I can't believe the reviews I am reading. Is this the same vet that has cared for my TEN pets, literally saving the leg of one, and the lives of three others? I was an inexperienced bird owner when my Quaker parrot had a serious leg injury. I arrived to GSAH at 8am unannounced in a panic, and Carol was able to immediately operate for several hours on the tiny bird, and reattach the leg. Nine years later, the bird is fine. When I had a macaw baby that was so sick it collapsed on my floor, Carol was the one who stayed on the phone with me and told me what to do to make him stable enough to move and bring to her. She then treated him personally with round the clock, top notch care and saved his life. And taught me how to handle a macaw! Next, my outdoor cat disappeared. While I sat next to her crying and berating myself for even letting him go out, she provided such kind, calm reassurance - I will never forget it. Turns out he was locked in a neighbor's barn for two months -- and found early on Sunday morning. Again, my half-weight and seizuring cat were at Carol's door, and she performed emergency services with complete attention and kindness. He survived because of her treatment decisions - I am convinced other vets would have put him down. He just turned 9. Finally, I had a pug that had literally a million problems - all undiagnosed and misdiagnosed by other vets until I met her. She kept my little guy going as long as he could with a difficult combination of diabetes, Addisons, lyme, and vestibular disease. When the time finally came to put him down a couple weeks ago, NO ONE could have been more kind and supportive. Carol and her staff treat their client's pets like their own, and losing this cantankerous pug was very difficult for everyone in the room, and it showed. I want all my pets to be treated by her first, and will always follow her intuitive advice about animals. When the time comes for each of them I hope she is there. Yes, she can be strong worded in the heat of the moment, but it is not from meanness of any sort. Her staff knows this. She loves animals, has a sixth sense about what they need, and she loves their people. I know this. She doesn't judge based on financial ability to pay, and worked with me to find ways of treating my pets that I could manage. Carol and her staff ARE FAMILY and there is NOWHERE ELSE I ever want to take my cats, parrots, and pups. As horrendous as it is to say goodbye to a dog, having Carol and her staff there made it bearable. She is so generous with her time, taking the time to handle things personally when most clinics rely on messages and techs doing serious things. She is also a selfless wildlife rehabber, and has performed miracles with these creatures, too. If there were ten stars, I'd give eleven. Carol is simply the best vet I have ever known (and I used to work at a vet clinic, and have been to vets my entire life.) I am so, so grateful for everything she has done for my fur and feather clan that it hurts to read such negative things. Give her a try...and know that she is an amazing powerhouse of a veterinary provider. Read Less

We went here a few years ago for our green cheek conure who had something wrong with his feet. We did not like her at all. She seemed to have no patience for people or animals. She was yelling at us (maybe it is just the way she talks but it came off as rude and angry) for our bird's wings not being clipped, sorry that's our choice. He doesn't need them clipped. It's no reason for her to lose patience with us and the bird. She also yelled at her staff and belittled them in front of us and would roll her eyes at them. I was embarrassed for each technician we saw get treated like that. She was very rough with our bird as well. One of the assistants wasn't holding our bird the way she needed so she roughly grabbed our bird and turned him the way she needed. Not gentle at all like you want a vet to be while handling your pets, especially birds. Then, our bird needed some sort of prescriptions, he got two, both were expired and we didn't notice until we got home, so my husband called her and told her and she said it was fine that they still work. That isn't the point. We paid for expired medications...sorry, but that seems wrong to me. Read Less

My dog Molly suffered from severe allergies of which I was not aware of the time. At one point she lost all her hair from scratching. I took her to several veterinary clinics in Derry, Windham, Andover and Westford to seek treatment for her with no success. All those places treated me as if I were a cash machine and misdiagnosed my dog’s condition. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Macomber and I took Molly to her. Dr.Macomber immediately recognized that Molly suffered from allergies and changed her diet. In a few weeks Molly’s condition improved and she became a happy healthy dog. Granite State Hospital - Dr. Macomber always has tact, patience, and thoroughness when dealing with our cats.  She is very knowledgeable, prices are very reasonable, and always goes out of her way for our cats.  We first met her several years ago when our 15 year old cat needed and she took such good care of him in his final years.  Now we have two new lovely kittens and did not think twice about bringing them to her.  Thank you Dr. Macomber for taking such good care of our girls. About a month ago we had a Chimpmunk get caught in a mouse trap. I was able to get it out of the trap and it was shivering uncontrollably.. I put it in my hands and warmed him up. Went and bought a hampster cage. Our hope was that he would recover and we could set him free. Unfortunately the trap hit his head area and he could not walk in a straight line. No broken bones and he could run, eat, pee, poop and all just could not walk straight. After 3 days we decided we should seek out a vet that could maybe nurse him to health (If possible) as we really were limited. We brought him to Granite State Animal Hospital. They said they could not promise anything but would try. We requested to take him back if he does recover so we can release him at our house where he is familiar with. I got a call today saying he was ready for pickup... so amazing.. The staff here are fantastic and a cannot thank them enough for their help.. Read Less

I am so happy with my experience at Granite State Hospital! My Yorkie was spayed yesterday, my male Yorkie was neutered 2 weeks ago. Granite State Animal Hospital matched the FOA prices. Dr. Macomber and her staff stressed the requirements that must be met before any procedure would be done, and my puppies records were reviewed in detail. It was in part, due to their professionalism and strict policies, that I entrusted my "babies" to them.Even more important than my satisfaction and high regard for Dr. Macomber- when I went dropped off my female yesterday morning, my male who had been neutered 2 weeks prior, was ecstatic to see her and that speaks volumes! Dr. Macomber exudes such compassion and caring toward her patients, she is a credit to the veterinary profession. On my last note, I have opted to change veterinarians (my last having known for 16 plus years). Granite State is appoximately 45 min. from my home but my puppies are worth it. Read Less

My cat had somehow chased and cornered a beautiful Northern Flicker woodpecker near our house. The bird definitely had an injured wing and couldn't fly. After caring for it the best we could over the weekend, I made several calls to supposedly "professional" agencies and others who were supposed to be in the business of helping wild birds. Wow, what a disappointment. They seemed totally disinterested and one actually chastised me for not knowing how to care for this bird! Then I called the Granite State Animal Hospital and they were nothing but kind and helpful!! What a great experience. The bird appears to be making a complete recovery and will hopefully be returned to the wild. Thanks to all the staff there! Read Less

We paid for expired medications...sorry, but that seems wrong to me.Read Less

Read Less
