Do not bring your pets here! This vet office is rated badly for a reason. I have the highest level of the pet insurance plan for several years with banfield due to my dog having bladder issues since she was a puppy, I will be cancelling it due to my experience with this office. The vet seriously tried to tell me that my dog is required to have a non covered blood pressure test done in order to continue getting her medication. My dog needs this med for life. The vet could not explain to me why this office felt the need to charge for a blood pressure check, I could literally take my dogs blood pressure myself! The vet agreed she had no symptoms of high blood pressure, in good health, so why all of a sudden do they need to charge me for a test no other vet reccomended? No other office in the past 5 years wanted to charge me for a this unnecessary test, but this vet just kept saying its required. When I brought my dog home, she didn't have a shave mark on her arm which tells me they didn't even test her blood, who knows if they even did the physical! I have not had issues with the vets in California or Oregon until I came to Sparks Nevada. My recommendation for Dr S; get the hell out of Banfield while you still can, you sound smart & young, don't let this place ruin your reputation & career. Or maybe consider being a politician as you are very good at avoiding answering questions. Don't bring your pets here people, all they care about is finding ways to make money off you. Read Less

My dog was first diagnosed with a bacterial infection for the redness on his underbelly and he's excessive scratching and biting. After he was done with the medicine they said its mites. He needed demonadex dips. Which are 140 a piece with the wellness plan. After his first dip, they did not tell us to do anything. It was simply "here is dog". When there was no noticable changes in his biting and scratching i called the vet. They said he should have been in two week after the dip. So, desperately wanting my dog to bot be scratching himself bald, i set up another dip. When i picked him up i schedule a follow up and they lost the appointment. Told me that we never should up when we were turned away. They do not communicate instruction after treatments nor do they call back. They are unprofessional and insensitive. Do not take your pet here, ever. They dont care about the wellness of your pet. They just want your money. Read Less

I took my dog in to have her teeth cleaned and was told to have her there at 7:30 am. At 2:25 pm I got a call from one of the assistants and was told the machine they use to clear the dogs teeth broke down. They had already sedated my dog for the IV and when I went to pick her up the sedative had  not wore off and she was really groggy. I planned the whole day around this appointment and after my dog being there all day all I got was a groggy dog with dirty teeth. I pay a monthly health insurance payment and feel as if I'm not getting anything for what I pay. This place is a joke and I would think twice before signing up for an insurance plan with Banfield. This Banfield caused me and my pet more trouble than they helped. I took my collie in to get his anal glands expressed because I am a first time pet owner. While yes, I understand that doctors and vetranarians are in the business of making money, Dr. Cassandra Johnson took diagnosing to the extreme by listing off nearly every possibility of disease including cancer and multiple organ diseases without any reasonable medical causes. This doctor and clinic made me feel exploited, unappreciated as a returning customer, and dehumanized by commodifying MY DOG!! Not only is this practice unethical, it IS an attempt at insurance abuse by attempting to charge for services that were not medically needed nor warranted. Furthermore, this clinic didn't stop playing with me there. After telling me they would send in the insurance information the day of, it took not one, not two, not even three phone calls but four to get them send it after more than a month. On the third call I was even told that they faxed it weeks before which turned out to be false. This Banfield was intentionally deceptive and misrepresented insurance information to the customer for their unauthorized benefit, qualifying as insurance fraud (18 US Code Chapter 47 sec 1007). In conclusion, I felt like less of a human and violated as a pet owner from Dr. Johnson and her team. Read Less

This place is a joke all the employees and Dr. Austin freaking idiots! I took my pit who has never been aggressive or attacked anyone till this day to make things clear. I took her in to get her exam ,shots and whatever else she needed. They told me I had to drop her off at 9am till about 1pm , which makes no sense why they keep then there for so long, I dropped her off told the girl if I can get a muzzel to be on the safe side and two leashes they gave me to put on her, so I leave and not even 5min later I get a call saying I need to pick her up because she ripped off the muzzle according to them which she took off because it was around her neck still (idiots) and claimed she opened the kennel! How the hell would she open a kennel that you close from the outside morans!!!!  I got there and the idiots had her with a rabies collor choking her( which manager Heather claimed they didn't choke her) really because this idiot Heather was not even there that day and until I personally called her to let her know about the incident she had no idea !!! I asked for water and said they didn't have water for her after she was trying to catch her breath after they choked her! I never got an apology from the idiot manager and defended all the employees! I am only giving 3 stars because I have had a few not so great experiences. First I would give 5 stars for Dr. Austin she is AMAZING. I can't say that for the other Dr.s I have a 75lb Rottweiler and one Dr. Is extremely scared of her. I will say my baby is a little hyper and was scared and snapped at most everyone. But Dr. Austin can in sat down stayed calm and was able to almost win my baby over. Now to the curent experience I took my year and half old rottweiler in to be spay and they ran test, called told me her liver inzimes are too high and could bleed out on the table if I did the surgery. I freaked out and had to pay 100$ to get another test run. Came back normal. Hummm. Took her in to get the surgery and Dr Austin was there and did the surgery. Not upset about having to wait once I saw Dr Austin. I knew my baby had been in good hands. But had to pay 100$ at pick up. I have the pet plan and was quoted 70$ when I dropped off. I am traveling in 2 weeks and Dr Austin said I can bring my baby in for a hug and a quick over view on my wsy out of town. Thank you Dr Austin for calm a crazy moms nerves. Read Less

