My wife and I have been coming here for years for the annual check ups and emergency issues as well. There professionalism is what keeps us coming back even though it a 25 minute drive to it. When our littlest dog, Schroder, stopped eating we brought him in and the Vet said that his little liver stopped working and the best option was to euthanize him. They let my wife and I the opportunity to say goodbye before euthanizing him . Their compassion and care made a incredibly difficult moment tolerable. Thank you so much Read Less

Let me start out by saying I have brought my three dogs to baring boulevard veterinary clinic for the past ten years. The last few visits have been more and more concerning. Last week My wife brought my 1 year old lab mix in for his standard checkup. He got his shots and a "physical" and was sent on his way. The next day I was petting him and noticed a lump under his skin on his side. I chalked it up to a swollen lymph node from the vaccination because there was no way the vet would have missed it. Fast forward one week to today. The lump was still there and obviously not from the shots so we wanted to bring him in for a follow up. He also was shaking his head and we thought he could have something wrong. Another frustration because my wife mentioned during the physical the dr did not use a scope or light to look in his ears. My wife brought him in today and the vet instantly found the lump (different vet) and looked in his ears with a scope and said he has a fox tail deep down and needs to be sedated. We have permission for this to be done and left him at the clinic. A few hours later we received a call that it turns out he did not have a fox tail and he just had some hair in his ears. Slightly frustrated my dog was unnecessarily sedated, but I understand people make mistakes. When I can to pick up my dog I was told they would waive the sedation (which I would expect as it was an unnecessary medical procedure that could have been avoided with proper diligence) and that I would be charged for another physical because "we saw a different vet" and that's "policy". When I explained my frustration at paying for a second visit for something I, an untrained person, could find when petting my dog in a non-diagnostic manner but it was missed by a vet they reiterated that policy. I then explained that I felt it was a poor business practice to lose a customer over 25 dollars (new visit vs follow up) and they didn't seem to care. Not that I would bring any animal I cared about there anyways. Read Less

Words can't express how thankful I am that this vet is in town. I live in northwest Reno and drive out specifically to make sure my dog is treated here. We were originally going to a different vet in town that gave my dog less than six months to live, we brought him to Baring and saw Dr. Davidson Who put him on a steady treatment plan, and years later he is a happy healthy dog! They always have emergency appointment locked into their day so you can easily get in the same day if you need to. They are also open later than most vets in town for after 5 PM appointments for those people that work and can't get off before then. The amount of effort that they go into to care for my pets and me as far as bedside manner is above and beyond. There have been so many emotional times when your dog  gets sick that I am so thankful that this vet it is here for us. Specifically Dr. Davidson and his nurse tech and all the extra phone calls checking in on us and care that they give my dogs. Read Less

We have been Baring clients since 2002. Through 5 dogs and 3 cats, they've provided good care. Dr. Pulver saved our kitten, and Dr. Hobel was very kind during our dog's illness and when we eventually had to have him put down. We used to love them...but we are becoming dissatisfied. I can still say the quality of care is top-notch, but their office staff has become progressively worse over the past 18 months and it's degrading the effectiveness of their care. Last year, our dog was prescribed special food. He wouldn't eat it, and we returned 10/12 cans for another flavor. The staff misplaced it, and then treated me like a criminal when I said we had returned it for a credit. They called back a couple days later when they found the food tucked into a cabinet, to tell me that they found it, however no apology for accusing me of lying about the food.Last month I ordered a refill of my dog's meds, and let them know picking would be a few days as I was traveling, and paid over the phone.  When the pet sitter went to pick up, they told her the meds weren't available and she'd have to get them elsewhere. After I called again, and walked them through the sequence of events, they found the prescription filed and ready to pick up. Today, I just paid double the quote for my dogs exam and bloodwork! I asked pricing at the time I made the appointment. I called back last night to verify pricing for the exam, glucose test, and thyroid test. Both times I was quoted $120. I explicitly asked if that included everything. At pickup today, the bill was $300.  The two times I called for a quote, they neglected to include he bloodwork price. Their office staff seems under trained, and they make a lot of mistakes.  Baring is one of the more expensive vets in town, and for what we pay, they should have better procedures. Read Less

