Moved here in June 2017. My girl Reese needed dental work but she has a heart murmur so, I had to find someone who could work with her condition. After reading reviews on every vet in reno/Sparks I decided to bring Reese here. Best decision I've made for her. We seen Amanda Coats and she is the best Vet we have ever had. My favorite thing is her and her assistant come in room and sit right on the floor with me and Reese and do the exam. Reese gets really stressed going to the vet, so this makes it less stressful on her when they can do her check up without putting her up on a cold metal table or taking her in another area, Which they have had to do for x-rays but I feel so comfortable with them that I know she will be OK. Also because Reese is a fetcher, she has had a few strains and they have gotten us in immediately with little to no wait time. Took our baby girl, Daisy, (our 9 year old Husky mix) in today to see Dr. Brock to have a lump checked out. Daisy doesn't love going here, but she is very well cared for by the loving staff.  Addy took her back and made her feel much more comfortable.  Thanks Addy for putting Daisy at ease!  Dr. Brock examined our girl and thankfully it wasn't anything serious.  We have taken our furry kids to Desert Hills Animal Hospital for about 17 years now.  The vets, nurses, techs & staff are wonderful here.  We trust that our fur babies receive the best medical care.  From our old boy Simba cutting his tongue & getting that stitched up to Scooby's knee surgeries, our animals always received the best care.  Thank you Addy and Dr. Brock for taking such excellent care of our Daisy today.  We will see you in a couple months at Ramsay's check up. I took my 3 year old lab/chow mix in today to get his vaccinations and was honestly kind of nervous about it because he is extremely excitable, especially in a new environment with new people and other dogs everywhere. However everyone there was so nice and didn't pass any sort of judgement like I expected when he started to get all hyped up, instead they offered me advice on places to go to help me out with calming him down. It was not a bad experience at all like I expected, despite him being pretty wiggly they were able to get the job done. I wouldn't usually bother writing a review but from the positive experience I had I felt the least I could do was give them credit for being very professional and kind, especially the veterinarian Amanda. Never before have I been to a vet that does not let you accompany your animal into the examination room.  I took him there about a year and a half ago to get travel papers and  and ended up paying $245.  He had an ear infection, but that is still a lot for the shots, some unneeded because they were up to date.  I won't return. They are awesome! Pricy, but awesome! They saved my Moria's life. (I have an 18 yr. Old male cat.) He developed crystals in his urinary tract & became unable to go. The lady veterinarian & staff treated us exceptionally , worked with my budget & saved him. That was 2 yrs. Ago. Moria is still with me. :) I am so thankful to them. I've heard great things about Desert Hills. I'd been agonizing over my cat's excessive weight, worried he might be or become ill. I'm on a small fixed income, so it took a great deal of effort to raise the money to have my boy seen. The vet performed what I felt to be a perfunctory examination of my cat that still has me nervous. She didn't show much empathy and was disinclined to learn about my history with my animal. She told me to put my cat on a starvation diet and then pretty much accused me of animal abuse because my cat is overweight. I love this animal more than anything and this is the reason I brought him in to be seen in the first place! Even though the Vet said she didn't believe my pet was ill, the experience was a very negative one. The visit left me feeling guilty, uncertain, defensive and dissatisfied. I plan to take my kitty to a new Vet just as soon as I can find one. Read Less

We have been seeing Dr. Amanda Brock for over 5 years, with our 2 dogs. She has always given us all of the information that we needed to know before making any decisions and is extremely proactive in the overall/lifelong health if our animals. Being an animal lover since birth, and now in my fifties, I have had many pets. I have lived in Reno off and on for 25 years. Been to the competition of supposedly "best vet", which they were not. I am so impressed with everyone in this office. Very knowledgeable, informative, warm and inviting. Reasonable prices. You can't find better in the Reno/Sparks area. Read Less

