I love this place! Staff is all very welcoming and very helpful. I brought my two rats in and they were wonderful with them. They even called and checked up on my rats to make sure they were doing okay. My second appointment I called the day of to add my second rat to the appointment if it was possible. After going to a corporate veterinarian to try to limit our cost and not getting our dog's needs met, we decided to return to Handel with Care. Although it is expensive, we were very pleased with the level of care and compassion and the very thorough job they did of making sure we were aware of all of the veterinarian's recommendations for tests and procedures. They took the time to ensure that we understood and agreed to each and every item on an itemized list of all the possible costs. They were great and our dog is doing so much better now. My review is specific to the grooming services received and not the Doctor or desk Staff who are extremely professional and friendly.Grooming prices are much higher than average, which didn't bother me as I understand the skill required for a good cut for my shih tzu.  Reason for one star:Total grooming appointments with Carol was 4.  At each appointment, desired cut and desired services were communicated to Carol. Either the cut was wrong or a paid service was not performed. I wanted to give Carol "the benefit of doubt" as I thought, maybe I wasn't clear enough or she didn't understand.The last appointment will be our last with her. . . . . . .I specifically requested No teeth brushing due to a recent jaw injury. This request was ignored and we were charged for this service. Not to mention, putting my dog through the trauma while her jaw was healing.  The cut given around the face/ears are uneven and jagged. Looks like a toddler cut her hair with dull scissors.(so bad, I took pictures)When I communicated my dissatisfaction directly to Carol, she stated; I must have misunderstood you. END of conversation! Her lack of customer satisfaction and cutting skill is completely unacceptable.  If you have a beloved pet with medium to long hair, do not take them to Carol for grooming. Read Less

My pets have received their veterinary care at Handel with Care, where I have spent an average of $1,000 each year, for the past three years. While the medical staff is knowledgeable, the customer service provided by the administrative, front-office support is tiresome at best. With a 45 minute duration, the checkout procedure is as long as the office visit itself. The operational process on the administrative side is disjointed and disorganized. The information communicated to the customers often does not match the establishment's record keeping, ultimately resulting in subpar care for pets and unnecessary expenses for clients. For this reason, my pets will no longer receive care at this establishment. Read Less

Handel with Care has some of the most amazing staff I've ever encountered. My dog aggressive dog came back after a nights stay with them and her negative behaviors around dogs were significantly less predominant. They have been helping us through a very hard time with our 2.5 year old dog who needs major surgery. They partner with the best surgeon in the state, so not only are their staff amazing, I know that her surgery is in the best hands as well. We live in Franklin, but if we lived closer they would be our primary vet for our cat and dog.Read Less

I agree with the reviewer who mentioned price gouging. They charge significantly more than any other places e I've been and the ALWAYS try to "sell you up" by getting you to purchase other products and services. They basically tell you your pet absolutely needs this and that extra thing, and by the time you get out of there you've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars, having simply gone in for one vaccination. -- it's like going to an auto mechanic for a flat tire, and having them tell you 5 other things that are wrong with your car, and you end up spending $1000 bucks. Also, the wait time is very long, even when there is nobody else in the waiting room..And sitting in the waiting room with a dog that's panicky (because he hates being there, understandably) is torture. Some of the staff are very very nice, so I just want to be clear that's not the problem. It's mostly the prices, and the awful constant pressure to spend more money. I am thinking of switching to a different vet, honestly.  They need to just do the service you came there for, and stop trying to push other things. Read Less

We became a cat owner purely by chance--an adorable female feline began showing up at our doorstep. Of course, we fed her and you can guess the rest of the story. We brought her to "Handel with Care" for a physical assessment and immunizations. Dr. Handel was terrific--he immediately put our terrified cat (and nervous owner) at ease--and took time to answer all of questions. The veterinary office has done such amazing work with my kitties. Especially, my cat Jasper, that got got diagnosed with diabetes. They have given me so much information, make sure his numbers are where they need to be, and they just give him so much love when we come in. They treat me like a friend and family. They're kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Always explain what they're doing and why, and answer questions. I don't like that they take the animals out back away from the owner for many procedures that could be done in the exam room. They also have a tendency to "upsell" additional services. Friendly staff. Always excited to see my pup. It definitely makes a difference when people actually care about their job. Haven't met a single person there that showed me otherwise. The doc is great, friendly and always enthusiastic. As stated prices are high but they offer monthly plans similar to insurance. You definitely get what you pay for however. Quick check in, clean facility, and caring staff! Dr. Handel was so patient and really listened. He answered all of our questions in detail and offered a lot of tips! Plus it was nice not to feel pressured to buy tests we didn't actually need :) And we loved the follow up call a few days later! Our sick pooch looks and feels better already! Read Less

Dr Handel is so great with animals, you can tell he truly loves them. The staff is great and very knowledgeable. We have been bringing our Huskey here for years and love it. I was more than impressed and thankful with all the staff at Handel With Care Veterinary Clinic. When I called to get info and recommendations about a new puppy I had gotten 10 days ago (told he had a health check with the vet and come to find out, he never did) and just today he started with worms, I was beside myself. They were quick in getting my puppy in and Dr. Handel was awesome with my puppy and my kids (age 8 & 10) who had so many questions about their new puppy and if he was going to die and how he got worms. Dr. Handel got a book to show my kids what was going on. Thank you Dr. Handel and all staff for such a great experience!! Handel with Care has been excellent with my husband's antique cat up until he passed and our two special handling large breed rescue dogs. We moved south into MA a few years ago and still drive up to Derry for their appointments because they understand the needs of our dogs and do their best to help us out with that. Read Less

My pets have been patients here since the early 90's when Dr. Handel first started in the basement of the current building. Dr. Handel has seen my dog, cats and even a bird. The staff are great and Dr. Handel has always been very personable with me. All of my pets received great care, even my siamese Loki who used to bite Dr. Handel in his later years when he became an old, cranky cat! Haha. I would recommend Dr. Handel to any pet owner. The Doctor is exceptional.  You can tell he loves animals.  We brought our boxer-lab mix and it took a while to be seen, due to an emergencies.  They took money off our bill for waiting. He was really good with our dog, even though out dog was scared.  He took the all the time we needed and I felt like our questions were completely answered.  The vet techs were great too.  I felt like we were trying to be sold a lot of "items" from one tech but other than that it was great! My family has been bringing pets to Dr. Handel for 20 years. He is a wonderful veterinarian who cares for each patient he sees as if they were his own. His technicians are very professional and accommodating. Once I had to wait longer than expected in an exam room and a tech came and offered me a magazine to read and water for my dog. Everyone who works here is an animal lover and they take the time to make sure your pet is comfortable. There are a few veterinarians who work here and each one is extraordinary. I brought my pet rat in to have a tumor removed and the procedure added years to his life. Dr. Handel and Dr. Sierra are honest they make sure that you understand everything that your pet is going through. They explain medical conditions and procedures in words that I understand and they do it without talking down to me. They consult with me before every step so the bill is never a surprise. They don't try to push you into spending more money than you need to. They have an amazing groomer who was patient with my senior dog, and gave me exactly what I wanted.
