I’ve been going here for 7 years, and really liked them for a while. I have two dogs now, and the last few years, every time I go, I feel like I’m being pressured, if not downright manipulated into buying more and more services. Most recently, I was charged $209 for a rabies update vaccination. They flat out refused to vaccinate without doing unrelated blood and stool tests. Every time I walk in the door, it’s $200 minimum. Today, I took our records and found a new vet. Seriously, a rabies vaccine should be the absolute minimum of care. And I have spent thousands here over the years. Not like I walked in off the street. This facility used to be top rate, with a great staff of women who were compassionate, efficient and helpful. I remember looking forward to taking my rescue cat to see the vet. You would always see cookies on the counter at Christmas and a friendly smile. All that changed after Dr. Rothman retired. The costs have skyrocketed and the office staff always seems to be frazzled. The vets always seem to be rushing to move on to the next patient. My cat Morris died right in the examination room as Dr. Javic was trying to treat him for congestive heart failure, which proved to be terminal. I had taken him there late one night in 2011 after he laid motionless and was hyperventilating. They insisted that they could not keep him there overnight, so we had to drive him, in his sick condition to Penn Veterinary Hospital in Philly. Morris was so sick, he could barely cry out but he clearly was uncomfortable with the motion in the car. Penn kept him there for a week until he was released with instructions for routine visits back to Rothman for fluid draining, which required a needle to be inserted into his chest. I always held hope that Morris's life could be saved. He was my world. I could not process what was happening in the very sudden and swift onset of this illness and its impact, which was irreversible. I didn't understand exactly what was happening. Only one of the female Vets took the time to explain it to me - candidly - in a serious telephone discussion. When Morris finally collapsed during his final office visit, he had been in Rothman's care all day. I was about to pick him up when he passed as I spoke to the vet over the phone. Dr. Javic was very sweet and sympathetic. I was crying. But to this day, I still cannot understand how Morris developed a terminal illness and died from it within 3 weeks when he had been having his check ups on a regular basis and every time, he had been given a clean bill of health. Morris was a huge, 18-lb, long-bodied orange tabby cat whose build was similar to a Maine coon. He was a tad overweight and I finally wrote it off to that. My anger isn't at the attending vet. I just feel that that office and its staff need to do more in the way of condolence than a simple "I'm sorry." and a hastily handwritten sympathy card. I know other facilities that provide you with a permanent keepsake such as a small wooden plaque with the name of the pet and a photo embedded in it. I expected the staff to be much more supportive. This office staff needs to remember that losing a pet is like losing a child - the pain is unbearable. You don't get over it; you get through it. Death is a part of life. Your pet's doctor should "have your back" on both. Read Less

I have been goin to Rothman since my black lab named Friday since approximately 2004/2005. Two dogs later, phoebe has been under Rothman Animal Hospital's care since 2014 when I rescued her from Almost Home Animal Shelter. Why the bad review now readers may wonder. well, here's why: earlier this March, phoebe's health took a turn...tests were performed, a splenectomy was needed due to nodules (turned out benign) - but developed complications immediately following that required her to be transported to Mount Laurel Animal Hospital. From post op to waiting overnight to transport, Phoebe wasn't moving. once at Mount Laurel Animal Hospital (see my review for them), she wasn't moving. 48 hours after her admission, she still wasn't moving and had noticed something matted to her fur on her thigh. I asked Mount Laurel Animal Hospital's Dr, Groman and his staff about it "don't know" and that was it. Fast forward a week later she was released on May 1 and on May 5 she developed a serious skin infection that spread from the size of a quarter to her her whole thigh and side of her butt. I alerted Mount Laurel Animal Hospital and asked a remedy, and took phoebe to see her vet Dr Garcia at Rothman. horrified, Dr. Garcia was alarmed, upped her Addison medication to thwart a possible Addisonian relapse, rx'd additional antibiotics, after I explained what happened at Mount Laurel. Dr. GARCIA SUGGESTED that maybe it was from Rothman (since she wasn't moving at all while she laid on the floor). Shockingly, when I called Mount Laurel Animal Hospital to address the infection, I'd then get a call from Dr. Garcia at rothman. I always got a gut reaction that these calls were far from coincidental in their timing. Both hospitals were talking and getting their ducks in a row. And lied to Mount Laurel and agreed with them that it wasn't their fault or their own fault at Rothman...the raw skin that's exposed and blazing hot is nobody's fault. while I was amused at how both institutions thought I was stupid and I didn't realize what was going on...I had a feeling. What a disgrace and disgust to the vetinerary community. Just own up and take accountability. YOU know she wasn't admitted with some god knows what substance stuck to her fur to Rothman...and the first time I saw it...it was at Mount Laurel. And after Dr, Garcia suggested maybe both were to blame and cleaned and bandaged her at no charge twice (what vet hospital does anything for free?!) is even more disgusting. Read Less

I am so frustrated with this office. After giving us a 'punch' on our loyalty card 1 visit (without us asking), they took it away the next because we were $3 under the $100 requirement. I don't understand why they are always so rude. They make everything so difficult. Our pet had an emergency while he was with us out of town over Christmas, and Rothman refused to cooperate with the out of state vet. They will not email or fax, and only accepted the records in person. Then the office people treated me like I was lying, even though I had the records. Never going back! Read Less

