Dr. Graham is by far the best vet I have taken my cat to. She is amazing with my grumpy old kitty, and is extremely helpful and willing to answer all my questions and concerns. I called A Plus Animal Hospital when my cat was having issues urinating, I did some research myself about what the problem might be, and every site I looked at said it was an EMERGENCY, especially for male cats. So I called my cats original vet, which was A Plus, and they said the soonest they could get him in was the weekend, I called on a Wednesday. My cat could be dead by then so I called Galena afterwards and they were able to get me in that day since it was an emergency. Dr. Ford is an incredible vet and a caring and compassionate person.  We recently had some scary health issues with our 14 year old Australian Shepherd Maggie and Dr. Ford made sure that Maggie had the best possible care every step of the way.  He truly cared about her and was incredibly giving of his time.  I had weeks where I would call him several times per week and he always took my calls and never gave me any sense that he was rushing to get off the phone.  Quite the opposite in fact and several times he would just call on his own to check in and see how she was doing.  He truly is a wonderful vet and a great person as well.  I couldn't recommend him more highly. So, I am unlike most pet owners where I want the absolute best care for my fur baby. I took my new puppy to another vet in South Reno, and didn't feel satisfied. Therefore for his second round of vaccinations, we went to Galena Veterinary Hospital. From the get go the staff is extremely nice which makes you feel more comfortable. My puppy's assigned vet was Dr. Grahm, she was extremely knowledgeable and kind. She made me feel very comfortable to have her as our puppies vet. She answered all my questions and concerns and did her best to not only give a well explained answer but also gave reasoning behind her answer. Then the next morning they called me just to check on our puppy and make sure he was doing fine after his vaccinations. I've always had cats - and because they don't travel well, my vet is normally the one closest to my house.  I'll admit I was spoiled by living very close to Baring Vet for many years, so when I moved to South Meadows, I didn't have a clue where to go.  One thing I did know, was that Jasper wasn't driving across town to his old vet.  I first went to Damonte Ranch Animal Hospital and after a terrible first experience, I never went back.  So then I found Galena Veterinary Hospital and now this is my vet.  Dr. Ford is absolutely wonderful as are everyone else that works here.  The office has a few waiting rooms and is open on every other Saturday for appointments. The staff is friendly and you can tell they all love animals - even cats ;)Jasper has had a few things done at Galena Vet.  From checkups, to shots, to teeth cleaning and mass removal - they have been excellent!  They will give you treatment options and timelines (if available) too so you don't feel pressured.  For instance, Jasper's blood work came back that he might have beginning kidney disease.  But they test might have been a false positive so they want him back in a few months and to do more extensive lab work.  They assured me he is no pain and doesn't feel a thing.  They explained all of my options and what the price is going to be given the best and worst case scenario. Did NOT care for Priscilla at all, to the point of changing vets.  She was rude and made me very uncomfortable.  It was as if I was in the wrong for daring to have a human family instead of canine only.  I love my dogs, and most other dogs, but my human children are my priority.  When I would bring in my young children during a vet visit, she would browbeat them because they couldn't control a large, yet friendly, Labrador.  Naturally, I picked up the slack, but she would continue to rant, under her breath, of course.I like Dr. Ford, and I never had any issues with his care, but I am so much happier now at Mt. Rose Veterinary, a family-friendly vet.  All the staff there is "normal," with lives outside of their work. Dr. Ford and his amazing staff took excellent care of our dogs, Buddy-Ray, Tina-Louise, and Koffee. Buddy Ray was with him from the time Dr. Ford bought the practice until the day we had to say goodbye to Buddy 12 years later. Several months after we lost Buddy, we again had to say goodbye to our Beloved Tina, and about 3 years later to Koffe. We trusted Dr. Ford and he ALWAYS did the right thing for our fur babies! We found the staff compassionate and caring. If I ever have another fur baby, you can rest assured that he/she will be under Dr. Ford's care. Our dog in never a fan of veterinary offices,  but she loves this place!  They take their time to answer all of your questions thoroughly and if you have a question they aren't sure about,  they find out and call you back the same day.  They are very gentle with the animals and do their best to set them at ease.  I'm very happy we found these doctors! Dr. Ford has been caring for my animals for a little over 8 years and I refuse to take them anywhere else. He and his staff take great care in the needs of the individual animal and take in all aspects of the animal in to consideration when suggesting treatment. He was very kind and understanding when it was time to put down my 19 year old cat and now with the ailing of our 13 year old dog. I've been taking my two cats here since I've moved to Reno. It's convenient since it's literally blocks away from home, but I keep coming back because of the veterinarians and staff here. They've always been pleasant to work with, and I can really tell they love what they do. The vets take the time to talk with me and explain anything I need to know. One of my cats is somewhat prone to illness and I took him in yesterday because, with a history of bladder crystals, I was worried he was having problems again. With a quick centesis we discovered his crystals were back and he had a UTI. Dr. Ford took the time to explain the severity that a UTI in a cat can be, which I greatly appreciated. I hadn't realized how catastrophic it could be for a feline. So armed with that information I knew I had to keep and eye on him at home.Dr. Ford then took the time to call me today to check up on Sam. I greatly appreciate him taking his time out of the day to do that. It really shows he cares. I was planning to call him today to ask some questions I hadn't thought of asking at the clinic yesterday when I was upset, but thankfully don't have to try to get him on the line (I know how busy they can be). We got a new puppy and they have