We have been taking our cats and dogs to Baring for over 10 years. I have always felt certain that the entire staff is compassionate, competent, and has the best interests of our "furbabies" in mind. Whether we are there as walk-ins, for a scheduled appointment, for something as minor as goopy eyes or as major as dental surgery or renal lymphoma, we have been treated professionally with care and respect. There's never been any doubt in my mind that what the vets recommend is truly what is best for our pets. Most recently Dr. Davidson did dental work on our 17 year old cat. Naturally I was apprehensive because of my cat's age but he took the time to explain to me the process by which they make sure it is safe to put them under anesthesia and called again to let me know what he found during the dental exam before proceeding. Marsha was very kind in keeping me informed as the surgery progressed and Tinker is now home and back to his old self again. When I picked him up the staff told me how sweet he was so I know they kept a close eye on him and even gave him some attention during his stay. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see him feeling better and know he was treated well. Some of the reviews below are scathing and I am shocked. Yes, sometimes even doctors/veterinarians do everything they can and the outcome isn't what we want and yes diagnostics are expensive but this isn't the veterinary medicine of generations past. What Baring offers is complete, modern care by compassionate and well educated veterinarians. With that, diagnostic tools are available that parallel what our own doctors have access to for human care. I would much rather know what is going on with my cat or dog through test results than have the vet make an educated guess and hope the treatment worked. We will continue to take our animals to Baring and will recommend them. Read Less

I was in here yesterday with my dog because of a chipped tooth that was decaying. My dog was very nervous and anxious as soon as we got into the waiting room, he's always been liked that for some reason.. but  the front staff was great and even the assistant. She had like a red burgundy  hair and was so nice to my pit! He liked her and didn't even hesitate to follow her to the back to get his weight checked. Alright so this is where the two stars come from.. Dr. Likes. I could not "like" this doctor at all. No patience whatsoever! He obviously could not see the signs of a dog that is scared and feels threatened. I voiced out that my dog will snap at you if he's in panic mode. He's a pit he has fear aggression.. I felt like he just didn't know how to deal with him and continued to do what he was doing. He attempts to take him to the back room where he had his weight checked. He grabs one of their own leashes and just yanks him by the neck and is practically strangling my dog!! His eyes were red, he's desperately trying to breathe, and my dog was pulling back but the doctor kept on tugging!! He told us to leave the room and I stormed off because I was upset. Read Less

I've just about had it with this place. They killed my moms cat about two months ago by not treating her properly for an infection and against my better judgement I brought my dog here tonight. He's sick and smelly. I called ahead at 5:30 and was told they had two walk ins ahead of me. Then at 6:15 when I arrived the magically had 8 people ahead of me. I had to get my daughter to an appointment and we were going to be late so I left my poor puppy there so he wouldn't loose his spot in line and left at 6:45.    I got a call at 7:20 saying the doctor was ready to see my puppy. I told them I would be there in less than a minute (she said that was fine) and pulled into the parking lot not 30 seconds later only to be told they took the next person in line. So here I am. I am sitting in this waiting room without my dog and still waiting to see a doctor. This is ludicrous. Nobody apologized for the wait or for bumping me when I was told everything was fine. Oh yeah.....they always push blood work and X-rays. Horrible waste of money. It's like your doctor ordering X-rays when you see him for a cold. I've been getting frustrated with this office for a few months and I'm raging angry right now. Time to find a new vet I think. Read Less

