Unfortunately one of them has developed some medical problems as of late. They nickel and dime her EVERY chance they get. There is too many instances to write. She is on a very fixed income, so this is very stressful to her. She calls me crying almost every time she has to deal with them. She is on oxygen so it is very hard on her. I have only one experience to share and it turned out to be on the most devastating day of my life. The ENTIRE STAFF that I encountered was compassionate and professional towards me and my baby girl. I came in with no appointment.oh, by the way, my vet could not see me,so I called North Valleys and they said i could come in. I was visibly upset and they showed understanding and compassion. My worst fear came to fruition. I had to make the hardest decision of my life. I spent about 3 hours there and left by myself to never be able to see my baby again. When I left, through all the heartbreak, I got home and was greeted by my husband and through all the tears and heartache I told him that this staff was so wonderful..I never felt pressure to make a decision or felt I had to rush through the entire process. I have been a client of the clinic, this morning my Sheppard was very sick, called the clinic, was told to come by the Dr. would see her. I then waited for 1 1/2 hours and was told it would be at least one more hour. All with a very sick dog. So I left and was seen immediately at siearra vets, on 6th st. My cat broke her leg and had to have it amputated; it was an emergency, so we went to the vet closest to our house, though it was not out typical vet. It was obviously not a great experience, but they did very well with her. Dr. Gonzales took care of her. My daughter and I noticed that he smiled when checking our cat's heart rate, and he seemed to have such a wonderfully peaceful demeanor, which my cat, and we, appreciated. I'm writing this review because I was impressed. At 72 years old that's pretty difficult. I've had experience with animals both large, (horses and cows), and small, (dogs and such), I'm pretty straight forward with Veterinarians and Farriers. Dr. Baggett impressed me by answering my questions with expertise. He gave me reasons when he gave recommendations. I see many reviewers were frustrated by being charged for a full examination when they went in for shots. I have never been to a vet (or doctor for that matter) that doesn't charge for an exam when giving vaccinations. So if you're looking to pay for just shots, do not come here. They will throughly check your pet before giving shots and will charge you for everything. Now, I started taking my pets here by accident. We had a regular vet in Northwest Reno that we had gone to for many years. But I had an emergency and our regular vet was unable to see us in a timely manner. We have four dogs. I generally take one dog per day for a car ride when I go to get the kids from school. I would sometimes give the dogs large cow bones to chew while they rode in the back of the car. Well on this particular day our biggest, goldenist dog broke thru the circular bone and the C shaped bone remnants clamped around his jaw. He was screaming and howling and 75lbs of hysterical. He couldn't close his mouth and the sharp bone was pressing down on his tongue. The opening in the bone very small and had slipped over his teeth and the whole thing was stuck on the side of his face. I called our regular vet and they were booked. I tried to explain how upset he was and they suggested an emergency vet with a very high minimum cost for emergency services. North Hills Vet was a block from our house so I drove there and ran in and explained the situation. The vet tech immediately went and told the doctor who came out to speak to me personally. He explained that they were very busy but that he would sedate my dog right away so he wouldn't hurt himself and they would use a bone saw to remove the bone between their afternoon procedures. Two vets and a vet tech went to help me get him out of the car. Everyone in the office was so sympathetic to his plight and had a great sense of humor about it. The office girls were holding him and taking pictures and the vet had him sedated in no time. He was all patched up and ready in an hour. With a prescription for no more bones of any kind. Since then we have returned several times for shots, regular care and a few other less hilarious emergencies. They're so honest and always great about telling us what we need to pay for and what we can try and live without. The facilities are beautiful and I'm grateful this place is in my neighborhood. Well, this is a long awaited review since I seem to always forget to remind everyone how wonderful this clinic is. I have a 2 year old male German Shepherd who is very dear to me and my family. He Is such a special dog and has impacted many people besides myself. Back in April he all of a sudden went ill and i had no idea what a crazy ride we were about to be on. After taking him to a terrible vet, Banfield, because it was late on a Sunday night and I knew there was something seriously wrong, they assured me that his stomach did not flip and he was fine. I brought him into NHVC immediately after talking to someone at the front desk Monday morning and he was about to go into surgery almost immediately after that. Long story short, within a matter of a week, he underwent two major surgeries that included removing his spleen, removing some of his liver, and giving him a blood transfusion. The second surgery might had been avoided if his spleen was taken out during the first surgery, but I do not fault anyone for not taking it out. It looked healthy and I do appreciate them not wanting to take it out if they did not need to. It was with good intentions Dr. P didn't take it out and I do not hold anything against her. She is a great vet and her and Dr. Bagget preformed the surgeries and both did a wonderful job! This clinic has done nothing, but make me a happy dog mom to have such a great vet to take him to. I took my dog here thinking they were a caring and honest clinic, but I was lied to and cleverly convinced to assign my dog over while I was under great distress. I was given