I brought my Service dog in 12/27/16 he was given several antibiotics and prednisone. 2 weeks after meds were done no change. Dr. Dixon called twice while he was still on meds and told me to call if no change that it takes time. She was indeed very nice at the office and checking in my dog. However, I did call 2 weeks later and there was no change in my dog. I called and she was not in though would call me. I NEVER got a return call. Talked to fellow dog owners and they said a certain medication helped their dogs for itching. So, I ordered the med online and the pharmacy made 3 attempts in wanting a prescription. This was in beginning of Feb. I waited almost 2 weeks. I called office this past Wednesday upset. Why have they not responded to fax prescription. Young lady preceded to tell me..."we don't do that and they know it". How about contacting me and letting me know "this fact". My dog is losing hair and biting his feet. Same young lady told me "we have an online pharmacy. Order the med you want you don't need a script". You lied!!! THIS IS MY WORKING SERVICE DOG!!!!!!!!! After ordering said med and a few hours later I received an email stating I was denied and Dr. Dixon would look at chart and call me. NOTHING. You came highly recommended to me. What horse hockey. Give your entire staff in services...my dog is not able to work properly and protect me for he is uncomfortable. I am beyond PISSED OFF.Read Less

The staff was very nice, but old animal adopters, beware. I went in for a simple follow up on my cat (she has never had any health issues all her life and only had a minor infection in her ears), then I was told that she needed her tooth removed. I was prepared to pay half of a thousand, plus "other possible factors" that may increase the price. I instead consulted with my cat's previous vet (I moved to Nj from Pa), my vet scoffed the very first second she had a look. Turns out my cat never needed any tooth extractions. A simple cleaning that cost $100 and she already has sparking white teeth again. The thought that this place tried to make my cat lose teeth for money, makes me lose all my respect for whatever business they're trying to run. Read Less

I have always seen either Dr. Garcia or Dr. Javic for my rabbit, and then have been extremely knowledgable during visits, and on hand to answer questions by phone. Dr. Garcia has made a referral for me so I could see an ophthalmologist at North Star, and faxed a prescription to a local vet so my parents could pick it up while I was on vacation and they were taking care of my rabbit. I've also spoken with Dr. Dixon and Dr. Opielski on the phone, and again, they have been knowledgable and put my mind at ease when I question if something I've read online about my rabbit's behavior/symptoms is true. Very disappointed by customer service at Rothman. I brought my new rescue dog here for a routine check-up and to get a Rx for heart worm preventative medication. I opted not to purchase the Rx at Rothman because I knew I could pay much less online. I placed the online order for the Rx on June 23. The online company tried faxing a request to Rothman on June 23 and June 24 to obtain the Rx. Rothman didn't response. The online company called Rothman today and Rothman told them that I would need to pick up a paper prescription and snail mail it in because it is their "policy" not to fax prescriptions. Come on people, we aren't talking about a prescription for percocet or oxy. It is for a HEARTWORM preventative. Now, because I have to snail mail the Rx in and wait for it to be manually processed, I will not receive the Rx until after the 4th of July holiday. My dog isdue for the pill on 7/1. Clearly, Rothman wants to make things as difficult as possible on those who wish to purchase their ped meds elsewhere. This is ridiculous and completely the opposite of what a veterinarian should do - look after the best interest of the dog (not their own pocketbooks). If they really wanted to follow this absurd policy, why didn't they tell me about the policy at my appointment when i said i was going to purchase online? Or 5 days ago when the online company first made the request. Or 4 days ago when the online company made the second request? Had they done that then, I would have had plenty of time to mail the Rx in and give my dog her Rx on-time. Major fail. Total lost of trust in this vet. I will be bringing my dog elsewhere from now on.Read Less

In making any judgments it is always important to have all of the facts. I am a current employee of RAH and am very disturbed by Mr. Hak's inaccurate statements. We are very competitive with our pricing. Some products and services we may be more costly and some are less than other vets in the area. Unfortunately due to substantial increase in drug costs from the pharmaceutical companies , our drug prices have gone up as well. We can not compete, price wise, with the large pharmacies because we don't buy in the volume they do. We never FORCE our clients to buy from us . That is illegal and unethical. Our clients can receive an Rx that they can fill at the pharmacy of their choice. We recognize the increasing costs in the veterinarian field. Clients sometimes can't afford or choose not to treat their pets. As a result in these increased cost of our drugs and supplies from our vendors, we have implemented a loyalty program. Our clients can receive a $100 loyalty credit on their account. Some clients have used this credit for services or treatments that they might have been able to afford. We also run monthly promotions such as free vaccines, discounts on grooming, discounts on dental, etc. Our current vets have been with us for many years. Our last veterinarian left over 8 years ago for family leave. It is also our office policy that staff members remain strictly professional with our clients. When selecting any veterinary provider, one should be cost conscience , BUT quality veterinary care is the most important factor. Read Less

Read Less

When we called to cancel we received all this grief about receiving a refund and were told that if we continued to call and inquire about getting a refund that we would receive a letter of termination for services and need to take our pet elsewhere. What the heck kinda service is that? Rothman is not the only pet doctor around, they beret check into it! Thank you for my refund and we'll be more than happy to go elsewhere!

Read Less