We have taken 3 dogs to Baring vet over the past 8 years or so. Around 6 years ago we had to put down our big dog, he had cancer and was too far gone for treatment. The level of care we received solidified our office choice. They let us greave in a private room for hours, then about a month later we received a letter from an organization thanking us for our donation, we never made one. Baring vet donated a portion of the fees they charged us for euthanasia to a non-profit organization that helps animals burned in house fires. We took our dog for an ultrasound to determine why his chest was filling with liquid and also to tap it to relieve the pressure. Our initial discussion with the vet afterwards seemed informative and thorough. We were told the heart looked strong and there was no visible evidence of tumors. Several days later our dog was in distress again. We called early in the morning to talk to the vet and said it was important. We waited anxiously by the phone for a call back. Later in the afternoon we called again and the vet was with a client so we asked for a call back. at 4:30 we called again and were told he had gone home. The next morning we called and were told he had jury duty. The next afternoon, we finally got to speak to a Dr. Baker which was helpful. Because our dog was in breathing distress, we took him to Sierra Vet specialists to again have an ultra sound and tap the fluid. They did not need to sedate him (he was quite sedated by Barring) They saw from the ultrasound that a massive tumor extended around his heart. I wonder why this was not seen when we brought him in for evaluations to Barring. Even more upsetting was the lack of regard and care by ignoring our request for a call. I give this practice (or at least this doctor) one star for competency in diagnosis and one star for patient centered care. At the very least with all the assistants, there could have been a call back as we spent an anxious day and a half waiting for help. Read Less

I've tried taking my animals to other vets, (out of convenance, or laziness) (I live in south Reno, the vet is out in sparks.).  I always regret it! I've learned my lesson, and now just drive the half hour per direction... It's worth it!!! I've had some rough news come from the vets at baring(cancer, emergency spleen removal), but they are always  so warm and kind when breaking the hard news to me! I could tell that they truly cared for the dog, and not just wanted to make a quick buck.  Every procedure they have done on my animals have turned out wonderful! Before the procedure they would walk me thru what would be happening, and how to handle the aftermath.  They would often call to tell me how things were going, and were very quick to get me in if the dog needed a check up.  You owe it to your pet to go to this vet!!!! They are phenomenal!!! Read Less

Clean, fast, and great communication skills! I have two dogs so it's always a crazy time! I rescued a beautiful Britney spaniel mix. But he TURNS into a monstrous dog I don't know! When we go to the vet. He needs anxiety meds and a muzzle for EVERYONE's safety. So Dr Kayla Parke is my favorite vet. She deals with my older pointer mix that I've had since she was a pup. She's five now! So Duke sees that Moxy isn't going to be hurt. Then it's his turn he bites at the muzzle. Crocodile rules and freaks out. So the tech recommend to take him on a walk. So that's what they did along the walk through the clinic. She gently pinned him against the wall and Dr. Parke got the shots he needed! I'm so thankful that they care about their patients, as much as they do about the patients 'people'! I always cry when my Duke turns into the monster! Dr Parke always gives me a hug! They are great I hear the other vets are amazing as well!Read Less

Definitely in love with these guys. Their 7 day a week schedule makes it really easy to be seen. I had to come here because my little border collie Ruger wasn't feeling well. At first I thought it was stress from the move, but with the helpful friendly care from the entire staff (front counter, vet assistants and vets themselves) Ruger was feeling better and got the blockage out of his intestines without a costly surgery. The staff is willing to help with any questions. They readily provide pricing for you, so you aren't blindsided at check out. They're so high tech that you can pay for your visit in the exam rooms! This was one of my favorite things because it's hard to keep your dog focused and calm as you're paying at the end. I highly recommend these guys over any other vet in town! Read Less

