I was so excited to find a holistically minded veterinary clinic, but THIS is not what I was hoping for. The visit started off well. The front desk people were sweet, I loved the vet tech, but all of that changed when I got to meet with Dr. Landon. I will say that she was dealing with an emergency, so I can't blame her for not being a ray of sunshine. But I have never met a vet who had so many negative things to say, or who was so incredibly snippy with me. The visit started off with "did you know this food has been recalled?" to which I replied "yes." I feed a controversial raw diet, so I am used to this conversation, and my dog food provider has sent several emails on this recall. This continued into "I don't think her diet is working for her" to which I replied "I typically don't talk about her diet with veterinarians because it's usually met with resistance, and I am happy with what I feed her", and she snapped back "well at least give her an omega 3."She softened a bit later, and said that this vet "supports all diets, as long as they are well balanced" but sent me off with a list of kibbles, with raw food as an option later down the list, which leads me to believe she merely tolerates working at a holistic vet, but doesn't actually follow this school of thought. She made snippy comments about the breeder "missing the mark" on my dog (sadly she's a little inbred and came from a bad situation), that her eyesight needs to be looked at and she probably can't see well out of one eye, that she's at 80% more susceptible to breast cancer because she's not spayed (which I didn't know, so it was helpful information, but the delivery was defensive and rude), that her hips are messed up, that she would gain weight if she was spayed (again, another controversial topic I avoid)...etc. It was just one negative thing after another after another, with rude delivery and hostility. Another Great Experience at Mountain View Animal Hospital.When I got my Malinois pup I interviewed a number of Vets in the Reno/Sparks area. I interviewed the Doctors themselves not Staff Members.At Mountain View I interviewed David Lowell DVM; without going into all the details except to say, I believe in as natural an approach to Dog Care as possible. The Contrast between Dr. Lowell and the others, which were highly recommended by personal friends of mine, is Vast in my way of thinking.My dog had a string of bad luck growing up, seriously cutting his feet three different times.I began my relationship with Mountain View with and because of Dr. Lowell. When my dog's first injury came requiring sutures, Dr. Lowell turned me over to Dr. Sarah Kalivoda. She always very caringly and skillfully Healed my dog. I guess Dr. Lowell doesn't do much surgery or suturing.Well, Dr. Kalivoda came through again TODAY with flying colors in Every Way! I love that woman because she loves my dog.It is also necessary to Strongly & Positively characterize the entire Staff at Mountain View, they are First Rate in Every Regard!It also needs to be said that the Setting/Location is quaint and country-like with grass and shade trees, no traffic. Dr. Grace Dahlgren is an amazing Vet. I bring my 4 month goldendoodle to Mountain View. I found Mountain View because I followed Dr. kalivoda from her last location. My 4 month doodle, Gracie, is treated with the best care. When I bought her, she came with an infection. Dr. Dahlgren has been nothing but helpful treating Gracie with the best care and has been conscious about her treatment without over testing. I was skeptical about taking my dog for "Holistic" treatment. Would it be painful? Would it hurt? Would I have to mortgage my house to pay for it? They were friendly and calm (which my dog appreciated). The Vet said it might take a couple of visits to see any results. But the minute she started working on my dog, he began to relax. I saw the stiffness in his back ease and his tail came out from underneath of him. Then came the acupuncture...no problem. He didn't even feel most of the needles. A couple were placed in tender areas-necessary to ease pain- and he twitched. After the treatment I could tell my dog was already feeling better. We coudln't be happier with Dr. Lowell as our veterinarian. Our Great Dane has had some dietary and allergy issues, and thanks to the care he has received at Moutainview Animal Hospital and Holistic Pet Care, he is happy, healthy and allergy-free. Our dog receives excellent care, loves his acupuncture treatments, and he adores Dr. Lowell and his staff. I've had a few clients tell me about Mountain View over the years, then during ArtPaws last summer I met one of the vets in person. I had heard they do pet teeth cleanings without putting your fur baby totally under. Sheela is getting a bit older and anesthesia seems harder and harder on her. I was able to discuss with the doctor at ArtPaws about the special dental technician they have come into the office for a few days each month. You need to book ahead as the slots fill up very fast. I was able to drop Sheela off on my way to work and pick her afterwards around 4:30pm.  