just been in surgery that he could not have had a bath. Upon further prodding she said he must have had the bath before the procedure. It's unfortunate that a great experience had to be soured by a $14 bath that clearly didn't happen. Read Less

Our small puppy got her shots and became very sick. 2nd time we came they gave her another shot and three days later she died. This vet didnt care of the dog only money. The prices we were offered was around 500 to just for a test and some pills. Two shots enough to kill our dog Read Less

I love this office. The doctors and staff are amazing. I have 3 dogs and 1 foster dog, so I get many surprises. Dr Higgins is my favorite, she gets down on the floor and gets to know the dogs, but I have seen many of the docs there and they are all great. Read Less

Update.....8-23-16 on July 8th we had to put our little hope ( she was 1 day away from being 2 mos old) down, she got sick again and took a bad turn. Again Dr Higgins was amazing. I rushed in by myself and she is very compassionate and let me stay until someone was able to take me home. we decided on a private cremation and they took care of all the details. Thank you for going the extra mile to help, during a very tramatic situation. --------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL....... JUNE 2016 Great neighborhood vet. 1st time had to call because my dog was having puppies for the first time and dr got on phone with me and answered all my questions. 2nd time was just yesterday. We had to rush one on the puppies to the vet because she was in real bad shape. Dr Higgins saw her and was awesome. She took the time to talk to us and helped save the puppy. If you can go here, it's worth the trip. The prices are reasonable, I'm on disability with a fixed-income and she let me know how much each thing was going to cost and the approximate total of the bill before she might ved on to the next step. the staff is cool and the dr is amazing. Maxie my schnauzer has a lump on her throat, so my husband took her to this pet vet to be checked ... Vet said she felt a little lump a few months ago when she was given the necessary shots but was never told us about it until 2 days ago ... She took specimen to be tested and will let us know the results in a couple of days .. No call , so we contacted them and they told us that the result was inconclusive due to not enough cells on the slide so reaspiration is needed.... So we have to wait until Monday because of the weekend (?) .... So no treatment until then .... In the mean time my Maxie is eating less n less ...Right now I am looking for another Vet and I will never recommend this Camino Al Norte Pet Hospital ... They also charged us more than they quoted us .... Next step will be contacting BBB ..... Read Less

We took our dog there and all they cared about was money. We couldnt afford all the treatment and they made us feel like bad parents. Even if we could they were having to refer us to a specialist for something they didnt know about, but first they wanted to charge us ALOT of money to do things that wouldnt have saved his life since thats what the specialist was for. I called to talk with the office manager and she gave me the same song and dance as the doctor. Just covering each other and their office. We've been coming here for almost 10 years. They used to be amazing. They have been going steadily downhill, and recently they've stopped even trying. The receptionist acts as though she has better things to do, while not listening to you spell you name over and over, then claiming they have no record of you, while your wounded pet whimpers beside you. i have gone to this place for years now.since dr v left this place could care less about your pet.everything they do is a scam to get more money from you .1500 bucks spent trying to save my dogs life only to be put down 2 weeks later.my other pup 800 bucks the meds they gave me were a joke and that dog was put down .now my 3rd dog after having his nails done and taken in the back wont come near me and runs and hides .wtf did they do to him in the back room .then the dr. puts meds in my dogs nose and cuts the inside of it open and he is in need of medical attention and i cant afford to pay for there mistakes .dont ever take ur pet here trust me . REVISED 4/13/14- I have recently become very dissatisfied with this clinic. Dr. Varela left (moved out of state) a year ago, and it has all been down hill ever since. I have taken my dogs to see every vet that is there and have had unsatisfactory experiences with all of them. I will say that Dr. Snead ( the practice manager) is pretty good and helpful, but the reality is that Dr. Snead cannot be there every day. I feel like the vets are only interested in jacking up your bill. And I am not someone who blinks an eye at spending what is needed for my dog's care. I took one of my dogs in today for an ear infection. We saw Dr. H because Snead was off today. Dr. H took my dog from the exam room so she could "take a look" in his ear. I left w/ a $125 bill because apparently "taking a look" in the ear translates to taking a swab $35, cleaning the ear (which i had already done)$15, and giving me "ear drops" that they make in their office $20. Today was the last straw. I'll take my 5 dogs and my business elsewhere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ THE BEST VET IN LAS VEGAS!!!!!! I have had animals all my life and I currently have 5 dogs, so I am a frequent customer of Camino Al Norte Animal Hospital. They are amazing! I have lived in Vegas for 25 years and had gone through a number of vets that just did not measure up. My search is over! Dr. Varela and his staff are really amazing! Dr. Varela is very thorough and caring. You can tell he truly cares about animals. He will spend as much time with you as you need and will discuss all the options with you. In fact there have been times that I have had to wait in an exam room for a bit, but I know it's only because he giving someone else the amazing service and advice that he is going to give to me when it's my turn. He never does unnecessary testing or procedures. If he doesn't feel a test is necessary he'll just tell you. He regularly tells me what he would do if this were his dog, which I find comforting and helpful. They are open 7 days a week, and they have an after hours emergency service. Their prices are the best in town. I am not a fan of boarding my pets, or really leaving them at the vet for any length of time. However, the dogs have had to stay for testing/observation at different times, and I know Dr. Varela and his staff take care of my pets like their own. And they never get annoyed when I call to check on my pet multiple times. The point is, if you are going to any other vet, you and your pet are missing out! I would HIGHLY recommend Camino Al Norte Animal Hospital to ANYONE in Las Vegas. If it's not near you, I promise it's worth the trip Read Less

I have taken my pets here since I moved here to north las vegas. Dr. Barton has been very understanding to my worries and my pets needs. I believe this vet is very well priced. they have not pushed things on me like pervoius vets back in California. they give me options for my pets needs. I have been given excellent service from all staff I have come into contact with. So far my favorite doctor is Dr Barton but my roommate has had the young African American man who they were very pleased with also. they accept care credit which is also a major plus. As a consumer, I believe it my duty to forewarn future clients who consider this establishment. Therefore, I am taking out the time to write this review to do my civic duty. First and foremost, very misleading practice. I always was keen to notice that this Hospital would push services or slide in some service you never authorized. Another ploy is they would put important paperwork before you while you are distracted (without reading it because you trust your vet...wouldn't think they would pull one over on you). Well, my naivety on that one proved costly last visit I ever took to their doors. Overall, pet care was not a priority...they leaned more towards the dollar signs. The Puerto Rican doctor barely takes the time to do the work you do pay for, exhibits little understanding or compassion, let alone expect him to go the extra mile for you or your pet. To this day, I will not comprehend why some choose a path when they clearly exhibit it is not one they are passionate about. This hospital is a disappointment and a let down to the community it serves. I expected upright individuals conducting a respectable business, not the polar opposite. The vet was good but the overall care of my cat was far below my standards and expectations. They fixed her but did not care!! They did not give mandatory shots even after being told she had no history of care. they over charged for basic treatment and i would never take my pets or recommend anyone to them .