no time to come up with even a part of what was needed for an emergency surgery. I was told in order to save my dog I must relinquish my ownership of her. But was told by Dr Megan plateman that she would be giving my dog a new home. And through my tears I asked about a payment plan, and was told that just doesn't happen in the vet world. While grateful for saving my dog's life. Completely heartbroken learning that dr. Megan Plateman did not in fact keep my dog but as soon as she had recovered she was rehomed. She was sent off to some other family and I was never given the chance 2 even try and get her back what kind of vet convinces people while under great stress and emotions to relinquish their animals all in the name of science. Since the day I took my dog into this bed I have cried myself to sleep and have found it very hard to think of anything else. My dog is a part of my heart and soul. I have been completely lost without her and now I learn that I was lied to. So please if faced with the same choices don't believe that Dr Megan plateman, really cares about you your pet or the hardship you'll face. And now I'm faced with an even bigger dilemma. We have been taking Murphy here for several months to both day board and board over night. He loves to go, and it is so nice to feel good about him being there. I've been going here for years and have always been very happy with the staff and the facilities. Lately my dog had some dental work growths removed. Very reasonable prices. These people are quite simply awesome. They treat u with respect as well as your pet as well. The veterinarian that I met was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to help me and my dog. I will never take my pet to any other vet. And they also don't over charge me. They actually charged me a little less that what they quoted me. Again,,,,they are just simply awesome. Dr. Gonzales seen our beloved spec yesterday and was great with the situation. I was at work and he called me to let me know my options for tests but advised that spec was really sick and in a lot of pain. he was very kind and understanding of the emotions of the situation and when it came to deciding that testing that would most likely show spec was untreatable that it was best to end specs suffering he not only kept calm and had the caring tone but he won't over options in our budget and let us know it was best decision and whomever I spoke to later and pain with was great with dealing with me while I was hysterical and let me know they could send a paw print of his for my 3 year old daughter. Unfortunately I did like dr Gonzales However the staff and assistants are awful! My dog got sick over the weekend (they're closed, I took him to the animal hospital) At the animal hospital I was told if he started throwing up or pooping blood I needed to bring him in immediately to be seen! North hills was my vet at the time. Took all my pets there. Anyways, on a Monday at 1pm my dog started throwing up blood. I called the vet and explained that he was sick and told to take him in immediately if he started throwing up blood . SHE TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY HAD NOTHING AVAILABLE TODAY!!!!! She didn't even place me on hold. So I know she didn't even TRY to get us in or talk to the doctor about it. I was livid, this was an emergency. Not just a regular check up and updates on shots. With that being said, I found another vet that didn't even know my dog that was willing to take him in. Luckily. I do not know what the problem is with this place but Meghan Plateman has the worse attitude I've seen in any Dr. by far. She was condescending and acted like a child. Mocking and going back and forth with the pet owner. Laughing at every comment and question being ask. When her attitude was brought to her attention she proceeded to be very defensive and when stated that we were getting ready to leave she said that would probably be a good idea And opened the door. On top of that she was not caring of the animals. She blew in the office said her and her assistant were taking the dog to do A heart worm test that they would be back. Instead of her and her assistant coming back another assistant came in and said, no lie " Is this yours?" Regferring to our tiny dog in his arm. He then said "I don't know what going on, I was told to take the other one." Referring to our other dog we had taken in as well. Tho whole visit was absolutely ridiculous. I would not feel safe taking another animal here I have no idea what they did to our little dog when they took him back he came back with a foaming mouth and very scared and nervous. There was a completely odd and uneasy feeling in the whole office. I'm really not sure what's going on here. My family has been going to Dr. Altom for years and now Dr. Baggett also, so when my new SPCA dog injured himself 3 weeks after we adopted him, I chose North Hills because of my family's history, although I knew my dog needed to see an experienced Doctor or orthopedic specialist for his injury. North Hills Veterinary Clinic got us in with almost no notice to see Dr. Baggett and he was able to confirm that Desmond slipped a disc in his lumbar region, which is what I suspected and had been devastated about due to the cost, possibility of surgical treatment and long, difficult recovery. As a single mom and one income household, the costs for treating a back injury were intimidating. Dr. Baggett was able to diagnose Desmond and determine that medical, non-surgical treatment was possible, and did not require expensive radiographs or a myelogram, which was a huge relief. Had I rushed my dog to the emergency hospital, I would have had to pay triple what I paid at North Hills before a referral to an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Baggett is a veterinarian who clearly cares about his clients and wants to find the best possible solution, putting the least amount of financial burden on families. I highly recommend North Hills Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Altom and Dr. Baggett have treated nearly a dozen of my family's animals and now I will not consider taking my newest kid anywhere else.Read Less
