I was referred to Sierra Vet Specialists by my vet, because my cat needed a "specialist". We weren't sure what was wrong, coughing, breathing difficulty, he was 9 yrs old. What a mistake. The doctor I had is no longer there now, and it makes me wonder if she was fired or forced to leave because it happened suddenly and without notice. How she was considered a specialist is beyond me. I felt I learned more online then from her. The office is HIGHLY overpriced, but i couldn't shop around while my cat was in distress. I found out later that it is a standard procedure most vets can do and its around $200-300, they charged me $1200.( Also the second time they charged me a completely different price for same procedure, no one could explain that. Discrepancy was never resolved. I know because my kitty had to have same procedure (chest tap) several more times over the next couple of months. Test after test, and thousands of dollars of debt, I went to another vet. Too late. I couldn't afford all new testing somewhere else, since I already gave all my money to SVS, so we made my baby boy as comfortable as could be, he lasted a couple more months after that and I had to put him to sleep. I still have no answers as to what killed him. Heart disease, cancer, who knows, SVS didn't and we tested for everything. They are too big for their own good, too many hands in the pot and not enough caring for the animal. why didn't any other doctors get involved, don't they talk to each other there? help each other out? learn? After all my problems I did receive a call from the office manager that he would provide a free autopsy to find possible cause. too little too late, and I would never take my baby back to them dead or alive. they don't get my trust. If your pet has some out of the ordinary problem, take the time and drive to sacramento and go to UC Davis, I sure wish I would have known about them sooner. I'm not sure if that would have saved my kitty or not but somehow I don't think I would have felt as cheated. Read Less