Five years ago she found me in a little grooming shop in Tacoma, WA, where she had been dropped off after being rescued from eight years of traumatization while being puppy milled. Our eyes met, and it was instant.  It was like, "Finally! I've been waiting forever!"  Carmen came home with me that day.  We understood each other's anxieties and traumatic life experiences.  We felt safe together.  We went jogging.  We both loved to people watch, walk on the beach and go into the forest trails.   She was my soul mate, meant to be in my life, right at that time.  A few months ago she sharply took a turn for the worse, being diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome.  Last Friday we came to Reno to visit family.  She loves to road trip, and I wanted to give her one last adventure as I watched her slip more and more as her body shut down.   Yesterday, it did just that.   She was urinating blood, unable to stand, randomly losing strength and tipping over, damaging her foot.   Last night I stayed up all night.  I knew from her eyes and the way she buried her face in my neck and softly cried that it was time.   My daughter in law sprung into support action and brought me here.   To say I felt surrounded by love and compassion doesn't feel enough to speak on my experience here.   They wasted no time making her comfortable, making me comfortable and softly explaining the process.  We snuggled her under her favorite doggie blanket and got to have a few minutes to kiss her soft head as she peacefully slept in a comforting morphine snore. Dr. Crumley, you showed so much understanding, and because of you and your staff, I felt that I experienced the soft quiet breeze which swept my best friend into her forever painless sleep.  Thank you for making this easier.  I really appreciate all of you for your kindness. I initially took my Border Collie Akita Mix dog in to get his eye checked out. We were having a hard time getting a muzzle on him as he does not like to be inspected. The vet talked about an injection to put him to sleep and then another injection to wake him back up. We were skeptical, because he was an old dog and felt it might not be safe. Then the vet suggested Acepromazine, a sedative or tranquilizer. My dad and I were under the impression that this was a safe alternative. A month later my dog died. My best friend of ten years died and I cannot express in words the immense pain I feel.I feel the vet did not take proper precaution and I did not do proper research. Not only was my dog sensitive to this drug due to being an old and large breed, but also border collies sometimes have a mdr1 gene mutation that causes even more sensitivity and possible complications. The vet did not mention this or advise testing for this gene mutation.I feel drugs are not to be used lightly. It seems doctors, for pets and humans, all too easily lean on drugs. I would of rather my dog experience stress of us using a lasso method then having him experience such intense stress on his organs and dying. Please, please, please pet owners out there, research any drug given. I am usually skeptical of drugs and placed an unusual trust on someone who "studies" and practices medicine as I was scared. And now my heart, my world, has crashed down before me as I attempt to cope with the loss of the most precious being in my life.No need to respond to my review with a sorry because that will not bring my baby back. This veterinarian clinic is absolutely amazing. I brought in my boyfriend's pit bull, who is 11 and showing concerning signs... increased trouble breathing, isolating, loss of appetite and depression. Dr. Crumley was our vet and Lauren was the technician. Dr. Crumley's bedside manner was beyond amazing. I had a horrible feeling in my stomach, and he kept me calm and took great care of my sweet pup! After doing basic radiology, he needed to do an Echo, and he was very upfront and honest with me about what the results could show. Her heart was extremely enlarged and was surrounded by blood. Once we did the Echo, my worst fears were confirmed, as we found a mass and she was diagnosed with a cardial effusion (bleeding of the heart and a mass). We decided to do end of life care, and euthanize her. They provided warm towels, they explained every step in great detail, and sat with me the whole time and cried with me. The Dr. was at her left side, patting and rubbing her. Lauren was holding her head, and comforting me. And, I got to hold my sweet girl and sing to her until the very end. After it was all over, they stayed with me for nearly an hour while I got myself together, and Lauren held Sasha as I left... They took great care of her from the minute we walked in, through the end of her life, and until she came back cremated to us just a few short days later. :) I was able to come back with my boyfriend later that day to finalize payment (which was extremely fair), and they talked him through everything as well. They helped us make a beautiful plaque, and she lives in our hearts forever... We received a beautiful card, poem and paw prints in the mail, which we plan on using for my boyfriend's tattoo. I will NEVER EVER go anywhere else, this vet has my family's heart. As we have a 14 year old cat, and a 7 year old dog... we will be using them for any and all care. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Above and beyond doesn't even do them justice. I will never be able to thank you enough for being so kind and sweet, during one of the worst times of my life. Read Less