The staff had a very detailed cleaning sheet they were willing to go over with me, but I totally understood everything.  Her teeth looked fabulous and she was a happy and alert girl. What a great difference for both of us not have her under anesthetic. The bonus was fee was half to two thirds less than I had paid at previous offices.  We both like the staff, appointments are easy to make, and we'll be here for quite a while for all Sheela's vet needs. I was absolutely delighted with the care our miniature poodle received. Lonnie worked a miracle, for 8 years we have only had full sedation grooming because he is usually very uncooperative. Our dog is so happy here that we no longer worry about taking trips and leaving him in Mountainview Boarding. We were gone last week and when we picked him up, he seemed years younger. They are just wonderful with all the animals. I recommend them every chance I get. Read Less

Dr Megan is amazing Morpheus was having stiffness After x-rays showed he has arthritis in both knees and tail. Dr Megan suggested we do acupuncture and chiropractic care. While waiting to see Dr. Lowell, 5 dogs came and/or went. I have never seen animals at “the Vet” act so calm, and react so warmly with the Dr & staff. Seriously, happy, relaxed, and trusting. I dropped my dog, Finnegan, off at eight am, for a cryptorchid neutering.  Met with the surgeon, who told me I would be contacted by noon for an update on Finnegan's condition. Noon came and went so I called at one pm, asked how Finnegan was doing, was told, "hold on, I will go back and check."   After six minutes of holding, she comes back, picks up the phone, and says, "how may I help you?" I stated that I had been on hold for six minutes waiting for her to 'go and check' to see how my dog was. she stated, "I forgot you were holding." REALLY? Then when I went in to pick him up, I was sitting in the waiting area and I heard the same girl say this to another customer..."let me GO and check". This insinuates that she is physically getting up and GOING to check. She did not move from her seat. When I called, I was a little worried that Finnegan was not okay and having to hold for six minutes with that state of mind is a LONG time.  I still cannot believe she said she 'FORGOT' I was on hold...WOW. We may still come to see Sarah when he needs acupuncture, but we wont be coming back to that side of the hospital. we may even look for a new place entirely.There was also quite a bit of discrepancy between the quoted total and the actual total. We had budgeted for the higher amount, but it was quite a bit more than we had anticipated, ($200), causing a bit of a hiccup in our finances.For that much money, it really burns me that the girl sitting on her butt, answering the phone, 'FORGOT' I was even there. I am so grateful to have found a holistic vet here in Reno. I am truly blown away by Dr. K and her practice. She has great communication, she does everything out in the open right in front of you, (never taking your pet to a noisy back room and hidding to do a procedure) and you can see her love and compassion for her work while she is with your pet. I also love that her clinic is actually a old house. This makes the environment so comfortable and less stressful with the rugs..., tables, windows and other decor my furbabies feel right at home. At other vets you are stuffed into tiny rooms and it feels like a assembly line as the vets try to see 10 patients at once and don't give you the time of day. The difference between Dr. K's holistic practice and other vets intown is night and day. Other vets intown seem to only be interested in pushing meds and surgery. My dog, Daisy, has Mast Cell tumors, and recently a large mass appeared on her hip. I used to go the conventional route with vets, but since I started treating myself to holistic care, I started doing it for my pets as well. As soon as we walked into the clinic, we were taken care of right away. The Vet techs were efficient and nice, the clinic was calm and serene. Daisy's new doctor is Dr. Kalivoda. She was wonderful as soon as she walked into the room. I immediately felt that I made the right choice. Unfortunately, the large mass turned out to be carcinoma. Dr. K put her on herbs and therapy right away. Even if it only extends her life for a few more days or months, I will still be glad I brought her to Mountain View! Thank you! Read Less
