We had brought my sisters dog in on the 12th with severe leg pain. We were scheduled for 11am. We were in there past 11:30. When Jasmine an employee let us know they were short on vets and it would be a 3hour wait, but advised us there was an emergency hospital near by and they had openings. We got the address from here as she apologized we went straight to vet hospital. Mandy was seen right away. Found out her tibia was broken. Thank you A Plus Animal, for guiding us to another place. I took my dear dog Fred in to get neutered on 3/29. He ended up getting a scrotal hematoma! It was a difficult weekend, but A Plus Animal Hospital has done great making sure his health and healing is priority. I love the staff, they care about the animals and their customers, they have always got me in as soon as possible, I never had to wait long when I showed up. I've been using them as my emergency vet, they helped me get my friends dog vaccinated for animal control as he was out of town a lot and checked to make sure the chip was were it should be for me, I went twice too put my moms cats down due to age and health conditions, I wish my mom would let me help more with them and actually change vets because her current one does not seem to ever actually help as their health keeps gettig worse to the point I have to tell her it's time to put them down, honstley if they were closer I would use them as my regular vet. I do not think the service i got deserves any stars. I brought my cat here for a check up and his annual shots. I was worried that he might have worms because    my other cat had been treated for them previously, so I asked if he could be given the medicine for that. They gave him two vaccinations, and i was given an antibiotic to administer at home. A week later my cat became very sick. When I called A Plus back,and asked if this might be some kind of reaction to his shots, veterinarian Megan K. Wiltzius did not even give any explanation, and wanted to keep him over night for tests. I went to another vet and found out that a reaction a week later or after is very common, and he could be given something for it, and possibly recover if done soon enough. Also that one of the shots he received was not even needed on a yearly basis and probably caused the illness. However A Plus knew this as he was vaccinated there the previous year, and they said nothing. Now my once healthy and happy cat is struggling for his life because A Plus is a greedy and non caring business. If you value the health of your animal do not bring them here, and read up on all vaccinations before you get them. Read Less

We were visiting from out of town when our chihuahua injured his leg. The staff got us in quickly.  They treated our little one with care. The Doctor was excellent taking the time to go over the X-rays in detail and diagnosed his injury as a soft tissue injury. My dog also needs her dew claws out so, naturally, they wanted to pair these two procedures up. Unfortunately, in my attempt to get clarity on the costs, Dr. Gallagher decided to tell me I can't tell a Vet how to treat my dog, nor how to quote procedures even if they quote for unnecessary treatments and excessive costs. Your dog does NOT need antibiotics every time they get their teeth cleaned. They do NOT need x rays when they are in for a cleaning. I as the owner do NOT need to pay for extractions that shouldn't happen, x rays that are unnecessary for this specific procedure nor accept that just because the Vet says "that's what it is", that i am obliged as a client to pay for unnecessary costs. I would consider looking for other vets in town that are more honest about costs, honest about what's necessary and not and have a sense that the Client and their pets are the ones providing their paychecks. Very pleased with the service and staff that took such great care of my baby Roxy who under went surgery today. The sutures were done flawlessly and they even cut her nails out of courtesy! Although, I ended up paying more than I expected, the staff made sure to bring to my attention exactly what I was paying for and the reasoning behind such. I have a 2 year old boxer and I have taken her here since she was a puppy and everytime I go, the staff are super friendly, professional and they can deal with my super hyper dog. Plus they're fast! I take my German shepherd to this vet. I took her for her annual exam. My granddaughter, who is 3, came with me. She brought her baby doll and asked the dr to look at her. Dr Velotta was awesome. She listened to the dolls chest and said yes I think does need some medicine. She let the room and the assistant came in with a dropper and a little bottle of "medicine"-Cough medicine- give every day with love". I was so appreciative theat they went the extra mile. My dog, Reyna, is always treated well at this office. Yes, they may be a bit more expensive that some other vets, but I believe that you get what you pay for... evidenced by my visit yesterday!!!Read Less

We started going here when our 16 year old cat developed diabetes.  Vet resisted trying to help us get insulin from Walmart, preferred we spend $125 a  month.  Finally wrote prescription after my son did all of the research.  Then they decided we had to have annual checkup, okay.  The $45 appointment turned in $75, no doctor, technician only.   Then we had to come back for doctor appointment and blood work, $100 or so.  We had to have these annual exams or no new prescriptions for her other medicine.Well yesterday our beloved cat, now 18, couldn't move her legs.  Son called A Plus at 3 pm (they close at 4) and said he thought it was time to help her pass away.  He was told NO!  No appointments, too late in the day.  He explained again.  NOPE, call somewhere else.  No compassion, no caring, nothing.  He ended up at a local emergency Vet place and yes, she was dying and they eased her journey.  Total strangers treated my son better than the place we have spent two years with.Extremely disappointed with this place. These people are great. I boarded my dog with them for the first time and seeing stuff, other vets, on the Internet and Facebook really made me nervous. They went above my expectations and were amazing to him. He had an ear infection that they took care of while he was there, it was an overall stress-free great experience. Def would recommend them. They have gotten to money hungry. The as two times I brought two different pets in they always do 2 things; 1) xray ($100) 2) they want to keep them overnight ($200+) even when it is not necessary. I brought an pet in on a Sunday when they were normally open and they charged me an emergency fee? Really because I didn't have an appointment? I would have came back with an appointment. They wouldn't even look at my pet without a deposit of $250 (a cash register in the room really?) and lo and behold the visit cost me $250.....amazing. I have several friends who feel the same way and have stopped going. I miss the vet that was at Prater who truly cares about the pet. If anyone can suggest a good old country vet who cares about pets and tries not to gorge you with charges and will work with you if you the bill is large I would appreciate it.Read Less