I would never recommend to anyone, ever.About two to three years ago we brought our German Shepherd to them because she had lost a lot of weight & was throwing up multiple times a day. When we got there, they were great. They need to keep our dog over night so we left & waited until the next morning. Expecting to wake up to a happy phone call on the fourth of July, (they called me by the way, I was 16 at the time) I was instead woken up by them telling my dog didn't make it. So we took the necessary steps that followed. After, we received an enormous bill for our dog who didn't even make it. Now, mind you, we had just moved here from New York & my mother was unemployed so paying the bill off right away was going to be impossible. They said they would keep our dog until the bill was paid. Just recently, after getting 110% back on our feet, we paid the bill. So, once again, expecting to hear that we can come get our dog to surprise to my sister (she loved our dog endlessly & was crushed when she heard that she didn't make it) before she was sent off on a deployment with the Air Force, we are told that they have misplaced her... They lost our dog... I would never in my life expect a vet hospital to lose someone's dog considering that they are supposed to be pet lovers themselves. Do not bring your pets here. Read Less

When people ask me about this hospital and what I think about them I reply with.... they saved my dog's life! To me that's all the review they need. Not too long ago my dog Hannah got into something. I didn't know it at the time until several days later because she was acting fine. It wasn't until she lost her appetite, stopped drinking, and started vomiting did I then realize something was going on. I came in at 8:25 pm right before they closed. Most places when you walk in that late will turn you away, but they stayed and made me feel comforted while I worried what was going on with my dog. I was there well past when they closed while they rad some test on Hannah. I saw Dr. Luchetti both him and his assistant took the time to go over what was going on and what Hannah could have gotten into. Long story short we believe she got into a pack of gum, and had some early signs of liver failure. She ended up being staying in the hospital for 3 days on IV fluids. Every day, and twice a day I got a call from the Doctor telling me how Hannah was doing and going over the next steps. I don't care who you are that is impressive. I also like that fact that before they did anything they gave me an estimate as to how much the treatment was going to cost. I am not a rich person by any means, and pretty much live pay check to pay check. When I spoke to Dr. Luchetti he told me about a credit card that would be interest free for 6 months. Luckily I qualified, and was able to get Hannah the treatment she needed. Which is good because they were a bit on the pricey side, but it's understandable because they practice a high standard of care. With out this place, these people, and the medicine they practice I am sure Hannah wouldn't be with me. So sorry all of those who have had a bad experience, but as far as I am concerned Baring Blvd is the BEST! Read Less

Read Less

I had been a client for 7 years and when I got an email reminder that my dog needed his updated shot I tried to make an appointment. I used the website and requested an appointment 4 different times over 2 months and got no response via email or a phone call. It would have been nice to at least have them acknowledge that I had made a request even if the time I chose was not available. I finally called and they said they could not find his records. Long story short I went to another Veterinary clinic. If you need an appointment don't use their website because they will not get back to you. I still firmly believe that they are nice but it was too difficult to get an appointment so I gave up.

So yea they are expensive but I don't mind paying extra if I'm getting a quality service. Read Less

Read Less

I have been taking my animals to Baring for a little over four years now, and I have seen most of the vets there! I love this vet hospital for many reasons! One being their fantastic hours. I can't think of any other vet hospital that is open late AND on the weekends, AND see walk in appointments. Baring has all those, and let me tell you, walk in appointments are a life saver. Another reason is the atmosphere. You can tell that the vets and staff truly care about your pets and their well-being, and they treat your animals as if they were their own.The vets here are all spectacular and some do specialty procedures like orthopedic and laparoscopic surgeries, ultrasounds and laser therapy. In my book, the best bet in town!!! My family has been taking our animals here for 30 years! There is a reason they have been around so long! They are the best! The staff is always friendly and efficient, the providers are gentle and warm.  The office is clean and neat.  They have a dog side and a cat side.  On each side, is a coffee station, a tv, and a little kids area. It should be noted that this is the place all other vets in town refer to when something more complicated needs to happen.... That says a ton!!!!

Read Less