Desert Hills provided care for my Lab over a number of years.  He had health issues from Keratitis Sicca, Lipoma near the eye and a few other dilemmas that came with age. They were always accessible to get into quickly, pleasant, professional and their fees are much less than other Vet in Sparks that I had previously used. At 9 1/2, my boy went downhill very fast over this summer with a form of canine cancer.  The office staff was very professional and courteous in letting me know it was time to let him go.   There is nothing they could do to extend his life in any manner that would be of any kind of quality.   Keeping him going would have been for me, not for him.   To me, the office being very honest about this was very heartbreaking to hear, but at the same time, I was thankful.  The course of treatment needed for him would not make his life any better or extend it.  Also, this unnecessary treatment would cost thousands of dollars.  I am very happy they did not try to give me false hope for financial gain...as some offices might do. I chose to be with him and send him off with love.  The office was extremely understanding and consoling.  They made this as painless for him. The actual process was done fairly quickly.  They do explain every step of what they are doing and make sure prior to the medication being given that you are absolutely sure and ready.  The doctor stayed with us and monitored him to let me know when he was gone.  This is a very painful process and I appreciate their professionalism. Services for after care were offered to us, we chose the private cremation, so that we could bring him back home. I really do appreciate how they handled the care of my precious old man.  He got to be sent on his way with those that cared for him in a painless and comforting manner.  I am thankful.  Heartbroken, but very thankful. Just got back from taking my pup, Gus to Desert Hills Animal Hospital. I forgot the name of the woman who first scheduled me...I think it was Annie (sorry if I got that wrong). She was very friendly and sympathetic to my problem. She said if I could be there within the next fifteen minutes they'd be able to see him immediately. Once I arrived they took me right back into the room where I was greeted by their vet tech, Alli, who was so patient and sweet to Gus. He even let her hold him (which he is never good about strangers touching/holding him). She held him the whole time Dr. Vittori examined him. She explained to me everything she was doing and spent a couple of minutes just petting him and talking to him before she even began examining him. She wanted to make him comfortable, which we both appreciated! She told me the charge of the exam, along with the eye test they were planning to perform and the cost of the medication. Exam alone was $51 which is a little more expensive than our old vet but I don't regret the move! I 100% recommend Desert Hills, especially Dr. Vittori and Alli! They were awesome! Read Less

When I tell my dogs "we're going to see Dr. Brock!", they jump and run around like I just offered them a steak. They love going to the vet more than going to the dog park. Front staff=excellent. I travel out of the country on occasion, and when I call to ask if they will see my dog and invoice me after I get back if the need arises, they not only agree--but they have my dog sitters name on file and confirm her number. Who does that???Dr. Brock has more common sense than any vet I've ever met. By that I mean, there are many procedures that don't often provide substantial benefit, but could be justified. Dr. Brock has never offered a treatment that yielded a less than positive result. Prices are fair. Staff is great.I highly recommend. Read Less

We are so thankfull for all of the Vetinarians who have work there previously and currently. They have a Saturday clinic which has been a fantastic option when two of my animals need urgent care on a weekend. I called Desert Hills animal hospital this morning in hopes that they could see my little schnauzer. I cannot begin to explain the gratitude and comfort I felt walking into this place. My girl has never been here and they treated her like she'd been there for ever. The doctor puts heart into his patience which I loved. If you're looking for a vet for your fur babies; call this vet. Fast and friendly service. The vet allowed us to bring kitty home rather than be sedated for further evaluation. $116 included antibiotic shot (rather than oral), anti-inflammatory, and more (for swollen paw). They are nice people who care about the animals. Read Less

I went to Desert Hills for the first time on a friend's recommendation after I woke up one morning to find my Australian Shepherd Jazz had what looked like a golf-ball sized blood blister under her tongue. While it turns out that Jazz has a serious illness that doesn't have a treatment with much effectiveness, Dr. Brock, Dr. Lambert, and the entire staff have gone far above and beyond to make both my dog and me comfortable with the process. While travelling, our Llaso Apso had a terrible case of diahrea. Called Desert Hills and got right in. Everyone there was so compassionate and caring. Left her for a few hours for blood tests and fluids (dehydration). Returned and got instructions from Dr. Mike who said to call or bring her back tomorrow. Got copy of blood test and sample of Rimadyl for arthritus. I WISH DR. MIKE AND STAFF WERE LOCATED IN COLORADO WHERE WE LIVE. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. Read Less