been great. Their four week puppy class teaches you puppy basics, but also teaches your dog to love going to the vet. The staff is friendly and caring. Dr. Ford is down to business, but knowledgable and thorough. **THIS REVIEW IS FOR DR. ERIN PRICE ONLY**I was looking for a local vet to take our mixed Chihuahua to as a new "patient". Her old vet had retired. Dr. Price and Galena Vet Hospital was referred to us, along with a couple of other places, and we picked Dr. Price simply based on good references and location.DR. PRICE IS WONDERFUL! She is patient, kind, mindful of her "patients' issues" when she's handling them (our dog is neurotic, she handled her very well!), and she is just overall really, really good with animals. You can tell she has a connection with them, and they with her. Our dog doesn't like anybody...but she warmed up to Dr. Price instantly. I knew immediately she was the one for us.We have been back 3 times now and I'm getting ready to make another appointment. I would have no reservations whatsoever about referring folks to Dr. Price. We thought she was just fabulous!5 STARS OVERALL - the hospital was clean enough (wasn't all stinky either!), Dr. Price was wonderful, prices VERY reasonable in my opinion, appointments easy to make, very nice staff...just a very positive experience for our dog as well - and that was the most important thing to us. I took my 16 week old German Shepherd here for his last vaccine, and this is what happened:Like any responsible puppy owner, I kept my puppy in my arms while I was there. Priscilla was especially crass and unprofessional to me when she brought me to the back to weigh him she very rudely asked me if his legs were broken and then demanded that I put him on the scale (that was not cleaned). I didn't want to, said I was worried because he isn't finished with vaccines yet and that he also didn't have the best start in life. She storms off like and angry two year old and mutters under her breath mocking my words "he didn't have the best start in life". I was not pleased with her. Another assistant, Kara, gladly cleaned the scale for me.Dr. Ford then did the same thing, demanded I put him on the floor for a physical exam. Again I explained why I didn't want to, and I was given more attitude. You ask any decent breeder, veterinarian, or ANYONE that knows anything about dogs and they will tell you not to let a puppy touch anything outside of their own home until they are finished with vaccines. I am still amazed that no one at this hospital seemed to know that.My sister and I had a bad experience here before when we had to put her Weimaraner to sleep. I thought maybe it was just because it was under such lousy circumstances that we weren't thrilled with this hospital, so I figured I would give them a second chance. But I will not be returning after TWO lousy visits. Some of the staff are friendly and I have no problems with, but others seriously need to work on their professionalism and friendliness with people. Read Less

Dr. Ford is amazing. He takes his time going over pre-op and follow-up treatment plans each time I go in. My first experience was taking my Dacschund in (which we adopted) to have nearly a dozen teeth extracted due to severe decay and halitosis - it was brutal. Our dog also has a heart murmur. Dr. Ford took all of this into consideration and went over it thoroughly with me in the blood panel, and choice of anesthesia since some can cause adverse affects to their hearts and our dog is now living much happier and healthier, albeit with a bit of a hillbilly smile now. Moving to a new place, it's always a bit hit or miss to find a new veterinarian.  Especially when you are looking because one of your pets is sick and needs care ASAP!  I found myself in this situation on a Friday afternoon, which was particularly difficult because not many vets in the area are open on the weekends.  Desperately wanting to avoid the high costs and questionable care of an emergency vet, I chose Galena mostly because they were open on Saturdays.  That said, I am so glad I did!  Dr. Price is amazing.  She is thorough and spends a ton of time talking with you, explaining the diagnosis, options to treat, etc.  I feel like I can ask her anything and she is not in a rush to move on to the next client.  She handled my two cats with the utmost of care, and even related her own personal experiences with her animals.  As a lifelong cat owner and frequent mover, I've dealt with several vets and she is definitely in the top two!  Don't hesitate to take your pet children for a visit to Dr. Price. As a new resident of Reno it was very important to find a good vet for our 12 Y/O dog. As usual, I use Yelp reviews to try and guide my way. We have had our first appointment and need to go back for a teeth cleaning and a removal of a skin issue. So far, I have been nothing less than fully pleased and impressed with the team that works there, from the front desk staff to Dr. Price. They have been helpful in getting our dog the right food, have shown great care for our dog, and have been terrific at communicating. This will definitely be our permanent Reno vet. Read Less

I used Galena Veterinary Hospital not under good circumstances.  We had a 13 year old German Shepherd that needed to be put down.GVH is close to where we live so we decided to ask them to help us do this emotionally painful task.We got there a little after 4PM and carried our dog in, we were put in a examination room with our dog and they brought in some blankets.  The staff at that time was friendly and helpful and we did appreciate it.    The Dr., when he came in was not in the same mood.  He was somewhat cold and detached.  He explained what was going to be done to put our dog down and then started the process.  He gave her something to relax her and allowed us to visit for a few minutes before coming back in and administering the drugs to put her down.The real issue for me was after that - the Dr. really wanted to rush things along.  I know it was getting close to 5PM at that point and he made us feel like we were staying back too long and that he wanted us out of there.    It's a somewhat traumatic experience and while we wanted to spend more time with her once she had passed were were essentially shown the door.I know this isn't an easy task for all parties involved but I really think the Dr. needs to have a little more compassion.   Maybe he was just having a bad day or had an appointment to be at and it was just bad timing, but regardless it happened at the wrong time for us. Because of this experience we decided not to take our two other GSD's here for any care. Read Less
