Our cats needed to be boarded for our upcoming vacation. It was then that I realized they needed their immunizations, which were 2 months behind. The Vet we normally see, was booked, so we opted to try South Willow Animal Hospital. There was not a wait to get in, and on a Saturday no less, so I should have been suspect, but I just felt fortunate that our vacation plans would not be ruined because I forgot to have the cats immunized on time. The front desk staff was friendly enough upon arrival but something felt off. Can't explain it, just an instinct. We were brought into an exam room by a vet tech, and when she left the room, I said to my daughter at that time, "I am not comfortable, don't know why" The Vet came in and examined both cats, gave them their shots and then left for a minute. The vet tech came back in with paperwork and proceeded to state that one of the cats, "T", had a very bad abscess, and then ran through the costs. Of course I did not want my cat to be sick due to an abscess so I quickly agreed to get him scheduled for removal of the tooth. The vet tech said she was going to look at the surgery availability & left. When she came back, she said she forgot to add charges for a pre surgery exam, some other bloodwork, etc., etc... I said, "wait a minute, he was just examined right? So why am I paying for another exam?" She seemed uncomfortable and said she would be back. When she got back she tried explaining away all the additional charges. I said, I will have to call you to set up the appointment when I know my work schedule, and I left it at that, knowing I was not going to let them touch my cat. (just that feeling I had)"T" was eating well, grooming himself, and did not seem in ill health, So I never pursued the "abscess".We had a death in the family and at the time of the funeral, I got an email telling me I had a vet appointment on the upcoming Monday. I called and stated that I never made another appointment. They insisted that I did and that I could be charged for a missed appointment. I told the girl I was in the middle of a funeral, that this was a bad time and I would not be able to make the appointment. She hounded me to reschedule, but I did not and I hung up on her as she was persistent in trying to get me to commit to an appointment date and time. In the weeks following, I received 2 more emails notifying me of appointments. Now angry, I called and told the front desk person to remove me from their email. I restated that I did not make any appointments when I left their office, and I did not plan to make any with them going forward. I also stated that it was not time for their shots OR exam, so I did not know why the Vet would need to see them. This brings me to what happened shortly thereafter. I awoke to one of my cats having a very swollen face. I took him the Emergency Vet Service and found out that my cat had a very bad abscess & needed 3 teeth pulled. Plus he has periodontal disease. Now this is the other cat, "S", who was seen by the Vet at South Willow and who did not have anything wrong with him per SW Animal Hospital. Now I know an abscess can develop quickly but it does leave me wondering if the wrong cat was diagnosed with the abscess. When "S" stopped eating cat crunchies, and then was very finicky about canned food, only eating a very mushy pate, I thought it was just his picky nature. Now adding everything up, I think it was his teeth all this time. Thanks to the staff at Veterinary Emergency Center of Manchester, "S" is wolfing down food like he hasn't eaten in months. My other cat, "T", was examined by our regular Vet and found to be decay free. In other words, NO ABSCESS. Don't like to think about what SW Animal hospital would have done to "T" if I had proceeded with surgery. Glad to have listened to my strong gut feeling.I cannot in good conscience, recommend South Willow Animal Hospital to any pet lover.Maybe they just hate cats....... Read Less