Entire staff was courteous and attentive to mine and my pet's needs. My pup was having a urgent health issue and I called and they got my in right away. Dr. Hicks took the time to listen to my concerns and explained the options while taking my finances into consideration. She sent us home with detailed directions for her recovery and even called to check on her. I know that I can always call the office with a question and it will be answered and I throughly thank Dr. Hicks and the rest of the A Plus staff for their patience and support in helping to get my pup back to A plus health. They mis-diagnosed my dog. I went to another vet and figured out there was nothing wrong with him and that I had wasted money on blood tests every three months and medicine for everyday twice a day. This went on for over three years. We have been taking our little dog to this place for 7 years, every time we take her she comes home more sick than when we took her in. So we have always had to take her back to find out what happened. They have ALWAYS charged us for the "come backs", never willing to waive the fee. One time they over medicated her so bad and made her so sick that we thought for sure she was going to die, of course they again charged us for the return visit even though they admitted it was their fault and they were normal routine vaccines. Our baby was healthy and only went to vet for check ups and vaccinations. Yesterday I took her in and they suspected she had pneumonia, insisted upon keeping her overnight to continue medication, but left her completely unattended. They called us this morning to inform us that our little baby had passed away. Worse yet, she died alone, which is really hard on my wife because the dog was really attached to us and loved our company....so allowing her to die while in the care of a "hospital" while unattended is not acceptable to us. Then, THEN they gut punch us again and tell us we cannot have our babies body back unless we agree to pay the bill for the poor service. After some simple searching I have found others that have had similar experiences. You can take your beloved pets here if you wish, but you have been warned. And don't be fooled by their friendliness, there a horrible people in every profession. When we roll her in for her routine check up on December 2nd she again became sick shortly after the visit. Now she is gone. Our little silky terrier was a beloved member of our family and will be dearly missed. This place seem more about the dollar than the care. So now we will have a simple ceremony and bury our babies toys and blankets, and they are free to toss her body in the trash to make a statement against a client. Our baby has been set free, her spirit sent to heaven. and she will no longer be tormented by these beastly people! I will keep updates as I get them.Read Less

Our cat Karl was adopted from the local animal shelter. At the time, we didn't know that he had a liver disease that would eventually become fatal. The people at the animal shelter wouldn't help. We had him for a short period, but bonded with him instantly, he was one of our family. Long story short, he became very ill and we took him to A Plus. The staff was very prompt, polite, and within the first 30 minutes, Karl's blood was sampled, diagnosed, and he was sedated. We had lab results within the first hour of him being admitted. His liver was failing. We decided to have him euthanized at that moment... I MUST ADMIT, I HAVE NEVER HAD CUSTOMER SERVICE(At any animal hospital, human hospital, or business for that matter) AS WONDERFUL AS THE STAFF HERE PROVIDES. The hospital staff was extremely helpful and compassionate in our time of loss, which meant a lot to us! But it was only in the period after our loss to which we experienced the caring, thoughtful kindness these great people provided us. Sometimes the small things in life, are the most wonderful, and the staff had mailed us a sympathy card for our Karl a few weeks after his passing. Personalized and signed by every staff member... Now mind you, that this was the first time ever we had used this hospital. They didnt know us or our Karl, but that card, showed us they really cared. Not too long after that, we got a second card in the mail saying they had made a donation on behalf of Karl to the Arbor Day foundation, and that a tree will be planted and registered in Tahoe National Forest. Each and every person working here was kind, polite and did an amazing job with my sweet dog. The Vet we met with, Jody, was thorough with her exam and explaining the diagnosis. They were ably to fit us in within a half hour of our arrival without an appointment... they were honest about their pricing... and even let me know I could by heart worm medicine for lessonline... which I will not do. High quality care and service with reasonable pricing...Taking your pet to A Plus Animal Hospital is a no brainer if you have a family pet that needs a doctor.. Ask questions and they will get answered. This is a full service animal hospital. Not a Farm vet. They give you choices and do not try to gouge your pocket book with unnecessary procedures that you might not want, but they have all the whistles and bells if you choose those services. They "do not" have after hours emergency services though. But there is an emergency animal vet down the street that is also expensive, yet it is for emergency services. Read Less