My husband and I have 4 large dogs, 2 of which we had gotten from a rancher in Palomino Valley, who found them on his ranch- dumped.  One is an un-neutered male weighing almost 80lbs. I've never used Banfield before, however they are located close to my home and I thought I would give them a try. They quoted me $360 to neuter him over the phone. When we took him in the vet and they would need to remove his scrotum too and that would be another $115.  So, the final lower end of the estimate came to $488 to neuter a rescue dog!!! The upper end of the estimate came to $618.  I had already taken care of his vaccinations and deworming so those things weren't even included. I have no doubt that they would find "other" things that needed to be done once I turned my dog over to them. Needless to say, we found a different vet! This organization is purely profit driven, unless you are made of money, find a different vet. Read Less

Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed with the way my pet and I were cared for at our last visit here. Mind you, it was in March but over the weekend I was again disappointed with the service. In March, I took my 15yr old dog in for her 2nd round of comprehensive exam, lab work, urinalysis included in her wellness plan for the year. I dropped her off at 9am and was told they'd call when she was done sometime around noon. So 1pm rolls around, no call. I call them and they say, "sorry she's not done but will be ready by 3pm". I'm running a little behind trying to close up shop at my own business. About 4pm I call to say I'm on my way. I'm informed, she still hadn't been examined by the doctor but was assured she would be by the time I get there (about 30min). When I arrive, I am again told she STILL wasn't examined by the doctor! We wait about 15min out front, I'm getting impatient, then the CSC brings her out to me and says "the doctor still has to examine her, but you can hold on to her since I know you're in a hurry." Funny thing, I wasn't in a hurry at all, I was pissed my dog had been there for 7.5hrs and not seen by the doctor. When the doctor finally comes out, we don't even go in a room, she just gives her the once over, listens to her heart and lungs and then proceeds to tell me about her bloodwork. Then, this is the greatest part, she tells me they were unable to get a urine from her. For her, this is important due to age, a kidney value that is off and history of crystals. Now I know, from experience (and by that I mean 10 years in veterinary care, 8 months in a chartered banfield -in a different state- that I actually loved), that if you can't get a free catch urine, you do a cysto and get it straight from the source. I also know that my little old dog is more than happy to give up her urine, however, she will not go potty in a cage. So we leave, I live exactly 1mile away, 5min from walking out the entrance to pulling into my driveway at max. My little lady cannot even wait to go to the backyard. She runs straight to the front yard, which they never go out to, and urinates halfway on the grass, halfway on the driveway!!!!! 8 hours now she has been waiting to go to the bathroom but they can't get a urine from her?! Needless to say I was furious with them! And even better, since I already paid for the plan, I'm losing out on money and having a more current urinalysis for her since THEY couldn't complete the service they were supposed to. The incident over the weekend that prompted me to leave a review: I needed a medication refill. While picking up food at PetSmart, we are standing at the front desk, which has no employee. After a few minutes, a woman (the veterinarian) walks out of the restroom, looks right at me and doesn't even make an effort to ask me if I've been helped or need something, not even hi or a smile and then she walks through an exam room and into the back. I can see them through the window doing things, no pet in any of their hands, and carrying on conversation, still no one comes out to the front. After about 10min, I said forget it and walked away! I just want to warn anyone thinking of going to Banfield Pet Hospital because you think the free exam is a good deal.....WRONG! I went to Banfield approximately 8 days ago because my 13.5 year old black lab was having ear troubles. Most likely an ear infection, but we needed the vet to look in the ear to be sure it wasn't mites or even possibly something lodged in the ear, such as a fox tail. I went there because I'm out of work and just didn't have the funds available to take my pup to a real vet, so we gave Banfield a try simply for the free examination and hoped that they would give us an Rx for Otomax, which is used throughout the country to clear up ear infections. The "doctor" wouldn't even look in his ear, even though there was a scope hanging from the wall. In fact, she sent her tech in with a piece of paper with a list of fees, and two Q-tips saying that they would have to look under a scope before they could determine what sort of medication to prescribe. Of course they knew my financial situation, and it was pretty obvious to both my Mother and myself that the expression on the "doctor's" face when she sniffed the ear that it was indeed an infection, but still refused to write us the script. Being in the healthcare industry for 20 years, I felt embarrassed for the doctor for having