I came here with my 14 year old dog because of her bad arthritis. She was barely walking and in a lot of pain, not really moving from her bed. I requested for her to be put down and they didn't want to-they wanted to run tests and put her on meds. My first bill was just under $200 I believe.I came back today because a little over a month later she can barely stand and won't move from her bed at all. I requested she be put to sleep and they again tried to get me to do blood work and try a different med (totaling on the low end of $200) I said I can't afford that and won't be able to afford on going blood work so they said they will put her down. She shows me the cost including the visit it will be $301. This is with me taking her home. I think this is absurd as my dog weighs about 15lbs, and my sister just had to put her 200lb Great Dane down for $150!I have another dog that I know I won't be bringing back because of cost alone. I feel robbed at a time that is upsetting and they are just taking advantage of people. Read Less

Brought my cat in to have an abcess checked. The tech told me all about how the abcess had burst. Which is fascinating since she didn't even look at it. We spent most of an hour waiting for the vet, only to have the tech come with an estimate for a procedure the vet couldn't possibly know anything about, since no staff deigned to actually look at my animal. They then took him to a back room to shave the area and clean it. For this and 30 bucks worth of antibiotics, they charged 200 bucks. If I had known in advance, I would have shaved and cleaned the area myself (again, since I had already done so once) and walked into the clinic for the drugs. Could have saved 90 minutes of my time, 170 dollars of my money, and a very upset cat. If I could give 0 stars I would. Read Less

Our cats needed to be boarded for our upcoming vacation. It was then that I realized they needed their immunizations, which were 2 months behind. The Vet we normally see, was booked, so we opted to try South Willow Animal Hospital.  There was not a wait to get in, and on a Saturday no less, so I should have been suspect, but I just felt fortunate that our vacation plans would not be ruined because I forgot to have the cats immunized on time. The front desk staff was friendly enough upon arrival but something felt off. Can't explain it, just an instinct. We were brought into an exam room by a vet tech, and when she left the room, I said to my daughter at that time, "I am not comfortable, don't know why" The Vet came in and examined both cats, gave them their shots and then left for a minute. The vet tech came back in with paperwork and proceeded to state that one of the cats, "T", had a very bad abscess, and then ran through the costs. Of course I did not want my cat to be sick due to an abscess so I quickly agreed to get him scheduled for removal of the tooth. The vet tech said she was going to look at the surgery availability & left. When she came back, she said she forgot to add charges for a pre surgery exam, some other bloodwork, etc., etc... I said, "wait a minute, he was just examined right? So why am I paying for another exam?" She seemed uncomfortable and said she would be back. When she got back she tried explaining away all the additional charges. I said, I will have to call you to set up the appointment when I know my work schedule, and I left it at that, knowing I was not going to let them touch my cat. (just that feeling I had)"T" was eating well, grooming himself, and did not seem in ill health, So I never pursued the "abscess".We had a death in the family and at the time of the funeral, I got an email telling me I had a vet appointment on the upcoming Monday. I called and stated that I never made another appointment. They insisted that I did and that I could be charged for a missed appointment. I told the girl I was in the middle of a funeral, that this was a bad time and I would not be able to make the appointment. She hounded me to reschedule, but I did not and I hung up on her as she was persistent in trying to get me to commit to an appointment date and time. In the weeks following, I received 2 more emails notifying me of appointments. Now angry, I called and told the front desk person to remove me from their email. I restated that I did not make any appointments when I left their office, and I did not plan to make any with them going forward. I also stated that it was not time for their shots OR exam, so I did not know why the Vet would need to see them. This brings me to what happened shortly thereafter. I awoke to one of my cats having a very swollen face. I took him the Emergency Vet Service and found out that my cat had a very bad abscess & needed 3 teeth pulled. Plus he has periodontal disease. Now this is the other cat, "S", who was seen by the Vet at South Willow and who did not have anything wrong with him per SW Animal Hospital. Now I know an abscess can develop quickly but it does leave me wondering if the wrong cat was diagnosed with the abscess. When "S" stopped eating cat crunchies, and then was very finicky about canned food, only eating a very mushy pate, I thought it was just his picky nature. Now  adding everything up, I think it was his teeth all this time. Thanks to the staff at Veterinary Emergency Center of Manchester, "S" is wolfing down food like he hasn't eaten in months. My other cat, "T", was examined by our regular Vet and found to be decay free. In other words, NO ABSCESS.  Don't like to think about what SW Animal hospital would have done to "T" if I had proceeded with surgery. Glad to have listened to my strong gut feeling.I cannot in good conscience, recommend South Willow Animal Hospital to any pet lover.Maybe they just hate cats....... Read Less

Not a fan. I actually used to volunteer here as a teen when Dr. Wilson and Dr. Feltz co-owned and ran the practice together. Now Dr. Feltz has his own practice and Dr. Wilson sold South Willow Animal Hospital. Stupidly, I decided to keep coming here with my cats and it cost my kitty her life. My cat always had IBD, which caused a lot of issues and I spent a lot on her over the years. When she stopped eating and seemed listless I took her here to be examined, turns out she had an Upper Respiratory Infection which made sense as she had been sneezing. I was told she needed antibiotics and shortly after the tech came in and gave her an "antibiotic shot" without asking me first or consulting with me. I assumed they were giving her a shot of the meds to start her off and would send me home with medication to give her at home. No. They chose to give her Convenia, which is a antibiotic shot that lasts weeks and is supposed to be "more convenient". The issue is, my kitty was FINE with taking medications as she had been on them all her life so there was no reason to give her this shot. On the way home she started screaming in her carrier, and vomited. Shortly after we arrived home she started seizing, turns out she had an allergic reaction to Convenia. There is no way to remove Convenia from a cats body once it is administered, and despite our best efforts she passed away after a few awful days. My cat died because the vet decided to use a unnecessary medication without asking me first, as I would have told them if they asked that I preferred an oral antibiotic that could be stopped at any time. She had a cold, and now she is dead. I was not made aware of the risks of Convenia, which is negligent considering the very real risk of what happened to my poor baby girl happening to other pets. It is a dangerous med, and vet administering it with such a cavalier attitude and no consultation with the owner is incredibly irresponsible. I cannot recommend any vet that would do that. Read Less