I recently took my puppy here. She was nervous but the vet and technician were extremely quick with the vaccines. They have dog treats in the waiting room, which is a cute plus. Everything was easy and clean. The front desk ladies were especially helpful and friendly. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because I asked for the vet review paperwork and never received it. I will be returning again in 3 weeks and am planning to stick with this vet. My small 4 lb dog was very sick and they were SO nice and pretty fast for a walk in visit I was surprised.  Everyone was very supportive and friendly and caring for my situation with my dog. I felt it was pricey for a visit then it was overnight OUCH. But they were good about calling to let me know how she was doing and I was able to go get her the next day with meds in hand. We brought our Autumn here on two occasions in the past month, fortunately for nothing serious. The staff has been very helpful, patient, and welcoming on both occasions. Despite asking so many questions in my case, they thoroughly explained answers and never gave me the impression that they were annoyed. Having a furbaby is a lot of responsibility and you want the best for them!Luckily we live within walking distance to this location and they have convenient business hours. I believe they are open 7 days a week, so that gives me a little peace of mind knowing they are right there should I ever urgently need them. Their rates on services, for the types that we have received thus far, are pretty average. They have a nice and clean office, which is a definite plus, and I really couldn't ask for more from a local pet hospital - no wonder why they always look busy! However, on that note, it is best to make an appointment, if you can land one in advance, to save yourself some money and waiting time. I have been taking my cat, India, here for a few years. She has had minor health issues over the years and I continue to buy a special urinary tract food for her from this animal hospital, since the price is less here than online.Overall, I like this place. Everyone is pretty friendly and accommodating to mine and my cat's care and comfort. I had an issue a couple of months ago that I felt was urgent, and although they were booked and it was a Saturday, they allowed me to bring my cat in late in the afternoon to get checked out. I was grateful for that and they got her into good shape again.I think this place is a bit pricey, which is why I knock off a star, but I pay the costs because my cat is basically my child. This place goes way above and beyond when it comes to customer service!!Our first visit, they came highly recommended! We were looking for a new vet. I called I was greeted politely on the phone, and made an appointment. I asked if they could call to get me in sooner if there was a cancellation, and not a day later they worked Us in!The vet was very nice, explained everything in her exam throughly. The whole building is kept very clean. The reception area is very open, and there are aquarium videos playing to ensure a soothing environment.On the second visit, we had such a great first check up, my dog was due for vaccines so we scheduled an appointment to go back. We walked in, and my dog was "pet of the day". This includes a picture of your dog on their chalkboard I'm the front, a Baggie full of goodies (toys) and a free nail trim. I had an emergency with one of my dogs on a Sunday, since they are normally very healthy they had not been in to see their vet in awhile so I was not up to date on the days and hours that A+ Animal hospital was open. I used Google to bring up their information, unaware they had not bothered to update it, I ended up taking my dog to an emergency vet hospital instead of his own vet. Having a pet emergency is stressful enough for both pet and owners without having to search for an open emergency place you have never been and complete strangers to entrust the care of your pet to. The website still has the wrong information on it, I only found out that I could have taken my dog to A+ instead of the Emergency vet when I went in for a follow up and saw a small sign on the wall stating that they had changed to be open on Sundays about 5 months prior. You would think they would want to let people know this and update their website, it would have been helpful to have had that information at the time. Read Less

I already knew from Managing A Doggies Dream, that A Plus was the best, but after almost losing my precious little best friend Lila, my long hair Chihuahua...I had no doubt in my mind that this was the best veterinary facility I have ever experienced in my 46 years! Not only did they save her life after a serious dog attack, but every person I experienced had the best bedside manner, care and compassion! Why are dogs seemingly always nervous about the vets office? I think it's totally normal. We teach our kids to naturally fear people who are overly friendly, offering gifts and treats to lure them into strange settings, but we ask our dogs to go willingly. Do you think our pets remember the acts of being ployed with treats, petting and hugging, just prior suddenly having a thermometer stuck you know where or an needle in their shoulder? Or do they just remember the insane amount of cookies they get when it's all done?Do you think our pets care about bedside manner or just the cookies? It's fun to ponder what goes on in our pet's heads, but that could take all day. This review is all based on 100% routine visits, one minor concern, and a little bit of boarding. A-Plus has always been a clean office to take Riley to for his shots. The docs have plenty of cookies on hand to get that thermometer or needle in where they need it, and they seem to genuinely care for the patients they see. No idea what it looks like in their boarding area, but Riley has always come home happy and healthy. The rates, at around $16 a day, seem reasonable for what you get, and they give you a fun report card when you pick them up. And back when we first got Riley we noticed he had a strange limp, so the Docs arranged for some x-rays and gave us the diagnosis. They were really fair, explaining he could grow out of it or we could do surgery that had a 50% chance of correcting the issue. We opted not to go through with it, and Riley is just fine today! People are particular about their vet, so I won't recommend anything. I'm just reporting our experience with A+, which has left us happy and with a healthy pooch. Read Less