to explain WHY we are in the healthcare industry, you know, because we are supposed to CARE for people/pets in need, and after trying to break it down for her, she tried to say, "Well you can't give too many antibiotics because you can build up a tolerance if used too much..." I knew that the FREE EXAMINATION sell was just to get people through the door, and then to hold them hostage as the pets they love suffer because the "vets" at Banfield are not really interested in HEALING sick animals, but of course, they're in the business of making money. My dog has never been sick, ever. Never been on antibiotics, never anything more than food allergies, a problem that had been solved years ago, all this information was given to the vet and her assistant more than once. When I asked the "doctor" if she thought it would be better to let the dog continue to be in pain with an ear infection rather than giving him a blanket antibiotic that could actually improve his condition, she looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language. When I assured her I wouldn't hold her liable for anything that would happen to my dog if the antibiotic didn't work, she still refused to give me the script for Otomax, saying she never heard of it personally. They did try to sell me Tresaderm, which are antibacterial drops generally used for mites (which I suggested for possible mites, which she had already said she didn't think he had) and the price of the RX was nearly four times MORE EXPENSIVE than what I found it for online (with free shipping!) Disgusted, we left without a proper script, my dog's ear still inflamed and smelly. I worked to sell my handmade crafts until I could afford to see a real vet. Well, today was the day I got to that real vet....and guess what? After a quick look over, they took my boy in the back to use a scope in his ears and 5 MINUTES later he was back in our room, ears flushed and treated with OTOMAX! This wonderful vet confirmed that he had indeed an ear infection, that his ear drum was still intact and okay, and instructions to continue Epi-Optic Flush/Otomax for one week and he should be healed. Imagine that?! Exactly what I asked for at Banfield was done without a word....and why?!...because my dog needed the treatment. Some may say that the veterinarian should have asked me before putting the medication into his ear...but you know what that showed me? It showed me that the dog's health was more important than the dollar bill, and honestly I would have paid them an arm and a leg for showing that sort of compassion for my dog, but as it turned out I didn't have to. The initially office visit, the flush, the medication was all under $100 bucks. Really nice, Banfield....you've proved your worth. I hope EVERYONE considering to go to this office will first do some research and I hope they find this review because I DO NOT recommend these hacks to care for animals on the street, let alone our beloved pets. I switched to Banfield because it's the closest to my home and I love Petsmart so I thought I'd give this pet hospital a chance. The staff and doctors are beyond caring and polite. My hubby took our Beagle there a couple of months ago because he was trembling, didn't want to be touched, and he could barely walk. The doctor discovered that the dog had a spinal injury that he should be able to recover from. Since my dog is 7 years old, I decided to take them up on their offer of the Optimal Wellness Plan. Two weeks later my dog had fully recovered from his spinal injury and was well for an entire week before coming down with a stomach ailment. After a few days of runny poop, he developed bloody diarrhea.I was so glad I had purchased the Optimal plan, because his blood work and office visit were fully covered. I recently took him for booster shots, and in a few days he will have his teeth cleaned there. I paid $400ish bucks for the Optimal plan, and already, I have saved $763 for all the visits and shots my dog needed. And when I take him for the teeth cleaning it will be fully covered with no extra charges. I have already recovered my $400 for the plan and then some. Other vets quoted me $600 just for the teeth cleaning, so I will save even more for having bought the plan.I deducted a star because I do feel that Banfield wants to make more money for plan holders by prescribing meds that are overpriced and, in the case of my dog's upset tummy, not even needed beyond a day. That said, I hope that I'm wrong and can upgrade this review to 5 stars based on future experience. Read Less

Went here for a free exam after adopting a dog. The vet wasn't particularly friendly and neither were the vet techs. My dog bit one of the techs 2x and pissed all over the examining table because they were touching his ass. The wellness plans at first glanced seemed reasonable (especially for the dental), but if you call up for a la carte services different vets, there is really no reason to get it IMO. I also was mad because I was told to come 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork. I wasn't seen for 20 minutes after my time. The pills I got were also more than 100% than on petmeds.com and I don't think the vet should have prescribed to my dog not knowing if he has that gene found in many herding dogs.  Won't return.

Read Less

I took her in to get her exam ,shots and whatever else she needed.
